Sorry you feel that way -- but we should point out two things: 1) All of the game reviews you cite are positive -- which you seem to at least agree with. So hopefully we didn't steer you wrong. A 7 on IGN is defined as "good" -- and a high 7 is closer to "great." 2) Those ratings you quote aren't all ours. Skyrim got a 9.5 when it came out in 2011. Final Fantasy XV got an 8.2. And the latest Call of Duty, Infinite Warfare got a 7.7.

The reason why this game is getting so many good reviews is because it's scary asf, instead of trying to be some Michael bay action movie game like resident evil 6 it's a true survival horror game, and the stories good too, yeah there's not a lot of variety on enemies but the main villains are amazing and the game is a true return to horror

ImJake yeah maybe but I think games this short should be cheaper than games like Dying light or Fallout 4, if a game only has an 8 hour play through cycle it should be classed as a budget title and not a full priced one. I enjoyed the game very much, just felt a bit ripped off when it ended.
In my opinion I will give it a 9/10. It is the best horror game of 2017 so far. Resident Evil 7 is one best games of the franchise. I hope Capcom will bring great Resident Evil games in the future.

7.7 is definitely too low. It got a 7.7 because the perception at the time was Capcom had lost their way, and critics were slightly dismissive of them. A lot of the reviews seems tainted by that perception. Like they're not reviewing the game based on its own quality, but with 5+ years of underwhelming Capcom titles influencing their opinions
Mr. Sensible that’s a fair point. Sometimes I like to rate games subconsciously in my own way. The problem is, this reviewer hardly mentioned anything about other Rezzy games in being “action based” and the series’ fall off. Nor did the reviewer mentioned any complaints with the game. This was just super lazy in all honesty.
And these clowns gave Pokemon Sword and Shield a 10, give every shitty lazy remastered Wii U port a 10, Cuphead an 8, RE7 a 7.7. Holy hell the list goes on. IGN is a dumpster fire
Normally I don't play first person games but this game blew me away. The makers really went back to their roots. 10/10 Perfect storyline, conserve ammo and run away, keep what you need so you don't run out of space, all things that makes a Resident Evil game an awesome Resident Evil game is in this one.

Yeah there's still shooting but it's not exactly a shooter game, it's a Survival Horror game set in first person, but you don't have a gun at all times like a traditional FPS game.

this is probably one of the worst reviews for the game. It took me 16 hours to Beat It and I thought this was more Resident Evil than Resident Evil has been in a long time. there were a ton of scripted events and boss battles, puzzles were fun, enemies were tense and scary, and the story was interesting. I give IGN a 3.7/10 "too much fail"

To be honest is felt more Silent Hill like and where the hell are the zombies family doesn't look like some kind of Las plagas and the slimy looking things look cool but why isn't there any kind of change in the enemy it would have been cool to see some hunters in the woods
Jay Mike what's wrong with new characters? Let's be honest the series has been dead since re4 so starting fresh with new setting and characters was smart. They did however add a dlc in which you play as Chris.
I remember playing the very 1st Resident Evil on PS1 & it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Whether I was watching or playing, it was tense & was the coolest scariest game I had ever seen. We stayed up 2 days straight playing while eating chocolate espresso beans!

The fact that the game is getting 9's and 10's has nothing to do with my comment. I don't need to play through the whole game to be able to look at it and notice that it feels out of place compared to previous games of the franchise. If it didn't had "Resident Evil" on the title, I would asume it's just another VR jump scare game like Outlast and so many others. There is such a thing as aesthetic and gameplay consistence in franchises. RE4 was quite a departure gameplay-wise, but it still felt like a RE game, it had the same "feel" to it. This game has very little to none.
magaldi are you sure about that? have you played the demo? this game is has the most resident evil feel to it since resident evil 3. back tracking, low ammo, puzzles, survival horror, thrilling encounters, low inventory space, lore via documents, etc, etc. the only difference is were playing as a normal guy in first person
Ahmed Shafaq if that's the case, then Outlast is more Residen Evil than any game after 4. I understand that this game is going back to the survivor horro tropes, and that's great! The problem is, it's doing it a couple of indie games too late and too similar to other experiences. Say what you want about RE 5 and 6 (which, I don't like, let me make it clear!) but they look and feel in the same universe as the other games. This one? I swear, if you put a couple of this game screenshots next to previous games and a couple of indies like outlast people will have a hard time picking which ones are from the same franchise. I'm not saying the game is bad, I'm just saying it doesn't feel like RE. I'm much more excited for the remake of 2 than this one.

