Chris is really trying hard to find things to dislike on this camera. I feel it's also because they've been reviewing a lot of Sony camera's lately. He's afraid to be seen as a Sony fanboy if he keeps praising their cameras lol. But this camera deserves the praise imo. Integrating IBIS is a substantial upgrade. Build quality is improved, better video codec and many smaller design problems of the original A7 have been resolved. Canon renews full frame cameras after many years without changing much. Sony did a lot in one year.
Cole Droster I do wonder if they are playing up their disagreements for the video to be more entertaining (creating more conflict in the narrative), or if they actually do have an adversarial relationship in real-life too, and it simply seeps into their videos.
WTF kind of snowflake are you?? Bit of drama always spices things up, get over yourself ... well, it was 3yrs back when you commented, hopefully it hasn't kept you up at night since
This show is really getting better and better...we've got the Digitalrev TV, which is something like TopGear with cameras, we have Philip Bloom, who makes his reviews like piece of art. And then we have your show, which fits perfectly. I like that there is always this sort of "spark" between Chris and Jordan (just like in TopGear). I'd like to see something more than reviews though, some photo challanges? When both of you would pick one camera and then have some competition?
And of course Maarten Heilbron, who is like your friendly local photo store staffer, who knows an immense amount and never wastes your time. I love his reviews. ruclips.net/video/QqjcRHzj9as/видео.html
Great video as always guys, Kyle was a welcome addition! Jordan, I was pleasantly surprised how good the FS7 looks even after compression on RUclips... Cant wait to see your review of that incredible machine. :D
it would be overkill in my onion (more than good enough). You might consider a a6500 instead (better autofocus and video capabilities) and a bit of a wide zoom. A cheaper but equally sufficient option would be the canon m50 with a wide angle zoom.
Yes. RUclips compresses everything so much that it's a great equalizer for cameras. With that said, I think there are better choices out there for video.
@@lee-nus The lightweight 28-70 kit lens, which got panned a lot initially, has been praised a lot in more recent reviews. It contains OSS, so the original A7 MkI works fine. I have owned one for years, don't need stabilization as I am very steady down to 1/3 second, and much appreciate the lighter weight of the Mark I.
Cant believe m watching this in late 2022. Getting a deal with kit lens for 700USD, new seal packed. I lost my camera and i just do images and not any videos.
The explanation at 14:39 where he compares 1/15th with SR on vs 1/40th with SR off is the most usable explanation of what Stabilization did for actual photos in the video :)
I love you guys, hands down the best camera related youtube channel out there! I like that you two don't agree on much, gives a wide and honest set of opinions on the products on display. Personally though i agree with Chris on one of the final comments about the high MP sensor needing to be on tripod.
Canon 6d2 or the A72? I am a canon 500d user hoping to move to full frame....I know ppl seem to have a beef on the 6d2, but what offer best results, the 6d2 or the A72?
Coming from a full-frame Canon system, I am seriously looking forward to having a similar image quality in a smaller body. And I think with this camera, I've just found it!
A7 M2 or A77M2? Which one would you recommend for enthusiast landscape and portrait photographer? Video recording is also important to me. Thank you for a replay.
I love the back and forth banter on this show. it's very balanced and not overly heated. I'm a canon user and I think the time is getting close to jump ship.
I know this is an old video (I'm currently pretty much watching your entire channel), but I don't think the shutter is annoyingly loud on this (or even on the original). Heck, my T3i's shutter is a lot more obnoxious because it also sounds super cheap on top of being quite loud.
I'm not a fan at all of the Rebel shutter sound, so I agree with you there. I did find the original A7 to be excessively loud, but the A7 II shutter isn't that bad. Jordan @ TCSTV
TheCameraStoreTV I'm glad you agree with me! :) And keep up the good work, I love your channel, so I subbed, and I'm eager to see what else you've got in stock!
Is there any reason why it's so loud? A few people that went on a trip to Greece with me brought A6000's and A7 / A7R's and that shutter would practically echo in some locations. I brought my K1 and it was basically silent by comparison even though it still has to throw a big mirror out of the way on top of closing the shutter. What's the deal Sony?
