It's only appropriate to thank you Mr Schneider, for this fine lesson. I have studied it mindfully, learned a lot, and am already putting it into practice. Now I need to build myself a library of songs I know very well, that I can tie to various common chord changes, that I want to be able to recognize, as I transcribe by ear to play by memory (jazz). I've got the I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-IV-V down already 😉
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "You're a great teacher, Jeff!" Although I already knew this, as a teacher myself I wanted to see how you explained a concept that is sometimes very hard for beginning musicians. That was expertly done! Bravo!
I've been playing piano for a litte over 2 years, but only been singing for a couple of weeks. Long, painful story. But I found my range of A2, and I was comfortable over a Pentascale. I had difficulties going lower, and only a little easier going higher. But whhile watching this video, I found it easier going down to F2. This was a fascinating video, well worth a bookmark to watch several times. Merci.
I see where you’re coming from. But I think it depends on a couple of things. If you’re already familiar with the Nashville numbers system, but not those formal terms, it’s going to be much easier to use chord function numbers. And if you are into the mathematical aspects of music theory, the same applies. I’m guessing you grew up using those terms more than the numbers systems so it’s easier for you. But I’m going to study your way just to give me more “languages“ to communicate with. so thanks for your comment!
Super nice POV's really helpful and relatable!! Thank you ... while you always look like you are going somewhere (with your jacket) ... or maybe your heating sucks idk ... LOL sorry just jocking a bit ... you are super talented and sympatic.
This is the way. Get familiar with the colors of each chord function, and use your music theory and style/genre knowledge to narrow the possibilities. I’m far from a great musician, but I do have the ability to do this (identify chord precessions by ear) pretty well - and what you describe here is pretty much exactly how I do it. 😁
Brother , God and Saviour Jesus Christ Loves You. And I want to Preach to You About Our eternity when we will leave this Life. We will Go either to Heaven or To Hell . See Brother we have all sinned and live in sin if we examine our life. And a Person really has fear of Death when our Death is near. And Bible Says all Sinners will Go to Hell . So How to Get out of Hell ? The Answer is That We have all Sinned and Condemned to Hell and we need The Saviour who can save us from Hell. The Loving God of Universe Became Man and was Born to Virgin Mary and His Name is Jesus. Jesus lived a Perfect Life that we couldn't live . Many people Know Jesus Died on The Cross to save us but they do know what it means. The wages of Sin is Death . And What Jesus Did was that You and I broke the Law and Jesus Paid the Fine on the CROSS . Means He Took our Death and On Third day Rose from The Death and Says to Everyone and Everywhere To REPENT OF THEIR SINS and BELIVE In Jesus and Get Saved . Brother I love You , But God loves You Infinity More. Humble Yourself to Him and Belive in What He did for You and Be saved from Hell. Our Life is Short in the World but the Gift of God is Eternal Life Through Christ Jesus our God and Saviour. No Other God is there but Only One God , The Triune God of The Bible who can Save You. Repent and Belive in Him. God loves You.

Thank you for breaking it down like this. I've been playing for a while but never learned to play by ear. This inspires me to start.
Thank you, great tutorial!

Great lesson!!
You’re changing my life every day man !!! Thank you !
Great tips, I'll try it on the guitar.
Nice lesson - will try on my guitar ... Thanks!
Honestly fantastic video and explanation
I think, for chord functions, it's useful to use their names: dominant, mediant, submediant, etc. It implies their purpose.

Are you going to do a Black friday discount ok your site?
…and when you get home you can just find out what note you were singing, because you have perfect pitch now 😂
Fantastic
What about classical piano pieces Jeff? Do a take on that.

What if the song is made by modal interchange.
Good job but how about woolly bully watch it now 😮
I must be dumb because I don’t understand the concept or lesson.
It's basically a tutorial on how to figure out the harmony/ chords of a song
