- The other day I had Charlie Parr in the studio to talk slide. I've only had one slide lesson before, it was was from Charlie, and I've proved to be a terrible student. Hope ya'll get as much out of this slide lesson as I did!

I consider myself really lucky to have had a lot of conversations with Charlie throughout the years. I met him when I was 19 and he showed me how to play cheap wine in the back yard of a tiny bar. Even played a few shows with him!
Dude I love that!
instead of vibrato call it shake, or shake style
Bummed I’m gonna miss him by a few days in Bristol next month :( this was great though!
Dang! Hardly a sub for seeing him live but I’m so glad you got something of it!
Can’t express how much he’s influenced me. This was great! Someone needs to make a documentary out on the road with him for a week. It would be pure gold. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
They could call it "Travels with Charlie", haha. (Hoping you catch the Steinbeck reference!)
Yeah I'm so pumped he agreed to doing a "lesson". Thanks for checking this out bud!
There's ruclips.net/video/Hx_p6InB96M/видео.html
It's not an "on the road" documentary, but it's worth seeing.
Burrito cooking on the car manifold
Goddang I love this channel. ❤🎉
😊 thanks bud!!
What tuning is Charlie using?
Open G!
Great video! Really enjoyed listening to Charlie Parr chat about his slide playing.
Thanks much! Yeah there's some real golden nuggets in this one, glad folks are finding it!
I don't play guitar but am hugely inspired by Charlie. Thank you for posting these.
I love that, thanks for watching! I’ve gotta few in queue then that you’re really gonna like coming up here!!
Wow! I could listen to him all day. I loved this. Very interesting.
I know right?!
I really wish I knew the name of that guitar! He's got some great guitars!
Man I will have to ask him! Pretty sure this one’s a dobro. 14 fretter.
I have both those slide the are great
Is this the acousta slides
Which slide?
@kostringworks slide youre talking about in the beginnings
well that was fun,
i don't know how much we got there !
we can work on that,
and we can have fun !!!
Charlie is a slide inspiration.
Absolutely!
Love to see him teaching slide techniques!
And the idea of practicing music by listening to it.
Pretty sure I won’t get a response but what brand slide is Charlie using in this video, I heard a brand name but couldn’t make it out 100% and what I think I heard doesn’t come up in searches. Great video!!
Hey Matthew! I’m actually not sure either, I have the same one but it’s currently packed up. I gave Charlie a shout though and here’s what he said:
“So that’s a one-off that was made by the Acoustiglide folks - usually their slides are brass, this one’s steel. It’s not my regular slide, it fits a little tight and I prefer the bullet-nose. Usually I use either a German Silver Daddy Slide or a brass Rock Slide or if I want glass it’s Silica Sound or Diamond Bottlenecks.”
Hope that helps!
Outstanding interview and wonderful notes on his style. I’ve been a beginner for a decade or two but I just discovered that minor key trick with the slide from some other RUclips video last year and I’ve had an amazing amount of fun with that. Btw if you can’t get Charlie to do a Halloween live stream with you as Gandalf and Frodo you’re doing the world a great disservice.
Maybe best comment I’ve ever gotten haha. We’ll see what happens, thanks for saying hey!
Conduit does have a very different sound from a Socket, that is true.....
An old Danelectro will sound different from a nice Les Paul as well....
The idea that some old crappy guitar can project the feelings that the performer
intends to project are the thing that determines what is used to perform
the particular tune.....
Dooly......a Crown Vics song has a front porch ring to it,
that sometimes projects the low budget Aura that is desired.....
Absolutely.
I saw him in 2017 in NYC awesome stuff. Place was packed! He reaches everywhere!
Dude gets around!! What club was he at?
Thank you guys!
Heck yeah! Hope ya got a thing or two from it. Thanks for saying hey!
Hi Ben, nice to see you pop up here! Thanks for pointing me to this video and greetings from 'Futureman' man in The Netherlands. 😄
If only we could get Charlie to give lessons on exactly how to play some of his songs-that would be awesome.
Eddy, you introduced me to Charlie’s music so many years ago. Truly one of the best gifts I’ve ever received.
While driving, the tunes the Motors are playing seems to be an important consideration......
That is one factor that can also help avoid getting fines for Toe Tapping Tunes,
driving the accelerator deeper to the floor.....
I like the way you think Daniel!!
I love all these videos with Charlie! He seems like the kind of human I'd like to hang out with.
Thanks!! Glad ya dig em dude!!
Great video!
Thanks bud!!
Just saw him in Glasgow, wow, just wow, even got a Polaroid photo aha what a dude, mega inspiration for me on the guitar
Excellent!! Yeah, he's the best. Well I sure hope this interview can help give you a little bit of insight into his style!
This is excellent! So helpful. Thank you Charlie & Kyle!!
Nice!! Glad you think so, and I know Charlie would be stoked to hear it too. Thanks so much for checking in. And happy playing to you!
Going to see him in Brighton on Saturday. Yeeeeeettt!!!!
Niiice! Say hey for me!
This is one of the best lessons I've heard on slide
That’s awesome!! Glad ya found it!
This is AMAZING!!
Glad you think so!! Charlie’s such a good teacher, but I think he doesn’t want anyone to know.
wisdom of the ages
Yeah there’s some real gold in there! Thanks for watching!
Great!!! Real kind man!
Heck yeah! Thanks for watching!
absolutely fantastic
Thanks Liam!
might be presumptuous to ask, but I would listen to charlie parr talk about "cheap wine" for hours (either the chords, what he was listening to/thinking of when he wrote it, or just the lyrics/story in general) if you'd ever be able to make another video @@kostringworks
Playing guitar with Charlie would be a dream come true.