I got the A7R.... I think a reviewer said that it has the loudest shutter in the history of all cameras... and I believe him. I shoot more with my A6000 these days. I'm probably one of the few ppl who moved from FF to APS-C. Still got the A7R though, great image quality!
I too am an avid Canon shooter and am always looking around at the competition to stay up to speed. Each release Sony makes is a step ahead of Canon at this point, but hearing from you guys and a field professional is very helpful. One of the by far greatest things about Canon, for me, has been that it works in absolutely every environment I shoot in: pouring rain, snow, extreme cold, extreme heat, disgusting humidity, harsh sand, etc. In all cases, my Canon 5D3, 7D2 are flawless performers. (The extra weather sealing on the 7D2 make me extra confident) Sensors aside because...honesty, I have yet to feel a Canon sensor hold me back in my work while countless internet hardasses think they're junk cameras, I just laugh. Working in gloves is huge. I still don't enjoy the looks of that scroll wheel like Chris pointed out...honestly a deal breaker when I think about it hard. The ergonomis/menus of the Sonys killed them for me in the past. Being able to easily operate every function on a Canon in gloves is a great thing for many real world situations I can find myself shooting in each year. Are Sony lenses weather sealed? That's something I'm not seeing advertised. These are things that don't impact the owning experience of many users, which is why it's nice to see ***** get his hands on one. Any overheating issue with the A7 II while recording video? Is it as reliable as the A7S for video? And how does the stabilization work with panning movements?
I shoot mostly portrait, event, and landscape and I'm interested in the A7II, but am curious how the slower autofocus holds up with people in motion? I shoot a lot of family and kids, especially candid shots of kids in motion playing or running around. Can this camera get a clean in focus shot when a kid, running around, looks up at you for a half of second with a big smile on their face before they look away or will the slower auto focus make that more challenging? Same question with parties, or weddings, where people are in motion, either dancing or playing, etc?

TheCameraStoreTV I want to know Jordan, if you had to pick between the Sony a7ii and the Samsung nx1 for solely video work, which would you choose and why? Basically IBIS or 4k? Which is better than low light? Which has less quirks?
Many thanks for all yours videos which are helpful. I have Canon m50 but i'm not happy with iso performance in low light. So i decided to upgrade to full frame kamera, which kamera du you recommend to by canon 6d mark ii or sony A7 ii?
I have a question: So as you can shoot with the a7ii in S-Log2, can you adjust the Screen to show a more contrasty look for a quick preview? The a7s can do it, so if you shoot in S-Log2 the Camera screen will show you a "graded" video, but saves it in S-Log. Ca you do the same thing with the a7 ii? Hope you understand my question and sry for my englisch :D
i find your discussion in the end (where you disagree) very valuable for a viewer, it gives points of view of both of you, different perspectives to evaluate. love it.
The Minolta α-7 Digital of 2004 was the first dSLR with sensor stabilization. After 10 years the Sony α-7 II of 2014 was the first full frame mirrorless camera with sensor stabilization too.
I was considering buying this camera with full spectrum modified for astrophotography/ ghost hunting or a canon rebel t6i full spectrum modified. Which would you go with?
Is there a major difference between this model and the A7Rii? I’m at a major crossroads. I will be using it for portraits, boudoir shooting, and lots of video.
TheCameraStoreTV any chance of getting a good look and tour of Jordan's Mono-Pole Video Rig and why he configures it as he does, I noted an image in this segment and the odd video cut-away over time, got me curious?
