Edging was recorded separately whereas One More Time, More Than You Know and Dance With Me was recorded during the album studio session. Basically Edging was the first thing they recorded after getting back together. They sound rusty and still getting used to eachother. All the songs actually recorded during the album studio sessions sound substantially better. Like they found their soul again. As you said they're having fun.

I don't get into my feels very often, but goddammit if this album doesn't shove me into them every time I listen to it. TDWP has been one of my favorite bands since literally their first album, and it so refreshing to grow and mature with a band and have their sound stay fresh and not sound like they are phoning it in
