@@shilohbell1573 yeah, they were dumb enough to shoot the 20 year old man that would have been the most dangerous to them in the foot but kill everyone else!
It kind of makes sense though. If it's the victim's weapon it can't be traced back or linked to a 2nd party purchase or owner. Kind of like stabbing someone with their own kitchen knife. The stupidest thing is leaving it behind, but then carrying a long arm through a neighbourhood is pretty suspicious. But but then then there was a lot of forest around to bury it on the way out. Anyway, at least the kid got his wish; free board and 3 squares a day.

That looks like a nice, big, super comfy house...probably had super cozy beds and lots of great home cooked meals, a big tv in every room, lots of room for everyone to enjoy privacy when needed but also, a loving family to ask you how your day was....I'm sure Alex is living a very different life now and it makes me happy to know that he will never experience those comforts that his parents provided him, ever again.
I wish people would think through the potential consequences of their actions, be it driving drunk or massacring their whole family. God's Word says "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he". Make sure you take control of your thoughts before they lead you down paths of evil and you have to pay the price for your actions.
if he was telling me this i can tell he’s very likely bull shitting anyone in that situation wouldve been sobbing and trying to get his family who were shot medical care and the way he’s talking sounds like he’s forging a story as he is being asked
It's rare that someone breaks in just to kill everyone. It's usually at night, and they bring their own weapon. I'm sure they were immediately suspicious
Well, without the context this says absolutely nothing. He was heavily medicated at that moment and he also could have been under shock. Not exactly circumstances where you behave/react like you normally would. Some medication can make you seem emotionless. Greetings from Germany :)
dude right. him being high af only furthers it being sus to me, because it sounds like he was trying really hard to make it sound genuine, or like he even rehearsed it at some point in his head and was really trying to nail it, and ended up fucking himself over even more by sounding like an actual AI
The day he was born, proud parents must have held this bundle of joy smiling ear to ear, sharing thier happiness with everyone who knew them, not knowing that 20 years the person they gave life to would end up ending their lives .. What an absolute p o s ..
@@lasmujeresnotienenpollAs He certainly didn't ask in the parts we saw and there was no reference to it in any of the police videos. It's also typical behavior for people who do this sort of thing. @@lasmujeresnotienenpollAs what do you think yourself? he didnt bat an eye on the verdict so his only regret was getting caught, not that he killed his family because they wanted him to get a job
Not once did he ask if anyone else was ok. If that had really happened I would be dragging my ouchy foot all around that house screaming for my mom and sister....
I love how immediately suspicious the cops were the body cam starts with the guy wearing it literally saying something like “this is bullshit” then they are just expediting the interrogation right in the hospital room, haven’t seen that yet, thanks mike! That chapter wins again 🎉
Well, frankly, that is TERRIBLE because it compromises the investigation. Honestly surprised the defense didn't use that as "evidence" the suspect was being railroaded.
As soon as Alex said his family had been shot, especially by their own gun and was safe with a flesh wound, I knew he’d killed them. The cop at 7:30 knew Alex’s story “sounded like bullshit” too. Such a tragic and heartbreaking event. Well covered as always, Mike! This life insurance dance is a new personal favorite :)
Yep. It's not in this That Chapter, but the Law&Crime footage of the kid being loaded on the gurney, one of the officers behind Alex uses sign language to signal to the healthcare workers he says "we think" then he points at Alex and makes a gun-hand gesture with his thumb moving in a 'shooting' motion. As soon as they were in the house they knew.
I mean, his entire family was murdered in front of him and he was just like "dang, my foot hurts a bit." I don't think it takes 48 hours of deliberation to slap a guilty af sticker on this guy and send him to prison for life. Sure, we don't know what his motive is, but also, who cares. We don't need to know why when it's so obvious that he did it. Even if, by some miracle, invisible people exist and he actually didn't do it, he still should go to prison for life for not having a soul.
I LOVE when the bodycam footage shows cops disbelieving someone openly. The one where Chris Watts' neighbor says "he's acting weird" is also priceless.
“Farewell Alex, we hardly knew ya.” ~ Think on that a minute… he’s 20 years old. His life story living among us, contributing to society, interacting with life and nature…. over. He spent the first 18 years of his life having a future, two years of his life on the couch eating pizza and playing Halo, and the next 50 years or so confined to a one square mile plot of land being told what to do. “Hardly knew ya.”~ … true. Blows my mind.
Yes agreed. Since my child was grown up long before Covid I could not even guess what 2 years of sitting at home playing video games would do to a teenager’s attitude but that said I would not think it would then cause him to execute the family when he is told he needs to get a job. Sad story anyway you look at it
Detective: Do you want us to make a report about a guy in your house that we have no evidence of? Alex: Of course there was a guy there, I saw him. Detective: is this guy in the room with us right now?
The detective being questioned is being very patient with the defense attorney. "Why if you had a weapon, would you use the family's weapon?" "Because it's a better weapon." The look on the detective's face.
@@gingerjohnson2249 If I entered someone house to murder someone, and found a gun, id much rather use that gun and leave it behind then use the weapon I did bring.

