Part of the problem you mentioned with the game engine is something the software engineer community calls "Scope Creep", essentially you program things with a set goal in mind. and unless you make the code modular enough in the beginning it becomes harder to add new things without problems arising. Also no matter how modular you make code at some point you will run into scope creep. Think of it like building a car, you make the frame and put a engine into it and then make the rest of the body, well if you want to add wings to it the frame might not be able to handle that, well your boss said add wings to the car so now you have to hack in a way for the car to have wings. I guess for war thunder it would be backwards because it started as a plane game.
You said it better than me. That last bit is what some of my points are about. Is that they say just fucking get it done and it’s killing the game in the process. Idc if the game has the highest player numbers an income ever. Its not going to hold once some major world issues end. Again Covid is a big reason.
I always thought it started as a tank game that had planes (to compete with World of Tanks for example). Activision has somehow managed to Macgyver their engine.
Do you think that original 1952 cutoff date was because they knew the engine and networking couldn't handle BVR radars and all this modern tech? I feel like Gaijin's management originally had a clear vision for their game based on their technical limitations that faded over time.
This has happened on EVE online, the code is so old now they can’t add new stuff without problems and lines of broken code. They removed walking in space stations as it broke the code even more when they added it.
>grind through modules on vehicle to upgrade vehicle >get punked by a higher br vehicle >grind to unlock higher br vehicle >get punked while grinding modules on next vehicle Incredibly miserable
>Get highest vehicle >Get punked by helicopters >Get helicopters >Get punked by airplanes >Get airplane >Eventually gets nerfed bc it was a premium >Get punked by new expensive premium
@@lulzalfest Nobody forces you to sell them. In fact, selling vehicles only makes it harder to progress because you're losing income. Only clueless noobs do that.
And when you finally get a fair match....you get stomped to death by all the pay to win shit, like 100% leveled crews who make a vehicle perform like it's on a whole different level. And players who keep spawning in the same vehicle over and over and over. But this dude's only problem is that he has less FPS....
@@sch1ck That's probably for a couple of reasons. One it is fun despite the issues. But in my case, I have (over the time it was released) over 1100 in the game. To put that in perspective that's not even 1 good meal a month for the duration of the game. But it still makes it hard to just walk away from.
@@ln6964 How is this game hard to walk away from? If the devs dont respect the players its easy to quit. I value my time and money and actually understand that the devs NEED ME to play the game, i dont need them. No other game do I despise yet love at the same time. Any other game that pisses me off as much as this one does I’d sell or never play again. But I keep coming back to war thunder. Imagine how good this game could be that’s the frustrating thing…… yet they keep making it worse not better.
tbh at this point the only way they would listen is if we, as a community, stopped playing for tot days, like a strike. so they either listen or loose money
New players are the ones coming in with the cash (IMHO) so existing players not spending any more won't really slow Gaijin down, just validate them ignoring the "older hands" and keep enticing newer players with shiny graphics, and new models..
@@Lucky_MiTo. right like it's a free game why would get a whole game for free w over 1500 vehicles to get if I play, why would I spend 60 bucks for 1 more vehicle 😂 shits ridiculous
Pretty much a TL;DR Gaijin are focusing on monetization, not fixing the bugs or queues. Gaijin are milking the money cow dry with War Thunder, and are about to fall. The bug fix team is being rushed to fix the bugs they find, and, doing so, they leave some of them unfinished because Gaijin managers are forcing (and stressing) them to fix it quickly. The bug fix team cannot keep up with the amount of (useless) content being put out by Gaijin. Players will be loyal to War Thunder, but very few will stay around to play it. Rebuilding War Thunder and focusing on the GAME, not MONEY would make War Thunder more playable. Locking people behind an pay wall isn't good. Tanks have to be actual tanks, not random targets for planes or heavy tanks. Ships need a rebuild, and aviation is needing an update toward the mechanics, not pumping out 100+ $60 dollar jets. Please, Gaijin, FIX YOUR GAME. The reviews on the page aren't helping either. Constant swearing or utter bullshit is making Gaijin devs turn away from it, because they have to dig through 100 negative comments filled with insults to find that ONE good comment that has actual feedback. Imagine doing that as your job, everyday... Edit: - Gaijin are rushing the bug fix and dev teams to fix critical bugs, while they end up pumping out more useless content. With that content, comes more bugs. Do you see the pattern? Fix as many bugs as they can, pump out content, get double the bugs, rinse and repeat. Mismanagement is also a big factor in War Thunder. Of course, the devs have to make money to keep their company afloat, but to treat your players like this is UNACCEPTABLE. - Everything I said here is very ROUGH, in terms of actually explaining it. Watch the video for a 100% more polished version.

I desperately want to believe that war thunder will get better, I know that it's only going to get worse as time drags on. I've been playing for almost 7 years now and it's been such a part of my life and friendships that I don't want it do go down the drain, but it seems like it's been slipping further and further. With so many youtubers advertising it and bringing in new players, some of whom will spend 60USD on premiums, Gaijen has no reason to actually improve the core game instead of adding more and more top tier premiums. While I can understand why they don't 100% listen to the community, seeing how divided and messy it can be when it comes to suggestions, the most recent round of BR changes according to their "statistics" feel like they don't even listen 1%, let alone play their own game. I hope that some day, we get a competitor or people leave the game en masse so that Gaijen is forced to get their shit together but I don't feel like that's going to happen any time soon, if ever. But as long as this ship keeps on sinking, I'm just gonna keep playing some 10.7 air RB with the Draken and having fun tbh.
