CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The Narrator (Edward Norton) comes to the stunning realization that he and Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) are the same person.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this darkly comic drama, Edward Norton stars as a depressed young man (named in the credits only as "Narrator") who has become a small cog in the world of big business. He doesn't like his work and gets no sense of reward from it, attempting instead to drown his sorrows by putting together the "perfect" apartment. He can't sleep and feels alienated from the world at large; he's become so desperate to relate to others that he's taken to visiting support groups for patients with terminal diseases so that he'll have people to talk to. One day on a business flight, he discovers Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a charming iconoclast who sells soap. Tyler doesn't put much stock in the materialistic world, and he believes that one can learn a great deal through pain, misfortune, and chaos. Tyler cheerfully challenges his new friend to a fight. Our Narrator finds that bare-knuckle brawling makes him feel more alive than he has in years, and soon the two become friends and roommates, meeting informally to fight once a week. As more men join in, the "fight club" becomes an underground sensation, even though it's a closely guarded secret among the participants. (First rule: Don't talk about fight club. Second rule: Don't talk about fight club.) But as our Narrator and Tyler bond through violence, a strange situation becomes more complicated when Tyler becomes involved with Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), whom our Narrator became infatuated with when they were both crashing the support-group circuit. Based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, Fight Club was directed by David Fincher, who previously directed Pitt in the thriller Seven.

I envy anyone who saw this movie for the first time without knowing the twist
God I wanna experience that so much
I did. I remember watching this for the first time in 2008 not having a clue about the story and the reveal being mind blowing
i did its garbage
I did. Had no idea what this movie was even about. It was good but not too surprising because there were some things that happened earlier that made me go “uh..what?” Then when it was confirmed I was like ohhhhhh
I watched it the other day for the first time and I already knew the plot twist but that didn't make the reveal any less satisfying.

The fact he realizes he’s been Tyler Durden in a hotel room makes a lot of sense. There’s always a forced self reflection when your alone at a hotel.
Damn deep as fk
Now that you mention it: That is very, very true.
Very true

Brad Pitt was amazing for sure but I was also seriously blown away by Edward Norton. Incredible acting.

Such a true and profound quote.
Only that not all of us are as insane as the Narrator
"They don't have the courage you have to just run with it."
and thats the crazy part.
Do you think we actually just see people that aren’t there just our minds creating who we want to be and putting it in the picture of society and maybe if we are brave enough to talk to that person and embrace them we might just experience the same thing as the narrator

I remember thinking the whole following week if I was two different people ahhhaha
Honestly, it didn't hit me until Norton says the line.
I'd put Psycho's ending as the greatest twist. But this is a VERY close second.
Brad Pitt should have won an Academy Award for this role. He owned it.
Edward Norton deserved it better
Yeah Edward Norton was way better he’s so underrated

Tyler Durden - Best Movie Role Ever.
"You play a badass who leads an underground fight club and you beat the shit out of people, you fuck the lead actress, get all the best lines, and at the end you find out you're just an imagination and you're the dream man of the main protagonist. You look and fuck to perfection."
"Yeah I'll take the role."
I was always wonder why the twist ever suprised anyone its pretty damn clear literally from before Tyler is even introduced he literally flashes on screen after he thinks about who wants to be
One of the greatest plot twists out of any movie simply for how nicely it ties in the previous plot points of Fight Club.
It fits the theme of the film where it focuses on The Narrator reclaiming his authentic self. The plot of Fight Club reflects what Tyler had previously said in the film which is that "Our great war is a spiritual war." and how The Narrator is not living a truly passionate life because he is brainwashed by the society he lives in to be obsessed with material goods he doesn't need, being submissive to people who have higher authority then him, having a passive and non confrontational personality, having low confidence and compromising his true inner values just to fit in with others as so not be rejected by them which Tyler Durden sees as the opposite of the lifestyle of a developed person who lives life on his own terms.
In the movie we see The Narrator more and more adapting the lifestyle of Tyler Durden however like all things they should be a balance and even Tyler's way of living could be negative at it's extreme where he disregards order in favor of chaos and tyranny and ironically becomes the very same authority he seeked to oppose but tricks those involved with him that it's under the idea that all who work for him get to bring down the system and don't live by the rules where as in the reality of the movie with Project Mayhem it's the opposite as when working under Tyler in order to make Project Mayhem come true they start adopting rules and work in conditions which are similar to the system they were supposedly bringing down.
In this scene it's less about becoming Tyler Durden and more of The Narrator realizing he was Tyler Durden all along and toward the climax of the film instead of favouring his or Tyler's lifestyle he learns to integrate both which in turn allows him to self actualize and be true to himself and freely pursue the things he values the most.
However while some of the things I have mentioned here were mentioned in Fight Club and frequently are mentioned by others who analyse this film there's many more interpretations to be had as the text I wrote here is simply one interpretation based on the knowledge I gathered about the film.
All in all Fight Club is a masterpiece and credit to all the people who were involved in it.

I don't know if anyone else thinks of it this way, but I've always thought that Tyler's hair suddenly being shaved symbolized him turning into a villain.
During the scene where he made people wait at the front door for days and nights, he told them to shave their head.
Its basically the same for when someone joins the military and they shave their head because your hair symbolizes your own individuality.

The whole thing about having a split personality between Edward Norton and Tyler Durden is nuts yet I love it. Can't denied why this movie is awesome.

