I recently heard of a case in the UK where the family pushed for this same thing be made into a law and I believe the compromise they landed on was that whether or not the convicted killer revealed the location of the body would be incorporated into parole considerations (ie - you can't deny parole based solely on this but you should take it into consideration to determine if they've really demonstrated remorse regarding their actions) I think that's something Canada would be able to adopt as well.

If Will Samson's two neighbors had called the police as soon as they saw the dead, or almost-dead, body of Taylor Samson, the family would've had Taylor's body and would not be in agony now, wondering what happened to him, and if they'll ever be able to lay him to rest (in whatever way they choose). Such a shame that those two neighbors opted to not do anything, and now who knows where Taylor is, and the family continues to have that extra layer of pain. Such a dang shame, truly.

I really don't think it's fair to blame anyone for the Sampson family's suffering other than the person who murdered Taylor. The neighbour and his friend who witnessed Taylor only saw him from behind (he was still upright at the table with his back facing the door). There was blood visible so the situation was definitely suspicious at best but they didn't see an obviously dead body - that was only clear in hindsight. Neither of them went into the apartment further than just the doorway. The neighbour later said he didn't tell police bc there were rumours that Sandeson was involved in organized crime and he was scared of him.

Thank you for being here. I recently lost both my mother and shortly after, my Son died unexpectedly under suspicious circumstances. When this nightmare scenario hits close to home it is impossible to describe or explain to anyone how deeply the grief of loss impacts you, how the agony of not knowing the Truth is devastating. Along with LE failing to actually investigate, despite clear evidence of foul play, my world is shattered, so any distraction from the constant pain is appreciated. Somehow listening to you provides me with some respite and comfort. Thank you again darling. Love, "mom".

Laura, thank you for the heartfelt response. People should know how very much a few words or a brief call can mean to the families and loved ones experiencing the death of a loved one, suddenly, without warning. Its like being hit by a thunderbolt, followed by lightning that sears into the depths of your Soul, and pulverizes your heart into a thousand pieces. This is something I would never wish upon my worst enemy, though I don't have any in particular. Some things no one should have to endure, but we do, and are able to move forward one tentative step at a time toward healing as we cope with accepting the unacceptable, with the help of kind people like you. People are often afraid to speak to the bereaved. It does take courage and true compassion. God Bless You honey. You are very intuitive and have gifted me with a sense of tranquility, knowing there are people who don't know me, yet care enough to reach out. XxxOoo

All I can tell you is if you have the strength, keep knocking on doors trying to find someone in the know who will help you deal with LE. Don't give up - if you believe it was foul play, then keep attempting to get LE to help you.

One thing about living in Canada that is so frustrating and wrong is that no matter how heinous the crime (like murder, child sa etc.), that we grant the chance of parole after 25 years without exception.
I've heard someone describe it as a life sentence for the victims and families (as they have to agonize over going to parole hearings with all the stress that brings). Imagine dealing with the potential parole of the monsters who hurt you or your loved ones, every few years for the rest of your life (never knowing for sure if they'll be released on the whim of some stranger).
I am all for rehabilitation and release as opposed to simply punitive imprisonment over nonviolent offences in particular, but when it comes to _some_ criminals and crimes I think we push that to the extreme in this country which ends up also punishing the victims instead.

Having a chance at parole doesn't mean they get parole. They can be in prison for life, just applying for parole over and over. Holmolka got away with what she did because at the time she seemed like a victim of domestic violence and the RCMP made a deal with her to testify against her husband Paul Bernardo. It was later when evidence was discovered that proved she was an equal partner in the murders. The deal could not be undone. She's a complete malignant narcissist.

Taylor WAS just selling a little bit of weed to subsidize his tuition - this particular deal was a total outlier, significantly larger than anything he'd done before. If I remember correctly, his girlfriend and/or a couple friends tried to talk him out of it bc they felt the situation was much more dangerous than what he had been doing up to that point (sadly, their concerns were justified). By all accounts, Taylor did it bc of how much tuition it would cover.
Also, as Mike mentions, Canada was just a few years away from completely legalizing marijuana. And the culture in Halifax was pretty permissive of weed usage. Dealing it would still land you in serious legal trouble but I can understand how someone would be able to justify it as being safer than it really was bc truly a large percentage of people in that area just didn't see it as a big deal.

I can still go for a walk. i can still hug my cat, even if she may not be ready for it. You know? I mean, we can do all the things that Will Sandeson can't do. Love you Mike, enjoy the evening and your freedom :)

Whenever a body can’t be recovered for the family, it makes the situation even harder in my humble opinion. You can’t even properly lay your loved one to rest where you know they will be. It just seems extremely unfair to me. I think there should be an extreme punishment for people that won’t tell the families where the bodies are or if a body cannot be recovered because of some heinous act that was committed on them the punishment should be harsher.

Mike, you've covered far more brutal cases than this one, but for some reason this one seems so sad to me. He was just trying to get by and work his way through school. It's also unlikely his body will ever be found. Maybe a piece might wash up in the future, thanks to DNA at least that could be identified.
You know it's crimes like this that give weed bad connotations. It shouldn't be associated with a murder! It's just a shame 😕
But thanks for sharing Mike. I hadn't heard this one before. Love you too 😘

I agree. Even when we see the cctv footage of Taylor entering Will's house and Will greets him with a friendly smile, it's hard to imagine what he would do afterwards.
Now that we know, it seems like a cold-blooded murder for cash.

Mark twitchell was a moron, if he had really paid attention during the Dexter show, he would not have been caught. He made stupid mistakes too. I'm not saying you can get away with murder, but some people do.
