At least it not as cursed as all monsters attack/Godzilla’s revenge remake

American adaptations of early kaiju films be like:
Godzilla, King of the Monsters: add an American actor, keep it the same film
Gigantis: Change the names and roars, try and remove any connection to Godzilla
Varan the Unbelievable: remove the monster
Godzilla with Anguirus’s roar always throws me off 😂😂
It is noteworthy for being George Takei's first acting gig. Or one of his firsts, anyway.
This was his third role. His first was Rodan! The Flying Monster - the American version.
Two Toho dubs within his first three films is honestly a neat fact.
@@THEDonnyB thanks for that information :)
Giganits - Rodan ! you stole my 'FIRE DEMON ' tag
Rodan - I don't even know you ....
Who's here after seeing the new trailer for "Gigantis vs Kong"
Ah yes gigantis my favorite kaiju
Is that the successor to 'Gigantis: King of the Monsters'?
@@hasangenc2922 yes, pretty much.
I’m anticipating it as much as I was Gigantis 2014
Why’d they name the 1955 film Godzilla the fire monster. It’s not Godzilla it’s Gigantis damn it
Dang, Gigantis the Fire Monster seems awfully similar to Godzilla Raids Again
*hmmmm*
Yeah,I wonder why.i mean, they both have almost the same plot! What a coincidence!I'm surprised one of them hasn't been sued for copying the other one! Someone should do something about this!
The film was named Gigantis, because the studio thought that the public would better go to the original film than the sequel.
Godzilla's roar was replaced because both of the creatures are "fire monsters" and this was done to bring more similarities.
"Its Godzilla not Gigantus damn it"
- James Rolfe
What a load of stinkin’ horseshit.
Fun Fact: The dub voice of Kobayashi is actually Daws Butler, the man who would later voice Yogi Bear for Hanna-Barbera.
It’s crazy that Anguirus went 13 years (From Godzilla Raids Again, not this mess) between movie appearances.
Glad Toho didn’t forget he existed.
I just watched the original version with subs recently, needless to say I made the right decision.
The Japanese film is better but this film used to creep me out as a child. Some of the imagery looks like something out of a surreal nightmare. I always thought as a kid that they must have forgotten how to create Godzilla's roar so they just used the same one as Anguirus lol
This still creeps me out to this day. Mostly because of the intro where they talk about the nuclear bomb and explosions and shit that’s basically pointless to talk about. At times it does feel like a nightmare especially when you see Osaka on fire on the TV. I kinda imagine what that would look like if it was one of the cities I know. For me i live near Philadelphia so every time I watch this movie I think to myself: shit what if Philadelphia got attacked like this? It’s scary to think about tbh
@@thatwolfdude018 I agree man, I think 54, 55 and Shin are some of the creepiest and uneasy Goji films thus far
@@ShinGoji1987Official godzilla 2014 also has an eerie tone to it, especially the halo jump scene
@@redseaweedcupcakes4837 Yes definitely. I wish most of the monsterverse had the tone of 2014 as well. There was a lot of unnecessary humor in kotm especially
@@ShinGoji1987Official I agree, the monster stuff was flawless, the human stuff suffered from the humor. I also think that films like gvk deserved a more darker tone.
I still haven't seen Gigantis the fire monster but i did see Godzilla raids again lol
Hahaha
I'm the opposite. I saw "Gigantis, the Fire Monster" when I rented it on VHS from Blockbuster as a kid, but I still haven't seen the original Japanese version of "Godzilla Raids Again."
I’ve seen Gigantis the fire monster, but not Godzilla Raids Again.
Good! Keep it that way. Your not missing much
@Bill Bixby & Hulk Fanatic 2021 [HotCold] Same here. I prefer English Dub over subtitles.
“Banana oil”
Line spoken by George Takei
I remember this being a curse word stand-in for the Berserker Baboons in Bucky O'Hare & The Toad Wars. I wonder if it's a coincidence or inspired by this dub?
I will never forget the line banana oil.
Just think, if AB-PT’s plan had succeeded, they would have pioneered the MMPR-style localization model nearly 40 years early 😳
Except each movie would be a reboot
Fun fact, I just learned about this video today in a video titled "the history of Godzilla raids again" so this was a nice surprise!
There is some stuff that is a little better in the American version. Such as Anguirius giving one last death roar as Godzilla bites through his neck and I think the music there really helps with the drama. And I kind of like the music they added in the U.S. version while we first see Godzilla and Angurius fighting on the island.
gigantis to godzilla: you took everything from me
godzilla: bitch i dont even know who you
zilla: first time?