I use a Manfrotto MV500 monopod. It's solid and has a great panning action. I tend to use tripods just for static interviews or when I need to attach a slider or jib. Jordan @ TCSTV
I want to see face to face comparison between sony A7ii vs samsung nx1. I'm really stuck and don't know which one to buy.samsung has tons of tech(touch screen,4k,AF,Bluetooth,exc) but I'm not really sure about the image quality compared to A7ii!could you please advise me through a good comparison. Thanks
Hi Ad. Can you tell me what's the lens you use with sony A7 mark II in video. I have a sony a7 mark II & kit lens but I think the quality of kit lens is not good and i want to buy a new lens. Sony FE 55 1.8 CZ is good for me??. Tks very much and sr because i speak and write english not good
Hi !! How are you? Great video!!! I got a question. I have a question. MY 1080 hd videos that I record with any of my cameras ( Sony a6500, Nikon D5600, Canon G7X MarkII)don't play at full HD on my Mac desktop( it's a new one) or and on my mac air laptop. It degrades a lot. 4K works fine. The same footage plays perfectly on my Iphone and Ipad and 10 year old Dell.HD1080 is perfect when watching youtube or any other media, Do you know what the problem is? Thank you so much Jose
What do you think Loxia 35mm f2 vs upcoming Voigtlander 35mm f1.4? Should I get upcoming Sony A7 III or A6700 with Loxia 35mm f2? For manual shooting, photography learning, landscape, artitechture, general use and street photography. A6XXX series always has better video capability than standard A7, and A6XXX develop so fast that it can surpass standard A7 very soon, is A7 III still a good buy or I should get A6700?
The Sony a7II was introduced in 2014 one year after the introduction of the original a7 in 2013. So the advancement of sensor performance was not something impressive. The Sony a7III was introduced four years later in 2018 and that's why the sensor performance of the Sony a7III is so impressive. The only significant advantage of the Sony a7II is the sensor stabilization. Sony has a long tradition of sensor stabilization from its dSLR period. Even before the purchase of Minolta by Sony the Digital Konica Minolta Maxxum/Dynax 5D and 7D had sensor stabilization.
hey! so im no pro in any way but i started out with a sony s58 which died at the beginning of this year and ive been wanting to get a new camera. i will do video more than stills i guess so i was looking at 2 cameras basically - canon 70d, sony a5100. canon was more like an upgrade down the road but wanted to get a5100 for its cheap price and xavchd. but today i saw the a7k on sale for $1075 aud (880 usd) (body+lens+adapter) and thought it was a real bargain. then saw the a7k mkii on sale too for $1748 aud ($1430 usd) (body+20-70mm). yea it is about 550 usd more but is it worth it? with all the features should i go for it? or is a7 good enough by itself? or should i save all my money and get a5100?
Hello guys! Please have you tried the new Zeiss 16 to 35 mm lens? What are your thoughts about it? Is it good from 16 to 35, or is it better to have a 35 prime like a 35 ZM? Thank you for your answer and congrats for the good work! Cheers!
Hey guys, Awesome insight on this camera. At one point you mention something about needing a 64gig card in order to take advantage of xavc-s @50mbps. Can you please explain if this is a definite yes, and why?
A couple of details you missed in the review (minor but still), Sony made the screen extend a little bit further away from the body of the camera so when you're looking down on it the EVF eye cup isn't in the way. The directional input of the SD card is not into the side of the body, not the back of the body. The HDMI & USB slot at moved up next to the other inputs. Sony also substituted the AWB button for ISO and I believe intended the c1 or c2 button to act as the AWB button (I assign Eye AF to C1). I am an A7S shooter and I bump the round dial a lot changing the ISO, so this is a good change as well. With the Alpha line offering in body stabilization, the A-Mount lenses don't offering image stabilization -- now that this body has it, using A-Mount glass with the LAEA4 adapter will allow sharper images.
@TheCameraStoreTV how is the video in this camera? is the quality good? does it suffer from any of the traditional problems dlsr video suffers? any rolling shutter problems and stuff like that?
what do you guys think ,the a7ii or the nikon d610 should i choose i'll use it for portrait or maybe amateur wedding photography? *considering the lens price and overall quality, future investment.. nb. my gear right now is nikon
Hi! Quick one: In what situations do I run into moire problems with this camera (uncertain if I phrased that right). I shot a thing today and one blueish shirt had some funky moire going on. What sets this off and how do I avoid it? Best regards, M
It's $1600 now and the a6500 is coming out and is only $1400 and does have the sensor stabilization and even has a touch screen, in what way is the A7 mark II better? What is the advantage of the full frame sensor of the A7ii compared to the cropped sensor of the a6500? Thanks.