Just know that if the game would go down, nothing goes 'down the drain'! I know what you mean but still, all the memories and connection you made are still there even if the game ain't :) just spreading some positive thoughts here
War Thunder is experiencing the same things as the Soviet Union: a terrible economy, leaders ignore people’s opinions and collapse from within. (Thank you for using the early classical music, it is really touching and reminds me of the past...)
Gaijin can call themselves really, really lucky that there simply isn't a single game out there, as of now, which is comparable to War Thunder. If there were to be a competitor, doing things just slightly different, man, it would be comparable to winning the lottery. Finally they'd be forced to outplay each other to offer the better game. Good for the consumer And no, to me, World of (Tanks/Ships etc), Armored Warfare, DCS and such are no where near the War Thunder experience
I would definitely say DCS is a better over-all experience, but It's not as good in the sense of paying for modules and being literally FORCED to play with hotas.
@@logantheblonde3935 well dcs is more of a Sim with some video game mechanics while warthunder is a game with some sim mechanics. DCS has its own issues but the amount of detail in it and how much the devs really seem to care makes me happy that DCS is growing. Why do politics have to be interjected? Like guys it’s a game company making shitty decisions, comparing it to political issues is just hyperbole And I’m talking about these comments and just the community sometimes. Yeah, we’re fucked
At this point after 8 years. I guess anton just doesn't give a fuck about the game anymore. What he want is money and his employees sure get that job done. Funny how back in 2013 he claimed: "We're not the greedy bastards here." - Anton Yudintsev
Give them a reason to stop adding payed content then. If you keep shoveling piles of cash in their laps they would be stupid to not take it. Game developers ONLY make games to make money...its their career and they payed money to go to school to do it. I have 3 game dev friends, 1 professor an two entering the field, an they told me this truth while speaking with them. They aren't greedy, its literally their 9-5.
the only problem i have with this game is the fucking grind. so many times have i just stopped playing for a year because i couldnt unlock a single tank within many months of playing everyday
Grind isn't bad, buy one premium for each nation and ur fine. The balancing is totally fucked. After the "grind" ppl complain about you get fucked in whatever Vic you drive.
I feel the same and honestly even tho Gaijin said they removed the RP cap I still feel like that it is there. When you lose in GFAB you barely get 1,2K RP even when you did well and when you win you barely get 2,5K, again even tho you did well. It's like they actually didn't remove it but rather just increased the income just a little bit for F2P players. If you have premium account then it's another story and combine premium account with premium tank it feels like you can grind one pricy tank in one day! It just makes me feel depressed after a match seeing that "Yay! You barely got 2,5K RP from this match! Only 217,500 RP left to get that new shiny tank!" and even more depressed seeing getting under or barely 1,2K RP. It makes you realize how god damn many matches you still have to play to get that ONE damn vehicle! Not to mention how many "Get Gaijined" moments you also have to suffer through to get that vehicle.
I created my account in 2013, when it was only ww2 and early aircraft, those were really good days where no pay to win seemed to happen or no unbalanced uptiers would appear
@@ascorbic123 Back then it at least could have been balanced. Look at the tech tree now and tell me how you want to do that. Especially the jump to 6.7 upwards is absolutely fucked.
I’ve been playing war thunder for 2014 and looking how this game has evolved it really saddens me to see such a beautiful game slowly die. I won’t be surprised if gaijin decided to go even further in jets to add a premium F-15s, MiG-29s or even YF-23 with their AIM-120s. I’ll still be playing this game until the very end to see how it will die and say my final farewell.

War Thunder's biggest glaring problem above all else, is the grind. If they HALVED the SL and RP cost of every single vehicle above 4.0 BR, the game would be a hell of a lot more accessible, and have a flow of new players at top tier; because top tier is very stagnant with the same players doing the same toxic shit game after game; and I can't blame the new guys for not grinding their way up. I couldn't imagine grinding my way up the American tech tree right now. It would be years to get the M1A2.
What sucks about WT is how absolutely brutal the grind is to new players, they keep adding more and more top teir modern stuff and advertise based on them, but its nearly impossible to get to them in a reasonable time due to how the grind system works, needing to both research and buy a bunch of things you don't want in order to progress down a wanted line. I tried to get into WT a year or two ago and still play occasionally, but it feels like I missed the boat or got on too late and will forever be playing catchup, especially trying to be a F2P as it seems even with premium and premium vehicles it will still be a massive grind. Its sad the WT as well as World of Tanks and Warships are all going downhill, mostly it seems because there is zero competition for the neiches they inhabit so there really is no incentive to change for the better. People are locked in and will keep playing an paying because there's no option to play something else
We didn't boycott but we've deff opened our mouths enough to where giajin if interested would be able to hear what we're saying....it stems from a no competition atmosphere, WT has no competition against it to want to make the game any more than it is so why would they need to listen to us...
You can’t say it’s the players fault for playing the game. The responsibility is on gaijin because they’re the fucking owners and should be expected to make the proper decisions
My experience was: 1. New Power: nice New graphics but glichy, hopfuly gets better soon 2. "Hot Trash": ah yes they fixed some Bugs but somehow made it even worse.... 3. BR CHANGES DROPS: Well....what a burning shitfest it now become
War thunder used to be my absolute favorite game in the world. I loved it from the first moment I played it during the open beta up until a couple of years ago. I have thus far in my life invested almost 4000 hours into this game and I wouldn't even want to begin to calculate how much money I've thrown at it. So what was it that killed the game for me? Well in simple terms it was the continued push into modern vehicles combined with the excessive grind necessary to unlock high tier vehicles and modules combined with never ending release of broken premiums with nonsense battle ratings, pluss also the addition of newer nations with cold war vehicles fighting ww2 vehicles. I think it was around about the time when they added the French when my enjoyment of the game started declining, though it was round about the time when they added the swedish tech tree that I dropped the game. It's just not fun to play around in your panzer 3 or Sherman or T-34 when on the opposite side you have some vehicle from the 1950s or 60s that is faster than yours and fires ammunition that completely ignores you armor. What's the point in playing an IS-2 or King Tiger if you are just gonna get sniped by some wheeled tank destroyer that one shots you with HEATFS as soon as you leave spawn almost? I got into war thunder because it was a great game that brought all my favorite ww2 vehicles to life in a far more convincing and enjoyable way than I had ever known before, but those days are sadly long long gone now. RIP war thunder, you will be sorely missed.