This is one of the funniest dubs ever made! And the classic media commentary is more entertaining than the movie itself!
There is one good line. Something like 'it was a sight to break the hearts of men' or something like that during the scene of Osaka being on fire on television.
The guy who changed the title to Gigantis said it was done to make people think it was a different monster, later came to regret that decision.
Gigantis in the Monsterverse:
Classification: Titanus Gigantis
Monarch designation: Gigantis
Species: Unknown
Aliases: The Fire Monster, Gigantisu, False Angillas
Height: 119 meters
History: Titanus Gigantis is a member of the Gojira species which was first sighted in Iwato island then in Osaka of the same year, 1959. It was first seen fighting against another monster Identified as Titanus Angillas. After it has raided Osaka, It went back to an island to rest. It has been kept in an Iceberg were it is now watched by Monarch agents. There are 4 Remaining Gigantisis left on the planet. We may never know if there are more in Hollow Earth.
After the Shin fiasco i saw that you'd posted Gojira and thought, "oh. Toho fecked the channel so everythings getting reuploaded."
This is a much better thing.
Dubbed version reviews?

Man,I should make a Godzilla fanfiction where there is like a evil evangelion-like kaiju that's named gigantis!
You're not too far from the novels that came out alongside the cursed anime trilogy
@@passonthestar3689 yeah, those movies were a little, well, how do I put this, boring.i mean,I was expecting to get to see a epic battle between godzilla earth and mechagodzilla, but no, mechagodzilla is now a city.very disappointed.the first movie was decent,I guess, but had way too much exposition.i had in mind like where a evil human organization captures a very humanoid kaiju(kinda looks like the attack titan, erens titan)and gives it mechanical parts, like a tail, engines, armor, and weapons. it would have a very haunting and disturbing roar, again, similar to the attack titan's English dub roar, and it would almost sound like the creature was crying for help out of it's mechanical prison.Again, very disturbing concept.i made a lego version of the concept, might make a video showing it if you want to see what I mean. It would probably fight some jaegers or godzilla. It would be very powerful too,and there would be a scene where it snaps out of its mind control and goes savage, even trying to eat it's opponents alive.
@@passonthestar3689 hate to self- promote, but you could subscribe and get a notification if you want to see the lego concept. You don't have to,but trust me,it will be a very interesting and disturbing concept.
@@Crimsonking741 ‘creature crying for help out of its mechanical prison’ - yes, sounds very disturbing, along with eating opponents alive
@@sjain8111 yeah,I kinda want it to be haunting, but make you feel bad for it,as it is trapped, mechanical parts impaling it's skin, and it has no way of escaping without ripping itself apart. It will look like just another giant robot kaiju, but deep down,a much more sinister and disturbing truth will be lurking about this Kaiju.......
This film holds a place on my heart, when I was a young kid I looked up Godzilla websites to fill in the blanks on my movie viewing and this one I think intrigued me the most (yeah I was a weird kid). Years later when classic media released it on DVD I finally watched it and it was okay. Lol. That being said the way the story is laid out is soooooooo weird, likely because it was made within a 6 month span. Like the battle with Godzilla & Anguirus is the halfway point. That being said, I do enjoy the monster fight in this.
They should do a Godzilla movie where Gigantis is another member of Godzilla's species. Maybe call it "Godzilla VS Gigantis"
Wow my man gave the original cut 1 Star how little will he like this

Ah yes my favorite Kaiju G i g a n t i s
Growing up in the 70s, this was the long lost Godzilla movie The 'Gigantis" title, may have thrown me off, and perhaps I just by-passed it during my T.V. Guide scans! I did not see this movie until I bought the VHS in 1989. My conclusion was that it was a VERY mixed bag. I do like this slimmer, more agile Godzilla suit however.
Or the footage isn't slowed down
These reviews have some of the most amazing like to dislike ratios I’ve ever seen, also you should review Gorath!
Nice! Waited for this.
Been loving discovering your channel these past few months, love good kaiju content. Wondering if youre ever gonna get around to the Reigo movie and both Raiga movies. The western release titles give a misconception that they were made to cash on on the new Godzilla movies, but were actually made years ago in Japan! I wanna see someone who knows their shit talk about em.
Either way keep jt up! Love all the content
I had seen mention of this movie in a book back in the 70’s and it wasn’t until I got a dvd of it that I could actually watch it. After all that time waiting to see it, Yeh, Up From the Depths nailed it!
