Thank you! Worked for my 2009 KIA Sedona! Driver door could operate own window, but no automatic door locks, other door windows, or the fuel release would work. Tried replacing the driver door module (DDM) fuse with the specified 30A cartridge...didn't work. I simply did what you said, except I was impatient...I disconnected the negative wire, waited 30 seconds, and then immediately reattached. That did the trick! Many, many thanks from my wife, who drives the van!!!
Thank you. Exact thing is happening to my 2016 Grand Caravan. Going to try this! UPDATE: Just tried this and the brain and fob are playin’ nice now. A local mechanic wouldn’t even mess with the fob or fix and the Chrysler Jeep dealer said change the fob batteries and clean the connections inside the fob ( which I did) and still no joy. Your fix worked wonderfully! Just spend a few dollars at the auto store on alligator leads. They also wanted to know if it would work. Happily yes. Thank you.
Let us know. This resets the computer. Spoiler alert, our issue ended up being the TIPM. (typical dodge problem area) Anyways, all the best. Let us know if it worked!
It ABSOLUTELY WORKED !...Thank you , brother. I followed your directions and it is back up and running perfectly. Much appreciated !@@unclemarksdiyauto
I tried it without the jumper cable but just put my key in the ignition to start it to discharge the battery and it worked. At first it didn't seem to work but after a few minutes of trying to lock the door it did work. I have a Kia Rio 2012 and it finally works. Thank You. Took 10 minutes.
This fix worked for my 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 too! I was at wit's end and waiting for an appointment 3-4 weeks out at the Dodge garage. 20 minutes and voila! So far, so good. Thanks a ton Mark.😃
Great info. This might be associated with the auto lock fearure, locks at a preset speed. At least they gave us an actual metal key to open the door, lol.
The metal key can be very valuable Donnie! At least we can get in if something happens! A completely dead vehicle battery would also be why a real door key is valuable. At least you could enter the vehicle & pop the hood to access the battery!
I have a 2011 Toyota Highlander and 3 of my doors stopped unlocking. Passenger and both back doors. All at the same time? Do you think this might fix it? I can replace actuators, but i don't think that's the actual problem
I would think it is the wires coming out of your drivers door going into the body. In that flexible boot, the wires will be broken. Very common as vehicles get older.
Is there an easy way to check those wires for breaks/continuity? Like do you have a video I could watch or should I just search through RUclips? The doors will still lock when I use the door button or key fob, but won't unlock with either
@@Arridan9 The easy answer is no. The wires usually break one or two at a time. There can be other issues, but this is usually the first thing I check for. I don’t have any videos on your specific vehicle either. Maybe search repairing drivers door wiring on your vehicle and see what you find. I like to systematically rule out possible causes starting with the most likely. Let me know what you find.
These newer vehicles seem very upset if battery terminals get dirty, or the battery is low. Both can cause all sorts of weird issues. Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you again soon. What kind of vehicle did this work on?
@@unclemarksdiyauto you're right, it was only my driver door acting weird, I thought for sure, that doors actuator was failing. It was on a 2017 Nissan cargo van 2500. I still can't believe this was all that was needed to restore functionality, you're the man!
Hi Splash, do all of them not work, or just one side of the vehicle? Besides where the door and the body wires bend every opening, another issue can be causing it.
@@toring61_52 might be wiring in the plastic chain at the bottom of the sliding doors. Did they both stop unlocking at the same time? (Could be other things as well)
Hello and thank you for posting video. I have a similar problem with a 2017 Ram 1500. After I lock my doors via remote or door lock buttons on door; in about ten seconds the doors will unlock by themselves and my headlights turn on ( they stay on for about 5 minutes or so) and the hazards flash twice (repeatedly every minute or so). I also noticed when truck was running I could not lock doors. If I disconnect door controller it does not help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I been trying to troubleshoot for a few days now.