I completely agree with you man. I have 500 hours in this game. The grind is absolutely abhorred. I started the German tank tree hoping to get to the leopards. It took me 1 fucking year to get to the leopard 1. I cant believe it took me that long. This game has a absolutely incredible potential. But I share your feelings on how at this rate war thunder will have absolutely no future in maybe a couple more updates. Its a real shame that a game with such potential is ruined with no hope for improvement because of a lack of competition. It truly saddens me that this game is no longer fun.
I bought my last premium vehicle in December last year, never going to financially support this company again, ever. Unless they turn the table 180 degrees of course. Great video!
I got to the shermans, half way through to rank 3 (needing 3 more vehicles) and just quit. I can’t be assed to grind out 11,000 experience again when I don’t have premium nor want to give a company money when they’ll just screw me over anyways
I'd put this rather simply, if ANY game comes along that is even remotely similar to War thunder and the name of it is spread around, Warthunder will be dead, it will be the immediate end of the line for Gaijin considering it's probably their largest money maker. Players are desperate for anything else and no one actually enjoys playing it ( I can only assume ofcourse as I can only speak for myself and the occasional comment during matches ) I quit recently to go do better things which mainly consists of playing completely open sandbox games and fucking around and sometimes finding out. I recommend going out and maybe buying actual games or investing in other things to find something to do that isnt warthunder.
There´s an indie game in development called GHPC (Gunner Heat PC) that, if finished, will be a serious competition for War Thunder. I recommend check some gameplays in YT!
Just get DCS. The devs actually give a shit about their game and don't charge insane prices for models that are 1000000% more detailed, and not buggy. Even if some features are missing on a current module, Eagle Dynamics will update them and guess what - you don't have to buy anything more than once!
@RealMCB legends actually broke this cycle I feel they just tested carriers and they were surprisingly underpowered I actually enjoy wot they recent update brought the HUD back to what it was arty might be alittle op tho
A common, yet grave, misconception is this belief that "competition is good". Competition in this sector has shown to only bring clone after clone after clone of an original, relatively more successful title (think Minecraft, Com and Con, CoD, or the first Doom), corners being cut left and right, as well as a general race to the bottom to churn out anything as fast as possible for key sales/pr moments (holidays or conventions, typically). The core problem is in reality the complete anarchy of production of the sector in general, and the dominant actors taking advantage of it with shady labour practices and by squeezing out customers' hard earned money via deceitful promises.
The cashgrab is so blatant it's ridiculous. The high rank premiums, the copy-paste tech trees, the fact that Gaijin completely neglects content they added literal days ago and instead rely on their "automated BR system" to try and "balance" their game. I played Warthunder since 2013 and I remember when they overhauled the progression system (added research points) and everyone hated it. Well I'm sure no one would mind going back to those days instead of having to put up with the massive grind of today's Warthunder. Warthunder just doesn't work with its current late-game content. Warthunder was originally just a WWII game and only had to balance about 20 years of history and technological advancements. By now Gaijin has slapped on the entire history of vehicular warfare since WWII on top of it and tries to balance it the same way, only adding about 6 BR's worth of room for about 50 years of rapidly improving technology. We're talking super-sonic flight, radar-guided and heat-seeking weaponry and composite and reactive armour to name a few things. To add insult to injury, Warthunder makes unlocking these vehicles near-impossible and as a result this game just doesn't have the player base needed to fill high rank matches without compressing BR's or making the matchmaking times unbearably long, making the already hard-to-balance content even less balanced. It just doesn't work, none of this shit does. I stay away from high rank matches because I don't want my Me-262 to get matched against a fucking F-4 Phantom or some shit. Imagine in a few years of lifeless grinding you finally have one of the million MiG-21's unlocked, only for Gaijin to add the F-35 Lighting and matching it against your Cold War shitbox. So what do I do? I exclusively play WWII content, mainly BR 2.3 to 4.7. This is fun, except when Gaijin adds a completely unnecessary aircraft like the Me-264 and doesn't even try to balance it whatsoever. The only fun thing left to do is Air Simulator battles in just two BR brackets, but at this point why wouldn't I just play IL-2? Basically if I was the person wanting to try a T-80 or M-1 Abrams and had no interest in WWII vehicles, I would look for a different game. Warthunder works if you're the kind of person who wants to try most, if not all of the vehicles and nations, but unfortunately most of the people playing this game just aren't that person. The concept of mixing air, ground and naval battles might work on paper, but clearly Gaijin can't do it. Deploying an aircraft in a ground or naval battle is just a novelty and mixing the three modes just can't be done at all. (The best effort Gaijin ever made was the World War events, but if you ever played those well... you know what I'm talking about.) In my opinion Warthunder failed as a game and I can't see Gaijin fixing this mess ever. I feel like this game will never be "finished"; Gaijin will always find a new vehicle to add, may it be a newer vehicle (some of these tanks were built later than my car) or some paper-plane wunderwaffen UFO no one asked for. This ever expanding assortment of content is growing harder than the amount of people playing this game (if this number is even increasing at all) and at some point there won't be enough people to fill a match, because there are now BR 14.7 vehicles deployed in the Afghan war and there are people waiting in 2 trillion different queues all trying to play a different era/nation/game mode. It can't work.