Full Frame= shallower DOF requiring you to either be closer to your subject you use a longer lens. I feel you also get the most out of your lenses with full frame. If you don't mind the crop factor (much harder to get very wide shots with aps-c sensor) and the DOF thing doesn't bother you, go for the smaller sensor. I personally like wide lenses therefor a larger sensor makes more sense for me. I use this field of view calculator all the time in comparing sensor sizes for video & photo. www.abelcine.com/fov/
Franklin Michael depends. subject isolation is important in things like portraits where a naturally shallower depth of field helps. what these others aren't mentioning is the extra stop or two better iso performance. for many, that's even more important than the dof difference.
I have a terrible doubts about whether I should buy the a7s or a7II I love night photography, but take pictures of all kinds. 12 megapixels of A7s seems to me little to normal work How the a7II works at high isos, how about the dynamic range?
Hi Chris..great review..just wanted to know about the low light (high ISO performance) capability of A7 II. Is it comparable with that of the likes of Fuji X100T or XT1? Or even better than the Fuji X series? I am mostly into street photography and trying to understand which will fit my requirement best. Thank you!
excuse me I'm having a problem with my a7ii.. I'm trying to disable evf it's very frustrating to have my screen go black when I'm trying to get the shot as I'm new to this camera I'm looking for a way to turn it off till I'm more comfortable can you help me!
Paul Wence A6500 is a better sports camera. It can focus faster, and track subjects better on the fly, and burst off 11 shots a second. Even the fastest of A7 series can’t touch that at 5 FPS rate. That also means chasing wildlife, pets, or children, it does better too. A7 series are better if your work is critical in finer detailed control, and extreme resolutions of the photos and you have about 4x the budget for gear and far more expensive lenses to achieve it. If you already own crop factor format lenses for the A6000 series, you can use it on the A7 but the results would actually be worse than on the A6500 as you’ll be using only about half the area of the A7’s sensors. A7 is a full frame factor sensor and you’ll therefore need full frame 35mm factor lenses to reap the gains of the A7. So the answer depends. For a limited budget and general all around photography, the A6500 is a champ in vale for dollar. 90% of our general photography needs would be covered by this camera with virtually equal results, and depends on more the skills of the user to know how to take these shots. A7 exists for photographers who take over the controls manually, and do things beyond the average user snap shots, and for that creativity side is expanded with the A7. That is also why Sony has three different versions of each generation of the A7, with A7, A7R, and A7S, each with the extremes being in different areas for expansion of artistic tools, and performance spectrums. So it all depends on what we mean by best... as A6000 series and A7 are very different with target users, while performance isn’t that far off at all for mundane photography at all.
Sandeep Krishnan Here's my A6000 kit. Bear in mind that I like shooting with primes. Sigma 19mm F2.8, Sony 35mm F1.8. Sony 50mm F1.8. These three lenses can handle the majority of subjects I like to take pictures of. I'm not a big telephoto guy. Jordan @ TCSTV
Thank you very much. Would you consider Sony lenses superior to Canon, conscious that price point is very high? I am planning to invest on one of classes of these brands and though mirror less is my choice of body.
Hello! Thanks for the review. It is great! Do you really think it is worth to go for II just for the stabilization system? Thanks a lot and please keep posting! Regards Carlos
Debating between getting the Sony A7R (Mark 1) and the Sony A7II for photography. Anyone have any advice? Is the image stabilization on the A7II worth having fewer megapixels than the A7R? Thanks!
TheCameraStoreTV The 5-axis IBIS has been in 2 OMD cameras for some time now, but it seemed like it was only mentioned in passing. Why is it this review breaks it down and raves about how effective it is when it has already been done before?
It's an amazing accomplishment to get the system in a full frame mirrorless. We mention Olympus' fantastic IBIS every time we look at their cameras. Jordan @ TCSTV
At about 10mins, it was mentioned that Nikon shooters don't have access to image stabilisation??? What does that mean? Nikon does have a very good set of 'VR' lenses...
Hi guys, so you filmed this edition with the FS7, i would love for you guys , especially Jordan to come up with a Review, is that possible anytime soon?.
