my mom never added corn syrup or vinegar and the nuts were just not that available in those pioneer days old fashioned days of the '50s lol Yours do look lovely I may say but I think I'll stick to my Mom's
I can’t understand how it is that you never saw them in America! My mother-in-law’s close friend (now 88 years old) made these for us every Christmas and during other times we would visit when we’d come back up to Monmouth, Maine, about 2.5-3 hours from the closest Canadian town. Not exactly next to the Canadian border, but not terribly far away, either. So, hey, give us an itty-bitty credit that we Mainers recognized a good thing when we saw it, too! 😃 😃 Thanks for posting!
I wish the world would discover the joy of butter tarts, as they have poutine. They're mind-blowing, especially when made 100% from scratch and ever-so-slightly warm after coming out of the oven and cooling for a bit. Luke warm, not hot🤤
Just like Mom makes! Going to try these tomorrow, will bring back some memories. Another Canadian thing is to make “Pets-de-nonne” out of the leftover pie crust. I remember coming home and my Mom would have a few waiting for my brother and I after school for a treat.
I am a Canuck stuck n Seattle and I miss butter tarts! Tomorrow it's not too hot to make these..BUT how much flour did you use? The video just says 'flour'..ugh! I have watched EVERY video on butter tarts and I think yours is best..
Great Chef, great teacher, great recipes and instructions. Great chefs comes from Canada, I know a few of them. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful recipes. I already printed a few of your awesome recipes and I know I'm coming back for more!
Always add raisins and my mom’s trick is to add the raisins to simmering hot water and let them simmer for 5 minutes. Drain the water and let the raisins cool. This way the raisins are plumped up and they don’t absorb any of the butter tart filling.
Simply fabulous. Perfect the first time and the only pastry dough I have ever made that was good. Thank you so much for this gift of a great butter tart.
THAT is how I like my butter tarts! So many recipes out there are for the runny kind, but I like my set. I don't want no runny butter tart. Thanks for sharing the recipe!!!
Oh yummy! I love your recipe and will have to try it. What's not to love with pastry, right. Thanks for a great video and recipe. Will miss you terribly on QVC, you are the best. Happy New Year and look forward to more youtube videos... Claudia
Ahhhh, so delish; this is the best demo & recipe for Canada's "best-kept secret"! Thank you/Merci beaucoup, Blue-jean Chef! Miss 'em down here in 'Silly Valley,' CA ...
I live in Germany and can not get corn syrup. However I can get an imitation mPle syrup with the first 2 ingredients being high fructose corn syrup and regular corn syrup. Can I use that??
Hi just saw your video by accident. Love your recipe. Will make it for my friend and us for this Christmas. Thank you. Btw, what is the purpose of adding corn syrup and can I replace it with something else?
Can I have the receipt yours. R the best in ur video you didn't say how much flour and when u make the filling. No amount of measurements. I would like to have the receipt. Thank you Sylvia
I pre-gave this a thumbs up until I saw you reach into your food processor without unplugging it first. Kind of speechless, and kind of laughing. The tarts themselves do look rather tasty, though.
Brenda food processors have a safety mechanism - you can’t operate them without the lid being screwed and clicked into place. It’s not like a stick blender that you operate without a guard.
Hi, the vinegar cuts down on the sweetness. I use lemon. This is a delicious recipe. Be sure they are golden raisins, if using. Also I lay pecans on the crust then pour syrup over, very slowly. They will float to the top on their own, everytime! Happy baking!
Now that you have left QVC are you going to continue to do tutorials on You Tube? Merry Christmas ........do you make a Canadian Meat Pie at Christmas??
Oh! I am not a 'vegan", but dairy-free butter is rather good. (NO, I don't mean "margarine," but actual butter made out of coconut cream - it's quite good- it doesn't have that "salty, oily flavour")...
Ok, don’t really want to sound like a snob, but if people are going to be taught how to cook things it should be the proper way! First of all you should not use an electric mixer, that is why they sink. You should risk by hand and his little as possible. Also start the pastry at a higher temperature like 400 to get good color on the crust then turn it down to 375.
I love your video's But could you please stop with the music ? I am having a hard time with understanding what your says with the background noise . Thank you !!
First of all .. NEVER raisins or walnuts! Pecans? MAYBE, on RARE occasions for your aunt Gertie who is just weird. Second - the pastry is TOO DAMN PALE! It needs more colour! What have those Americans done to your your COMMON CANADIAN SENSE?!? 🤣
Delicious tarts. PLEASE PLEASE get rid of the music. I don't understand why people think they need music with their videos. I'm interested in getting the recipe and viewing the process. Thanks
Ahh.. don't understand why people see the need to feel entitled when they are getting something for free. You are also free to go some other video that suit your tastes better.
@@RPW2012 Sorry for the confusion. Right underneath the video where the words describe the video, it says "Arguably Canada's best, most delicious treat - the Butter Tart! See Recipe here: www.meredithlaurence.com/reci... " If you click that link, you'll get the recipe.
Sounds good. I’m a kook though. I’d have made 1 row of 3 with raisins, 1 row of 3 with pecans, 1 row of 3 plain and 1 row of 3 with walnuts. 🤪
my mom never added corn syrup or vinegar and the nuts were just not that available in those pioneer days old fashioned days of the '50s lol Yours do look lovely I may say but I think I'll stick to my Mom's