Honestly, a good way to see how your company and product is doing is to look at the online community's perspective of it. If people are praising it and are generally positive about it, keep doing whatever you were doing already. However, if people are complaining and making memes about how crappy your company is all the time, or how there's been nothing new for too long, you should probably do something about that... If people are complaining about how new vehicles are broken, stop adding new vehicles and focus on fixing the ones you have already. If people are complaining about the lack of game modes, try to add something new to the mix.
See they see the memes and perpetuate them they take terms like derpy russian bias and any and all terms out there and are ok with it becuase like it's been said there's no compition
There is SO many other topics I could go into. Nationalistic favors of ones nation aka the "suffering" topic is another issue but I think I ragged on the community enough in this to make my point. Also I encourage you to share this to as many people as possible. Ive spent the last week scripting, recording and editing. Id like to make it worthwhile.
Nationalism definitely plays a huge part in the problems. I can still remember how adamantly some people fought to justify the most broken shit like the Lorraine 40T regularly fighting 5.7's, or the British having STABs at 6.3, and even Ka-50's when they could spawn with ATGMs off the bat with no ADATS at that time to counter it. It's astounding to see the hoops people jump through to try and justify shit like that. And with how the in-game economy is set up, it's dog eat dog, so people just gladly abuse the shit out of the "flavor of the month(s)" every time. Every time, they fall for the same trap over and over again. Shiny, overpowered new toy, 'it's (insert a Big 4 nation here) turn this time so come play game comrade, buy eagles comrade." And then they do and the cycle repeats itself. Two years ago I remember the same shit happening with Abrams spam, Ka-50's, everytime I came back to the game it was something. If we can stop that, power creep and balancing issues, we can fix the game and make it genuinely decent to play without any other changes to start with. But until that happens no band aid or new toy isn't going to change anything. Gaijin needs a different, less predatory way, of making money or I don't see it changing. Just look into the future of war thunder. There will be Armata's, Leo ,2A7's, Black Panthers and Abrams SEP's, how do you even balance that? The Armata doesn't have people in the turret, in theory, it could just hull down and the best you can do is breach it. How do you balance that? Can you even balance that?
gErMaNy SuFfErs attitude conteminated all the other playerbases claiming everything they play and they can't sealclub, (SampleText) sUfFeRs spamming follows. Actually, this was in present and true 5-6 years ago.
I've actually watched a video not so long ago, by another youtuber, who said "the game is so bad, but we keep playing hoping something will change." Well that's how people in toxic relationships justify staing with their abusive partner. I played the game since 2013 until the end of 2018, spent close to a thousand dollars on it. I've realized the game is going downhill pretty fast. Last two years in updates has been a mess, and I'm glad I quit, when I did. There is no other game to fill the niche, which is unfortunate. But such is life.

As a veteran that's played for nearly 6 years, I agree. Gaijin is making this game that has potential into nothing but a cash grab hollow shell of what it could've been. They took the short term profit, and the cost of that is the player base and the game's longevity. I honestly hope the CEO and the management team gets replaced by better people.
I'm noticing more and more content creators play wt less or just leaving all together. Too bad Gaijin doesn't care. They make their money off new players these days

When you said “It’s almost as if people are playing this game when they don’t really want to anymore” you weren’t very far from from the truth. I know that in my case, I’m just not very interested in many new games that are coming out nowadays. Back in the day I quit World of tanks to play War Thunder. Now that they both suck there isn’t really any alternatives remaining. But because of COVID, video games are basically the only form of entertainment left for me, so I reluctantly play War Thunder.

Yeah people forget how fun World of Tanks was in its heyday. In that game at least you could get away with playing ballsy as long as you knew what you were doing. In WT the second you try to play remotely aggressive you get one hit killed from across the map by someone camping in a bush.
War thunder is very much like a drug. The graphics, sexy planes, and historical promises makes you want to play it again, like “look it seems better and cooler and more balanced” but the second you go back in it just ruins you. Rinse and repeat.

Is there a particular reason for that? Whenever we ask him wtf is he doing, he says: "just because". That may be your answer for the "active community" perhaps.
I think once Gaijn doesn’t have another gimmick to sell like swing wings, or a new shiny tank that everyone knows, theyll have three options, full speed ahead and destroy the game making it even more buggy and pay to win, actually fix the game so that more people will buy premiums for a functioning and fun game, or find another gimmick and die a slow agonizing death, whether it be submarines or super far fetched designs it’ll never have the same hit as the M1 Abrams or F-4 phantom.
The New Kids keep throwing their grandparents cash to the gayjins and fly the GR.1 meanwhile I, getting the whole German air tree done just to get the MiG-21MF and other jets in less than a year without even giving a single cent to gayjin.
If DICE took Battlefield and stripped infantry from it, replacing infantry with all vehicles, named the game Armored Kill (as a throwback to the Armored Kill DLC for BF3) and sold it, it's be a significant competitor too WT.
As a developer and avid gamer I see a lot of good points you make. However, being involved into software development, I have to say, having a separate team fixing bugs from the team writing the features is not a good team setup. Unfortunately, in every project, once the enthusiasts are either rich or grow out of it, everything begins to degrade into management hell. The engine itself might not even be the problem, however the codebase might need rewrites, fresh perspectives, and passionate developers. And I do think playing your game makes you a better game developer. I am not heavily into war thunder personally, only casually flying a bit in lower tiers. However I did clock over 4k hours in star conflict, another gaijin title, which also suffered from issues, and imho is one of the biggest missed opportunities to become a top played space game.