Eh Guys, howabou the A7s? mention the A7 and 7R, but howabout the 7s? was curious how those two compare, the 7 Mark II and the 7s. does the HIGH ISO of the 7s, balance out the Steadyshot Stabalisation in the 7 Mark II? - Curtis
Great review. I noticed that the shot taken at 3:06 is actually a video. There is water running under the ice. Was that intentional? I thought they were all supposed to be still photos at that point. LOL
I would say the I7 II. It has very good video compared to any other camera as well. Or you could pick up the A7S or the A7S ii - You get beatiful 4K video with these ones, but the price is a bit higher
TheCameraStoreTV Hi TCS mate, just a suggestion, thought of you guys might wanna share some RAW files for sample check in ISO range and sharpness. Cheers
Chris and Jordan, I think you can amp up the agree/disagree bit some more. In Hawaii 5-O, Danny and Steve have carguments which is so popular with the viewers that the writers make sure they have them in every episode. DEFINITION: a cargument is a heated discussion while driving. Thanks for all of your reviews, I come here to find out what equipment is worth taking a closer look at.
Love Jordan's face when he disagrees or is waiting to talk.

Is there a major difference between this model and the A7Rii? I’m at a major crossroads. I will be using it for portraits, boudoir shooting, and lots of video.
please get him as well for an A7r II review!
As always, fantastic video!
Great job guys!
Thanks Jordan, and the head, mic etc....?
Tks very much and sr because i speak and write english not good
So if I was switching from 5D3 which model A7 would I switch to today? Considering mainly photography.
One of your best reviews so far (I've seen). Continue with that "agree / disagree" finish in your videos - I like it.
Cheers!
Sony a6400 vs Sony a7ii, Which one would you recommend? Taking about both for shooting video and photos, but mostly video
Hey guys, Awesome insight on this camera. At one point you mention something about needing a 64gig card in order to take advantage of xavc-s @50mbps. Can you please explain if this is a definite yes, and why?
You need SDXC U1 card for XAVC-s recording, and they are 64 GB and bigger
You expected more change ? What about the 5 axis in body stabilization ?
what do you guys think ,the a7ii or the nikon d610 should i choose i'll use it for portrait or maybe amateur wedding photography? *considering the lens price and overall quality, future investment.. nb. my gear right now is nikon
Would you recommend this for 2019?
Samurai I just bought it. It’s a great Camera they had a deal brand new for 1,000
Its Calderon cool, i bought the a6400 instead.
Samurai hey how you like that one? I needed full frame that’s the only reason I didn’t do a crop sensor
Hi! Quick one: In what situations do I run into moire problems with this camera (uncertain if I phrased that right). I shot a thing today and one blueish shirt had some funky moire going on. What sets this off and how do I avoid it?
Best regards,
M
I do mainly photography but i want have the option for videography in the future. Which camera would suit me best, a7ii or a7r?
It's $1600 now and the a6500 is coming out and is only $1400 and does have the sensor stabilization and even has a touch screen, in what way is the A7 mark II better? What is the advantage of the full frame sensor of the A7ii compared to the cropped sensor of the a6500? Thanks.
In what way?
Full Frame= shallower DOF requiring you to either be closer to your subject you use a longer lens. I feel you also get the most out of your lenses with full frame. If you don't mind the crop factor (much harder to get very wide shots with aps-c sensor) and the DOF thing doesn't bother you, go for the smaller sensor. I personally like wide lenses therefor a larger sensor makes more sense for me. I use this field of view calculator all the time in comparing sensor sizes for video & photo. www.abelcine.com/fov/
Full frame shallower DOF? Wouldn't that be a bad thing?
Franklin Michael depends. subject isolation is important in things like portraits where a naturally shallower depth of field helps. what these others aren't mentioning is the extra stop or two better iso performance. for many, that's even more important than the dof difference.

I have a terrible doubts about whether I should buy the a7s or a7II
I love night photography, but take pictures of all kinds.
12 megapixels of A7s seems to me little to normal work
How the a7II works at high isos, how about the dynamic range?
Hi Chris..great review..just wanted to know about the low light (high ISO performance) capability of A7 II. Is it comparable with that of the likes of Fuji X100T or XT1? Or even better than the Fuji X series? I am mostly into street photography and trying to understand which will fit my requirement best. Thank you!
Chris, about the loud shutter, doesn't it have electronic shutter like the A7S?