"with awful consequence" that needs to be on a shirt 👕
The only way I saw this movie (before it was released on DVD by classic media) was watching it on the Disney Channel back in the mid 90's. The VHS was very rare to get ahold of. Even after watching the movie on cable, the movie was still forgettable. The only thing I do remember from watching it was Kobayashi death scene, strangely enough. When I do watch it now, I only ever watch the Japanese version. Which in itself is very forgettable. Great vid.
Also known as "Dub and Dubber" When you come back to American cinema can we have a review for "Black Scorpion" please?
One star out five? Didn’t know it be that bad.
The only value I see in the movie is the plot device of coming up with a new Godziila after the original was killed. I remember watching King Kong vs. Godzilla, and seeing Godzilla emerge from the ice. This showed me how he was buried there in the first place.
The strange thing is that I DO remember seeing amovie called THE VOLCANO MONSTERS , as a six year old, with a plot like what you described for that film, but it was on American t.v. with the monsters battling in San Francisco`s Chinatown , afterwards gigantis for some unfathomable reason then chased the two leading actors around..sorry but I don't remember how it ended, but do remember that title.
I also believe it was shown on CBS NY late night.
Does anyone else have any memories of this???
But... Did they believe that no-one would recognize Godzilla by dubbing it Godzilla?
Could you review the movie "Them!" possibly?
Lackluster? That's your opinion. I love this version.
Toho: It’s Gojira
The US: It’s Gigantis
Toho: Gojira
The US: Gigantis
Toho: GO JI RA
The US: GI GA NT IS
Toho: Ok FFFINE, It’s Gigantis, but if this is an attempt to turn our beloved Gojira into a name other than Godzilla that is what you’re used to, then congratulations, you have succeeded in failing to exceed our expectations pathetically.
The Japanese version was definitely superior, but I still think the US version was ok-ish, albeit with many, many flaws. Though the name "Gigantis" seems odd, I think of it as an early scientific name for Godzilla. I kind of wish they could redub it with no edits or name changes, but I doubt it will ever happen.
The _Gigantis_ cut remains, to this day, the only version of any Godzilla work that I just have not managed to make myself sit through. Even with the films I just cannot stand, even with the dubs/edits that butcher a film; everywhere else I can at least get through it. Just not here.
It really sucks too because, for all of its problems, I actually kind of like _Godzilla Raids Again._ I enjoy the story alright, and, even though they don't have much depth, I legitimately like the human story and their lives.
Somehow, there’s an American Godzilla film worse than the ‘98 version, and this is it.
I wasnt even aware this thing existed
Godzilla raids again is an important film belive me or not this film is very important because without it the series of Godzilla we love or even hate would never be here for many fans aroumd the world. And for that reason althought a whole mess Godzilla raids again is a savior to the franchise that continued on the series we love so much. So in many ways fans have to give a thanks to raids again
Only reason to see this movie: It's an early non-Star Trek role for George Takai
I actually remember renting this version of "Godzilla Raids Again" on VHS from Blockbuster as a kid . . . I also remember being very disappointed and very confused by it (Especially since the VHS was titled "Godzilla Raids Again", even though the movie, itself, retained the "Gigantis, the Fire Monster" title. That, in and of itself, really confused me). It was probably the first Godzilla movie I was legitimately disappointed in seeing . . . And this was before I saw "Godzilla's Revenge" (Which I also rented from Blockbuster)! xD
I’ll admit, I saw this too and I kinda shrug it off.
I’m one of the biggest defenders of Godzilla Raids Again, but this movie....yeah I got nothing. I mean I do think them adding more music to the fight in Osaka was cool and adding more roars, even if the audio was crap, was at least better than them staying quiet when fighting. More of the monster roars made them seem like larger than life monsters that actually exist rather than 2 almost silent monsters fighting. Idk I just the attempt they made by adding more audio. Still was a shit job though. Godzilla barely has his signature roar in the movie and it just throws me off everytime I watch this movie. However, I know it’s not for everyone I still like this movie and it has a special place in my heart and I can keep watching it til the end of time but honestly everything you said I 100% agree with. This movie sucks. The Japanese one is better but that’s not really saying much.
Same views here, like... I know it's not a very good movie but I still watch it regardless?

Gigantis’ Venus Flytrap Impression
I guess ur going back and doing all the American interpretations of Godzilla huh honest I time the only two worth watching is Godzilla, king of the monsters, and Godzilla: 1985 cuz those Raymond burr's steve martian and are heavily re-edits of the previous movies but I cant wait to see what's next love this channel keep it up.