I've never spent a dime on this game, and I've been playing it for 2 years I play it because I'm having fun, but not enough fun to give them anything more then my time
Gaijin just needs to get the Elite Dangerous Dev treatment basically players stopped pre-ordering or buying new cosmetic things until they made sure to fix bugs and make balances that were needed
I started warthunder 2 years ago average players at any time was 50 k players now its 100k players at any time I call that a 100% increase ,games not dying its growing just on those stats
Core gameplay hasnt changed, I consider that dead. AW still exist and is played. But its core gameplay is dead. Thats what I’m saying. New players come and go. They even said that themselves, most people download, buy a premium, play for a few weeks and then quit. Cuz the core gameplay is pretty uninteresting. WT is a virtual military encyclopedia more than it is a game nowadays
I left this game over a year ago because ceaseless grinding burns me out. When my job is to drive trucks for more than nine hours a day. I just do not have the time, even with COVID
That 1400 vehicles is likely 1000 or less because most of them are 'copied' over when they gave captured vehicles to other nations, or 'lend lease' or such.
"Game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up on a better engine" There are so many games that fit that, just off the top of my head is the portfolio of bethesda and overkill.
The most annoying thing is the packet loss and high ping which these latest updates have brought with them. I was playing with planes yesterday and both of those were spiking in all matches.
I stopped playing like 5 years ago and I tried playing again a few months ago and it’s just not fun for me anymore. I hate how much money everything is. I only played for a couple hours before considering to buy a plane for 70$ like come on the greed is too much
I'm a player with a Gaijin account from 2012, but I play on and off nowadays. I think the general sense is right, but I don't necessarily agree with some important points of the video. The game engine being obsolete is not totally correct: most of the engines used in games are decades old, usually just updated in the years, as the Dagor is. To make a new engine from scratch is an immense task, that wouldn't accomplish too much without a huge expense of resources. A new engine would have new bugs, probably would be instable, less optimized, etc. Dagor isn't a bad engine for the task, almost everything mentioned could be corrected and updated (and sometimes they did during the years). the other point is about the involvement of content creators. While I think it's fair to hear their voices more, I think that CC are biased on their own ways, as they experience the game in a way different than 99% of the playerbase does. I think that War Thunder issues are now engrained in the game, the monetisation is absolutely predatory, in game every little thing is monetised, and they are using every scummish practice they can, such as lootboxes; I think that without this kind of revenue the game would die. Lately I've enjoyed the game a lot by... not playing it very much. War Thunder is a game not structured to be played for a very long time, but does everything to be played as much as possible. Maybe it's time to let go of the game...
I think people misunderstood by point there. A lot of assets and mechanics in war thunder are old and they cause issues every update. The game needs to be wiped clean of a lot of its “junk”
I started playing WT near the tail end of 1.27 but quit at 1.33 because of the broken status of the game. I haven't followed it much but I wanted to come back into it after years of hiatus, this is really eye-opening at the current status of the game and indicative that the game's flaws are much bigger than a broken flight model. I may still play the game since as you did say there isn't anything like it, it's a shame since I truly did have some great moments with this game.
That's because the Whales and Content Creators keep spending money and advertising the game, which unfortunately one of the channels that does sponsorships for War Thunder is the tech giant called Linus Tech Tips. I like the channel, it's content, and it's people, but I REALLY wish they didn't push it's many watchers towards this broken mess of a game. Now they aren't like the WT Content Creators and have a custom decal, but they do have a sign-on bonus they offer new players. To be fair: other non War Thunder channels, namely Simple History and YarnHub (I think at least), also do have sponsorships for War Thunder as well, which funnily enough the former has a video of the Maus that is sponsored by War Thunder (Not Gaijin Entertainment?), which Gaijin Entertainment REMOVED the Maus from War Thunder a short time AFTER that video went live... how ironic?
Ever notice how Gaijin is never really spoken about? Its always “War Thunder” that is not the name of the developer and publisher at all. Its a good mind trick
ALRIGHT THEN BOYS Imma start a project called PeaceLightning, Imma advertise it as a direct competition to WarThunder, perhaps the Gaijin management will start being serious.
As a PS4 player, I’ve had to deal with Gajin catering to their PC players, almost as if we don’t exist. But after the update “New Power”, the game took a turn for the worse. Gajin is just money hungry adding top-tier vehicles and new premiums, all the while killing the playability of the console version of the game. What a joke. Right now I’m taking a break for War Thunder, and I’m thinking about coming back. The only reason I haven’t left altogether is the fact that I loved playing War Thunder for 4+ years and there’s not really another alternative like it.
85 days into playing this (due to lockdown) and I can honestly say I will never spend a single dollar on this mess. I play a lot of games and happily invest time & money into the ones that I enjoy. But War Thunder is the first game I've encountered that actually makes you feel like you're being punished for participating. The match-making seems seems rigged, and even even when I play with higher B.R tanks, they often feel nerfed. So I tried a little experiment. For 20 matches I played as normal, lost 19 of those matches and almost all deaths were from one shot kills. The next 20 matches, I simply sat at the spawn point and didn't move. Again lost 19 of those matches and most deaths were from enemy planes suiciding into my tank. All 40 of those matches were over within 5-6 minutes, with the winning team absolutely crushing the losers. The conclusion I drew was that it was irrelevant how well you played (if at all) as the matches were pre-determined and teams were likely divided into those who have spent money on the game versus those who haven't.