@@EAGLEVISION666 Not really lol. I'd say theres very few cases where a murderer shows up to kill people without a weapon or with a shitty one and then just happens to find a gun laying on the ground like GTA. Fully loaded for their convenience too. Most people keep guns locked up or hidden well. Doubt it was just sitting on the coffee table in the living room or proped up on the Laz-E-Boy recliner. Even rarer would be to pick up a gun like that where the loading process is very odd (side and back loaded instead of top) and be able to reload it like the case report states. That should never be taken as proof of anything by itself. Shock and delayed reactions can look similar to unemotional murder. It's one piece of a puzzle.
People react to trauma in different ways. Some people burst out laughing while feeling sheer terror and anguish deep inside. Some people remain stoic. I couldn’t shed a single tear in the hours after hearing my grandma had died suddenly. I was in agony inside but for at least 5 days I literally couldn’t cry. It made me feel like I was dying inside but I couldn’t produce a single tear until I had a stupid argument with my brother and everything I had packed down exploded at once; I couldn’t even fucking move I was crying so bad. That’s just how we are; everyone is wired differently and lack of emotional reactions to horrible news is not an indication of guilt nor is opening the tear floodgates an indication of innocence. Sorry for the long ass paragraph; just wanted to give some real life context.
@@pugachevskobra5636 I mean, yeah you're technically right, everybody does react different. I found it hard to cry about my grandmothers death too, but she also didn't get murdered infront of me or I didn't witness her passing first hand. I think that would be tough for anyone to witness and remain calm. His lack of any type of emotion or being more inquisitive about his family being just murdered infront of him is very telling for investigators I'm sure. They are trained to discern genuine emotion from fake I would assume. So this was rather easy for them.
An intruder never systematically murders people in their bed. Period. An intruder is looking for some cash and getting the hell outta there. This is 100% a boy killing his family. Cops knew this from the get go.
And this crazy intruder black and wearing black shot the poor boy in the foot? After he shot everyone execution style? And then left? This is the strangest intruder ever. Did he even leave with money? Jewels? So Mr Random executed this guys entire family, left him with a grazing injury, and just took off. Well.
@@saraphinn Even more weird is that the 'intruder' didn't come with a gun. Alex is trying to say that the supposed intruder basically broke in to rob them, discovered an extremely niche gun, knew how to use it, and spontaneously executed the entire family 🤦
We had an intruder early in the morning once and that is exactly what happened. The person took a few small items from the living room (a camera, my wallet, etc) but promptly fled after opening my bedroom door and finding me awake.

The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me, especially when everything is on the line. I mean, why bother to do this with any forethought, what is the worst that could happen, go to jail the rest of your life?

That first clip gave me chills. Imagine being a police officer and breathing a sigh of relief because you think your call resulted from a swatting attempt, only to walk into this horrific scene.
I can't help wondering how many times law enforcement knows right away what actually happened and how hard it is for them not to let loose a little justice for the victims they find. Such a thankless job these people most of who aren't corrupt have.