The game flunked too; When the series gets a makeover, somehow the games end up topping the previous games. RE4 and RE7 are a perfect example. RE2 and RE4 are still my favorite games in the series. Not crazy about 1,3 or CVX for that matter. I am not including any side stories are rail shooting either.
Just finished the game (took almost 14 h) and I can honestly say, one of the most terrifying and awesome horror games I've played in years. Great environment, graphics, music, voice acting, story...the only downside was that there were not that many different enemies. However, this is more of a horror than an action game, so the creepy atmosphere and survival horror is what really counts and with that Capcom did great. If you are a Resident Evil fan, this is a must-have game for you. For more casual players it is also a great survival horror experience.
After seeing the 7.7 score IGN gave and seeing how much people enjoyed it in the comments i decided to get this game last week and i am loving it so far lol.

They nailed this game. Took it back to its origins. Made a game that feels like the original but much improved in almost every aspect. Thank god they finally listened to their fans and did not pump out another shoot em up action game! How you give a game like this anything less than an 8 is beyond me.

I just finished this game, please dont fall for this trash review because the game is amazing. I never got bored and the atmosphere was great, visuals were amazing, story was surprisingly good with great plot twists. The boss fights could've been improved but i highly recommend playing this game.

Personally I think I would give it a 6 or 7. I liked but it had some significant problems for me. Maybe your perspective has been skewed because review sites rarely score AAA games below a 6. Really they use a scale of 5-10.
Just finished playing this and 7.7 is absolutely a fair score. The first half is great, but it really started to lose its way towards the end. Loved the bakers, but the molded are very generic, and there wasn’t enough variety.
This game is absolutely terrifying and a must play in VR. I played for 10 minutes then took a 10 minute break and played for another 10 minutes and took a 30 minute break after that I was able to play the game for like three hours straight and VR without a problem love it so much
I'm actually alright with IGN giving this game a 7.7... Because that means it's a phenomenal game. Alien: Isolation--Multiple GOTY nominations Doom--Multiple GOTY nominations ...both got low scores from IGN. So following this formula, RE 7 should get some GOTY nominations too from more respectable sources.
This is one of my favorite games, if you're reading this, don't let their disappointed review deter you from the game. It's definitely worth checking out, and if you were like me and love survival horror and were ticked about the cancellation of Silent Hills, this is a must have. Definitely worth buying at full price and I will be getting the DLC. Solid gameplay, solid story, solid overall. Get out there and buy it!
And I can't wait for the RE2 Remake!!! Hopefully, they'd give us options to play the game in either classic fixed camera angles, over-the-shoulder, and in first person. To be fair for RE VII, despite being in first person, actually feels a lot like the PSX games.
What people don't understand is that Resident evil 6 was reviewed by a different person... This game was also reviewed by another person.. there's a reason for scores, they gave the scores based on their opinion.
Started to play this last night and I love it so far. I think her score was a bit low but I think this is the newest form of RE and by the time a sequel arrives they might have beefed up the puzzle mechanics or maybe have more characters to chop up into pieces. Done right this franchise would become huge again.

RekoO classic RE....hm....the title of this game is places other than north America is Biohazard. ok i saw a family got infected by some virus and turnes into psychos, but other than that, where is the biohazard? Even in RE1, the outbreak killes almost all of the umbrella staffs in the mansion. it is a good survival horror game but not even a match to RE1
kbutta01 it better have fixed camera angles because Resident Evil 2 was awesome with fixed camera angles it gave the game a sense of scale and if you controlled the camera it wouldn't be as special.
My biggest problem here is that the catastrophic insult to horror gaming (and all gaming really) that was RE6 got a 7.9 (Gamespot rightfully gave it a 4.5) and RE7 (I own it on PSVR/PS4PRO) is unquestionably leagues more superior than that filth. I don't support my fellow gamers assailing and attacking IGN staff for any less than ideal review for a game they adore; however, I'm genuinely dumbfounded.....I heard they changed grading metrics since RE6 to be stricter but still, cmon guys.
Re6 is objectively a bad game, like it or not, re7 is also objectively a good or ok game, you can argue that it isnt a classic re game, but so was re4, but saying re7 is worse than an objectively known bad game is simply stupid, its like saying communism is better than capitalism, even tho you cant prove it by science, you can always judge things by looking at the general critics
RE4 was the best game of its year and among the best in its generation. And it had no scary moments in it. Im not saying im against this but i am a little tired of people poking problems like "too dark" "too actiony", if those are made properly you'd probably like the game. 7.7 is definitely too low. It got a 7.7 because the perception at the time was Capcom had lost their way, and critics were slightly dismissive of them. A lot of the reviews seems tainted by that perception. Like they're not reviewing the game based on its own quality, but with 5+ years of underwhelming Capcom titles influencing their opinions
Mr. Sensible that’s a fair point. Sometimes I like to rate games subconsciously in my own way. The problem is, this reviewer hardly mentioned anything about other Rezzy games in being “action based” and the series’ fall off. Nor did the reviewer mentioned any complaints with the game. This was just super lazy in all honesty.