Its less those who spent money on the game but rather that one team gets stacked with players that somewhat know what they are doing and the other team gets the super scrubs that act as fish in a barrel you just have to shoot. The MM has been bogus for a few years e.g. you had a match where one team had all 7.7 tanks and the other only one 7.7, 7.3 and one 7.0, the rest was all 6.7. For that they introduced the "Only 4 players can be top tier and should clash it out between them" which created the "only uptier" MM. Even if you are toptier you are not bound to win since you can also get easily OHK if RNG decides so even if you play top notch not getting flanked etc. e.g. a shot that should 100% bounce gets through your hull or detonates on top of it and kills all your crew etc. Combine that with all the other problems the game has and lack of QoL things like a ping indicator of your teammates and enemy players (like every other shooter has it) and you get the game in its current state. Not to forget that what you see is not the same thing the enemy sees like smoke/sandstorm/bush/cloud that blocks your vision isnt there for the enemy etc.
Most people probably are so angry because they have seen what Warthunder could be, everyone has those rare matches on which everything just works out, in which gaijin for once doesn't screw you over, which is kinda sad
Gajin used to own Fighter Ace that originally was a Microsoft game. They took many ideas from that game to war thunder. Now we talking beginning of 2000s. I know because i was there.........
This is stuff I said years ago. Unfortunately, the time for the community to be constructive is LONG past. The game is not only tpo big for that at this point, but YEARS ago, when we WERE being more constructive and the well-thought essays and concise explanations of what players don't like and why weren't buried under mountains of REEE, we STILL got the same canned responses. We made our problems known and were totally ignored in favor of chasing whales. Gaijin put player intake and fleecing the newbs and those with sunk cost/spending problems over healthy player retention. Unfortunately, they don't understand that abusive relationships don't last and tend to implode one way or another sooner or later. What is better, hundreds of people spending 50 bucks a month, or THOUSANDS putting in 20 bucks a month? They chase short term gains without really thinking about the long term. Unfortunately, we also see this problem with WG's offerings (although it's become 'standard' for them and they don't totally neglect basic things in favor of new premiums and purposefully introducing vehicles with no equivalent from competing nations) and also with Armored Warfare. It in fact nearly killed Armored Warfare, because it happened before they got big enough to really weather the storm, and most of AW's early adopters were people who were former WT/WoT players who saw what was going on and went 'If you are going to go this route, we're leaving'. The one thing that saved Armored Warfare was it's having a viable PVE mode, something that no other game of it's type really has. Even then, they still seem to neglect standard PVE as much as they can, although they do seem to have decided to focus on PVE this year, which is somewhat promising. Less so is the fact that they still don't really understand player complaints about a lot of things. They come to the wrong conclusions from what players are saying. The 'PVE missile spam' thing is a perfect example of that. It's not about missiles, It's about the AI that typically has 6x more vehicles on the map than players, getting high burst damage vehicles and spawning them very frequently. The only thing that has saved WT thus far, is the lack of any real competition. The moment that pops up, WT will either sink, or learn how to do more than float there.
16:35 me: raising the screen lighting to max to see whats happening in the gameplay (listening to what youre saying of course) 18:01 throwing flashbang
I bailed on WT and moved to DCS a couple of years ago. A new plane without a sale on costs around what a top tier premium costs, for a much more immersive experience. There's also so many more mission types you can do and when you find a good group to play with it's fantastic.
i stopped playing WT 3 years ago, and i started 2013. unbalanced post-war vs wwII, the dev-server are more of a showcase than a chance to report bugs, repair costs are insane (23k for a WWII jet with only 360 bullets versus post war jets with more ammo and better performance? c'mon) and much much more.
10:19 that CB thing is me And that looking at the vehicles while watching my pc burn Is me to Last played battle was like 5months ago and last time opend WT was 1 month ago Am mostly waiting for GHPC to drop playing the public demo is giving me more fun then playing WT cap 3 point gamemodes or get Bluescreen crashed or PLed to death or just driving around in A costom battle
"Warthunder is alive and dead at the same time" Spot on. I'm an air ab player, and to be honest, it's not been much fun for years. I literally only play the game because of the guys in my squadron. Since Gaijin stopped ab squadron battles, our squadron has really struggled. If there were a serious free competitor to warthunder, I'd go and play it instantly.
Even if it was paid competitor I would play it. But really we need another game like wt. Not only too play it and annoy gajin but to create competition that will force gajin to ( I can't believe I said that) ,, repair the game,,
In the times we live, I see a pattern though... We get a competitor, they get our money/hype, they show their true face as another sterile PC/Corporate cvnt, an almost universal common thing these days. As an example, Armored Warfare did World of Tanks miles better, but of course the obvious happened and it died falling short of its potential. We get baited to start anew and the cycle starts all over with the consoomer zombies seeping in feeding the greed and compliance, nothing changes. I am getting real jaded with the way of things. I just want to go back and have an alternate reality branch off instead being a burnt wick in the face of a unfriendly night locked into the very bad end.
