- My friends, a huge model such as this Karl Mortar might seem daunting to paint. Not gonna lie, it takes a while to get it all airbrushed! But the complex shapes, large surfaces, and tons of details make it a post-shading playground! I also wanted to take a different approach to the traditional German Panzer Grey, so let's see how it turned out!

you should put the mortar at one end of your display shelf and a massive crater diorama at the other end for more storytelling!
That may end up being a very long diorama 😅
Daddy Shift please read this 😩😩

He must seee
You are honestly the only channel that I can't wait for the next episode. Amazing work. Great voice over.
If you do a diorama for the Karl will you also build the accompanying Panzer 4 that each was paired with? as each Karl would need a modified panzer 4 to keep them fully stocked on ammunition and it would be an interesting historic detail that would make the model more interesting
True, but the Schlepper was supposed to drive away when the mortar was firing. That should give me a good enough excuse to just make a small scenic base around it :D
@@NightShiftScaleModels i was unaware they drove away but that may explain the absence of them from photos of the Karl!s firing
Hey mate! Great video and you are a massive inspiration to me! I have now finished my first kit, a Tamiya 1/35th T62, and am now working on my second kit! Thanks for all the tips over time. I have come here from 1/32nd diecast farm models (profile picture). Thanks for everything mon-friend 😆
Scratch building the shell loading crane, that was on a panzer 4 chassis, to go with this would be awesome in a diorama. EDIT: Never mind Trumpeter already has a Fahrgestell munitionsshlepper to go with this kit.
Dear Martin, the paintjob on the entire model was so acurate and in scale that the „sloppy camo job“ was even more reliable. No one ever would have doubt that this wasn’t the intention. Amazing job! Im glad you had even fun doing it.
We’re are you Martin?? It’s been 2 weeks!!
Hey bud. Thats the 2nd week of no videos everything OK?
Seeing your grounded and meticulous modelling and painting style on a Warhammer 40k tank kit would be really interesting to see.
I'm a wargaming modeler usually but your videos are very good I find myself watching them as soon as I see that they're posted. The paint jobs, the explanations, and the production value are all top notch.
day 1 of asking for a nightshift house tour
Edit: your figure painting videos are coming in handy. I'm working on a diorama of the Dong Ba tower in Hue 1968
I'm not sure what the point of the camouflage on the real gun was. You aren't going to make this beast blend in with the scenery.
I wish on the model you'd depicted a shell being hoisted by the crane. Probably very difficult, but would have looked so cool.
Another GREAT vid! 👍👍
Finally a video from my favorite youtube channel :)))
Jak zawsze bajer!!!!Czekam na kontynuację!
I na prawdę dzięki 😁
Very nice work, but I always freak out when I see you washing your entire and fully assembled model under tap water! You got balls man!!!
Of course, I’ll try this on my next model assembly…👍
Do you think anyone failed to spot it as a result of the camo? 🤔
I always prime my models with spray cans, i enjoy brush painting so it's better for me. Incase anyone was wondering, my recommendation is tamiya model primer, it's expensive and comes in a small spray can, but levels well and dries near-instantly.
I love your videos i mostly paint warhammer 40k but i have learned so much from your videos
Hi Martin (or anyone). Which project would be best to get order for painting, decals, pin wash (or not), highlights and stuff? I was thinking maybe KV2? I’ve tried to build for 50 years but could never constantly build. I had to give up since I was having to build in bed but even at that my arms go numb. I’ve ruined more models than completed. I have an old kit Leopard that was about 90% built. I’m sure I can clean it up for painting. I can airbrush for very short times. So I wanted to try and at least finish this model before I got rid of boxed models and stuff. But never had steps in good order. If any of you guys could suggest one of his projects to use as guide I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Hi Martin, usually I don't making request for somebody to make something on u tube but I guess there is a first time for everything. Can you please make 1/35 WT E-100 from amusing hobby. I think it would be interesting for us as well for you to just like that Thor you making now. Furthermore it would be something different from all this Tigers and Panthers.
Keep up with good work and all the best.
Thank you.
You are the best... My friend ;)
I love your pijama...
Greetings from the sunny Spain!!
I'm not 100% liking the additional camo on Thor, but I'll reserve judgement after the weathering steps.
But Uncle Night shift is a way better scale modeler than I am, so what do I know 😂
I have watched a ton of model building videos in the last few years since I started back doing kits and today was the first I have heard of putting gloss into the paint mix to keep later gloss varnishes from turning the color darker. Thanks so much for that.
