When I was in college, the rhythm section of our marching band would occasionally throw in the drum break down from this song during our marching cadence. As soon as they did, the tubas had a routine they would do where they would twirl to the beat (while still marching, if you can imagine that) and it was just so. Freakin'. Fun.
I feel like it's a timeless groove. Even though it probably wouldn't have existed without Van Halen. I didn't realize until I was older that it was sampled off of Jaime's Cryin'. The beat is slightly different but the fill is there and the guitar sample is obvious. That bit you described with the tubas sounds awesome though.
Good breakdown dude. Keep them coming. I'm sure my hopeful nature of watching Soundgarden drum covers and hoping it happens through osmosis isn't as realistic as learning from a master like yourself.
