I was watching this post and then my neighbor came and we watched it together. He said this post really changed his life and it touched my heart. My village people are so grateful. Am proud to say cool post wow thanks for sharing...!!
It's definitely fun to watch this stuff evolve. This was a really big leap, and cool to see and get to experience. I went back to cables after running the last AXS system, but I see myself leaving this set-up on this particular bike for the foreseeable future, which is encouraging. It'll be cool to see how all of this trickles down in the coming years.
Your channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Great content! I've been sold on the Onyx silence for several years now. I'm hoping when Specialized refreshes my bike model (stumpy) that the Transmission and Flight Attendant will be offered. I will continue to use shimano brakes, so look for my takeoffs on Pinkbike.
Happy to hear you like channel! There's probably a good chance that package will be there when they refresh. I still haven't tried flight attendant, but I did just get the new Zeb Ult. and Super Deluxe Ult. in to try out.
Looks sick my man. I want to get the new SRAM drivetrain. I had code ultimates on my YT Capra pro race. That was something special sram did with YT in 2018. I bet the new ones are even better. Good job as always brother.🔥
Very interesting. It definitely sounds like it's solved a few of the issues I've had with the current wireless setup. Now I have to ask the question. Why the hell didn't SRAM send ME one!!! 😂
I had no idea you were in the Chattanooga area. I drive up there whenever possible to ride Raccoon Mnt from Huntsville, AL. High voltage and live wire 1 being my favorites. I’ve only done of couple other trials I think electric Ave and laurel point. Maybe I’ll see you out there sometime. Great work on the channel.
Raccoon is a total blast. That Electric-Laurel-High Voltage section is so good! You'll have to come check out Walden's once we get it open. It's absolutely incredible.
The energy that's going on the Derailleur in Case of a crash, where does it go? Frame? In case of Fullys maybe even the Shock? The force of the impact will go somewhere and not just evaporate magically... I'm really curious how this is going to work out...
To be honest, I doubt they will unless they determine the overall strength of the system ultimately isn't that reliant on the motor's retraction ability.
had my axs on my ebike for a few months now and the app said not to use multi shift on a ebike so turned all that on and shifts fine going 30mph under load and its not fell off yet
@@crazybigball82 the frame. But in double sheer there is really no leverage on that corner of the frame. The derailleur or axle would likely fail before the frame.
Man I love the look of transmission, just hope SRAM isn't baiting us into DRM MTB products with user serviceability and then remove it in the next gen.
Hi, great stuff ! Could you please advise, is that knurled washer sitting against the frame and eating into it or is it hard against the bushing that goes in first ? Thank you.
Can I still use my thru axle with a handle to easily remove/put-back-on the rear wheel, or do I now need a wrench to remove/put-back-on the rear wheel? And if I need a wrench to remove/put-back-on the rear wheel, must it be a torque wrench?
I definitely understand and appreciate the skepticism that's out there. I've given it a lot of thought since I've had this in hand, and I think time will prove in Sram's favor. There's a lot to read through in their documentation, but suffice to say they really dove in on testing and proofing things out.
I'm on a trek rail, My rear hub is going out. Probably going to try and go with an internally geared hub and a belt. Think sram is a bit out of my price range though, hoping the Shimano will work.
Wow! Looks amazing. One of those ‘why didn’t someone think of this before’ moments. Will this design feature across the range or is it just for the electronic wireless shifters?
@@SemiSendy I’m all for innovation and cool bike shit! However, the initial and ongoing costs to replace worn items will deter most people. Great vid 😎👍
wow the bike sounds silent! goes to show just how much noise we get from our mechanical/previous axs groups! this is the dream for me if it really is that quiet on the trails, as i got rid of my axs due to the horrid chain slap
Just can’t get over the price . I know you are getting a lot with that price and the fact it comes with cranks I don’t want. Just need a stinger clutch on my old axs and it would be golden
Would love to hear if this is backwards compatible to bikes without the UDH hanger in any way or if the manufacturer needs to come up with some kind of upgradekit for their frames.
@@SemiSendy I guess, that is good and bad. Bad for the bikes I own, good for my wallet 🤣 although I just found out my ebike does have the UDH. Oh noes.
My bike isnt UDH compatible, so I havent been able to check out the interface. If you were to put your bike in a stand and drop the rear wheel, how does the derailleur stay connected to the frame without an axle in?
The derailleur is mounted to the frame and not dependent on the axle to stay in place. The axel just bolts into it. You remove the axel and wheel just as normal, and the derailleur stays in the exact same tension setting.
Dang man. I'm going to have to go Sram. Does this mean when taking off the rear wheel the derailleur needs to be retorqued? Thanks for the video. Rich.
Ah, the derailleur is independently torqued to the frame, so not at all. It stays in the exact same tension point, and you remove the axel and wheels as normal. Pretty slick!
@Semi-Sendy oh snap. That part where you rode through that Boulder section of Raccoons Mtn pretty much sold me. That's so awesome it keeps it in place without noise. Very slick!
You can purchase it now from N+1 bikes, which I linked in the description and end of the video. They take great care of fans of the channel, so let them know I sent you!
The transmission will turn into a smartphone in the future, it will constantly annoy with its updates, now it is not, but in the future it will be exactly like that. The mechanics are excellent, electro poop.
Usual rush to market from Sram. It will require perfect dropout production from the factory which is not a given plus releasing and clamping the wheel will affect this too. It has a serrated contact with the frame which will more than likely be carbon, this will degrade over time. Tough it might be but where is the shock going, yep through the carbon triangle, pivot bearings, freehub bearings etc. Maybe Sram should concentrate on getting the basics right like making a decent affordable groupset that is not shit, i.e NX SX. Not convinced it is necessary or wise in the long-term plus the prices are ridiculous.
I definitely get what you're speculating here in regards to the dropout production, but the way the cassette and axel are interfacing with the derailleur and not with the frame itself, means that there's reasonable wiggle room on the frame manufacturing end of things. The axel is always going to thread into the derailleur the same way, and line up the cassette the same.

I’ve watched about 28 of these videos today. This is by far the best. Taking the whole rear triangle off explained this so well. Well done bro 🤙🏼
Heck yeah, comments like this make ripping things apart all worth while. Glad it helped!
Thanks, that was a great run through of it. We will be staying down there for Easter weekend and plan on riding Raccoon.

Is that a serrated grip washer they give you to put directly against the chain stay?!
Do you need to buy a new chainring for the new chain or will a normal eagle chainring work with the new chain?
im really not sure about not having a weak point in case you smash the derailleur.
