Well great video. But my bike and all upgrades was about $1200. At 58 years old I'm happy with hydraulic breaks and Shimano 3×8 gearing. Hell from my old ten speed bike to this cool shifting system I'm upgrading! Lol. I just hope I don't break my neck n smash my jewls. AWSOME VIDEO.
Thanks! Bikes can get costly so quick. I think you have the right idea, ride and enjoy, and hope that the jewels end the day as good as they started! LOL
@Matthew Cary - Thanks! I've had the 429 for almost a year now, and I'm happy with it. If you are looking for a short travel (120mm) speed machine, then this one is hard to beat. The only downside may be descending. Depending on how you're used to riding, this bike works best if you're a little more intentional with you line choice. It's a really fun bike, and is just seems to hook up and go.
@@elroobike Thank you for the response and giving me somethings to consider. I’m new to mtn biking, and looking to buy my first full suspension MTB. I do think 120 will enough suspension for the type of riding I’m doing plus my current skill level. Not bombing down any hills yet. Any advice for a rookie choosing his first bike?
@giorgiosarriccchio2633 - I have only tried the AXS first gen, but I recently rode with a friend who upgraded to the new AXS system and asked them all about it. They said the most notable improvement was shifting under power. Riding behind them I noticed the servos are quieter when shifting and overall they look better. BUT the upgrade comes at a very large cost. So depending on your situation, it may make more sense to wait until your next bike rather than upgrade. That's my plan.
@elroobike I have the gx and was thinking of getting the new gx, which I found for £750. I was thinking if I wore to mess up the derailleur, I would have to replace the whole thing instead of just a part. Also I struggle to choose the right gear and always worry about shifting under load and hearing unwanted sounds 😕
@giorgiosarriccchio2633 - if your frame is set up to take the new UTM type derailleur, and it's in budget for you, it's always fun to try new parts. If you end up upgrading, I would like to hear your thoughts on it.
@@elroobike I only got my bike march this year 2nd hand and I wouldn't say anything I have done a lot on it yet. I've only done a couple hundred miles on my bike and so not entirely if there is any point for me yet because I am still a bit of a novice
One more thing…the new cranks are DUB WIDE which means it’s for a 55mm chainline. That’s in between boost and super boost so I’m super confused if the system will run on non boost and boost frames.
Yeah, that is weird. I called up a local bike shop and they said the strangest thing for them was the timing of this announcement. The 2023 bikes are already built and shipping to stores. Bike manufactures may not even have time to add this into their 2024 line up. I guess time will tell what happens with this new system.
@@elroobike so r we saying that this will not actaully work on my 2023 turbo levo?? also curious if u know if we can use our old regualar AXS shifter/remotes on the new system?? would love to know
Damn I wish this set up would fit my frame set but alas it will not....I'd love to shift my eBike under full power....guess I'll have to get another bike to find out...
The Lost Co said it’s not worth it. Cuz Mike rode both systems back to back and realized how well original AXS shifts. True the new Transmission is easier to install and adjust. It is also supposed to shift well under load. Apart from these 2 pros, if you’re mechanically inclined and know how to shift, the price tag isn’t worth it. To be honest I have XO1 mechanical on my secondary bike and it shifts awesome under load all day every day.
The new system has a very high price which makes it REAL hard to justify as an upgrade. I would like to give it a go and try it out. So hard to know if the differences will be noticeable and beneficial to the way I personally ride.
@@elroobike I think you’ll notice the setup and install very easy but that’s just a one time deal/feel. But when riding I think you’ll like the fact you can shift anytime with reckless abandon. That will be the big game changer.
It's spendy for sure - it will be interesting if by 2024 they keep the pricing that high. It seems they are targeting the new system for OEM builds not aftermarket upgrades.
I’ll keep my current Eagle AXS and get another bike sometime this fall with the new SRAM transmission/
@Georgia Guardian - I totally agree. I am excited to try the new system, might be a good excuse to add a new bike to the collection???

Great video. I wanted to see how you’re liking your trail 429. I’m saving for a bike and was wondering if you have any recommendations.

have you tried them both? is it worth upgrading to the newer one for the people who have the older generation?