Damn dude this really spoke to me. He is right , we do do this everyday. Whether it’s a small scenario we envision ourselves in or just go balls deep into whole different personality.
This movie was the best thing for my mental health i decided to stop to pretend what society and people want me to be and just be myself i just run with my inner insanity . I dont care what other people think about me , love or hate me they dont have much meaning to me , because i like who are im are myself and dont need any validation .
This movie offers so much. Every watch illuminates new pathways to think about. Should be mandatory viewing for all young men.
The best thing about this plot twist is that nobody expects it, but then everybody cannot realize how they didn't get it the first time. It is beautifully put in
I love Pitts wardrobe in this movie.
1:06 Man, these few seconds of Brad's gesturing and delivering a total of two words deserve all the critical recognition there is just for that alone! The charisma.
I watched this with my little brother today, and his reaction to this scene was priceless. His jaw literally dropped as the plot twist unveiled itself
One interesting thing about this film is that as they progressed through production, they had Edward Norton starve himself so he looked paler and weaker, while Brad Pitt rigorously worked out and tanned himself so he looks stronger. This represents Tyler’s influence growing in the Narrator’s mind. You can especially see it in this scene-Edward Norton looks like he’s going to pass out any minute.
I appreciate that the twist was never spoiled for me. As a teenager, the movie happen to be playing on a tv during the weekend. I didnt google "fight club". I didn't ask any of my friends their opinion of the movie prior to watching it. So the twist was super cool to watch for the first time.
It has been 20 years since this masterpiece came out.
The book was amazing. Great to see the movie was too
The book was geunis
This BLEW me away when I first saw this. I was like, "WHOOOAAAA!" And then I realized we _never hear_ anyone say or address Edward's characters' name in this film. Not once. Just the alias "Cornelius" and "Rupert" from the support groups.
To all of the fellas struggling to find their true self. Be patient and don't follow trends. Have the courage to just roll with your instincts.
When you see an imaginary friend that is the reflection of your true self the badass revolutionist hero you were always destined to become to save humanity from itself of corruption and sin that's Tyler durden ladies and gentlemen.
This scene literally got me off of my chair...the most heart throbbing climax ever!!!!!!!!!
This is easily the best scene of the movie. And not just because of the reveal, but the dialogue is awesome.
I'm rewatching this daily routinely. Enjoying the scene so much.
Is there anyone in the world that's only seen this movie once???? I'm almost sure there isn't, I mean how can you just watch this once, even if you watched in theaters back in 99, you had to go back and see it again.
Exactly, it honestly took me like 5 times to really wrap my head around it and I feel like still every time I watch it I notice something new. I don't get how anybody could only watch it once
you have to watch it multiple times for a few reasons:
1. to notice the hints that were dropped about Tyler and Jack
2. for consistency: when was jack jack and when was he durden.
3. Understanding the actual role of the characters: Marla is a pretty detestable character in an anti-hero kind of way. But then you realize how she has been the emotional victim of Durden. There is no way of watching the movie again and not feel for Marla.
I watched it for the first time 2 days ago, that's how. I'll rewatch it for sure, gotta work through a lot of other classics first though.
***** Yeah, there's a lot that doesn't make much sense.
if you look carefully after the carcrash...you see ed norton climbing out of the driver side window. At first glance that seems like a mistake, unless it was done purposefully to prove that Ed was driving the whole time.
I watch this bit most weeks, seriously...

I was blown away by the brilliance of this film. Oof. SO EXCITING, FUN, THOUGHT PROVOKING AND EXCELLENT.
I would like to see more scenes when the narrator is Tyler personality, Edward Norton made them look so convincing,
If this movie had first come out this year, everyone would've hated it for this twist.
Probably not the only reason people hate twists like this is after this movie came out a lot of movies just used this sort of twist so if this movie came out today that cliche would never have existed, get it?
+Stuart McAulay Primal Fear, The Usual Suspects, The Sixth Sense, Death Trap, and Wild Things all came out before this
+Zach I never said they didn't.
+Stuart McAulay True, but you made it sound like this was the first big movie to use the plot twist, which isn't true at all.
+Zach No I was making the point that after this film became popular so many movies used the same twist it became cliche but without this movie this type of twist wouldn't have become cliche.
This scene changed my life and let my alter ego come out as a teenager and gave me courage to take chances, to look, act, and become who I wanted to become. In a good way though, not crazy domestic terrorist way….
Little by little you are letting yourself become... Tyler durden
nice save😂😂..I guess you don't want the FBI on your back
One of the greatest scenes in the cinema history.
This movie and The Sixth Sense perfected the plot twist. Both movies make terrific work of showing the viewer hints countless times and make rewatching the movie almost more enjoyable the first time round
I remember my mind getting wrecked with this reveal. I usually see twists coming a mile away, but this one caught me flatfooted. I was so shocked by this reveal that I just sat there in a daze until way after the movie ended. I just didn't get up. Sat there so long I got to see the movie again for free.
''Noo you're insane!! And we simply do not have time for this crap!''
goosebumps all over again !!!one of the best scenes in the history of Hollywood..
Seeing this movie for the first time was such a bind bender. My jaw was literally hanging.
This is definitely among the best and most startling plot twists I've ever seen on par with Memento, Psycho, The Usual Suspects, and Mulholland Drive just to name a few.
"We've just lost cabin pressure"
this is a modern day Dr Jeckyl and MrHyde
This and breaking bad.
*that moment when you let yourself become Tyler Durden*. This scene is one of the best in cinema history
seriously- 'people do it everyday, and they don't have the courage to just run with it 'quite a deep insight if you think!!