@@fredf1794 Ah too bad it was a temporary fix. Lots of computers running everything. Something is not happy. Mine got bad enough I had to replace the TIPM. My problem was just the drivers side front and back not unlocking. They would lock though. Traced it back to the TIPM. (Basically a non replaceable relay was shot)
This just resets any computer issues. That being said, some vehicles require the battery to be reprogrammed. I am not familiar with how the Mits system works.
Aloha Uncle! My 2008 Grand Caravan keeps unlocking itself even when my key fob is nowhere near it. Got any ideas? At first i thought i was going senile - either forgetting to lock it up, or pressing the fob in my pocket by mistake. Now i parked it way down the street ...yet it keeps happening!
It could be a bunch of things. One thing that comes to mind is the wiring going from the drivers door though the door jamb and into the body of the van. Might have some wires with insulation broken and they are shorting out causing this issue were they bend i the door jamb. Let me know what you find.
The same thing happened with my son's 2009 dodge ram pick up. We had to buy new key fobs, as one of them was faulty and would send unlock signal even if it was sitting in a drawer.
@@anthonyritch1252 You could try. Your car is old enough now that probably the wires where your drivers door hinges and wires go into the body are broken. You could try this first. It won’t hurt anything. If no improvement, I would check inside that wiring boot on the drivers door.
@@kkjafarhi3174 not if they are hooked up to the battery. Do NOT hook these together if they are still connected to the battery. If the cables are NOT connected to the battery, yes booster cables across the 2 cables will work.
Would this fix apply if my door lock is stuck open? I can't manually move it to be closed. I'm afraid to reset the computer, would I need to set important configurations after that? (not worrying about the radio or clock but main operational features)
If you can’t manually move it closed, either the door actuator is faulty and needs replacing, you have a short causing it to hold in lock position or you might even have a TIPM issue. Don’t bother trying this. Look into these other issues.
It is possible. What we are doing in this video is really just resetting the computers. Have you changed the power switches recently? Of so, the express or automat8c up and down feature I believe is parts of the switch design (if I remember right)
I'M going to remove the LOCK MOTOR fuse # M 38 on my vehicle. Which should " completely leave the locking unit , without power and replace it 10 minutes later, : Which will FORCE the computer to do a toltal RE-SET , upon returning power to it ... I'm not removing battery cable's. No way . To much work . But thanks the reset is a beautiful idea 💡. Ho ya Humm it worked !
That will not reset the computer. it will just disable the power from the computer to the switch and motor. (no reset will happen) Also the attaching both battery cables together will drain the computer capacitors completely. If you idea works, it may be a motor issue. Keep us in the loop as to if things are still working in a few weeks/months. Thanks Andrew.
It could. 30 minutes is probably the shortest time I would clamp the 2 leads together. As for this trick fixing other things, the TIPM is a funny creature. It controls lots of stuff as it also has some micro chips inside.
My 2003 tacoma remote is able to unlock but won't unlock no sound from locks. While the door driver is open the lock control does make the big come on . New remote battery is in.
2018 Grand Caravan didn’t work for me. Half an hour battery disconnected and battery cables jumped together. Not sure if the computer was able to reboot or not. The clock maintained the correct time. Could this have been due to the stock GPS in the head unit?
@@Homested_Happenings Normally the clock should not know the correct time. That being said, not sure which radio you have and if they are not using the gps or internet to grab the correct time. Mine ended up being the TIPM. This process has work though for many viewers, happily. As for the TIPM, that was ruled the problem after following schematic wiring diagram and tracing back the problem. Bought a used TIPM on line from a wrecker. (It must be the same TIPM) They are not programmed all the same.

