Excellent! Even if I never do this motor swap, it was so very cool to learn something. These are the micro lessons that carry over to a hundred other fixes. I've already ordered the whole assembly for $29, but I now have a better understanding of the R&R (removal/replacement) for my 2008 Highlander rear passenger door. At about the 5:00 mark I decided I'm going to buy the entire part and not risk digging into this thing, but I watched the entire video. Well done and great information. Thanks.
Of course I could have bought an actuator on Amazon but the car would have stood disassembled for at least 3 days. And then I decided to try and everything worked out for me.
Thank you very much. Of course I could have bought an actuator on Amazon but the car would have stood disassembled for at least 3 days. And then I decided to try and everything worked out for me. Thanks again.
This was very helpful. I successfully replaced an older door lock motor but my new one was sealed like this. I recommend using a soldering iron to melt the plastic to avoid small plastic chips getting in the gears etc.
On a 2014 Corolla LE, I just completed all four actuators. You can remove all screws, remove the metal door latch mechanism, and carefully pry the plastic case apart at the seam while pushing an Exacto knife down the seam to guide the separation followed by a screw driver. For both front and back you only need to separate the half of the case on the side where the electrical connection is made because the motor is right next to this on all four doors. Once half is separated, carefully pull out the old motor and replace with: 10mm Flat Shaft Central Door Lock Actuator Motor FC-280PC-22125 FLAT SHAFT, D Spindle. Then clean the mating surfaces and reattached with Loctite Plastics Bonder after making sure that all of the moving parts are moving as expected. It is doable without taking a Dremel to the case. In my expereince the cases mostly separated down the seam, however everything is able to be glued back after replacing the motors.
Will return to this later this week. I do believe it's may be my actuator but I'm going to look to see if the pin is popped out first. If not, I will refer to this video. Thank you for sharing!!
Great video, this even works on my Australian model 2005 camry downunder upside down wrong side drivers door car:), i have done 2 driver side doors as they had failed however all doors lock and unlock now but when locking you hear 4 doors lock then there is a feedback signal then the horn beeps 2 times just like when a door is ajar, but in this instance the doors still lock. Im thinking the other 2 motors are not strong enough to complete lock sequence and feeding back that a doors has not completed the lock cycle please feel free to comment.

Does it matters what size the motor if its fits? I mean the brushes at the end of it? Because i changed mine with another one not the same but it fits..
Here's a tip. For trying to open or get into a space between 2 plastic panels use plastic tools that are designed for this very purpose. That way you won't have any nasty dents, chips, scratches after you're done
Awesome! My driver's door actuator on my '12 Corrolla crapped out and I don't want to buy the whole assembly or pay a shop to replace it, when I can do it myself.
These can be purchased for less than $40 now. Just replaced mine the other day and it works fine. We'll see if it holds up but for now, it's working fine.
On the driver's side the lock is different. Does it have a switch in it that is prone to failure? The switch that is connected to the handle/barrel lock? When the key in the lock is turned one way, all the doors open, the other then they close?
I am waiting on the motor to come in, in the meantime I opened the actuator and took the motor out. I noticed it does spin when attaching a 5v source. Does this mean anything? Is it possible that the motor is 'weak' and therefore it was not working properly?
By now you have probably installed the new motor. From the videos I have watched in the past, the motor still turns however the brushes are completely worn out inside. I'm about to order some motors for my wifes Rav4.

I got a question about a 2008 Toyota Highlander my actuator is bad and the door is closed how do I go about opening the door in order to change out the actuator without ripping the door panel off on the inside of the car
Any idea how you would get the door open to remove the door panel if the actuator won't let the door unlock. Basically the actuator locks and unlocks both remotely and manually, but the jaws wont release to allow the door to open. My choices seem to be either cut into the B-Pillar and cut the striker bolts off or somehow destroy the door panel and bust the actuator apart. Not sure I like either option. Any suggestions would be welcome.
I just replaced the actuator. Easy. I opened the AISIN brand and you do not have to cut anything or glue anything to pull the actuator out. There are just 3 bolts and play with the casing. If the gear comes out do not worry as they are dummy proof. Now I am going to radio shack to get a new motor.
Brian, you didn't show how you got the entire actuator assembly out of the door? I tried to get mine out thru the top metal opening but a post there was in the way. Did you use bottom metal opening to get it out? Thanks.
That may be your window track, remove the one or two bolts for it on the door and is that was the issue then you should be able disconnect the bar that is plugged into the locking actuator and remove it.
I have a 2007 avalon and I had the same issue with the window bar...I was able to unbolt the three bolts for the actuator and flip the actuator. And maneuver it around the back of the bar...I've done it so much now it's easy as pie....fyi I changed out the motor in one of my doors and it works great now!!! 😁

This was my thought also . The contact points are no the best solution for a sea side environment. I think I’m going to try this clean up approach first
Considering the time it takes for the new motor to get there after ordering, probably the best strategy would be to install a new actuator, fix the old one and just keep it around as a replacement part.

This includes the manual lock switch itself and the rocker switch that controls locks for all 4 doors. Also, when it's hot, the rocker switch on the front passenger side only controls the front/driver side lock (both unlock and lock). The same is true with the key fob remote, which is able to lock/unlock only the driver lock. All other locks do not work when its hot. They only work when I manually lock/unlock the door from inside. Thanks.

But once I opened it from the inside, it then opens from the outside. I got the part replaced and installed this other actuator but it is still doing the exact same thing. Have any idea what the problem might be?
Take it back apart and check out the linkages in the locking mechanism I guarantee you something is not connected that should be or the cable isn't attached.

