Girl's Got Groove indeed! Sina, Jimbo here! I absolutely love your tutorial on basic drumming. You take the voodoo out of it and make drumming seem simple. This video is a must for the beginner or the pro. Why, even your mom and dad and sis can do it. Maybe I’ll try it someday soon! Great job Sina on "Dear Life" on my new "Tigress" album on Frontiers. Rock steady. Jim Peterik of the Ides of March - formerly of Survivor and of 38 Special fame.

You did the best job out of 100s of drummers of explaining the basics of the set and of the basic beats. It was really more educational and more clearly taught than anything or anyone I've seen yet.

What fun it is learning about these basic building blocks of drumming. Completely fascinating! The individual components appear deceptively simple, but the way you combine them takes raw talent, genius, and discipline, resulting in the artistry you continually display. We may not not reach superhero drummer status, but we can now appreciate a little more what you have perfected to become one yourself. It's an added pleasure to be introduced to your obviously close and supportive family, though we've been entertained before by your sister's deadpan, dryly humorous expressions. Yes, by all means, more drum school sessions would be enthusiastically welcomed!

Aloha fellow Baby Boomer 😉-I went to drum lessons with my then 7-year-old son (now 23) hoping to help keep him motivated. The teacher let me have a go and was so jazzed when I finally got the very same beat Sina’s teaching in this video. Seeing it and remembering the lovely feeling of “getting it” I’ve decided to start drumming. Howzit going for you? I bet you’re more coordinated than you think, what with playing trombone in high school, surely you were in marching band. Mahalo for your post and the encouragement it’s given me and Happy Hawaiian Hugz!🧡 🌋 💛 🤙🏽 ❤️ 🌺 💜

Hey Bob, I'm 70 yo. I started to take the plunge to play drums ( I knew I would be unable to play Guitar), in 1966. Took about 8 lessons or so, practiced a little each day on a pad, and then teamed up with HS buddies who were learning their instruments as well. After 3 years of plzying together after school in one of the guy's basements ( all the others including me lived in apartments), in 1969 [truly a GREAT YEAR], we moved on to Colleges, Military, etc. I always played Air Drums and always paid my atte tion to the drums in all songs. Then in 2018, nearing retirement, i told my wife of 44 years ( now 47 years),that I would like to Play Drums , probably at a local music studio , just to hit the Skins again. She went and got a Cheapo Gammon set for Xmas in 2018. At first, i was a little reluctant to get going. Then I did... Put them together, and started playing to My Music in the basement of our house, after 50 years. Lots of Rust, but that got shaken in a few sessions. So now, I play everyday for an hour or so, have a drink (bourbon, or glass of red wine, or a beer). I eventually upgraded my drum set (or kit as they call it now), anf gave the old one to my 4 year old grandson. Unfortunately, i am limited by spinal arthritic conditions and general all over chronic pain and stiffness in other joints, BUT the love of drumming perseveres. My Music consists CCR, Mellencamp, Petty, Stones, Beatles, Eagles, Cars, Talking Heads, Clapton, even Li da Ronstadt and Bonnie Rait. Be well.

You have a huge heart and continually explore influences from an era of music that so many young people today have never been exposed to. I have a daughter your age (not a musician, but rather biochemist). When she was 10 she discovered my 60’s/70’s vinyl collection and simply asked “why am I just now learning of this?”. Your talent is amazing. It’s clearly driven by passion, while also attributed to a desire to continually improve, not to mention an amazing supporting cast. Not the least of which are your parents, I’m sure.
In its simplest element, music is the study and understanding of mathematics. Your explanations in this video, without overwhelming details, are excellent for the intended audience. Well done!
Keep learning. Keep improving. Keep teaching.

Hi Markie I have always loved the drums. I started with a snare drum my mom bought me. Eventually I got a used set of drums & basically sat down & tried to play with songs. My mom couldn't afford drum lessons for me so I did it my way. Over the years I decided to buy an electronic set of drums by Roland. They are much smaller than an acoustic set but they sound just as good. My biggest regret was never taking lessons. But to me I just love doing my own thing. I find it relaxing & fun. By the way I am 70. Do what ever makes YOU happy. Good luck.