I know that the police suspected him immediately but it was not necessary to mock them over the detail (his unemployement) that maybe caused the whole klling spree. I reckon it is a dirty trick to get information from a suspect to play with them, but I always see it somewhat unnecessary. This kid was fcked at the moment he decided to eliminate his family. How could he have botched that so hard 😭 The blood leading out of his room from where he shot his foot then limped out had me cackling. I'm also nearly 100% certain that nobody has ever JUST been shot in the foot during a B&E.
Everybody else got murdered with cruel precision, shots certain to kill without immediate medical intervention (if you're lucky) and yet all they shot was his....foot...? Clearly they didn't need to aim for the head as there wasn't much up there.

His eye twitched. I laughed at that part because what kind of defense is that??

Alexander sounds a little slow, to think anyone was going to buy this story!
Title didn't give it away? 😉

Even rarer would be to pick up a gun like that where the loading process is very odd (side and back loaded instead of top) and be able to reload it like the case report states. All while trying to remain undetected? No way in hell brother. That's some John Wick shit.

Alex seemed pretty calm for someone who’s whole family was murdered
And for someone who just murdered his whole family
So this was rather easy for them.
well looking at all crime trails.. most of them are because they are mentally ill
Alex is trying to say that the supposed intruder basically broke in to rob them, discovered an extremely niche gun, knew how to use it, and spontaneously executed the entire family 🤦
well unless thats their goal but then the detectives know its VERY personal or they have a serial/spree killer depending on method
Petit family had two girls murdered in their beds. but that was clearly a case where no family member was involved, unlike this.
We had an intruder early in the morning once and that is exactly what happened. The person took a few small items from the living room (a camera, my wallet, etc) but promptly fled after opening my bedroom door and finding me awake.
The moment an affluent man child comes across any hardship: "Guess I gotta off my family 🤷"

Exactly. Calling this guy a manchild feels insulting to children and to the maturity of the average manchild. He's a manbaby.
I recall an item going missing at a friend's house, and everyone thought the young boy living there had taken it.
Funny thing, he didn't. But he behaved exactly as a guilty child would have, with "maybe the wind took it" as his theory of what happened.
@Baron von Quiply Yeah
Sometimes children intimidated can act this way also.
When he was laying on the ground I thought he was trying to feign shock. But kept talking that way after.
That first clip gave me chills. Imagine being a police officer and breathing a sigh of relief because you think your call resulted from a swatting attempt, only to walk into this horrific scene.
Not to mention, you then have to walk through the entire house checking for the person who just killed 3 people and injured one.
I can't help wondering how many times law enforcement knows right away what actually happened and how hard it is for them not to let loose a little justice for the victims they find. Such a thankless job these people most of who aren't corrupt have.