Happens more often when its cold...think this weird ass procedure will solve my probs????hope so
Hard to say as your is a different manufacturer. It is not a hard procedure to try. What do you have to lose by trying it? I am thinking you have a shorted or corroded power or ground wire somewhere and that possibly is more likely your issue.
Can you help me out mate with my 2007 lumina. Only drivers side door lock opening and closing. The other three door lock are not unlocking but locking works
It could be many things. It is just guessing at this point. Many times it is the drivers door wiring that breaks where the door hinges opened. Too much bending of the wires and they break. I would check there first.
I have a rear passenger side problem with my 2008. FOB opens the locks. But the FOB and internal control does not the rear passenger door or the window for that door( Windows will not open from drive or passenger side control) What so I look for?
Yikes, not sure where to start. The controls at that sliding door is not working either? Wires to that door could be broken. I believe there are wires in that plastic chain in the bottom of the door track. There are computer modules in each door as well. A good scan tool could command those features to work, which would be a help. The scanner would also tell if there is communication to that door as well. (Not a code reader) That door panel is not easy to remove either. This will be above most peoples skill level!
I truly don't know. On the Dodge, it resets the computer. Have you checked the wires in the door jamb, were they go from the door into the body? (Will be in that rubber boot) They usually break from the door bending them so many times.
@@franciscocastillo8953 Oh boy! We are having the same issue! Our drives side will not unlock. Our problem is inside the TIPM. Not a cheap fix. Hey there. I have an 08 Town Car, and it looks like I need to replace my lock door actuator on it. It's currently jammed and I can't get the door to open at all. Here's the thing I wanted to find out from you: it was actually briefly working for a day or so, a few weeks ago, after getting it back from a mechanic who was diagnosing something on the car for me. I haven't been able to talk to the mechanic since then......but I suspect that he might've briefly dissconnected the battery for a brief time. Do you think dissconecting(then reconnecting) the battery is the reason why that door was briefly working?
Disconnecting the battery should have nothing to do with this problem. These lock actuators go bad. Sometimes they work poorly for a long time, sometimes they stop. I would think you still should be able to manually open the door. (I could be wrong) Replaced one on the wife's van. On her's, it would just not lock or unlock electrically. Her is me replacing it. (Not easy) ruclips.net/video/OcBPU9zrQrw/видео.html Also video on how it works: ruclips.net/video/Jw4b8bThNAs/видео.html
Could be the switch. Have you looked at your wires between door and body were they flex when opening and closing drivers door? Very common for them to break. I would stat there.
Juss a question sir I have a 2022 Ram 1500 my back driver side door won’t lock or unlock I have to manually lock and unlock it now I know u said it may work for the 20s vehicles but anyway this won’t mess up my computer or anything like that correct?
Could be a wire in the drivers door were the wires enter near the door hinges. If it was the switch, I would expect that one of the functions like lock OR unlock would work. So NONE of the doors lock or unlock, or just one?
i have a 2018 jeep cherokee that the powerlocks doesnt work at all both from the inside and the fob. i cant even open the liftgate. will that jumper method will work for me?
I have the same SUV and my right passenger lock doesn’t work. I will try this method soon and will let you know if it works. Meanwhile if you have tried this method please share your experience
I have a problem and it's with buttons on the window switches. Could it be the door module or should I try this process? No windows or door locks both sides. 2012 Caravan Mirrors work and vent windows work though.
So hard to diagnose without a good scan tool. Tool could command windows up and down which would answer so many questions like your door module. Each door has its own module, so probably not module. Did all the windows and locks just stop all together? Or did it happen to one first?
@@chrisolds7698 No. It just help drain any residual power left in any of the computers. So they are really off. Just make sure both cables are unhooked from the battery. In reality, there is a small chance this is your problem, but try it. It has worked for some viewers.
My 2012 dodge grand caravan just had this issue yesterday. None of my doors will unlock or lock using the fob, the drivers door panel or the passenger door panel. If I click the lock button on the fob, the horn will honk as if it's locking, but the actual lock switches on the doors don't move. Any ideas?
Not off hand. Did you try unhooking the van battery for 10 minutes? These vans have issues with the under hood fuse box (Called a TIPM) The worst thing can could be wrong is this TIPM. Very expensive. I would try the van battery first. Weird that no locks work either with FOB or switches in van. Usually it is just one side of the van that acts up. Keep us posted, Grace!
I have exact same probkem with front passenger and rear driverside door. I tried this trick but didnt work. What i shoud do? My car is Lexus rx330 2004
Could be wiring in drivers door in the door jamb where wires bend when you move door. Probably a couple wires broken. This is the first place I would check.
I had unlocking rear door, (the one you lift at the back). Would sound the locking OK but wouldn't unlock. Then I tried this and it unlocked all doors including the one but when I locked it again, same problem. Then, for no reason, I kept pressing unlock on the remote and it started working again OK. Seems when I locked vehicle some time I pressed the lock button on the remote more than once and the locking system needed me to unlock it more than once.
You probably need a door actuator. What are you driving? And what year? If it is a grand Caravan, the sliding doors are hard to do & I don't have a video on it. I did one on the front door. Take a look how hard they are to do here: ruclips.net/video/OcBPU9zrQrw/видео.html

