Caravan power sliding door Repair EASY

- In this video I'm showing you the process that's needed to repair a power sliding
door on a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. This repair covers quite a few years such as 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006, it also covers quite a few different models of minivans such as the Town and Country and the standard caravan. This repair is for when you have symptoms of the door on the side of the van passenger door that is only opening a few inches when you push your key fob to open the door or when you push the designated button on the overhead console inside the van. Although your power motor for the door may have quit working it's more likely that the wiring going to the motor under the running board for the rear passengers has broken and the wiring needs repaired. This is an easy simple repair and can be done with very limited tools and experience I will try to show you step by step what's needed so you can get your power sliding door to work the way it use to.
Thanks for watching! Наука
Just used this information and fixed my entirely not working passanger slider. Thank you!!! It took literally 5 mins to diagnose and fix!!
👍😆
I had the exact same problem with my '05 Grand Caravan, I did exactly what you said. My green wire was broken inside the insulation but was easy to spot.
I soldered the wire and wrapped with electrical tape. Reassembled and works like a charm.
Thanks for the video and you saved me some $. Thanks!
9 year old video, still teaching the public. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Saving us tons of $
I just bought an '05 Caravan for my wife and i was able to get several hundred dollars off the asking price because the power doors didn't work. I just fixed them for free! Thank you!
Man, you rock! I've been without a power slider for almost two years, thinking it was the motor being burnt out. Then when the other one didn't work, I figured $400 for parts and self repair. I saw your video and had both fixed within an hour. Great video, great instructions. The wife is thrilled and I'm gettin' lucky tonight! ;-)
Awesome, glad it helped! On your van and in the bedroom.