Hi SteelxWolf! Can't believe I didn't see your video until 7 days after the fact. As a player of War Thunder (W-T) for 8 years, I concur with all of your points. I can tell you that some of my community members have already transitioned to other games or decided to stop playing W-T frequently and put in a match or two here and there. Why? I would say it's because of the toxic community and a seemingly lack of developer engagement with its playerbase. W-T has some great potential that it can live up to, but my lord does it have so many flaws to fix beforehand. Where to start... to summarize: packet loss, high ping, poor performance, bad servers, toxic players, lack of developer engagement, bad rationale to developer decisions, ghost shells, rubber-banding, enemies disappearing in front of you, too many premium vehicles being churned out in short time, premium power-creep, little to no fixes to current bugs, old bugs from the past that arose in W-T 2.0, bad hitboxes, volumetric ammunition bugs, incorrect armour composition and modelling for numerous vehicles, the atrocious grind to top tier, economy issues, repair costs (while I understand its purpose, it's poorly implemented), BR compression, horrendous map designs, bad spawn mechanics, and more. This was all just from the top of my head. The fact that I came up with this list in a few minutes is saying something about how W-T is being managed. Suffice to say, the developers have a great deal to address and fix but we are unlikely going to see these come to fruition due to poor management from the higher ups in the company. It's a business, and their business model for a free-to-play game comes from premiums and premium time where players invest in as they play. While it is a viable model on paper, how it's implemented is causing more issues than it ever will fix. I would dare say that the upper-management within Gaijin has become too greedy and won't look past their vaults of money to put their fists down and get sh*t done. Could this happen? Possibly, but it is improbable at this time with the direction the company is going in. Another huge issue that may be the source of frustration is the lack of transparency with the developers and playerbase. While the developers say they use their formulas, algorithms and internal QA teams to ensure the best playability for its players, the issue boils down to community engagement; or lack thereof. With all of these issues being reported and posted on /r/warthunder as well as forums, it certainly establishes that there's blatant issues going on. Not to mention the reports that Gaijin is suppressing these issues to frame a picture that "all is well" sets a dangerous precedent. I say this because if these reports are true (I personally take it with a grain of salt but keep it in consideration), the issues that W-T is plagued with, there is a good chance that we won't see adequate fixes for the foreseeable future. This leads to another point: the lack of community engagement by the developers to the playerbase. A simple Q&A won't address *all* the issues but it is not enough if that's all they have made public every once in a while. The voices of W-T's playerbase are seemingly being left unheard and possibly even suppressed, further compounding the issue and frustrations of the players which in turn start spewing it in-game and outside the game. Leading to more toxicity within the community or a drop in player numbers. We can see some of them happening already, perhaps on a smaller scale at this time. Personally, I used to play W-T intensively back in the day but with the ever-growing list of issues and bugs in the game, I have started to turn towards other games. Will W-T make a come back? Improbable, but if it does, it is likely that I will return. Otherwise, we must look elsewhere and let Gaijin's cash cow perish; since that is the only thing that may expose the upper management to reality. I would love to discuss this topic in-depth with you directly as a fellow 8 year veteran of W-T. In any case, I hope you and everyone else will have a good time gaming!
Summarized it pretty well Id say. *Despite a recent video nitpicking one of my weaker spoken points* No CC really wants a council of sorts. All we and especially I have asked for is Transparency. This game is ran like the Soviet Union sometimes. Problem is if we dont know whats true. We theorize (hence this video) because we only get half truths or answers. Some of us see the BS some of us don’t, or ignore it for the sake of our free GE and Test drives to enjoy the sinking ship. Gaijin is the Kremlin, WT is the Union, CMs are the KGB (at times) and some CCs are the informants. Its a loose comparison I know and slightly exaggerated but you can draw the parallels
@@SteelxWolf Good points, and because there's a lack of communication from these developers, we can only speculate and hypothesize what's happening behind closed doors. I think a great deal of frustration can be alleviated if there's more communication between the developers and playerbase. Heck, even a acknowledgements and full answers for said frustrations can go a long way rather than maintaining radio silence. I think your analogy is pretty accurate in general, their Russian mindset could be contributing to how it feels like W-T is being run like the Soviet Union. Can definitely see the parallels in that regards. Sometimes direct competition can promote the need for change, but chances are we aren't going to see any direct competitors of this combined arms genre, particularly free to play, with this sort of in-depth attention to details. So it may be unlikely that we will see anything in the near future that would take W-T on, if at all.
@@RBerezon sadly some people interpret wanting better communication and transparency with a CC council... *cough* We have lanes of communication but they are one if three things 1. Ignored 2. Accepted but not acknowledged 3. Acknowledged but brick walled While we may have a line of communication it has many flaws that nobody is interested in working out... which causes more if a problem/shitstorm down the line
@@SteelxWolf That's true, while there are avenues for communication, it's not being utilized to its full potential as you mentioned. Particularly on those three points. You bring up another good point, all of W-T's flaws contribute to the list of issues in the game. But if no one wants to address them or is interested in fixing them, it will lead to further frustrations and ultimately the loss of players farther down the road. People can only take so much BS before they stop and say "f*ck it, moving on." To paraphrase what you said in the video, those that play W-T because they're bored should stop especially if they are experiencing all if not most of these issues in the game. I think a good way to give Gaijin a proverbial splash of cold water that is reality, is that the playerbase needs to stop purchasing all of these premiums and supporting the seemingly shady practices that Gaijin uses. I say seemingly shady because of the lack of transparency. Would it be possible to achieve the goal for change of business practices? Yes, though improbable unless the playerbase stands united demanding change by not paying for premium time or vehicles and letting the revenues dry up. Granted a lot of these points have already been mentioned to some degree in our conversations and in your videos, but I think it's important to discuss them. Even if we are preaching to the choir, it helps vent out some of the frustrations and reinforce our points of concern.
@@RBerezon ive already been accused of doing it for that sweet revenue. It aint that much. It was out of my concern and care for the game, my community, and other CCs.
Ave verum corpus, the name of the first song. You know how hard nostalgia hit me when i heard that song? It reminded my of waaay back when i installed the game 5 years ago. And it also reminded me of why i played war thunder. The majestic tiger tank, the enormous b17, the beautifull sherman and the elegant spitfire. No matter how many modern vehicles they will add, this will be my game. The ww2 game i used to play back when i was 13. I remember my first battle, where i drove with a stuart in the river in the map eastern europe. I remember the first time i got the tiger tank, good gosh i felt mighty. My first flights with the american planes. The good old times.....