Door issues might be wiring where it goes from door into the vehicle body. Wires flex in that rubber boot & eventually break. Very common. Light issues might be related to each other. A good wiring diagram will show what they have in common. (If their problem is related to one thing.)
But also the dome light doesn't work and the headlight only works with the key on, they all quit at the same time so did the hazard light and blinker. All fuse and relay got power?
@@Catholic1391 I had a relay in the TIPM that was not allowing the drivers side to unlock. Of course the relays that handle this function are as is the fuel pump relay, soldered to the circuit board inside the TIPM and are not available from Dodge. try it again first. My problem has gotten worst. The hidden soldered in relays for the drivers side locks has died. (Just the unlock part) This is located in the TIPM. (Fuse block under the hood.) I will be replacing those relays, but need to research it more as they are not really listed as part numbers anywhere & I imagine the different years are different numbers. Dodge dealers just replace the unit at around $1200. The fuel pump relays are usually the ones to act up and finally go. (I will replace that one as well)

Nope, its a reset of the computers that this is doing. The shorting out both cables together for the 30 minutes or more drains all the capacitors. If your battery cables are loose or dirty, you will be having other issues.
It drains the capacitors fully in the computers, so the memory is truly gone. Otherwise, what ever the glitch in the memory is, could still be there. We want the comupters to forget everything and relearn the process.

1st question, is this not under warranty anymore? Do the chrome lock buttons on the door panel pop down when you hit lock? This is weird that such a new van is doing this. Did it start with just one door lock doing this? If it was just one, I would think this is the problem, but again usually after these vans are a lot older, and usually one door only: ruclips.net/video/OcBPU9zrQrw/видео.html
@unclemarksdiyauto not under warranty as I'm the 2nd owner. Now that you've asked we've only tried 1 door so I can try the others & see if it still happens.
@@mariedaniel2978 Humm, I thought you said the front did not lock. Either way, each door latch has a switch in it so it the switch does not trip properly, the van computer thinks it is unlocked.
@unclemarksdiyauto I thought it wasn't. I honestly haven't had it very long. I've seen 2 things to try, your solution & pulling the m38 for about 30 seconds & Holy cow that fixed it. If it didn't, I was going to try your battery terminal solution next. Thank you so much for being responsive, & my apologies for my temporary ignorance.
By touching the cables together you drain all juice from the system. I use Ballistol gun oil on my battery terminals. Many more ways to use Ballistol. Cleans Guns wood metal. Amazon get the full liquid not the spray
When I have done this I took may rubber bath mat from my tub and put it over the battery after disconnecting the terminals so electrical terminals from battery aren’t exposed.
What you driving, Steve? You probably have a wire broken in you drivers door jamb. Right now, wife's 2010 Grand Caravan has no unlock on drivers front & sliding door. Locks with all the other doors.
2010 grand caravan no power windows or door locks up front, the passenger front will lock unlock ? Power to master switch, motor works with power ground supplied but nothing with driver switch
Thanks Erica! Usually the very first thing that a shop checks are for broken wires where the door hinges are. I need to do a video showing how to pull back the rubber boot covering them and show how to check. They either have to be joined back together by soldering them, or by replacing the wiring harness as eventually all those wires break from flexing.
how the heck did you figure this out ? you are smarter than the average bear...this should save some folks a few hours at the mechanics shop ..what a great tip and good video thanks uncle
Smarter? Nope! You know me better don't you? I knew it will reset the computer by doing that & hoped it would allow the door locks to be back "on line". It has worked flawlessly since I did the video, which was back in maybe in June or July (2021) It got all upset when I swapped the door lock actuator.

