  • I bought a used VFR1200F a couple of weeks ago and got it home and into the garage before the snow started. First job was to check over the front brake as it was weak, spongy and the lever was pulling all the way back to the handlebar.

Great video. Thanks. A rear brake video would be great

Nice one Brian... I must say they were much much worse than mine.
I initially wasn't totally impressed with the brakes, (hence my wow brake video) seems a modern trend to keep initial bite soft, but when haul on them yea brilliant. Obviously the state yours were in, they must have felt awful.

I am looking forward to testing them out when the weather turns for the better.

I never bother replacing the bolts. Just Honda being super conservative. The bike has its issue but the brakes (on mine at least) are fantastic.

That is good to know. The bolts looked fine and I think I will only replace them when new pads are needed. All new at that point. Seems excessive to replace every time you remove the calipers. Breaks have improved a lot so those pistons must have been sticking. Not hard to spot the problem seeing how much crud was in them.

I’ve never replaced caliper bolts. Yours were way too tight should be 45nm.

Thanks for that, the calipers had not been well maintained by previous owners.
