Jonny brought the soul to the band. Kurt brought the funk. Tilian brought the pop. All brought something different to the table. All refreshing. All great!
Suprise! I'm from Cuba might be my favorite dgd song of all time. Such a good album and it's super cool to get to watch someone experience them for the first time.
Your reaction to Open Your Eyes and Look North is insane, man, it brings me back to how I felt when I first heard it. It's my fave song on the album, hands down. Keep it up, dude 👌 thanks for these hype reactions
Lemon meringue tie and backwards pumpkin song are my favorites too! Loving your reactions man. DBM definitely shows their post hardcore roots, it's fantastic. They started bringing the funk when kurt travis came in for self titled and happiness. DBM2 has some funk and other elements too.
Just a heads up, they have a live album called Tree City Sessions that features Tilian doing Lemon Meringue Tie. It’s absolutely breathtaking if you wanna check it out
David Sedano it’s not a live audience, it’s live in studio, but it’s still crisp as fuck. Their sound is insanely good. They take 2 songs from each album all the way up to Instant Grat.
Considering how technical all of their songs are throughout their discography, here’s a fun fact: Jonny Craig (the clean vocalist on this album) has never taken a single vocal lesson. He just sounds like that naturally
David Sedano can’t wait till you hear their third album Happiness. It’s their last album with Kurt Travis on cleans before Jonny Craig came back for DBM2. It’s also the only album with Will Swan (guitarist) doing the screams cause Jon mess left the band for an album and came back.
Knowing it's helped save someone will definitely have me give it a little extra attention my dude, I relate all too well. I'm excited to check it out 😊
been watching your videos and i genuinely see myself in you in middle school first getting into them and freaking out over how they combined so many different genres and elements along with the amazing singers, i subbed and its great to have you be a part of the dgd family
You must at the very least check out one of Kurt albums. Happiness will give you all the expiramental/funky stuff and Death Star leans more emo like DBM
Coming from the other side, it took a minute to get use to Tillian after Jonny Craig, but I love them both, in my top 3 male vocalists for sure! Glad you've found them, so much talent in every single band member, I can't even pick a favorite.
@@DavidSedano I’m late but in case you didn’t know they did a reunion show with all 3 singers it was pretty dope. They each sing different parts of lemon meringue tie, one of my favorite performances ever
My three favorite songs by DGD are The Backwards Pumpkin Dance, Carl Barker, and Chocolate Jackalope. I highly suggest listening to all the albums before Tilian (I still love Tilian tho)
Great review brother, im excited for you to hear kurt's take on dgd, deathstar and happiness are my favorite records from dgd, ill be waiting for those reviews!
I found this album only a few months ago. Been listening to it every day since then. Close to perfection, in my opinion. DBM II is good but not quite up to this album for me. Different vibe and definitely different direction.
Their self titled album is amazing too. If you get the chance, Dwellings is a band I've been really into and they have a similar sound. "Lemonade" is probably my favorite song.
Kiesel Guitars made a video with Will Swan, their guitarist, doing a playthrough of Chucky vs. The Giant Tortoise. I highly recommend you check it out, he fuckin' shreds.
Great album also, if you want some high quality vocal lessons/exercises that you can do in your car I suggest buying the V60 vocal system by Saher Galt. 60 days of training and it’s well worth it. I believe it’s $60 right now too.
Instant Gratification and Downtown Battle Mountain 2 will be next 😊 artificial selection will be the last album I review cause I'm curious about the surprise everyone tells me about lol
@@DavidSedano I probably know what that suprise is and if it is then listen to the other ones first because its really cool when you know the other albums
Artificial Selection is great, but I think he should wait until after he’s listened to Self Titled, Happiness, and Instant Gratification. The ending of that album hits so much harder when you’ve heard all the albums that come before it.
So next week I'm planning on DBM2 and another more recent album by DGD. I'm also thinking of doing the 21 Pilots and Radiohead discographies following this because it's the same deal where I've heard singles but never full albums. (except Kid A which I feel everyone owns lol) but if there's some other stuff you know of that's coming out or want me to give a listen to please let me know 😊
Late to the party, but - you said that you preferred tilian's voice, and honestly that's completely understandable. While Jonny absolutely slays with his voice, this album is nowhere near Jonny's best work. For that, I'd advise you to check out Isles and Glaciers, that is by far where he had his peak
JC range is great and it’s so soulful, but he was always fucked up while recording the album so yeah he’s barely saying words and just harmonizing, Tilian is just more coherent. Also Jon finally figured out his scream a few albums later instead of this distorted raspy throat screams.
You must be high because you can literally understand every single word. You might be comparing this to some bad live performances he had way later when his addiction got the best of him. The recording on this album are crisp af.

Jonny brought the soul to the band.
Kurt brought the funk.
Tilian brought the pop.

This is THE comment right here ^^
I'm ready for Deathstar next, but man Happiness is gonna throw you for a loop. Such a funky PHC album. Fun fact: Will Swan does the uncleans on there.
Next week I'm back on my shit! And I'm stoked as hell cause everything already sounds funky as hell
They branched away from post-hardcore for the Self Titled album and Happiness. Kurt really brought the funk that DGD is known for now. Just you wait!
Suprise! I'm from Cuba might be my favorite dgd song of all time. Such a good album and it's super cool to get to watch someone experience them for the first time.
Thank you for this comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Open Your Eyes and Look North makes me emotional.😭 This album is excellent! I love these guys so much❤
emotional is an understatement lol
Lmao you brought back the Woo Counter
Gotta give em the ole razzle dazzle
Thanks for this. Dgd Happiness album with kurt travis is gold.
the crazy thing is that matt mingus was 17 when they recorded this album. i think the rest of the members were like 18-19.
Damn dude that's wild! Wtf at 19 I was learning blink 182 on drums lol
I legit feel like im vibin with a friend while listening to this band, my friends where im at dont really like this type of music. Nice videos!
That's all I'm aiming for and seriously thank you 😊
matt mingus the drummer is a legend
Legend / beast / machine / all the same when talking about him lol
My drumming style has been influenced by him so much. Who needs drum lessons, when you can just pull from their discography for inspiration?
Your reaction to Open Your Eyes and Look North is insane, man, it brings me back to how I felt when I first heard it. It's my fave song on the album, hands down. Keep it up, dude 👌 thanks for these hype reactions

Kurt has the best lyrics. They hit so hard emotionally, so emo in the best way.
Agreed, I love Kurt, his albums with DGD are possibly my favorite
It's hard to say which singer I like best. I love how each bring something different.
Hey bro thank you so much! I'm majorly excited for DBM2 and what it brings to the table. This band is just the textbook definition of diversity lol
