I can't wait to get ALL my tanks beautifully planted! What plants do you think should be in my next tanks? I'm thinking 100% crypts! These were all my own plants, but If you're looking for some nice plants here is a great source: flipaquatics.com/collections/live-plants
All the plants are so interesting. I didn't know half of them.. I never thought about plants being over-collected in the wild..I think about it in regards to fish..but it makes sense that it happens to plants too... Its good to know. I'll try to be more mindful where I get my plants from.
I'm not sure about other species but for buce it is a huge problem! Mostly because its such a slow-growing plant that wild populations can't recover quickly. Poor buce
@@SimplyBetta It's not really much of a problem as it was before when they were being introduced to the hobby. Now days, a vast majority of buce are commercially - or privately - grown.
I love your tank it's fantastic I was. When you're growing the beginner plants how long does it usually take for them to grow. Hoping to put java fern in the back of my tanks and I'd also like to put in some the plant that looks like grass I'm sorry I don't know my name. The plant that looks like grass can it do well in gravel. I don't have root tabs but I do have liquid plant food that I use. Whenever I do a water change every two weeks I always add plant food:) I keep my fish tank lights on about 6 hours a day. Is that okay? Because in Taiwan I get different information they told me only to keep them on for hours a day but I'm usually at work
I do the same thing with growing out fry. I have a 10 gallon that has a thick carpet of dwarf sagittarius and rotala indica and a few other stem plants. Its great for placing cory eggs in to hatch. The fry disappear into the dwarf sagittarius eating all kinds of micro treats. Then i start seeing them pop up when they are bigger then guppy mouths. Its always a surprise to see how many survived.
Thank you for being so approachable! You’ve definitely helped me a lot with purchasing things for my first betta tank. Now they just have to arrive in the mail!!
I’ve been addicted to watching these betta videos! Growing up, I always had bettas, learned from a lot of trial and error, and for Christmas I received a micro tank and decided to put one in it. I had forgotten how much I loved them, and ended up getting another tank and furnishing it with live plants. I was wondering, how did you get into breeding fish? I’ve bred mollies and Platies in the past, but never bettas. But I’d love to do it when I have the time and space to do so.
You have given me the inspiration to have all my betta's, to have planted tanks. I have 35 of them most are in spilt tanks. They all have a 2 gallon limit. If I could give them more space I would. Each BETTA I have was or is sick with something. Alot have been labeled trash and saved them. Thank you much💓 my fish are so much happier with live plants.
I really love the Vesuvius! Did you have it growing in sand? I love sand but a lot of people say plants don't do good in sand. I don't have my 2 tanks set up yet, waiting for our house to get ready, hopefully the middle of the month!! What kind of light are you using on this tank? Thank you !! 🤩
This channel is awesome. After watching this Video I had to go back in your archives to get the name of that powder you had used to clean up a few 20 gallons you got a few months ago. I came across two 20's on offer up and wanna have them looking new. Keep up the GREAT WORK.
Oh yeah barkeepers friend was great! I wish I could go into that video and also try a razor blade, that really helped with some of the extra difficult deposits
Absolutely gorgeous and this definitely inspired a super impulsive planted tank build LOL Question: Your site says your photographing your next batch of fish for an upcoming update; is there an approximate timeframe we should keep our eyes open for that update?
Thank you for sharing your Aquarium Beautification program with us. Those young Bettas look great! A direct reflection of your love for all of your animals. Hope 2019 will bring you and yours good health and prosperity. The Happiness is already there, Taylor. Happy Fish Keeping.
Quick question. I have seven tanks and three of them are probably like 2 gallons. each of them have a filter but two of the tanks constantly smell even if I do water changes. I use gravel because when I first got into the hobby we didn't have aquarium soil in Taiwan. I have tried everything to get the smell out of the tanks but I can't. only two of the tank smell after I have changed the water or have done a full water change. I've tried scrubbing the gravel in between my hands taking out the plants that that only have rhizomes and the cave that's in each of them. Could you recommend something that might help just to get rid of smell? It can't be my filter because I rinse the filter tank water. Every my tanks has a hang on filter. one of them is a new tank but when I bought it I rinsed it out with with warm water several times. I rinse the gravel several times. I wonder if it's because it's close to the window but I've truly don't know. Maybe fish to smell but as I said the other tanks. I try to check the plants that I have carefully to make sure that stuff isn't dying. I do have plant check every day so I don't know I just can't quite figure it out
Very nice looking tanks, Got my 40 gallon rack coming for the golds in a week. Sadly its not good proportions for a ten gallon rack I think, but hey a reason to buy another rack and then more tanks to fill it!!! I am curious what black sand do you use? I was thinking it would be a nice idea for some of my tanks I'd like to redo as I move them.
if its perfect for a 40g it will be too shallow for a 10g to sit lengthwise, dang! :) Oh I forgot to mention my black substrate - I used some old ADA aquasoil that I had laying around. It is a fired clay substrate.
Another awesome video Taylor! That piece of wood with your selection of plants looks incredible! I'm sure those tanks will be flourishing in no time :) So I'm guessing that the filter media was already cycled? I've been having a hard time cycling my 10 gallon tank, so perhaps you could give me some pointers?

2fer - bettas and chihuahuas - my favorite! After watching some George Farmer videos for inspiration, last night, I rescaped my 10 gallon tank with one female betta (my exciting Friday night). Alot of work and messy and I have too many plants, but I only have the one tank, so... I was going to try to get 2 tanks going, but I got overwhelmed and nixed the idea - I now have so much stuff (plants, 6.5 gallon long tank with custom lid, Micmol planted light and Kessil light with goose-neck attachment - the list goes on) that I will never use, so I am hoping I can find a hobbyist near me to sell at a very reduced price or give away. If anyone sees this - let me know if you have any ideas - I live in the SF bay area (East Bay).