His intellect is no match for any decent detective. So, in my op, no need for these kind of behaviour, though i imagine, they were incredibly frustrated and shocked due to this horrible event. RIP to the family.
It’s not extremely common.
Only “common” for those who watch true crime stuff and other similar media.
These incidents are actually quite rare.
Omg..the life insurance part lol. Thank you so much for your hard work Mike! This was just disgusting to see a beautiful family murdered. Absolutely heartbreaking
I love the life insurance dance
Honestly think he's too dumb to have thought of life insurance scheme
If anyone ever needed to say 'I need to speak to a lawyer' it is this guy.
what a stupid statement.. even if you are innocent always ask for a lawyer, the cops wont treat you the same lol
Mike, you are most deserving of your success. You have produced quality content on a weekly basis and have built a devoted following. I am just thrilled for you!
Right on!!! ✅️ he's the best by far!
I was on TikTok Live and someone asked for suggestions to watch. I typed two words... THAT CHAPTER!
I was amazed at how many people said Yes! That Chapter is the best! Yes! Watch That Chapter! Yes! Mike is the best!
There were over 100 comments telling that person to watch Mike! All this time I thought it was just me and Mike! 😆
The world loves you Mike!
AGREED! 110%
Agree completely. I never subscribe to anyone. He's one of the only ones I have
How could he have botched that so hard 😭 The blood leading out of his room from where he shot his foot then limped out had me cackling. I'm also nearly 100% certain that nobody has ever JUST been shot in the foot during a B&E.
😂😂😂
The cops knew cuz they ain’t even care about his a$$ laying on floor 😂😂😂
"That's slowed him down for at least a few minutes, let's make good my escape!"
Everybody else got murdered with cruel precision, shots certain to kill without immediate medical intervention (if you're lucky) and yet all they shot was his....foot...? Clearly they didn't need to aim for the head as there wasn't much up there.
It's shocking to me how people do shit like this without thinking a single detail through to natural conclusions. This guy, Chandler Halderson, Grant Amato, all leaving a literal perfect trail of detailed evidence leading directly to themselves. I guess we can be grateful for that.
My God this story is heartbreaking! I would give anything to have a family like his & he just throws it all away.
It happens more than one realizes, unfortunately!!!🙏😢⚖️🤔❣️
Man, that kid didn't think ANYTHING thru! (Thanks for the insurance montage! I can't seem to get enough of it!💝)
I ADORE how you say “tirdy”! ❤
The sick part of this is he's not alone in the twisted sick mindset thinking the wise choice is to kill your family when confronted with getting off their ass and get on the adulting train. I will never understand how anyone can do this, but I'm so glad he was so dumb that the investigator was actually telling him what he should have done to try and get away with murder.
Mike we love you and are so proud of your next "chapter" (see what I did there 😉) in life and are so excited to listen to your podcast! I have to say you will be the first and only one I've ever thought about listening to and will listen to. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Joel Guy vibes...not quite so sicko, though...
Well, at least he got his wish for the rest of his miserable life in prison...he won't have to find a job!!
So stupid, God forbid he gets off his ass and gets a job, such a senseless crime.
@gordonaliasme1104 Reminds me of the kid who supposedly fell down the stairs and had a serious spinal injury that he greatly exaggerated. Also lied about being enrolled in college and had a job lined up at NASA. Dad finally found out he lied about being enrolled so the son knew he wad cornered and killed his parents.
@@crimsontide1980 I think the job was at SpaceX.
"Who pays for your Chic-filet" from the detective had me cracking up.
Edit- Guess it's spelled Chic-Fil-A
Your edit is correct, but you wouldn't know that if you hadn't been or lived in the South Eastern, Southern part of the country. I'm actually eating Chick-fil-A nuggets right now! LOL 😂
Never eat Chic-Fil-A, it’s owned by an extreme evangelical who doesn’t like anyone who disagrees with his beliefs.

@@oncoucharrest5910 that's pretty good trick considering Truett Cathy died September 8, 2014. @Just a Gen X dirtbag, baby can't argue with that! 🤟
23:35 the way he said, "they are important to me, I loved them" gave me goosebumps...
Omg, I've only watched a few people tell crime stories, and have always been more toward the interrogations, and watching after and/or during the actual crime had been done. I saw " the " chapter " mentioned in one of the comments on the Murdaugh murders and checked it out. And wow, I've watched 2 episodes, and I am addicted! You've got a knack for this storytelling!!! I haven't even gotten halfway through my second video and am so impressed!!! The first one I watched was "preparing to commit an evil crime that shocked the country" and I am just in the middle of "staging a home invasion" and I am HOOKED!!! LOL...That is a huge compliment considering I am currently subscribed to 32 true crime shows.....omg that is the first time I've counted that!!! Great job!
Me too!!! I love watching the long interrogation channels, stranger stories, jcs, ewu, and then i veered off with the Behavior Panel, but then i saw a mention from a comment too about “that chapter” a couple times before i actually tried it…. Been hooked ever since!! Binge watching too lol ❤
“Who pays for your chick-fil-a” got me cackling 😂
Mike. The weirdest thing. I’ve been meaning to tell you because I felt like I was in an alternate universe when this happened.
So I go to my parents house to visit. I’m 29. Walk into my parents kitchen and I hear your voice…? Burst into my parents room and my dad is laying on his bed watching That Chapter. Super casually. I was like WHAT are you doing. YOU like That Chapter!? And my dad “yeah, he’s good. Give it a GOOO”
😂😂😂
My father and I do not talk regularly..(I’m a female and we just don’t bc he’s an old dude and hes antisocial & likes old dude things mostly) so I was truly shocked to make the discovery that we both adore you. What a time to be alive. And yes I made sure he knows about the new podcast already 😂
Maybe your father doesn’t want to talk to you on a regular basis as he is disappointed in how you have turned out and your choice of partners..💁🏻♂️
@@markturner977 uh sorry..who are you? Lol
I’ll edit just to add that our relationship is just fine, was only trying to attest that there was no time in the past we spoke about That Chapter or even RUclips at all, so it makes it that much more of a coincidence.
Say Hey Ari, Unlike Mark, I found your story to be very touching. I called two different friends and relayed it to them. It's crazy how connections and coincidences just pop out of nowhere. I'm sure TC Mike will love your comment if he reads it.

