I literally shouted out loud "Thank you Chris!" because finding that little checkbox in the Options pane was what finally worked to get my messages sent from the right account. So helpful!
Chris, I've been struggling with sending email with mail merge, nothing was working. Your tutorial on using the right email was brilliant. 3 days I've been trying to send and all I needed to do was change the default email to my outlook address from my gmail address. Now it is working like it should, and I thank you for such clear and simple instructions THANK YOU!
It’s 2024, and Microsoft couldn’t add a setting in mail merge to select which email to send from without the need of changing default settings of outlook. So stupid!
Hey thanks Chris, I was not doing that step-2 and the emails kept going from the account I didn't want to use. After doing the check box in step-2, it works perfect! Thank you.
Hi Chris, thank you so much for making these videos, they are very helpful! I have a question - I'm trying to send email to my organization from a shared inbox email. How can I do that? I did change the two settings like you showed, but it still sends out from my own email address. Would appreciate your help very much!
Thank you, Chris. I was missing that second step to check the "always send email from default account". I watched other videos & read other tutorials and they all skipped this step.
For some reason when I do this, I still get the emails sent from the original email address. When I try to compose an email normally though, it does default to that box. Could it have something to do with the way the shared boxes are set up (they are university boxes) thanks!
Thank you very much! This was exactly what I was looking for today. I wonder if it is possible to also add to this mass mail the usual mail signature that I use? Thanks
Loved your video, Chris! I subscribed and plan to share your videos with colleagues. Can you answer this question...if I followed the steps and my test email merge didn't send, do you know any common issues? I am working with our IT team to try to resolve. Maybe a security setting? Just throwing out ideas! Thanks for any suggestions!
Thank you for all your help. Is there a way to include your signature in a mail merge when using word/excel/outlook? I didn't see an obvious setting for this in options. Thanks!
Found this helpful after mail merge video- but ran into a problem that I don't have full account access to the mailboxes I have in my outlook. I am unable to switch default accounts- no alternate email comes up in the Account Settings. :( On hold with support now.
Thanks Chris. I am pushing mail merge even further and I was wondering if you knew a way to combine mail merge in Word using Dynamic Arrays in Excel, for example to send statements and each customer would have different info to display
Not possible. You could have all your fields in Excel, and filter your results in Word Mail Merge when doing the mail merge. You would end up with two or more mail merges, but that would work. You just can't do multiple merges all in the same mail merge.
Hi Chris - thanks for posting, really helpful. I've done this in the Outlook desktop app and it works, however I also want to have this set up in my Outlook web app. Is that possible as well?
The desktop add allows for multiple accounts in one app. For the web, I don't think you can make an Outlook web account your default account. I'll take a look this week and see if I can figure it out.
Hi Chris, I have a Imap email and an Microsoft exchange email in Outlook and it seems that it works only with the Microsoft Exchange email even if i sect the imap email like you described. Any ideas ?
Is it possible to send mail merge emails as an email that you have been given delegated access to (shared mailbox)? I don't have credentials to log in and create it as an "account" - it's just available in my Outlook.
Thanks for your video is really explains things - I still have a problem, if I try to change anything in outlook - file, options, mail - tick always use the default account .... I get an error 'the end date you entered occurs before the start date' - this message is displayed if i try to change anything !! please help
How can I then get the sent messages to save to the email I sent them from? It keeps saving it to my regular email (not the one I changed to be the default)?
How do you ensure that all of the recipients stay private? Do you put one email address in the “To:” field and the rest in ”CC?” I got in huge trouble on a job where I sent every address in the “To:” field. They told me it was a “violation of privacy.” Thanks!!
Hollie, if you are doing a mail merge, every receipt will get their own email. I have a video on mail merge. In general, when not doing a mail merge, you want to put people on the *BCC* line of the email. For example, if you are emailing a lot of vendors, add them to the BCC field. That way they will not know each other's email addresses.
I know this video is two years old but if anyone knows how to do this when you have to manually add a shared inbox in the from selection via "Other Email Addresses" I would be most grateful. I'm trying to mail merge from our shared mailbox but Microsoft support specifically says to add the inbox with this method - so I can't select it as the default. I'll spend a nice chunk of this evening manually sending all these and selecting that inbox and I am hoping to avoid that in the future. Great content, thanks everyone.
You would need to do the mail merge from that person's computer. I'm assuming you can view another user's inbox. If that is the case, you have to do the mail merge on their computer.
Highlighting with the red outline is from the video editing software. I edit Chris' videos and I use Camtasia. The red highlight is an annotation available in Camtasia, during the editing, you add it to the screen, resize it to the correct dimensions and it will animate like that by itself. On my channel you can find many Camtasia tutorials for all aspects of video editing. I hope this helps.
Diane, Cristian is correct. He know everything about Camtasia and his training tutorials are great. He even had getting started with Camtasia videos on his channel.
Hello, I have two different accounts in MS Outlook 365 I want to mail merge from a word file to one of the accounts. However, I made that account a default still sending from the other account which I don’t want. Can someone please help me with this?
Here is Microsoft's support article for Mac and Outlook support.microsoft.com/en-au/office/set-an-account-as-the-default-in-outlook-for-mac-1a085d36-db97-4230-9a40-c332364426e0
Great question. Mail Merge will not do attachments as is, but you can use Doug Robbings mail merge add-in. Here is a link. answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/downloading-merge-tools-addin/21a5c85b-7bd7-4b45-bc60-f3146ed94c13
Hi everybody! Is there anybody out there for which this DOES NOT WORK? I verified 10 times that 1) the account was set a default and 2) the tick box in the options is selected, but unfortunately, I am still sending from my personal (work) e-mail. However I have a shared department account, from which it is not possible to send somehow. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If you are using Outlook on the desktop, I included a screenshot, just keep adding accounts, and leave them expanded. When you close and reopen Outlook they are expanded. I tested and it worked for me. So I did not have to keep expanding all the accounts. To add more email account - File - Account Setting - Account Setting - New drive.google.com/file/d/1aLxJwo6quxH00BDoCexZPFRT6phh2jt6/view?usp=drivesdk
Not certain, but how many emails did you send? To get rid of the stuck emails here are the steps: Click SEND/RECEIVE > Work Offline In the navigation pane, click Outbox. Delete the message. Just select it and press Delete
Thanks Chris - how about sending FROM a different email address, not a different account? Different email addresses that I can send from include: 1) my direct email, 2) info@ 3) investors@ 4) employment@ etc. None of these are listed in my email accounts.
My Outlook playlist is located here ruclips.net/p/PLsYjn_fAfG43IT0H3tYs1Chqasbmv-ojY

