JoJolion is one of the best parts and possibly my favorite.
I once said that Tooru's ability, a character obsessed with memories and legacies, was essential to manipulate a chain of events that starts in the past and then come to affect the present.
If you think it this way, is very fitting for Josuke, the man with no past, to have an ability that lets him ignore the past itself (go beyond). After all, I think Joduke's personal story is about living the present, not letting the past define who you are.
It almost feels as if Tooru and Joduke's characters have to be taken and considered as one. That's when they start to make a lot of sense.

    • @Necokeniii

I really like this take and it even ties into jobin saying everyone wants to get to "0", if we are trying our best to reach some form of perfection or "normal", we will be chasing something that is impossible to reach. Josuke had to live with no tie to this world and find his own meaning to life, I really like how the story ended for josuke.

    • @SoulBro12
      @SoulBro12 2 года назад +43

What I like about the story is that Josuke was already welcomed as a member of the Higashikata once he defeated Damo, before that fight, Josuke was treated like an outcast by his family even in the Damo fight, Norisuke outed Josuke out to Damo because of the lesser status he had but after that fight, Norisuke was willing to help Josuke and treated him like his son
however the story still continues past Damo and this is what I really love about JoJolion, Josuke still feels like an outcast and has the need to pursue his identity, not realizing his identity has already been set in place and that idea took form in The Wonder of U arc, Josuke realizing pursuing is useless and after some talk with Holly decided to settle down which allowed him to beat WoU, he embraced who he was now which allowed him to tap into the potential of Go Beyond, basically coming in terms with his pasts

Kaato's and Jobin's actions are tied to how much they love their family and while they are opposing both Norisuke's and Josuke's ideas, in the end they're still family

In case people are curious why some depictions of the forbidden fruit was a fig; in olden times, any sort of fruit that grew on trees was called an apple. This is best shown in “pomme de Terre” - the French word for potato meaning “apple of the earth”
The reason why figs, however, is because not only was it one of the native fruit where the garden is supposedly located, but also because they dressed themselves in fig leaves. Thus it makes sense for the fruit to come from the same tree

Something I find really interesting is that in the universe of parts 1-6, all of the main antagonist's stand powers are time related. Stop time, Rewind time, Skip time, Speed up time. Then starting with the new universe in part 7 and 8, there seems to be a new trend of main antagonists who's stand powers are or end up being related to this "flow" concept. D4C: Love Train focusing on positive flow, and Endless Calamity focusing on negative flow.
I wonder if Part 9 will continue this trend, or if something different will happen?

@@someguywithadog3239 "If you attack the user you will die" is literally just Wonder of U's Endless Calamity. I doubt Araki would use the same exact ability again.
Endless Calamity works based on your intentions. If you intend on following the stand or it's user, it will cause things to happen to impede your progress. If you are outright making yourself an enemy, it will cause things to happen to harm you. If you have intent to kill, then in turn it will cause things to happen that prove fatal.
It's basically a power over coincidences. It attracts more and more negative flow towards those with more and more dire intentions towards it. Basically, increasingly bad luck. The only way to beat it is to use an ability that exists outside of the natural flow of events entirely.

This video gives me a new perspective on the nature of fate, curses, and Calamity. Curses are a force of exchange; something is always given and something is always taken (sometimes equivalent, often not). By this definition, the Locacaca would be considered a curse, but as Lucy said a curse may be considered a blessing, indicating their status as a force on the border of positive and negative. Fate doesn't exchange, it often takes only in response to people attempting to defy it (every Jojo villain, basically) and is generally about giving. Calamity is simply a taking force, with Love Train granting protection from that taking via redirection.

Really interresting video, with lot of deep topic.
I think also Jojolion is the symbolism of the Natural disaster of 2011. The title is referring to bless, but the first scene that we see is the destruction made by this disaster.
In the last volume, Araki say that Calamity is one of the biggest power in the World. It is more important when know that the familly house of Araki was destroyed during the eartquake of 2011. This was reported by a local newspapper Kohaku Shimpo. This event had a big influence on Araki work, like we can see in the destruction of Higashikata's house.
Finally, we in Jojolion Calamity and bless are the two faces of the flow. This is represented with the equivalent echange, the curse of milagro or Higashikata curse.
For me of the message of Jojolion is that calamity are here, imprectible, terrible... We need to live with.... But when he is coming ... We need to go beyond, and start a New begining. This is the real bless of a Calamity...

