i'm on the fence about this one. What put me off is the brutality of the game. I like games where I can progress. Fantastic review

I am with you! It is really hard, but what's cool is you can progress in the background, just your character you send on the mission dies, but you as the leader stay alive with your ship and keep some stuff and can build up, which takes some of the sting out of a death ;)

B grade from you is fair. i frickin love this game so it's easy S tier for me. though patch beta just dropped so we'll see if they made the game better or worse xD. also one tip for something you mentioned: you can CTRL + left click to instantly move items back and forth between inventories

Haha, I tell you what--I will see how it is after the patch and after playing more and I might move it up on my grade :D Thanks for the CTRL click tip--I swear I tried every combination and could not get that to work haha

Both are great choices! Stoneshard has more content at this point, but it is slow to update.

Thanks for the review :) I'm not into early access so I'll just keep an eye on this game for now.

This game looks like it would work really well on low end systems. Have you tried?

I don't get it. What do I do after the intro. I can't even clear a floor and I don't have weapons left. The help button is no help. The ingame tipps are useless. I don't get the faction systems. They need to explain it. I might just refund

It's a tough game and in early access, so they may add a more in-depth tutorial later? I plan on doing a Beginner's Guide series on this soon to help explain these things!

Well, this video was unfortunately untimely.
I'm dropping here to warn everyone NOT to buy this game yet.
The developers are making some really dumb decisions with its balancing, and the latest large update can be summarized as "solution to one problem produces 4 new ones".
The biggest gripe everyone had with this game was the quasimorph one-shotting weapons, which made all armor redundant, and ended your campaign at random.
The devs addressed this, by reducing the damage of the one-shotting weapons, and simultaneously buffing the damage resistances of all enemies.
On top of this, the movement is now limited, and the player gets wounded CONSTANTLY.
I'm not exaggerating when I say you will bleed like a stuck pig half the game.
80-90% of all enemy shots now cause bleeds, wounds, and fractures, which force you to drag an arsenal of rags, bandages, splints, and pills.
On top of this, thanks to the resistance buffs on all enemies, you have to carry 3 different weapons with ammunition for them, so you can have at least 1 effective weapon for most enemies you face, because even low-level enemies now have all-rounded defense to 3-5 damage types (most commonly blunt, cut, and pierce, which are the starter weapon types).
Considering you get like 20-22 inventory slots with the first backpack and vest, and these weapons take up 2 slots (and their ammo 1), you will have only 1-3 available slots for spare items you want to bring back to the ship.
It is immensely frustrating, building 1-3 stacks of raw materials or picking up 1 non-stackable item to trade later, and leaving a ton of goodies behind on every run.
Every run is now death by a thousand cuts. The game forces you to constantly min-max your armor durability, and slog through hordes of low-level enemies, which chip away at you the whole run.
Mission difficulty ratings are now meaningless, because there are easy 4-5 skull missions and suicide 1-2 skull missions. You just can't tell until you enter.
Forget about doing Quasimorph missions. All you will do is get withered down by low-level enemies, and then get 2-shotted, or ganked, by a better equipped enemy / gang of quasi spawns.
To add insult to injury, the rewards from missions are pathetic, the barter system has been flooded with trade items , which are often non-stackable and/or have slot size of 2, and the items you receive from bartering are pitiful.
Good backpacks almost never drop from barters / missions, so you are constantly leaving things behind, while having 90% of your inventory consist of ammo, guns, and meds you need to just get through the level.
I rage quit on the update, after grinding RealWare missions for 8 hours (this faction has 14% to give one of the best backpacks, and 3% chance to give grenades and mines), and in 15 missions, my returns and barters from them were 80% grenades / mines, a few guns, worthless armor, and not a single backpack.
The game currently is a frustration simulator and not worth anyone's time. It's current steam rating of Mixed is well deserved.
I get the feeling the devs don't playtest anything in this game, considering how backwards the recent changes have been.