Haha
This is an extremely well done repair video. The content, length, audio and video are right on the mark. Thanks!
Video described the situation exactly. I found the break almost immediately, and now the door works fine. The Internet needs more videos like this; concise and accurate.
My siding doors on my 2005 Caravan haven't worked in years.
With the help of your video both doors are now working like brand new!
Thank you for posting this video Fb9.
That's great!
Just a ditto on several of the above comments, YOU ROCK !!!! thank you so much, 2 years without both side doors and had given up all hope of solution, no way I was spending big bucks at the Dodge dealer @ 187,000 miles................... don't hardly trust them...... I'll look to you for other solutions in the future as the best vehicle I've ever owned goes for 200k ! Thanks again, good pace and explanation of steps !
Thanks so much for posting this video! I repaired mine today and the break in the wire was almost exactly as you showed. You saved me a bunch of money on this repair and I really appreciate it!
I took my van to the dealer shop they told me that the motor was bad and to replace it would cost 400 dls...
I was looking in you tube to see if I can find a video how to fix it and I found your video ..
thank you so much my husband fixed it following your instructions..
thank youuuuu!!!
Amazing what dealers get away with
Wow! your video on this power sliding door fix was the best ever. For about a year I have been looking at videos every so often to "do it myself". I am a 62 year old woman on my own. SO once I found your video I went out and bought a butt thingamajig and some electrical wire. I put a patio chair next to my passenger side door and after refreshing my memory by watching your video a few times I just jumped in and fixed it! One wire was severed. I tried the but clamp first but like you mentioned, it prevented the door from closing - so I was prepared because you addressed this. So I took it off and just wound the wires around each other and wrapped the tape around as tight as I could. I used to have a sauldering gun - but no more. So viola! It works. THANK YOU. Oh, also once I touched the 2 wire ends together I heard the slight sound of a beeping so I knew right away it was going to work.
Thanks so much! I was so annoyed when my door stopped working, I was expecting a very expensive trip to the dealer. Watch the video, 10 minutes later I had the problem fixed. Awesome :)
You are the MAN!!!! I was about to buy a new motor and thought... mehhhhhhh... I better check youtube. Mine does exactly the same thing. I'll be digging into it this weekend. Thanks so much for posting this!
Excellent explanation. Concise, clear, and exactly what I needed to fix the door! My wife thinks I'm amazing...but it's really just you man.
Hi. this exact problem has been going on for about 3 mos. with my ' 05 grand caravan. looked at the wiring, & sure enough, there it was! A little solder, a little electrical tape and i was good to go. thank u!
good!!
Been watching videos about this repair for the last hour -- and yours is by far the most user-friendly. I'm a weekend mechanic, and don't take on too much. But with your instruction provided her, and fantastic camera work -- this is very feasible. Thank you for the video.
Thanks You Very much!! I love to here when my videos can help.. !!
in fact, just took me thirty minutes to do this. never worked on electrical before. thank you so much, the red/white wire was 99%severed in the exact same spot as the video. thank you so much!
Finally a "mechanic's" video with substance and clarity. Nice to watch a video without all the shaking and random out of scene shots. Thanks. Need howto remove front swing doors interior panels so can fix untracked power windows.
You are awesome! I just watched your video and fixed the door to the van. My wife couldn’t believe it. Thank you.
Thank you. You were right on with the fix. One wire was split completely close to the clip and pin connector for the track. God bless. Easy fix cost me nothing but some grease on my fingers. But remember to unhook battery the wires are live!
Honestly I watched your video after looking at another persons video THANK YOU! You were very upbeat and that kept me interested in the video and helps me!!! Thank you again!
👍😊
Thankyou once again just fixed mine...it looked like it had been fixed before very poorly, so I found a couple of wires that were torn in different places...rewired them patched them taped tightly and it's good to go...😊
Holy easy as hell batman, that was easy, thanks for the video, you were 100% right
Great instructions and tips! Found the problem just as described and whole repair was done in 20 minutes. After 1 1/2 years of shutting door manually, finally was inspired to do something about it and got it done easily with your help. Thanks
OMG! Same van, same break in the wire in the same spot. 'm all in with MOPAR, but without fellas like you I'd be broke!
Anyway, thank you so much!
Cheers
Someone completely cut all of the wires and removed the track from our 2006 caravan. I think I'm going to to have a blast fixing this hack job.
Thanks for you video!
I enjoyed your straight forward video as my issue was exactly as yours, a clean break in the same spot. Thank you. I found it interesting that this repair also solved the "power window in the sliding door doesn't work" complaint. So, if your power door and power window aren't working, this would be a great place to look. My daughter was quoted a worst case scenario of $1,600.00 to repair these two issues and I was able to do it for free in about 20 minutes.
Bill Russell glad it helped! 👍
THANK U! I saw this video a year or two ago and never got around to it. 5 kids and a heavy manual sliding door has been so hard for my kids to close and open. Sure enough when I opened those caps there were broken wires on both sides. My hubby thought I was crazy for trying to fix it myself but it was SO EASY! My life just got a million times easier. Now how to figure out why my floors in the front are getting soaked after the rain.
Okay, this video has got me investigating the wires, thanks for making a well illustrated video. I can use a lot more help with my GCV SXT.
Good luck..
Awesome!!! Thank you very much... I have been waching so many videos on RUclips with NO help AT ALL... Yours was perfect and easy to have my side door back on... Thanks again !!!
This was a quick and easy way to check the wiring. I saw another video where the guy removed and the trim pieces to check the wires. Now I am willing to check it our using your method. Thank you.
Excellent video. That was (WAS) the problem on my wife's van door, and thanks to you for taking the time to put together this video, I was able to save a lot of time (I was thinking I would have to take the inside door panel off) and/or a lot of money at the auto-repair shop.
I don't comment on RUclips much (ever?), but I had to thank you for your clear and concise video. Thank you! It inspired me to fix my van door after many years of manual operation. So here's another win for you! Hip-hip-hooray!
👍😊
You are wonderful. I fixed my sister's door within 15 minutes. I hope you have a great day. Thanks again.....Ed
👍😁
Awesome, thanks muchly my dude. I just scored a 2005 SXT at 130k mi for $400 from a coworker. Only problems are no AC, right pass door won't power open/close, and pass locks won't power lock. Oh, and the brakes are shot. Easy fixes. Beautiful car. Gonna squeeze as many miles out of that $400 as I can, hahah
😊

Like your vids, very straight and easy to understand.

