*** don’t know if anybody else commented on this, but I checked my key fob and everything was ok, then I realized I should check the other fob, which I had NEVER used. It turns out I had it in a drawer and something heavy was in it and, which had recently been put in the drawer. It had knocked off 4 of the little tabs. Opened it up , cleaned and glued. And all is well. So don’t forget about your other key fob!!! Thank god for this post !!
Seriously the most valuable RUclips video I have seen in a long time! Thank you for the time you spent troubleshooting and documenting! We need more fixers rather than replacers!
You saved us! On a girls' weekend to Cranfest and van door kept randomly opening. Miraculously, bought super glue today by coincidence at the tool man tent. FIXED!!! Thank you!!!!
This worked! My 80-year-old neighbor's grandson told me this was happening to her Dodge Minivan. I got curious and looked on the internet for possible issues. I found this video, went over to her house and opened her fob, and sure enough, one of the metal contacts was loose. She had an appointment at the dealership the next day, but it's all good now. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for posting this! This was the problem on our 2010 T&C. I followed your instructions and now the problem is gone! Very grateful for not having to deal with the dealer or repair shops! Thanks for sharing! You saved us hundreds of dollars! :]
Thank you for making this video. I had the exact same problem with the doors opening. Also, the horn would sound off for no reason. It was a big problem and the dealer wanted me to leave the van there so they could see it happen. So I would have paid the dealer to find the problem and then they would have charged me $200.00 for the key fob and $80.00 for programming. Plus I would need to replace both fobs. I did what you said and found three of the little metal discs had come loose and were floating around in there. I glued them back and cleaned the contacts and everything works like a charm. No more mysterious door openings. If I ever meet you I will buy you a beer.
Finally thank you so much for sharing this video so helpful! My neighbor has a 2012 caravan and at first I thought he was purposely leaving the door open overnight and due to the fact that we have a lot of people stealing in our neighborhood I kept going to his door to let him know that the door was left open and one day I asked him why he kept doing that and he said it wasn’t him. now I can let him know how to fix it 🤗
Just bought a 2012 Dodge Challenger RT. When I got it home today, I was trying out the remote start and nothing was happening. I did notice that there was no clicking noise when you pressed down on the button. I opened up the fob and found just like you that the one circle piece was no longer glued down. Scotch tape did the trick. Thanks!
Thanks so much! Thought changing the battery fixed my problem, but not so. Then, instead of one door, both side doors would open, and the auto start failed to work. When I found and followed your video, I discovered 4 loose and one lost or missing discs. I followed your lead of cleaning and gluing, and things are working properly. Oh, the lost disc, well I smashed a spent/use primer from a cartridge and glued in place all systems working, thanks to you! If I find the smashed primer becomes a problem, i'll live without it, but as of right now, i'm loving your help!
I had narrowed my problem down to the same thing, but I just thought it had worn out. Mine didn't randomly open the door (though it seemed as though it did), but it took the slightest of touches, twice, to make it activate. More than once I parked my car and came back to find the driver side sliding door open. I found your video and tried it and saved myself $30 on buying a new fob. I even had it in my Amazon cart ready to go, but just hadn't actually pulled the trigger. Now I can just pull that item out of my cart! Thanks!
I've been keeping my key fob in a metal water bottle to keep it from triggering the door every few minutes in hopes of finding an easy and inexpensive solution. I think this is going to do it. The metal water bottle worked really well in the meantime!
Thank you, this will help for tonight so I can work on the fix tomorrow. I thought I would not be able to sleep tonight, now maybe I can thanks to you and this video
@@2OctoberBreeze this video was 100% the solution for me as well. It's an easy fix, but it's likely to reoccur. Almost all of the little contacts have fallen off at least once over the years. Terrible design. Definitely better than buying a new fob for $200!
Disaster Zone you rock! 🤘🏼😎 I found your video at the top of the list when searching for “ Dodge Grand Caravan liftgate randomly opening and closing”, started watching and as soon as you mentioned the key fob, I started taking both of mine apart and sure enough, the second one had a loose rubber + metal suction cup that had become detached from it’s place inside my key fob, and was shorting out the two metal contacts on the circuit board, causing my lift gate to open and close, over and over, until I took it apart, found the problem and fixed it with super glue, just like you did! If you live in St. Louis, let me take you out for a beer my friend! I wish I could give this video an additional 10,000 likes!
YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! ! I was just about to purchase a new key bc my sliding right door kept opening and my unlock button didn't work anymore. we just bought the car from the dealeship ( used) less than 2 mos ago & they only gave us this one key fob. I just tried it out and saw to sensors that were not attached and followed your instructions and it worked!. my husband was asleep, and when I told him to come outside to look he was in total shock!!! hahaha I'm so happy you posted this video thank you thank you thank you! !!!
Great video!!! Just to add... You can use super glue but eventually it will fall off again. Its a good quick fix for the moment but if you can get you hands on some silicone sealant it is more plyable and will last for more clicks than the super glue. Thanks for sharing this info it looks like many people have been saved from much aggrevation!