Same in Michigan - we always had butter tarts for Christmas!

Or you can get a butter tart with coconut in it! Super delish! Thanks for the recipe!
Karen Nesbitt Coconut? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!???
@@PanAmStyle Don't knock it until you try it. They are delish. :)
blasphemous! just joking..
looking forward to making these I know they will be the best Thanks
Always add raisins and my mom’s trick is to add the raisins to simmering hot water and let them simmer for 5 minutes. Drain the water and let the raisins cool. This way the raisins are plumped up and they don’t absorb any of the butter tart filling.
If serving adults only, soak the raisins in rum for a 15 to 30 mins it also plumps them up.
Simply fabulous. Perfect the first time and the only pastry dough I have ever made that was good. Thank you so much for this gift of a great butter tart.

Sarah Poulin Runny forever!
I make my filling in between. It's gooey and oozes slowly. I add an extra egg yolk to my filling.

Yum similar to a sugar pie except for the milk, can't wait to try. Happy Holidays!!

For those of us who are hard of hearing, the addition of music to the video makes understanding your speech difficult.

Went to recipe but still no flour amount! Please
Hi just saw your video by accident. Love your recipe. Will make it for my friend and us for this Christmas. Thank you. Btw, what is the purpose of adding corn syrup and can I replace it with something else?
You didn't say how much flour you put in and the recipe link doesn't have the pastry recipe.

How much flour.?

Thank you for sharing this delicious secret , I can’t wait to try them today, but why the vinegar?
Hi, the vinegar cuts down on the sweetness. I use lemon. This is a delicious recipe. Be sure they are golden raisins, if using. Also I lay pecans on the crust then pour syrup over, very slowly. They will float to the top on their own, everytime! Happy baking!
What does the vinegar do ?Looks delicious !
Cuts the sweetness and makes it more balanced!
Just as a bit of salt enhances sweetness, some acidity helps to further round out the flavour profile.
How much flour did you use
Yummy
Looks delicious! Gonna try this. Will miss you on QVC!
how much flour and how much butter?
Hi Carmen. You'll find all the ingredient quantities here: bluejeanchef.com/recipes/butter-tarts/
Blue Jean Chef safari
The rest of the ingredients don't match up to ones verbally given in the video for the pastry. 😔
You also don’t say how much butter!!!
Love it making this today I'd rather use butter to
I would like to buy a flour spreader like yours please
Now that you have left QVC are you going to continue to do tutorials on You Tube? Merry Christmas ........do you make a Canadian Meat Pie at Christmas??
Absolutely to both - I will continue to post on RUclips AND I had a GREAT Tourtière for Christmas. 😊
🏆🏆
How much flour
How much butter and brown sugar lol
What does the vinegar do?
Agree with many that find the music so irritating & it’s so loud
The recipe sounds delicious but we can’t concentrate Tku
What music?? I don't hear anything at all! You must be one of those grumpy people that have nothing to do other than to hate on others.
Wonderful video! The music is very repetitive and annoying, though. I wish I could watch it without the music.
Hmm. Butter tarts are the ONLY thing i like raisins in food... But I like "pecan tarts' better.)
Oh! I am not a 'vegan", but dairy-free butter is rather good. (NO, I don't mean "margarine," but actual butter made out of coconut cream - it's quite good- it doesn't have that "salty, oily flavour")...
All people who like raisins are heathens lol pecan is the only true way to make them :p
It looks delicious! humm :D good job chef!
I wonder if Loulou ate the butter that fell to the ground?
Haha! I'd like to blame her, but...
@@bluejeanchef Haha! Looked closely a second time and saw that it only fell onto the table.

I have everything but corn syrup 😞
Use maple...
