I like the idea of no adjustment derailleur. Set and forget is the dream. Too bad my drive train is almost new. Look forward to having this on my next bike.
The transmission will turn into a smartphone in the future, it will constantly annoy with its updates, now it is not, but in the future it will be exactly like that. The mechanics are excellent, electro poop.

Got the XOon my new Pivot Firebird and yes it’s a game changer especially on the climbs and having the option of 2-3 or full walk when holding the Botton up or down shifting is cool 😎 also 👍 Going to hard going back to my other bikes and having to remember to shift before sharp pinches 😮
Thank you so much for the kind words! We spent a ridiculous amount of time and energy to make this video as fun as possible since it's pretty freaking long due to the immense amount of new tech. I'm super happy you had a great time watching it 🙂 -Mike
Fully agree … best video ever over the whole Internet about this new product. Full of energy, fun a important details highlighted the way bikers want to see … THANKS GUYS.
Great review guys! I upgraded to Shimano Di2 R9200 wireless on my road bike about two years ago. The transition to XX was a no-brainer. Love wireless shifting.
with the shifting being dictated by software to match the chain with the narrow wide teeth on the cassette will there ever be a cable version? I like the new mechanical innovation but I don't think I'll ever put a battery needing component on my bike. I don't want to have an afternoon free to ride and find that I can't go because I forgot to charge my shifter battery. I want the reliability of cables.
At 16:44 it looks like the chrome AXS logo plate on the controller pod is missing. I suppose it's held in place by weak glue and the plate fell off during test rides?
I like the continuous chain/cassette engagement and the hardened tool steel X-dome of the XX T-Type. What I don't like is the higher pricing in Canada even when allowing for the currency exchange.
I’m just waiting for them to release a rainbow version of this cassette haha or other fun colors like on the “regular” eagle stuff. It’s only a matter of time! With that being said, just ordered a transmission set from you guys for a new Nomad build and stoked to try it out! Even though I’m a little sad the raw aluminum color scheme won’t match my build quite as well 😋
Can I still use my thru axle with a handle to easily remove/put-back-on the rear wheel, or do I now need a wrench to remove/put-back-on the rear wheel? And if I need a wrench to remove/put-back-on the rear wheel, must it be a torque wrench?
great informative video. this will put new life into my giant trance 1, once the current system dies. I hate batteries but it seems they last a long time. What happens if you are on the trail and the battery dies?
Sounds great, the only issue I can see is if the derailleur gets caught on something your frame is going to take all of that force which could crack the carbon, damage linkage, linkage bearings etc. Very slick though.
According to several product listings X0 should have the Magic Wheel as well. It's nice of course, but rarely a stick or something else gets caught inside that wheel and Magic Wheel imo has no effect on a stick getting caught between chain and wheel.
Any update on the coating of that xo cassette? Looks like the new xx has done away with that, but the coating my xo1 cassette wore off on the first few rides. Wondering if the same would happen on this new stuff!
Hey Caleb! I've been hammering on the new X0 cassette for a while and haven't noticed any discoloration. I was on the GX 10-52 cassette before this and DEFINITELY noticed the coating wearing away, but I've also got lots more miles on that setup. Hard to say for the long term but so far this cassette looks brand new after a month! -Tor
@@GHinWI I read that the only difference with chain was the plate thickness (and flat top). If that’s true and the internal width and pitch remain same it makes no sense?
I enjoyed the video~ I have one question for you. Can I replace my current xx1 derailleur with the xx t-type of this product? I want to just use the remaining chain, sprockets and crank as a group from xx1 and just replace the derailleur!
And then there is the new cassette driver that’s need or new hub and if you don’t run SRAM already. Tack that onto the $2000. And possibly the new rear triangle etc etc. Is it really cost effective ❓
If you smash the derialleur its gonna affect to the chainstay frame axle because of dicert connection and same are take the damage because without RD hanger...your bike will be trash after the damage..rd hanger is safer for derailleur and frame if you accidentally crash and rd hanger can take the damage but easy to replace...
But the passive measures in place here are pretty amazing. It won’t be an issue for most riders. If you’re hucking your shit with reckless abandon in tough terrain, I think some people may have issue beyond replaceable parts
I thought the reason for the derailleur hanger was that when I buy a complete bike with sram, I can tear off the crappy drivetrain and replace it with Shimano…
Does this mean that the whole force will go into the carbon frame? Because earlier, you had hanger due to not to bend, destroy rear mech and/or frame - what about now? Will it just pass the force directly to the frame, I guess?
Looking at how it is designed, it looks like the force will be shared between the frame, hub, and axle which is exactly what happens when you get an impact to your wheel.
Yeah in this video they claim the reason for hangers was to protect the derailleur but really it was to make sure your bike wasn't a write off every time you crashed. To me hangers are even more important on fragile carbon frames that love to crack. I suspect sram figures anyone who can afford this drivetrain can afford a new frame whenever it breaks. I would be worried about this becoming the standard in the future
More information on how this technology works with E bikes, would be greatly appreciated. Most rear wheel hub drives can’t take a 12 speed cassette. Are there going to be transmissions compatible with bikes that take less than 12 speed?
Hey Lawrence! Sram is pretty committed to their XD driver so if you can find a rear drive hub with the XD driver on it then you're in luck! But I wouldn't expect any transmissions with less than 12 speeds to be coming out any time soon! -Tor