Crowd-Fund a book on your techniques! Beginner/Journeyman/Expert books? :)
So, odd question: with a short-run weapon systems like this, would "Thor" be the name of the carriage, itself, or the actual gun?
You might get this question alot but what airbrush do you use?
I've just found your content and it's great, I've already learned a ton of new methods to improve my own kits.
But boy, I'm wanting an airbrush and wondering where to start with it.
your models are amazing! im buliding a matilda mk 2 from tamiya in 1/35 scale and i wish i could make my model as good as you
Have you ever built a Haunebu II? You should build a Haunebu II. I would really love to see your take on a Haunebu II. :)
"Unshaded side and postshaded"
And I couldn't tell the difference...
A side by side photo would do the trick
What's the difference between '130' and '180' airbrushes? I haven't heard those terms before
I hate painting. It's always so stressful. I like to build them, texture them, add welds and throw them in the trash.
Where do you get your airbrushed from? And which ones are they? TIA, keep up the good work!
Really just commenting to boost video. That said, build a huge diorama for it.
Very nice job. I can appreciate your hesitancy to do the Afrika color. I have always been that way about snow camouflage. I think you hit just the right mix. Well done.
The Tropentarn colours are very interesting in their use in Russia. By 1942, vehicles in full factory-applied tropical camouflage were being deployed to the northern Russian sector...in the winter! Desert camouflage in the snow. Well, at this point it was deemed that Russia was a tropical region and these camouflages weren't actually "desert" anymore.
Basically, it's always very cool to see the funky results of the Tropentarn colours used in Russia :)
as someone who doesnt know anything about making/painting models. Why use decals and not instead just make a template thing to spray white paint thru?
Превосходно, просто нет слов!!!
How the hell are those decals visible through multiple layers of paint?
I missed the point why you used fengda airbrushes instead of your Evolution?
If you ever do a modern tank, It'd be cool to see some dangly foliage camouflage like the leopards in Ukraine
Hey, I know this is in one of your diorama videos, but how do you get started on the diorama building journey?
When you’re making our biggest model I’m making my smallest model
am I the only one worried about the point when martin does the chipping for the model?
Been waiting for this one 🤩
Whenever I'm not sure of how a certain paint pattern would look on a piece - I first take a picture and do an overpaint in Photoshop to check if it'd be ok.
You should make a 1/35 schwerer gustav next
That post shading was amazing! Wonderful job!
You should next do a ft17 vs German ww1 infantry
I wish every day was upload day from night
shift :(
Fantastic piece of work Martin, looks great ❤😊
Whay is the purpose of adding the tamiya clear to the paints? :)
You should construct a model of the Schwerer Gustav.
Would like to see some white airbushed on the Thor logo to make it look more like the photo. The edges of the lettering are too sharp and look unnatural
Thank you , Martin .
🐺
Mmmmmmmmm.... New microphone. Almost got me some ASMR tingles.
WOW! I've just discovered your channel and I'm completely obsessed! Your stuff is next level 😍 I've been putting our guides for 1/72, 1/100 & 1/144 on my channel but I'm absolutely going to have to try my hand at some bigger stuff now. It's going to be a late night of bingeing ... 😆 I need to pickup my YT game too! Your format is sensational 👏
compare this to your other model dioramas when finish pls
I use Rattle Cans quite often, It is a reasonable option. Saves a ton of time.
Need a good diorama with it xD almost becoming bombarded?
*Shades of grey, that's an excellent idea and the result is very cool! How many buckets did you use for this HUGE kit? I'll made mine with camouflage, pfiuu what a work to do!*
Great video, and can you do panzer 3 miniart ausf db
Could you make a mosquito? Keep the content up!
Hey Uncle NightShift. I have a quick question. What are your top 3 diorama's/models you've made?
Fastest click I ever did...6 secs after upload. I'm as fast as you with models. 2 years later I have assembled 4 models.
My first was Phantom II- it sits and collects dust and the decals have peeled off in several places. It have some mistakes but it's mostly done.
Second was Mercedes AMG GT3- my first fully finished model...and the last xD
Later there was P-38, I glued the chassis backwards, but it is mostly painted ... without decals
First tank? T-72, some crazy stuff if you ask me. I was planning to glue one of the available versions, but in the process something touched me and I started to convert it to another. Unfinished and dusty.
Back in 2022 in december I started my first wooden model. Bismarck. Now I'm stuck at planking stage.