Hey guys, I don't really care about 4k Video, and mostly looking at this one for photography. Do you think this is still a good option for stills?
excuse me I'm having a problem with my a7ii.. I'm trying to disable evf it's very frustrating to have my screen go black when I'm trying to get the shot as I'm new to this camera I'm looking for a way to turn it off till I'm more comfortable can you help me!
which one is better camera, a6500 or a7ii?
Would love to hear your views on lens that go perfectly with mirror-less cameras...especially a6000
Sandeep Krishnan Here's my A6000 kit.
TheCameraStoreTV as a single travel lens/indoor/low light situations... should i consider 24mm F1.8 for a6000? thx!
Hello! Thanks for the review. It is great! Do you really think it is worth to go for II just for the stabilization system? Thanks a lot and please keep posting!
Regards
Carlos
Debating between getting the Sony A7R (Mark 1) and the Sony A7II for photography. Anyone have any advice? Is the image stabilization on the A7II worth having fewer megapixels than the A7R? Thanks!
Hi there. Can I ask you where the lever for the zoom in this camera is? Help me, please.
Just a strange one.... the intro music, is that the bass line from the Yes "Heart of the sunrise"??
been waiting for this review! Thanks guys, great job :)
I'm using T3i
I'm still thinking to upgrade to a7rii
should i get sony a7r ii ?
What lens did you use at yhe end of the video? What lenses would you recomend? Thanks!
Are you in a permanent state of winter in Calgary, always cold and freezing in your vidste, they are great though ;)
Sony a7ii vs fuji x-t1 (I know the different sensor will make a difference) which one is better all round mirrorless camera?
I think TCSTV show is getting better & better these day.
Instantly this is my favorite show. Final things to say that Kyle taking very nice photo. :)
At about 10mins, it was mentioned that Nikon shooters don't have access to image stabilisation??? What does that mean? Nikon does have a very good set of 'VR' lenses...
Does this camera have 'real time expoure' during manual mode? Or in aperture priority when turning the exposure comp dial?
mcmc Absolutely! Or you can disable it when working with strobes.
Jordan @ TCSTV
What adaptor do I need to use a Nikon 85mm 1.4 lens on the A7 mk2 please?
Canon user says mirror-less doesn't have enough dynamic range lol
Exactly dude. Canon is producing the lowest dynamic range cameras in advanced customer and pro field... And he just said that...
Chris has such a perfect hosting voice. I would think you did radio or heavy speaking roles before this channel. Great review and perspectives.
Always great content coming from your videos, guys. Thank you for your work!
- Curtis
why is he taking pictures of sticks with a $1700 camera?
lolloloollooz
lmaooo
Field Test.
Ikr lol
Lmao
What lenses are you using in the A7 II? Is it the one that is built-in or ..?
Wait so if I use like a Tamron 24-70 or a Canon 24-105 I have to manually pick the focal length for the built in stabilizer or can it be on auto?
some adapter will allow u to auto focus but some does not
Great review. I noticed that the shot taken at 3:06 is actually a video. There is water running under the ice. Was that intentional? I thought they were all supposed to be still photos at that point. LOL
#TheCameraStoreTV what would you recommend A7 ii or D750? I'm planning to do 50% video and 50% photography
I would say the I7 II. It has very good video compared to any other camera as well. Or you could pick up the A7S or the A7S ii - You get beatiful 4K video with these ones, but the price is a bit higher
Thoughts on the A7ii vs a6500?
Hi! for a beginner which mirrorless camera do you suggest?
Excellent job, I'm really liking the format and everything about the show. Please do one of these on the A77ii (two 7's!!).
TheCameraStoreTV Hi TCS mate, just a suggestion, thought of you guys might wanna share some RAW files for sample check in ISO range and sharpness. Cheers
How bad is the A7II AF compared to the A6000 AF? Would be nice to see controlled environment test photos and video footages.
Jordan says A7 and A7R have the same shutter noise and kick, but on the A7 this can be mitigated with electronic front curtain turned on.
Yeah but Chris is going to get his hands moving and they'll be a crash. If Jordan's driving he'll NEVER get a word in.