Since 2014 I teach Revenue Management (managing prices for the hospitality and airlines industries), a complex speciality. I love the way you simplify the way of starting to play drums. This was a brilliant idea Sina and Dad on both showing us how to play the basics of many rock and pop songs, but it also showed that this channel is indeed very much a FAMILY AFFAIR. From Miss Milena to Dad and to Mom and then back to you, your family supports your work here. This is what a family does when something comes up. We Patrons, Members, and Subscribers to this channel also fully support you and will ALWAYS be with you 100%, no matter what course this channel takes.

A great tool for beginner drummers is something like the Yamaha DD-65 which has built in song libraries in about every genre. It also lets you have varying amounts of the drums playing along so you can play the basics and disable them completely when ready. Also great for practicing with headphones. It only took me about 1/2 song to get the timing/distance/feel when using an acoustic set.

Hey Sina! Love your teaching method! I'm a drummer myself of 35 years of drumming! Some drummers love to show there skills and Gospel chops! But I like the fact you're solid and play it simple. Sometimes it's good to keep it simple and go back to the basics! Much respect!🙌🥁🎵

So glad you did this!! You made it simple and easy to understand! Not only are you a super classy professional drummer…..you can add teaching to your vast talent. Glad you mentioned left handers!! I’m left handed but learned on right-handed kit. This day I drum right handed. Your teaching video was perfect. Instrumental teachers will love this tutorial!! You continue to impress me as a person and musician!!! …….” Look…even my sister, Dad, and Mom can do it”!! Excellent! I think your Dad can handle most instruments!!! Thanks!!

Big thanks Sina!!!

Nice! You posted this on my Mom's birthday, who once announced a year before she passed: "I guess we should have gotten you a drum set when you were young." I never knew she was aware how much I loved drums. As a girl in the '60's, there weren't many role models for rock drummers and I never mentioned it to her. At 69 I've been trying to learn a bit at a time on a few little drums gifted to me by a friend. I have a long way to go. I'm much better on tambourines, but I'll keep trying! Thanks, Sina.

Thanks Sina. This is a great idea for your community to enjoy. I think it best I i just watch you play rather than try to learn. When I watch Jeff Beck play, I think I should throw my guitars away and if I get a kit and watch you I might feel the same way 😂. Thanks again for the video and the smiles they bring us all.

Fascinating - I'm far too old to start drumming (to my family's immense relief) - but seeing how you analyse music feels oddly familiar. (I'm an engineer - I look at a circuit diagram or a piece of code and need to know how it works...)
You may find there are two audiences - people who want understand the theory, and then actual drummers (who need additional practical details - how to set up the kit to be comfortable for example, or how not to get injured or deafened).
Great to see all your family. (And to Mum - your privacy is your business and no-one else's. Please carry on supporting Sina - and appear on screen if and when it feels right to you.) Have fun as Christmas gets closer!

I got myself an electronic drumkit at the age of 53 - it has a volume control. I am well aware, that I will never play in a band and I will never be as good as Sina; but that´s beside the point: It has been my life long dream and it is SO much fun, just playing along to my favourite songs, even if I cannot get all the parts exactly right and I am off-beat occasionally. Good Sir, I don´t now, HOW old you are, but you certainly are not TOO old to try something new and to enjoy it. All the best for you xxx

This is great! So many drummers get distracted by the extra stuff, fills on the toms and crashes and so on, and may then lose the one, and you have pointed out what is most important and done it so well. I love the "coordination exercises" off kit, pulling away everything but the kick, snare, and hi hat for teaching purposes and practice, too, and focusing on the one (As Ginger Baker famously advised -- "You must always know where the one is."). Love this and all your videos. So helpful and enjoyable. Thank you!

Wondeful little intro to drumming. My love is actually the keyboard that only relatively recently have I had time and space to devote to it. However for some time, I've considered the drums along with the piano (of course) and the guitar as the essential instruments to learn. The drums primarily due to its strong link to time and rhythm in music. I've been thinking about picking up a pad and some sticks to practice however your video shows I really don't even need those things. In any case, thanks for the video.