That's how I started first project of the year- Challenger II...first time with airbrush. I know how it works but I need to learn how to thin paints.
Cheers! 🍻 Awesome technique...
As always great content and new skills added to my Hobby. Thank you. Great inspiration within the community.
Wow wow wow wow wow
Super fantastic .......
When you started spraying 2nd color camo I cringed! However it looked great! As far as airbrush needles, most of us get too small a needle for the job. I have an Inest Iwata mini spray gun with a .6 needle for big spray jobs. Also have a 1.0 in case I need to paint 1/200 scale Yamato! And yes airbrushes and needles all the way down to.15. Usually at a.2 or.3
My best skill is re-greasing model parts.
Is it just me or does uncle’s voice sound a bit different? New mic? I’m surprised your compressor didn’t explode will post-shading. Love your work, and that looks absolutely amazing! I’m always very inspired to build what you build.
Hey Night Shift, I'm working on a BT42 and i can't find off-brand metal tracks, do you know where i can find some?
A yes my school is put under lockdown and this is how I unravel my thoughts about what happened
And still happening as of now
Curious, why add the gloss to the paint mixture, I'm thinking to make the color less opaque, but I'm guessing.
He says why in the video, by adding varnish into the paint you can prevent it from darkening when you apply varnish later
@@M_orcan Yes he does, later in the video but he does, thanks.
Looks great! Nice lesson of German grey camo! All the best for You! ;)
Looking good, I have the same model in my stash, but with the transport wagons, should be a good build, can't wait for the next episode mafriend... Cheers.
This is amazing! Weird idea but if you want a bigger project then you could do a GW Baneblade kit for 300k
first this and then the dud diorama... i see what you did there
Thor is looking really fantastic. Love your videos and always happy to see your latest work. Just used some Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 myself earlier today for the first time and I was amazed how fantastic it is for a primer! And I did have a mask on and spray booth running.
Are you posting new video today or next day?
Awesome result on this giant piece of artillery. Will look forward to the finish. Excellent work. 🏅
Uncle NS, 1/35 Apache by Snowman would be awesome for the next project!
Super glad to have another new vid to welcome my weekend. Thank you Uncle NightShift!
I guess it's time for Kondensator!
SO I'm not an armor modeler, but I love your videos -- I learn a lot when it comes to weathering and shading I can use on autos and other models. I just have one question:
At around 6:05, you swap airbrushes - where did you get those airbrush holders? I'd love to buy or 3D print them, if they're available somewhere -- they're better than my home-made ones.
Look amazing so far. Absolutely love the hammer technique for the thick decals. Great work.
Does your voice sound deeper? New mic?
Glad your compressor didn’t explode under those mammoth airbrushing sessions! I use something similar and I’ve got a bit more faith in it now!
Can i ask, what static grass applicator do you use? A “NOCH” static grass applicator cost 110€ and one on aliexpress costs only 24€ so i dont know.
I seem to remembrer on one of the builds that Uncle N. said he bough his from eBay for cheap.
@@MSAINT-bn4vj oh ok thanks, i think I have figured it out, bc the one on AliExpress looks exactly the same no brand no name it’s the same one I think.
I have this model. Very cool.
Very nice
🔵🔵🔵👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🔵🔵🔵
Excelente trabajo Martin, admirable sin duda, tengo este mismo kit y miedo me da el tamaño que tiene. Espero que los encajes sean buenos y deseando ver más de sus avances
Looks pretty damn sweet. I've been around in the US military to have had the experience of an 8" howitzer hitting near a bunker we were sheltering in. To have one of those critters go off nearby had to be unsettling to say the least.
Are you going to paint up some shells too?
Your weekend starts here!
Top quality as always ma friend...
Remember the guys in the field who were painting this were at the the bottom of the rank. So, they just like today's military were told to paint it and they did what they thought they wanted. I see this all the time when restoring military vehicles- reflective surfaces painted over, glass over spray, wheels and tires imperfectly painted etc.
Another great effort by a TRUE MASTER of this great hobby, best regards from Australia.
Hey im new to airbrushing. Any tips for how thick airbrush paint should be?
An amazing build as always!!
A suggestion here; Char 2C?
Very good model, Martin! Sometimes It seemed to me, that you are holding in hands real mortar) No, without jokes, your works are best for me across all in the internet
Wow! How beautiful the Morser turned out, I love your videos! I love model building exactly in your style! A diorama would certainly be breathtakingly realistic!