I have a Video out on the same problem for a 2010 Tacoma , and the Actuator-is the 20mm long “D” shaft .So understand that not all Toyota’s take the same motor
For everyone saying ”just replace the actuator”, I've got a 20 year old truck, where many of the cabin and body component parts available are only cheap chinesium parts. Great for a quick fix, but only a fool would expect them to be a long term fix like OEM. Since OEM, and even many reputable aftermarket companies, no longer make my door actuators, fixing my own actuator is better than buying a part made with the most cost cutting and profit maximizing practices and materials as most Chinese products are made. (Yes, I do understand the big 4 motor companies have fully drank the planned obsolescence cool-aid, and most of their products are made garbage from the get (looking at you, FORD)). And remember, every time you replace your cheap Chinese part, that's more crap going to a landfill, or being incinerated and having those fumes going into the air. I'd rather replace a small motor, than the whole assembly. Hell, id rather replace every single worn component in there just for the sheer joy and pride of knowing ”I keep this f*#$er running”.
Brian, do you also do a video of how to put it back together. I know you can reverse steps, but sometimes it helps to see it happen. If the actuator is bad, will it prevent reprogramming of a fob. My car will do an automatic lock on me at the most in opportune times. The wind blue my door closed my keys were with my purse and it auto locked before I could reopen the door. It that the actuator causing that?
Before you repaired door when you closed the door did the lock stay closed so that the door bounced off lock? That's what mine is doing & I want to make sure I'm buying the correct piece
Hey Chris, i would look at cleaning and lubing up the actual latch on my door first. those get gunked up and stick causing it to not return and bang on the latch attached to the car
@@Availablehandle-i1k the latch has been pre closed by accident if that's the case it's trying to latch to the car already ya need to unlock the door latch open the latch by using the inside door handle cable suppose an outside handle will work if its still on the car hope you didn't slam it
4/5 of my power locks do not work, lol... 2003 RX300 255K miles. Rebuilt trans at 160K, original engine with no major repairs beyond water pump/timing chain (preventative, neither failed).
That could have been taken apart without cutting it. It's a hassle doing it (sometimes it's necessary), but it can be done. However, if you're going to cut it out, you might as well really plastic weld it closed, by either using a soldering iron, or an actual plastic welder (HF has one for around $20) to melt the plastic. I would also test it on a power supply before closing it up. I had a door actuator go on a 2014 Infiniti. It wasn't the motor that went, it was a cam on a plastic worm wheel that snapped off; made a buzzing noise when activated. I didn't want to pay the $500 that Infiniti wanted for a new one, so I 3d printed another worm wheel. I redesigned the worm wheel so it would be stronger and more durable than the original. The original had a few weak points on it which leads to it failing over the long run.
Be carefully when u change this actuator motor, maybe the new motor looks like the original but the secret is inside it, the high quality motors are using coal brushs however the cheap motors only are using a small metalic brush and it will broken so fast
Well, my hats off to you, my motor actually was jamming, so following your removal process was enough to inspect and make an adjustment to the little worm gear. Fabulous tricks of the trade, money saved, thank you
All manufacturers use this tiny, old, brush motors, and The collector/comutator gets dirty and Will have a high resistence, impedance/curent fall bicause of The dirt / debris from The brushes. Why not use a solenoid, it s indestructable. Or a brushless motor.... A door has to rezist 2 million opening/closing. But that is not The bad part, The fact that they don t offer them as a replacement part is The burning one

Where can I buy the motor for 2007 g35 Infiniti?
I like how one part can cost as much as replacing the entire used car.
😂
2007-2009 Toyota Camrys have some many problems especially with the door locks. Still love my car though. It is a sleeper too.

@@Availablehandle-i1k the latch has been pre closed by accident if that's the case it's trying to latch to the car already ya need to unlock the door latch open the latch by using the inside door handle cable suppose an outside handle will work if its still on the car hope you didn't slam it
i got problem with front doors electric lock is not work a toyota cambry 2011
EXCELENTE,,, TAMBIÉN ES APLICABLE PARA NISSAN?
Good job, and God bless you!
Thank u sooo much broo
The original had a few weak points on it which leads to it failing over the long run.
great man! much thanks!
Be carefully when u change this actuator motor, maybe the new motor looks like the original but the secret is inside it, the high quality motors are using coal brushs however the cheap motors only are using a small metalic brush and it will broken so fast
If they were so good then why are they breaking after a couple years? Nice try, Toyota.
Thanks for sharing, not sure why you cut it out? but good video thanks again #LexusTech
please tell me where do you get motor amazon or ebay

It depends on the motor you need. Take note of the shaft length and the shape. And possibly the contact location "is it a stab connection or pressure"
open Alibaba and search “Car door lock motor” made by Shenzhen Jixin Motor
What is the best brand to replace the entire actuator with? Clearly Lexus OEM is utter garbage.
If I ever meet the Toyota Engineer that said "Hey, I could use my toy dc motor in the actuator" .....
What if u can't open the door
Lifetime Carguy
Well, my hats off to you, my motor actually was jamming, so following your removal process was enough to inspect and make an adjustment to the little worm gear. Fabulous tricks of the trade, money saved, thank you
Car manufacturers are smart and does not want you to remove the lousy cheap motor easily! They want 500 bucks easily from you!
Skipped where you swapped the motor gear. Most critical part of video
Another options to glue plastic: crazy glue + baking soda.