I am so glad I found your video. I knew that was the issue, but I couldn't figure how to take the cord protector off in a non distructive way. Now I can show my wife. " See hon? not that much to do"
👍😊
Regards to your step-mother and a great video I can use on my 2001 Caravan. That's again from The Wandering Israelite on You Tube

I would also lubricate the latches and moving parts as long as its opened up, keep it working smoothly.
romansten9 👍☺️
Wow thankyou so much my door same side is doing the same thing lately... ill have to check mine out soon when i have time...but thankyou again... 😊
Awesome! Thank you, I will fix mine this weekend!!! Now, on to the locks...
😁
The locks are the actuator usually
A fix like that will be temorary until you replace all of the wire that is in the area where it flex's. So if you make a repair inside the chain-like conduit, it stiffens the wire in the area where it will be required to flex near 180 degrees, and it will surely break again. replace the wire with the same gauge well outside of the conduit range will ensure that wire lives another lifetime. Great video though! You were clear and concise. Well done!
Thank you for the excellent video and easy to see, in focus viewing of the procedure!! Honestly after hearing the comments about this repair, I'm thinking replacing the wire with a more flexible wire might be a longer lasting solution, just splice it at the ends where there is no bending.
👍😁
Thanks! Excellent video!
Awesome video! Perfectly informative
Thank you very much, excellent video
Thanks so much for this ! I'm having the exact same problem .
you are welcome!!
Thanks a lot for posting this repair. I had the same problem with my 2007 Chrysler T&C and followed the procedure and worked like a charm, I actually found a wire that was broken in 3 different points, I guess only one of them was bad enough to loose connectivity when the cable harness bent at that specific point. That might also explain why mine opened a little bit more than the one Foxboss9 shows in the video.
Awesome, you're welcome.
Another “thank you” here! I’m definitely subscribing!! Amazing help.
👍😁
Nicely done.
Foxboss9 My friend Cara Asselin has a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT edition!
excellent video mate, mine was doing the exact same thing... two split wires... easy quick fix.... good as new now! :)
Gino Zammito awesome! 👍😁

Top guy. Sorted my problem. Thanks for sharing
FABIO OLIVEIRA 👍😁
Thanx man got mines working
Great news!
Excellent video sir
Thanks for the video, it was very detailed and informative. I have the exact same Make, Model, and Year (even the same color) with the same problem on the same sliding door. I found 2 broken wires and fixed them just like in your video and when I used to key fob I was really excited to see my door start to move for the first time in over a year since I bought it!
It moved about 6" and that was it, now it just makes the same old clicking sounds.
That door is just stubborn. But at least I know I don't need a new motor, it's somewhere in the wires, just nowhere I can find myself.
Lucifer2066 😁👍
great job, you made it so easy...thanks.
larry s 👍😁
I cannot wait to try this!!!! Woman on a mission!!! :) I will update you!!!
Is a very well ilustrated and explaing video.Thank you.
Miriam. De Infante Thanks for watching!!
Incredible! Same exact spot as mine except my wire was broke in 2 spots.
cool, thanks for the info. nicely explained in detail
👍😀
Clear great video and explanation. Thank you.
I must say that my 1999 has no motor and the day I can not slide it open using my hand is the day I should prepare myself do die due to very old age. :)
😁
I just bought a 2006 SXT for $800.00 with 108k miles.. It's mint. They just got tired of stuff not working and sold it. The doors were one of them.. Now I know whats going on. As I can hear the motors. The doors just don't open.. They also thought the rod bearing were failing. As you could hear a ticking..It was a broken spark plug wire at the coil...
Sadly. I got to buy a new Cat.. Someone stole it...Another $200.00 for that...But I'm going keep it. It's that clean...
Very helpful, Thanks!
Glad it helped!
I wish I had found this a year ago... I can't wait fto fix this problem. It's a constant pain in the butt. I hope it fixes the lock issue on the other door as well...
thank you. this was a nice and quick fix
😁👍