Thank you! Other than a little dirt, I also had one of the little suction cups loose from the contact! Fixed my 2010 VW Routan key fob. Thanks so much for the excellent instructions!
Great find. I actually had to reattach all the contact circles. Follow these instructions and a very annoying issue was fixed on my 2012 Town and Country. Thank you.
This totally worked! Thank you!!! We just got the van, and when we went to go eat, a server was asking around who owned this van with the door open. What!!!!! Then it kept happening and here's your video! I did the cleaning, glued back on, not one but FOUR disks and the van doesn't seem possessed now haha THANK YOU
OMG!!! i have 3 kids n my infants seat is on the side tht the door kept opening. Im in wisconsin and its been raining and snowing and my door was randomly opening all the time! None of my buttons were working. the suctions were off on all thm. i glued thm n put it together n they ALL work!!!!! Thank u so much for posting this video! u saved this mom from a head ache!!!!!! thank u thank u!!!!!
1:01 The Best! Ordered a 2-pack through Amazon. Used the existing motherboard with the “new” cases. Took me 5 minutes and everything is working like new! THANKS!!!!
Mon dog's car is a Grand Caravan 2010, I have sent the seats below , therefore I have nothing in the car, other than poop bags and few items. The door lock remotes( both of them) were having problems with the door locks and the front windows, they unlock on their own and the windows open half way, thanks to your video I got both removes fixed, Great job on this video.
Thank you so much for this! My key fob has been going bizerk for the past few months, barely working and progressively getting worse. I really thought my car was possessed. Doors, windows & trunk opening randomly. I was ready to have an exorcism. In a moment of clarity I connected the two and thankfully saw your video! When I opened up the fob, all of the circles were off! Spent 15 min on key fob surgery and it’s now in perfect working order! You saved me a bunch of $$$ and most importantly my sanity! 2011 Dodge GrandCaravan
I just purchased 2 fobs and had them programmed. I just read something where the door issue can happen when the battery needs replaced. Since my fobs are new, I don't think this is the issue ... and they shouldn't be broken either. I might check both and, if one is broken, leave the battery out of it. Dealer price is $225.00 per fob so the fobs shouldn't be broken on arrival! Thanks so much for this video!
What a guy! This also fixes the rear tailgate that opens and closes on it's own. Thanks for finding a problem that could cost owners big bucks, including me!
Good to know this works on 2012s too. This has been driving me nuts for months! It gets especially frustrating when the door opens and it's pouring rain outside or we're having a snowstorm
Very helpful, all I have to do is think about touching my key fob and the passengers side door opens. Figured I would use my spare fob, which does not work at all. Found your video while trying to figure out how to change the battery, which you showed incidentally when opening the fob. Now I can fix both of them. Thanks!
Dodge Durango, same problem. Both my Key fobs had the exact same problem, I was in awe when I opened them up and saw the little disc stuck to the circuit board. You Tube rocks.
THIS WORKED! I had all the metal disks stuck to the circuit board. I cleaned them, as you said, w rubbing alcohol, then I tossed all off the metal disks except for the LOCK/UNLOCK. Super-Glue to the rescue!
That's it!! You were absolutely right! I thought I was going to have to put my van up for sale thinking it was an expensive fix. Thank you so much! You saved me a lot of money!
Your my guy! My wifes 2011 GC had the back hatch opening at random all over town. Had to find a solution and you sir saved me money and time! THANK YOU!
Seems to have worked! We have a 2011 GC without the auto trunk lift (manual only). The driver side sliding door would open, hit the stop, then close automatically. The kids had to rush out the door before it closed on them! My dad always said, when fixing something, "Start with simple and cheap first." True that. Thanks so much for posting this video.
Thank you so much for sharing your fix!!! I've been having the same problem and was going to spend $$ programming a new key fob. What a simple fix! deeply grateful to you!
super hopeful this is the fix for my town and country...looks like my little contact was loose too, so i just tried the same fix! so glad you found it~! thank you sir!
I am so glad I found your video. I’m having the same problem and it turns out a couple of the sensors are loose. Wasn’t sure I could use super glue, but glad to know I can!
Thank you I will try this today , we are having the same problem, and yesterday had a heavy down pour type storm here. It will take days to dry the van out. I hope I have the same problem.
It's great to see this fix worked for many of you, but didn't work for me. My door continued to open and close by itself, even with the battery removed from my key fob... so I'm assuming it has nothing to do with my keyfob 🤷🏻♂️ I ended up just removing the fuse for the sliding doors for now.
Yeepee...it worked. I did what you said I went to the Dollar Tree and for a dolar I got four tiny tubes of crazy glue. I cleaned everything with a Q-tip and alcohol and I even got new batteries. It worked. I can't thank you enough you saved me a lot of money.
Thank you so much. I had already decided the key fob must be the culprit, specifically the button that opened the one sliding door. I's so excitedtotry your fix!