JoJolion is my favorite part and I do agree with the problems it has (however my personal gripes comes from The Blue Hawaii arc, while introducing important concepts, you can easily separate the concepts to other arcs like the idea of holy lands and the idea of rock creatures that aren't rock human otherwise the arc feels pretty underwhelming in the grand scheme of things and the whole rock hair clip animal was just an excuse for Yasuho to not be in the Ozon Baby fight because it would be ez mode for the JoGang, kind of bothered me )

@@ProwerAdmirer i like subversivess a lot, JoJo has made me appreciate it even more, looking back, Tooru is not the big villain that must be defeated in order for the story to end.
He represents something that was there the entire time, the struggle, calamity, he *isn't* the thing that was there the entire time, and he wasn't the one meant to be defeated in order for it to end, he is however the physical manifestation of the end of Josukes Journey, much like everything in part 8, Tooru represents a part of your past that keeps you from freeing yourself, like the stories of both of the individuals who made you (Josuke pressuring himself to be Kira or Josefumi, and or following their stories before noticing he needed to choose the cake on his own) much like this example Tooru was always there, he is but a physical manifestation of the final step, defeating him doesn't mean defeating *him* it means breaking the curse or breaking free from your past that was holding you back on your own choices this entire time, having a build up to Tooru wouldn't fit his whole deal, as we would see him as the big bad guy that must be defeated at the end, instead of the real face behind your struggle this entire, your pursuit of following your own past to try and be like they were only brought you calamity, and you must go beyond than pursuing it to break free from it.

    Jojo
To be clear, -lion isn't a suffix. Evangelion comes from ancient Greek, and the word's roots are eu-, prefix for good/true, and angelos, meaning "messengers". Evangelion means "good news" which eventually became "Gospel".
Araki, in a roundabout way, got to that original meaning. I think it's best to understand the name Jojolion as a portmanteau meaning "The Gospel of Jojo" which really captures what this part is about. It's a story of breaking a curse, mirroring an interpretation of the Gospels. Like the Gospels, it's a story about a Saint (arguably one of the first Jojos 😉). That may be the best way to interpret the title.

Me too, honestly I thought Jojolion had so much going for it like it’s interesting premise, my personal favorite art design in the whole series, and some really interesting character but is structured so terribly: there is no meaningful down time. In every other part there’s at least a point where the characters mess around for just a few moments. Like in all of part 4 or like the crew going out to eat in part 5 or like the entire arc between annasui and Jolyene in part 6. There isn’t really any moments in this story that makes me ask why the characters care about each other besides the very beginning, josuke singing about how much he likes French fries to yasuho, or the crew eating that strawberry thing in Mamezuku’s house. Even in part 3 we’d see hilarious moments of the characters drinking ice tea together or doing funny handshakes or just talking to each other about things unrelated to the plot. I think you get the idea at this point though.

Just as dolomite said in chapter 63, Jobin is just a "gofer", a literal errand boy for the organization. Poor tom even instructed him to do something for him to get the branch. The relationship between Jobin and the organization is just borderline business associates. Yotsuyu promised to jobin that they'd help him have a part of their fruit cartel as long as he'd help them smuggle fruits outside the country since Jobin is the second highest ranking member in the higashikata fruit parlor. Jobin saw this as an opportunity to break the curse and make their family business even more succesful than ever, so he took the deal. It's a "I scratch your back you scratch mine" type of deal.

Do you think you could make a video explaining Tooru? I think it's accepted by this point he is the part 8 villain, but most people think he was introduced too late for it
Maybe there was parts on the story previously foreshadowing him? He kinda resembles diavolo in the sense the main cast purpues him, he was the head of an operation (in tooru's case, the hospital and the rock humans) and his true identity isn't revealed until later

I really just want to know if the final equivalent exchange with tsurugi and tooru broke the higashikata course for ever or only for tsurugi's generation, because if it did the first then that means kato and jobin actions at least brough something positive for the family despite putting them in danger all the time, but if it didn't then their actions look even more stupid.