Normally I don't play first person games but this game blew me away. The makers really went back to their roots. 10/10 Perfect storyline, conserve ammo and run away, keep what you need so you don't run out of space, all things that makes a Resident Evil game an awesome Resident Evil game is in this one.

Yeah there's still shooting but it's not exactly a shooter game, it's a Survival Horror game set in first person, but you don't have a gun at all times like a traditional FPS game.

this is probably one of the worst reviews for the game. It took me 16 hours to Beat It and I thought this was more Resident Evil than Resident Evil has been in a long time. there were a ton of scripted events and boss battles, puzzles were fun, enemies were tense and scary, and the story was interesting. I give IGN a 3.7/10 "too much fail"

I remember playing the very 1st Resident Evil on PS1 & it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time! Whether I was watching or playing, it was tense & was the coolest scariest game I had ever seen. We stayed up 2 days straight playing while eating chocolate espresso beans!

If it didn't had "Resident Evil" on the title, I would asume it's just another VR jump scare game like Outlast and so many others.
There is such a thing as aesthetic and gameplay consistence in franchises. RE4 was quite a departure gameplay-wise, but it still felt like a RE game, it had the same "feel" to it. This game has very little to none.

I understand that this game is going back to the survivor horro tropes, and that's great! The problem is, it's doing it a couple of indie games too late and too similar to other experiences.
Say what you want about RE 5 and 6 (which, I don't like, let me make it clear!) but they look and feel in the same universe as the other games.
This one? I swear, if you put a couple of this game screenshots next to previous games and a couple of indies like outlast people will have a hard time picking which ones are from the same franchise.

Uhhh yeah... Resident Evil: Survivor for PS1 is in first person. First person perspective is nothing new to the series.

This was exactly my thought when i see videos acting like its the first time they saw a resident evil fps.
The game flunked too; When the series gets a makeover, somehow the games end up topping the previous games. RE4 and RE7 are a perfect example. RE2 and RE4 are still my favorite games in the series. Not crazy about 1,3 or CVX for that matter. I am not including any side stories are rail shooting either.

Just finished the game (took almost 14 h) and I can honestly say, one of the most terrifying and awesome horror games I've played in years. Great environment, graphics, music, voice acting, story...the only downside was that there were not that many different enemies. However, this is more of a horror than an action game, so the creepy atmosphere and survival horror is what really counts and with that Capcom did great. If you are a Resident Evil fan, this is a must-have game for you. For more casual players it is also a great survival horror experience.
After seeing the 7.7 score IGN gave and seeing how much people enjoyed it in the comments i decided to get this game last week and i am loving it so far lol.

They nailed this game. Took it back to its origins. Made a game that feels like the original but much improved in almost every aspect. Thank god they finally listened to their fans and did not pump out another shoot em up action game! How you give a game like this anything less than an 8 is beyond me.

I just finished this game, please dont fall for this trash review because the game is amazing. I never got bored and the atmosphere was great, visuals were amazing, story was surprisingly good with great plot twists. The boss fights could've been improved but i highly recommend playing this game.

Just finished playing this and 7.7 is absolutely a fair score. The first half is great, but it really started to lose its way towards the end. Loved the bakers, but the molded are very generic, and there wasn’t enough variety.

This game is absolutely terrifying and a must play in VR. I played for 10 minutes then took a 10 minute break and played for another 10 minutes and took a 30 minute break after that I was able to play the game for like three hours straight and VR without a problem love it so much

This is one of my favorite games, if you're reading this, don't let their disappointed review deter you from the game. It's definitely worth checking out, and if you were like me and love survival horror and were ticked about the cancellation of Silent Hills, this is a must have. Definitely worth buying at full price and I will be getting the DLC. Solid gameplay, solid story, solid overall. Get out there and buy it!

Started to play this last night and I love it so far. I think her score was a bit low but I think this is the newest form of RE and by the time a sequel arrives they might have beefed up the puzzle mechanics or maybe have more characters to chop up into pieces. Done right this franchise would become huge again.

My biggest problem here is that the catastrophic insult to horror gaming (and all gaming really) that was RE6 got a 7.9 (Gamespot rightfully gave it a 4.5) and RE7 (I own it on PSVR/PS4PRO) is unquestionably leagues more superior than that filth.

RE4 was the best game of its year and among the best in its generation. And it had no scary moments in it. Im not saying im against this but i am a little tired of people poking problems like "too dark" "too actiony", if those are made properly you'd probably like the game. THOSE ARE NOT PROBLEMS, those are just aspects, problems is lack of direction, focus, work, etc. I'll get to work sorry for the rant