Glad it helped. I figured it was information too good to keep to myself. After another 6 months or so that "repair" failed again so I ended up buying new key fobs on eBay and swapping out the electronics inside.
I'm wondering if anyone has this issue and it could have been an issue without the key. I was placing my keys in the refrigerator to block the signal and when I went to double check if everything was still closed I watched the door open so that made me believe it wasn't the key fob. I'm still going to try this to cut back on the occurrences but wondering if it could be another issue where the keys aren't the issue.
Can anyone help with what to do my 2017 grand caravan gt is randomly opening the rear hatch and drivers side year door... the video wont load for me to watch 🤬
Amazing! Thank you! I thought I was gonna have to kick her to the curb! And I changed my battery while I was in there :) no need for any expensive unnecessary repair bills.

Thank you SOOOO much!! I just did this for our VW 2012 Routan and it worked like a charm!!! Thanks a million!!!
Thank you i thought it was going to be a major issue, turns out like your video was just lots of dirt on the remote.
Thank you so much. I had already decided the key fob must be the culprit, specifically the button that opened the one sliding door. I's so excitedtotry your fix!
Thank you sooo much! This has been driving me insane. Going to try your fix this weekend!
I just tried it too! Waiting for it to dry. This was so annoying
You are my hero thank you it worked perfectly. I pray the Lord bless you in every area of your life.
Thaaaaaank you!! I keep coming out of the store to find my doors wide open, even though I locked it and didn’t bump the open bottom.
Thank You!! Thank You!! What a quick fix. I was going crazy checking my car constantly to make sure the door did open.
Thank you, you may have saved my life with this video.
Awesome! Thanks so much for posting this. Fixed my 2013 Grand Caravan problems. Much cheaper than a new FOB.
I don’t have this problem, but my driver door will automatically unlock itself a minutes or so after locking it. Wonder if this will fix it?
Just fixed my 2012 VW Routan using this solution. Thank you.
Thanks for the super simple fix! Just did it and no more issues!!
I'm having this problem too!!! Thanks so much for the video!
Thank you very much, that is exactly what was wrong with mine, I took it apart and almost everyone of the little contacts were off.
Thank you so much! I have a door going this to me right now and wondered if the button had broken inside the fob somehow (feels like it).
Thanks so much! I thought I was going crazy 😂 Found my door open twice!
You're amazing! Thank you!!!! Opened up my husband's key fob and just like you said the button was dislodged.
thanks, I was thinking this had to do with the remote when I would lightly brush the key fob and it would open the door, Easy fix for sure.
Seems to have stopped the problem but now that button doesn’t work at all.
I have this very same problem!!! I’m so over the Dodge vehicle 😢
Thanks for making this. Contacts were broke in my fob as well.
You just fixed my $1500 electrical problem for $3 in glue.
THIS WAS SO HELpful! was exactly what happened with ours too we all laughed when we took it apart and that little disc was just off center floating.
Absolutely perfect. Thank you, it saved us a lot of headaches!
Thank you!! You just saved me $300
Thank you for this video! I just used this on my Volkswagen Routan and it works perfectly now! 🙏🏽😃
I did not know there wss a key inside there. Thanks for the video
That solved my problem as well! I had two contacts that had come off inside my bob.
Glad it helped. I figured it was information too good to keep to myself. After another 6 months or so that "repair" failed again so I ended up buying new key fobs on eBay and swapping out the electronics inside.
Stephen Felker all of my contacts came off except for the one panic button. Thank you for the help
THANK YOU!!! This was definitely my problem. When I opened my key one circle was on top of another (the one that operates the door that kept opening.
GOT TO TRY THIS ,MINE IS DOING THE SAME THING !! THANK YOU !!!!!!
Omg thank you so much!
thank you thank you thank you. that did the trick.
Thank you so much for this video! You are a life saver!
You my friend are a frickin genius....ty ty ty....as I sit in publix taking apart my key..yeeeeesssss!!!!!!!
You solved my problem! Thanks for producing this video.
It worked perfectly! Thanks for the video.
Found this video because my VW Routan had the same issue, the metal disc was loose. superglued them all back and PRESTO!
Omg!!! Life changer!!! Thank you!!!
thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you so much!! This worked for us.
I was in a whole different state, it killed my battery. The fob is not my problem
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Very much appreciate it!!
Thank you so much for this video!
Going to try this on my 2010. I have a key fob acting up anyway.
i hope it helps me. thank you
Can anyone help with what to do my 2017 grand caravan gt is randomly opening the rear hatch and drivers side year door... the video wont load for me to watch 🤬
Thank you!
Amazing! Thank you! I thought I was gonna have to kick her to the curb! And I changed my battery while I was in there :) no need for any expensive unnecessary repair bills.
YES!! 💯 FIXED! THANKS
I was just leaving the key fob in the car so it wasn't touched - and take the little key inside with me. Door does not open, but fixed it now!
That’s an awesome idea thanks, I never thought of taking the key out!🎉❤
By the way, I used plumbing glue, that's what they used originally.
A million thanks!!!
Thanks so much!
