I lived in Redondo Beach when I was pregnant and Primo's Buttermilk doughnuts were my craving. That was in 1976, (Sounds ages ago). They are still my example of a Buttermilk donut. No one comes close. Magic and ratio is so balanced. Randy's when close to airport iconic tourists local.
A good donut is definitely one of the best things. The best donut i ever had is from the Doughnut Plant in NYC. Their original vanilla and creme brulée donut is to die for! All their donut are amazing

Unrelated: A place near bob’s donuts has some of the BEST pastrami I’ve ever had. If you ever stop by, (After quarantine of course) get a pastrami with pickles, you will NOT regret it.

SK Donuts & Primo’s are both incredible!!! My absolute favorite though and what I consider is a MUST HAVE while in LA is Sidecar Donuts over in Santa Monica. Nothing quite like ‘em!
I'm a classic man... Always love combination of classic glazed donut and coffee, got sweet flavor from donut and it balanced with bitterness of coffee. And now I'm drooling 🤤☕🍩
I remember sometimes eating at a donut shop on the way to musicians Institute guitar craft Academy from where I lived at the time. I will check out these other places in due time. When it comes to my favorite donut, my best description is the more dense texture that has a bit of crunch and bite. More bread-ish as I described. That texture, and usually vanilla frosting and sprinkles on top. Being from San Francisco originally, I developed that preference from a local donut shop in the Richmond district where I lived, and the shop is thankfully still there from when I last visited in 2019. I remember my babysitter would sometimes take me and my younger brother James there back in the day. Vanilla frosting and rainbow sprinkles with the dense bread texture, has always been my favorite because of taste and nostalgia attached to it.

I’ve been to LA couple times but never went Randy’s since both trips focused on a Christmas vacation and Grad Nite trip visiting Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, and Disneyland. But now after hearing about Randy’s and being LA’s #1 donuts, I’m putting it on my bucket list for the next trip.