I don't understand the connecting wires part. I disconnected from battery for 30 minutes and still driver side moves a tiny bit but doesn't actually lock ir unlock whether using the buttons on the door or fob. The buttons on driver door unlock & lock all other doors though.
The problem could also be your drivers door latch. it has the electronic parts (its like a little motor) that pulls the manual door button to lock and unlock. You are probably going to have to see a mechanic. Ask around to see where is a reasonable place to get this done. You don't have to go to the dealer.

Possibly. I think your vehicle is still old enough to try this. Some of the newer vehicles, especially the high tech Mercedes and BMW's etc need to be reprogramed.

Should not. (And did not)
I disconnected the battery and cleaned the terminals on a 2005 Grand Caravan. I did not connect the two battery cables to each other. I waited about 10 minutes. The locks worked for about a day and then stopped working again. I’m going to check the ground strap from the engine and try again this time connecting the two battery cables to each other. Any other suggestions?
try it again first.

Maybe the battery terminals only needed to be cleaned?
Nope, its a reset of the computers that this is doing. The shorting out both cables together for the 30 minutes or more drains all the capacitors. If your battery cables are loose or dirty, you will be having other issues.
Why jumper them together?
It drains the capacitors fully in the computers, so the memory is truly gone. Otherwise, what ever the glitch in the memory is, could still be there. We want the comupters to forget everything and relearn the process.
I think the issue with my lock is mechanical. It'll respond trying to unlock but it just seems to be stuck-stuck. Doors won't open from inside or out, so this didn't do it for me unfortunately.

Hello I have a Dodge journey 2012 and my outside button for lock door not working anymore i try to change the handle and all module and check fuses but still not working Help Please
Hi Yann. Do none of the doors lock? Is it just the drivers side front and back not working but the passenger side and the hatch lock? Do they just lock but not unlock? Could still be a lot of things. You could have a wire broken in the drivers door jamb. Could be the TIPM itself. (the under hood fuse box) I need more information.
Its just driver side front all of the other work
@@yanndesjardins7978 My first thoughts are seeing if you have any wires broken in the door jamb where the wires exit the door and enter the body. Eventually they do break. I don't have a video on how to check this, not yet. I am planning to have one in May 2023 some times. Door panel has to come off, rubber boot covering wires has to be peeled back. A pain in the butt to access. Wires usually have to be soldered back together and heat shrink over repair. That would be the first thing I checked. I have a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT and the drivers side door will not lock correctly now. Just out of the blue. It won’t lock when I push the fob, it doesn’t lock once I hit the correct speed to automatically lock. You have to physically hit the lock button several times for it to lock. Would this work on a 2018 jeep Cherokee??
It might. If none of the locks are working, there should be a fuse under the hood. (in the fuse box called a TIPM) Not sure what side it is on or what # the fuse is. Inside the lid on the fuse box will be a diagram as to what each fuse does. One should say "locks." It may be burnt out. Replace that fuse if burnt and see if they work. There may be a short in one of the wires that will need to be fixed.
@@unclemarksdiyauto my driver side lock is the only one not working, I’ve tried the door lock inside.. still doesn’t lock, is it likely the actuator?

If power is getting to it both in the lock and unlock modes, then the door actuator / latch needs replacing. This is probably something most people would want to take to a trusted mechanic/tech.

@@serenaalvinandthechargeonq7117 Did this work and on what type of vehicle?
The 2010 is 4th Generation. The door fobs and lock settings can be user programmed with a few steps. I suspect your locks stopped working because you Pocket dialed the fob causing it to change the lock settings to Auto-Unlock. The lock sequence is not programmable with 5th gen. Dodge removed the Auto-Unlock feature and the ability to user program due to safety concerns with 5th gen.