2024 and still saving us from frustration. You're a hero for calling out 1:09 that check box. Thank you Chris!
Thank you.

This guy is a legend. I spent an embarrassing amount of time on this problem and the first 1:25 of this video solved it completely.
I'm not sure about a legend, but I love your comment. Thank you!
After an hour of trying you solved the problem in minutes. Excellent, clear presentation. THANK YOU CHRIS! I subscribed and wholeheartedly recomment.

You just save my day!! This is exactly what looking for! Thank you sir!

Woohoo! Thank you Chris!
Thank you very much! This was exactly what I was looking for today. I wonder if it is possible to also add to this mass mail the usual mail signature that I use? Thanks
Not that I know of. You could try adding it to the Word mail merge,. I can't think of a reason why that wouldn't work.
Thanks for the help!
No problem!
Thankyou sooooo much Chris !!!! You saved my ass !!!!!
Happy to help.

I don't see a way to include your signature. The only workaround I can think of is to add it to your Word doc.

We used to login using the PROFILE for the desired mailbox. Has this changed? Is this easier?

Hi Chris, what about if I want to send from a Shared Mailbox address that I am a member of?
Thank you very much
hey, do you know from what version it is possible?
Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2021, and M365 for sure.
very handy
Thank you.
I am taking a chance that you'll read this! How do I send from a delegate account? If it's not in my email accounts under account settings.
You would need to do the mail merge from that person's computer. I'm assuming you can view another user's inbox. If that is the case, you have to do the mail merge on their computer.

The emails are stuck in the Outbox and not sending. Why would that be?
Not certain, but how many emails did you send? To get rid of the stuck emails here are the steps:
Click SEND/RECEIVE > Work Offline
In the navigation pane, click Outbox.
Delete the message. Just select it and press Delete
It was 31 users. I ended up closing out Outlook and once I reopened, it sent them all.
Dude, THANK YOU! Why don't they just check the the frickin box by default! Ugh!
Thanks Chris - how about sending FROM a different email address, not a different account? Different email addresses that I can send from include: 1) my direct email, 2) info@ 3) investors@ 4) employment@ etc. None of these are listed in my email accounts.
That sounds like an email *alias* . I do not believe that is possible with mail merge.
I have access to a shared account but still can’t set it to default, cause it’s not showing in the option 🥲, what can I do?
