The shaft of a carb can leak when they get excessively warn. At that point you have two options, pull the shaft hone the bore and install a brass bushing to take up the slop, or toss the carb and get a new one.

Fuel pump pressure seems to be the biggest problem.

Actually I have found the needle & seat leaking is the thing that happens the most.

Thanks Mike, for this really helpful video, but at about the 7:45 point, the video goes back to the beginning. So, we miss everything after that point. Hope you can fix that issue. And, yes, I bought parts from you twice.

Thanks for this video. I will run down each of these possible causes for my flooding issues. I suspect I have multiple issues. I am starting with the electric fuel pump, so I am going to add a gauge to check the pressure. However, what do you recommend to do if I suspect my power valve is also sticking? I rebuilt the carb and found it rusted and frozen.

As always very helpful. I have the venturi dripping at idle when warm and when stopped issue, noted in a article I assume by yourselves on a Carburetor-blog that outlined the following "If it happens at idle, or cruising along, then you have a problem. This can be caused by a vacuum leak, or something plugged in the idle circuit"... no mention of the main discharge. Just wondering the chief culprit to my issue? Thanks!

Good afternoon, because I put that new carburetor on my 305 engine and it doesn't start when I try, I have to pedal and hit it several times. I have an electric pump and I want it to start immediately, what could I do to solve it?

    • @MikesCarburetor

It could be one of several problems. Is the choke closed when it is cold? www.carburetor-parts.com/2-jet-troubleshooting

@@MikesCarburetor Thanks, rebuilt and still flooding. I think the needle might be sticking. Pressure was 3psi but dropped close to 0 so I think it's stuck open. Will disassemble again. Not totally sure on the float setting, this is on a Chevy 4.3 v6.

Hello Mike. I have a 1977 GMC pick up with a stock 305ci engine rebuilt. New. I bought a new, not rebuilt, 2bbl Rochester to replace the old one. It was advertised for a bigger motor. It has .52 jets in it and it stutters like a rapid misfire at any speed. So did the rebuilt I had before but with .38 jets. [>

With .38 my plugs were turning black with soot. Too lean?