Love the video! I am really excited, I call adjusting the derailleur more of an art, an art I truly DO NOT appreciate. Losing the adjustment is a game changer.
I like the no hanger but I don't like the absence of back compatibility with prior Eagle drivetrains. However within a year I'll likely have it and the latest Rockshok Pike Suspension.
There's a lot of MTB tech that excites when announced but quickly fades into obscurity. This looks like a product that will last, however. Personally, I'm still holding out for better, lighter gearbox transmissions.
Wondering, whether you expect that 3rd parties will be producing compatible chainrings in oval shape. Because if they would, then do you think those newly compatible could possibly be compatible with older X01/XX1 cranks ?
I really hope they do! When we talk about the "cons" in the review section of this video, I mention that I really want an oval option. I'd say let's wait about 60 days until expecting any 3rd party chainrings compatible with T-Type chains and various forms of crank mount interfaces. -Mike
Wolftooth has them now. Just ordered one for my x01 eagle carbon cranks. Going gx transmission, xo cassette, wolf tooth chainring, and gx T-type chain. I’ll upgrade the chain to shave weight once more colors come out.
Saw this on moi moi's bike and was waiting to find out what it was, Love the look of it but Holy, that's a lot of coin to drop 😢 hope one day it gets a bit cheaper.
I've watched four or five videos. They all say the same erroneous statement. Derailleur hangers were there to protect the derailleur. They are there to save the frame.
I've gotten Sram XO1 on all my new bikes since 2011, they have always shifted under load, lighter, easy enough to adjust, simpler is better for me, I'll keep my XO1 stuff on my sub 22 pound Epic EVO, weight is something that matters when your climbing up hill after hill in your late 70's, you can have all the Green Tricknology.. Happy Trails ;) !!!
I see this as very unlikely since most company’s would like to sell you a bike. Re tooling a old frame mold or jig would be expensive and most likely not profitable for them
When something is going to give, what do you choose? Frame or hanger since there is no derailleur anymore… And yes given enough force something is going to give…
Hey Mike is was wondering which bike you ride nowadays. I remember that you kept riding the old Spartan for a long time. Is the Stumpy Evo your new do everything machine?
Yo Ryan! I mentioned at 18:32 that I literally HAD to build the Stumpy to test out the new Transmission since my Spartan isn't a UDH frame, which is a con of this new stuff. However, I'm definitely still keeping the Spartan as I seriously just love this thing. But the Stumpy is also fast as hell and super fun, and I'm excited to just test more products in this bike since SO MANY of our customers have the Stumpy Evo. -Mike
Do y'all think this will work with a current gen chainring? I'm wondering if I could potentially put this on my RMAP, it does have the UDH option. Also, does the cassette still use an XD driver?
Thanks for the comment! You'll need the T-Type cranks which use a new 8 bolt chainring pattern so you'll need to get the new chainring as well. And as of right now they're only being sold as complete kits so you've got to buy all the parts at once! And yes! The cassette uses the same XD Driver as previous eagle cassettes! -Tor
All this innovative tech and I'm still stuck with a wired system 😂 only thing I'm kinda worried is how parts are *probably required to use new tools to remove meaning I will need another proprietary tool to remove something. I'm just guessing I'm not sure but I hope that's not the case.
The T-Type stuff will NOT work on any frame that is not UDH, because the frame itself MUST be the exact spec and tolerances as the UDH design for the derailleur to mount on it. -Mike
Amazing system. Too bad only the chain and controller are the only components backwards compatible with existing AXS. Owners of bike frames without UDH can only salivate. The alloy cranks look fire!
Not a penny! We seriously love these new Transmissions and don't have anything bad to say about them, well we wish they were free but that's about it! -Tor
The new DUB Wide cranks fit on both Boost AND SuperBoost, they just use different spacers to put the chainring in the right spot. It's pretty sweet that we don't have different cranks for different hub spacings, fewer standards is better! -Tor
@@TheLostCo Great video guys.... but these crank spacers are a bit confusing as they don't come with the new group sets and no one seems to be mentioning that you need them to install the cranks in any of the new videos. There also doesn't seem to be much info of how the new 55mm chain line will work with HP idler bikes like the Norco Range. Have you heard anything about that? Cheers
Which new feature do you like the most? And which feature do you dislike the most?
My favorite feature is the packaging. AXS component boxes fill up the bin really fast, and we can't recycle them where I live.
What happens to frame in case of a really hard hit on the new derailleur ? will the frame possibly be damaged ?
UDH only..
Urgh

Extremely impressive new design from SRAM which has solved many traditional issues all at once!
Not a single issue was solved. Or were you being sarcastic?
gotta love this system from sram, hopefully they can manage to make one as robust but pure mechanical, no batteries.
I don’t think this will be possible, because the adjustment and shifting under load probably depends heavily on the electronics.
I had a dream this happened last night… and I want it! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong but Shimano zee rear derailleur is the first one to do "full mount"
Well done. Tightest review. Great production quality.
Can we use the existing AXS controller if we have the original axs system saving 150-200 bucks?
The two bash guards is a good idea for those times you can only get a half crank between rocks on tech trails

If the derailleur hanger is gone then what is going to save the frame?

The bank account😅

What’s the special incompatibility with existing cranks? Seems if you have a 55mm chain line MTB Wide they would work properly.
It must be the chainring, but yeah, seems like there should be aftermarket chainrings that would allow use of an existing crankset.