Ahhh, banana oil!
This is why I prefer the Japanese original. Because at least in that version, Godzilla's roar remains intact and.is not pointlessly replaced with Anguirus's roar. And there is no constant overly used narration explaining everything that happens in the film. The narration in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (1956 original) is tolerable because it is only used sparingly. Same goes for the 1957 English dub of 1956's Rodan.
Banana Oil!
I’m waiting for the next fire monster
Will you be reviewing Godzilla 1985?
Gigantis may be a Subspecies of Godzilla.
Along with dagon (Only on monsterverse)
It sounded like the original idea for this movie was the prototype for super sentai -> power rangers
Before I clicked I knew it was one star
Oh, banana oil.
Are you going to do the American re-edit of King Kong vs Godzilla?
if Paramount Released This Film, The Film Should be Retitled Godzilla: The One and Only Evil, And Replace Anguirus' Roars for Godzilla with Maguma, The Monster from Gorath, Instead.
2:15 - now why do these fricking reviewers always talk as though these older movies have LOWER "standards" in every respect?
Oh are you gonna do like a full timeline and review every film in order now? Or at least the once you havn't already.
I once said of this, "Say what you will about King of the Monsters, but at least the people who made that appeared to have respect for it; Gigantis, on the other hand, was made by some fucking dumbasses!"
That said, though, Steve Ryfle's commentary on the Classic Media release is very entertaining.
Ah... Banana Oil.
If you are able to watch it can you please review howl from beyond the fog
I'm surprised you still gave it a star
I as bad as the dub is, i have some nostalgia for it because back in like 2014-2015 a lot of the old godzilla films with dubs were on Netflix and this was one of them.
noice vids
I missed when Angilas used to be Anguirus
He still is
Gigantis is a good movie a little bit
it one of those movies where its so bad its actually pretty good but i still dont understand why they kept godzilla roar with anguirus
I tried watching it and I just stopped very early in. It was too painful, the inserted bits to make the lead into a stereotype of a rice farmer hurt.
I remember watching this assuming it was "Godzilla 2"/"Godzilla Raids Again" when I was like 7 and even at that young age was very perplexed and annoyed by it and rarely watched it.
Do you mind if I ask, why do you not like Godzilla Raids Again?
Have who done Them?

Like gojira, this movie is great.
#teamgigantis
I think my favorite part of Gigantis is the truly embarrassing dinosaur footage added into the scene where they watch clips of Godzilla in the first movie. Just utter ineptitude on all fronts here
I’m still surprised Toho never brought back Gigantus in Destroy All Monsters or Final Wars. It would have put up such a good fight against Godzilla, in fact if I didn’t know any better I’d say they were the same character!
Are you gonna do Godzilla vs the thing next.
Or maybe G 1985
@Bill Bixby & Hulk Fanatic 2021 [HotCold] I'm saying if he might do the American version titled godzilla vs the thing
@@radzilla1357 outside of calling Mothra "the Thing", even by the Shobijin, the movie isn't all that altered from the Japanese version. Toho even filmed the added scenes themselves.
This movie isn't that bad... As long as it's being compared to the later Showa Gamera dubs. But that's about it, I had seen one of the Gamera Vs Viras dubs right before watching this, and this was an enjoyable improvement.
But even then near the bottom of the barrel is still near the bottom of the barrel, and had I seen the original japanese Viras with sub titles, I might possibly consider this the worse of the two.
I find it easier to laugh at late-Showa Gamera dubs at least. They're bad, but of silly movies. Bad of a serious movie....? Less 'laugh at' factor.
American Movie Company: Let's take a so-so movie and make it worse.
Ah yes but without this movie we wouldn't get Godzilla first foe and friend later on
How do you make Raids Again even worse? Well, they found a way. And it’s worse than All Monsters Attack.
Hi.
So next Godzilla 1985?
hey maybe u can give ultraman a chance? by reviewing Episode one?
Out of all the issues and nitpicks I have with the American version of godzilla raids again the number 1 thing that bother is the title. What type of confusing generic name is gigantis?!.
Not sure who created the name gigantis, but again I’m not surprised since last year GVK nearly stuck to calling Nozuki “Warbat”. Like seriously, it’s like calling Zinogre “Electric Dog” when he’s a wolf who relies on thunderbugs to spread his lightning for one example
Apparently it was because the American distributors thought that general audiences at the time wouldn’t want to see another Godzilla movie.
@@sevet1979 What kind of names are those stupid
