  • Raw, intense, and powerful, Charlie Parr's brand of blues will send shivers up your spine. The Minnesota-based musician joins us in the studio to talk about his love of deep blues as a child, the inspiration of Spider John Koerner, his beloved National metal-bodied resonator and Fraulini 12-string (made by Todd Cambio), and the story behind his new album, Stumpjumper. He also delivers stirring renditions of three songs from the album. If you like old-school acoustic blues, Parr will knock you out.

There’s lots of folk-blues players today that know all the techniques and they do a good job, but this man has that special ‘thing’.

Charlie Parr's music is transcendent and trance-inducing. On long roadtrips, I'll put on one of his CDs and let it carry me down the road. He is truly incredible.

At 21:56 Charlie talks about his National NRP and the camera focuses in as he shows it... Coming up on 2 years ago, I purchased one from Chicago Music Exchange on Reverb. Unknown to me and no mention as to its heritage, it was this very guitar in this video. It was bought as an upgrade to my Republic Guitars version that I was using to learn on, specifically to Charlie Parr videos on RUclips. Small damn world.

We're lucky to have Charlie Parr. In this age of synthetic everything its a treat to have his music to enjoy. Sounds, from a time that should never be forgotten. Pure and distilled from earthy goodness, like a top quality Whiskey.

You know, people probably pass him on the street and think he's just another old man, perhaps poor, maybe a little unstable because of his disheveled look. Little do they know that they had been in the presence of a musical genius, and, a very well spoken musical genius at that.
His music is such a big part of my life, my world would be a lot grayer if it weren't for him. Love this man.