Thing is who would spend their money to re buy a lot of premiums and event stuff ya know? I think that might be a reason. Or its just a monopoly kinda view of it all
From what I've researched the USS North Dakota in the US Naval tree is so messed up in terms of its gun performance and shell types which means gaijin is accidentally or intentionally screwing over US players by not providing the historically accurate shell types or the 12 inch common shell that was used on ND. I'd say gaijin is accidentally screwing over US players from what i can guess is poor research, but naval is a fairly broken gamemode anyways so in the wider span of issues i can guess this one is minor. Edit: they finally fixed it, right down to the letter. Thank you snail for putting in 1.1000% of a braincell into research Edit 2: Now the same issue exists with USS Wyoming, and Wyoming had a common shell historically.
i'm one of those people who quite WOT and WT and went to Armored Warfare. and the reason is simple, AW is easy, very easy. the grind for AW is much less painful compare to WOT and especially WOT. i have always looked for a Tank simulator game that i can do PVE on, because I hate playing with other people, and AW allows me to do that. i like playing with my friends and destroy AI, while making solid credits and exp from PVE matches. AW is that tank game which I have always waited for.

War Thunder situation is bad... But still no where near what happened to WoT on consoles... WG making jokes and mocking the players Banning players who asked for fixes Removing the bug report feature form their website Adding a artillery that shoots 4 times at once and call it "The Equalizer" when players boycotted the game because of the unbalance Now they completely remade the game with the last update, asked for feedback 96% of the players said that the game is bad and is not unplayable and WG answered with this exact words "the game is playable" They asked for feedback, and when they for feedback they literally told that the players are wrong
Nice presentation. It's funny that you bring up the problem of deciding what to tackle first. I've also played for 8 years - since the second day of open beta in fact - and in all that time I've never had serious performance issues or experienced a game-breaking bug (I play on EU, but I add RU and US to my search). Smaller performance issues and smaller bugs, sure, but I'd put balance first (I include in this the addition of tons of new vehicles, particularly higher tier ones) and monetisation second in my list in a heartbeat. That being said, all four have a place, and Gaijin only takes a little nibble out of each - without really addressing it - before moving onto something else. There are parallels with WOWS. I want to love it, but they keep shoving in barely tested overpowered crap and ignoring the feedback of CCs and supertesters.
I have been playing since 2014 and back then I was expecting a lot from this game. Now its just a mess. Biggest problems for me is map design and br style balancing. Maps are either tiny arcade city maps or big maps without protected spawn point. I would also hope to seperate ww2 from cold war. Vehicles would fight vehicles that they historically were fighting.
I spent 600+ hours on it in 2020 alone, just grinding for some top of the line jet only to get it then realise it had been powercrept so hard it was basically useless (the FGR.2) and then stock grind it which was horrible, because every game I would face MiGs that could easily match whatever I did or do it better. I stopped playing in december 2020 and I havent played since.
I know its a meme when CCs make videos like these but the atmosphere is definitely different right now. Its not the typical Gaijin bad shit. Its more like Gaijin has really gone off the deep end
In my oppinion the first thing fixed should be repair cost. Because the avarage player can only play like 1/5 vehicles they buy due to SL reasons. I think the MAX repair should be 10K.
@@TrashFixation yes
This has happened on EVE online, the code is so old now they can’t add new stuff without problems and lines of broken code.

Pretty much a TL;DR
Gaijin are focusing on monetization, not fixing the bugs or queues.
Edit:
- Gaijin are rushing the bug fix and dev teams to fix critical bugs, while they end up pumping out more useless content.

I've never spent a dime on this game, and I've been playing it for 2 years
I play it because I'm having fun, but not enough fun to give them anything more then my time
Same. Part of the problem are the players who have no respect for their wallets.
Gaijin just needs to get the Elite Dangerous Dev treatment basically players stopped pre-ordering or buying new cosmetic things until they made sure to fix bugs and make balances that were needed

There are so many games that fit that, just off the top of my head is the portfolio of bethesda and overkill.
Gaijin is like the new "Iron Curtain". Full of mystery and unknown fact. Just like their "Statistics".
Everyone always says War Thunder is "Dying", or "collapsing"
and it never ends up happening.
@@martinmethod427 It can't possibly be because it has a massive playerbase.

Man I still feel the "sitting in the hangar pondering wasted money" part :'(
You said that they need to do the fixing "in order" But something tells me that they don't know what order means
I'll be honest, they should do like R6 did,a "operation health",where all of that update time is focused on rebalance, bugfixes, and reworking
Ironically we were semi promised this for 2.0 so you can see why a lot of CCs are kinda like meh...
Although I understand what you mean, wasn't Operation Health a massive failure?

"Warthunder is alive and dead at the same time"
Spot on.
Its happening again
*Despite a recent video nitpicking one of my weaker spoken points*
No CC really wants a council of sorts.
*cough*
We have lanes of communication but they are one if three things
1. Ignored
2. Accepted but not acknowledged
3. Acknowledged but brick walled
While we may have a line of communication it has many flaws that nobody is interested in working out... which causes more if a problem/shitstorm down the line
My first flights with the american planes. The good old times.....
I dont understand how nobody has done a better copy of this game.
Thank you snail for putting in 1.1000% of a braincell into research
Edit 2: Now the same issue exists with USS Wyoming, and Wyoming had a common shell historically.

7 years player here, i'm so tired of this game that if i don't have a booster i don't play cause it's just too much boring the damn grind
After 7 years on the game, without premium, I have to agree with you men...
Says a lot when like half a dozen big CCs have made similar videos in the last few weeks
