  • Loading two Kawasaki KLE500 motorbikes into the back of a VW Caravelle - selling on the project bike. This was using an Oxford Motorcycle Ramp. Took out all the seats from the VW Caravelle, this is a VW T5 Transporter derivative.
I had bought these two bikes with the view to learning a bit more about motorcycle maintenance. One of the first dual sports motorbikes and this model coming up to its 30th Anniversary. I changed my mind thinking it would be better to learn on the same engine as my current bike. So they had to go. I learnt that there is far more to restoration than simple maintenance.

Ha dads are all the same. 'Stay here while daddy does something he's never done before and if it goes very wrong, go get mommy for help.' Ha. :D

Hi there, you get points for showing me how to put even 2 bikes in a Caravell. Never seen anyone doing that. I take it you removed the windshield. You loose some points on safety with your grandchild. Adores you obviously, Great relation. Again thx and good luck sir.

Yes removed the screens. It was a tight squeeze and I was afraid that I would drop one of them but my luck held out. Taking them out again was much less of a problem. The key thing is to secure the ramp well and have a well positioned secure step.

Hi Brian - did you remove the rear bench on your own? I want a Caravelle SWB to do exactly this, but everyone says the rear bench is hard/heavy to get out... TIA DC

I did remove it on my own. It is very heavy and I would recommend two people. I used two small trollies to move it out the van onto one large trolly. I have not put it back in, as I now have 4 chairs in the back to make it easier to modify regularly. I do not think I could get the bench back in on my own.

Hi, how did you secure the bikes? Did you utilize the Multivan rails?

I used the Multivan rails with loop fixings bought on eBay. These have a T end that goes in the rail and a loop. Rachet straps attached to the loop to secure the bikes. Very solid.

But it does look like a Multivan tbh. Thanks for the video!

It is a Multivan, here in the UK branded as a Caravelle as I guess VW thought that they would not sell many to UK customers calling it a van. In Germany van being a borrowed English word and therefore cool for them.

Lovely to see little lead helping his Grandad. Can ask how you secured them? Are there any convenient tie down points?

There are built in tie down points but for this job I bought loops that fit into the rails.