When he said "they are important to me, I love them" I almost crawled out of my skin. He said it so monotone and matter-of-fact as if he was reading a script.

While it’s amazing how unbelievably dumb this dude was, there is nothing funny about an annihilated family 🤦🏻♀️
There’s a funny moment in his interrogation where he says very quietly “OK…. I didn’t realize there was a camera back there…” Back there meaning the back basement door the supposed intruder left through.
There's a lot he didn't realize. I thought eagle scouts were supposed to be prepared.

Congratulations on the podcast, Mike. Really appreciate your content.
It's educational, empathic towards the victims, with a sprinkling of that dark humour reserved for the perpetrators.
Super skilful researcher & storyteller.
It's great to have seen your progression from where you started.
Best wishes to you.
How would you know that it was a "lovely family"? You know nothing about them, other than the fact that the son killed them.
@@jesmarina they're fucking dead, dude. Jesus christ
The son clearly never knew a hard day if them telling him to get a job at *20 years old* was too much of an ask for him to handle. You think they ever actually harmed this kid?
@@jesmarina The son himself said his family was good to him. If their own murderer has nothing bad to say, I think it's safe to conclude that they were in fact, a lovely family. That just wasn't enough for his greedy, lazy ass.
@@jesmarinaI think it’s safe to say they were lovely compared to their son?!
@jesmarina okay, I'll bite.
Unless they were guilty of some sort of heinous family abuse of the murdering manchild, I think it's safe to deduce they did not deserve to die in their own home or anywhere.
It sounds like you're upset at an assumption they were lovely people.

Absolutely. Obvious
lol, that's what I said too
Shock
“yeah she’s in her room” (in the most casual tone ever)
“IS SHE OKAY?”
“I….I *think* so??”
God he is unbelievably bad at lying…..I feel like he was really annoyed that the cops weren’t doting on him or giving him a wittle cuddle 🥺 him had a boo boo 😢
Also, he was literally sitting next to his father’s dead body for a prolonged period of time….and he didn’t shed a tear or even look at him??? I know that shock is definitely a real thing, but I just don’t see how there would be no emotion at all. Nor did he tell the first responders to check on his mom and sister….they had to ask HIM first. He didn’t bother because he already knew they were gone…..it’s just disgusting.
He's also incredibly stupid. "Uh foot" "Black male or black shirt?" Alex: "Yes"
His lovely family get shot in the head and that dozy test gets shot in the foot? That's it? 😅 Even the cops said it sounded bullshit

You will never believe the level of arrogance that someone possesses, until you see it first hand. Alot of folk live with and keep the company of very dangerous and conniving individuals. Why are there so many men who end up like this, far out. There are so many stories identical to this. Just get a damn job, you don't need to kill your entire fkn family. The fact that the reality of KILLING YOUR FAMILY, and hoping to get away with it so you don't have to move out or pay rent or divorce your spouse or whatever, truly boggles my mind

Sort of a point in his favor there. I mean there were so many loose ends that didn't make sense, the kid clearly wasn't the brightest bulb, yet if he did do it, he planned it so well the cops couldn't even disprove his story.
