- 7 Signs of Zinc Deficiency and Foods to Cure it: bit.ly/2G9QOpE
Today I’m going to share with you the five warning signs that you’re zinc deficient. About 75% of people in the world are deficient, so being deficient in zinc is very common.
The 5 warning signs you’re zinc deficient:
1.) If you get sick a lot or have immune system issues
2.) Have leaky gut (draxe.com/7-sig...)
3.) If you struggle with diarrhea or IBS
4.) Thinning hair
5.) Inflammatory skin issues like acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis
One of the biggest factors in causing zinc deficiency is high levels of emotional stress. The second most common cause of zinc deficiency is over-exercise. The third most common reason your zinc deficient is if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. Lastly, if you’re older, you may tend to have malabsorption, which causes a zinc deficiency.
In order to get more zinc in your diet, you need to consume more zinc-rich foods. The top 5 zinc-rich foods are pumpkin seeds, oysters, grass-fed beef, sprouted nuts and seeds, and peas. Additionally, probiotics are a key supplement to take when zinc deficient because it can help your overall absorption of nutrients.

Top zinc-rich foods (healthier sources first):
1.) Pumpkin Seeds
2.) Squash Seeds
3.) Sesame Seeds
4.) Flaxseeds
5.) Chia Seeds
6.) Spinach
7.) Asparagus
8.) Peas
9.) Cashews
10.) Mung Beans
11.) Peanuts
12.) Mushrooms (shiitake, white, crimini, etc.)
13.) Lentils
14.) Garbanzo Beans
15.) Quinoa
16.) Toasted Wheat Germ
17.) Oats
18.) Tofu
19.) Shrimp
20.) Scallops
21.) Oysters
Yogurt (from Grass-Fed Cows)
22.) Organic Turkey
23.) Grass-Fed Beef
24.) Grass-Fed Lamb
25.) Cheese (from Grass-Fed Cows)
26.) Chocolate (probably the dark stuff)
Plus a LOT of other veggies. Veggies always have lots of good things in them. But, although the calorie-nutrient ratio is AMAZING for veggies, they don't really have a ton of calories. SO, it is probably unwise to rely mainly on veggies for your zinc... (Unless you eat like a spinach-crazed Popeye...)
Benjamin Gessel 👍👍👍
Thank you
Sesame seeds are phytoestrogens they tend to break you out
Some of those are high in arginine, leading to an imbalance of that and lysine, which makes a cold sore more likely.
Benjamin Gessel
Can the Pumpkin seeds be roasted snd salted ?
1. Get sick often
2. leaky gut
3. Diahrea - IBS
4. Thinning hair
5. Inflammatory Skin issue

I found out my acne was caused by zinc deficiency. It was like a damn miracle when my dermatologist told me to take a zinc supplement with food. My skin nodule acne cleared up in a matter or days. I wish I'd known this years ago.
Congratulations :) Adult acne is super frustrating. I'm glad you eventually discovered the cure.
I just bought a zinc supplement, but for being sick all the time since I heard that someone tried the same thing , I also suffer from nodulistic acne, so ill see how it helps from now on!
K. Jevon .D lmk if it works:)
I got cystic acne... I’m taking DIM... i wanna try Zinc

+Dr. Josh Axe Dear Dr.Axe, I cannot digest proteins. I feel a kind of sore/ache in my joints and wrists. If I drink lemon juice I would get better. Does it mean I am Zinc deficient? Thanks

I began taking a zinc supplement when Covid hit. After a lifetime(53 years) of dealing with bumpy skin on the front of my thighs and the back of my upper arms, my skin is totally smooth! A totally unexpected benefit. I only realized it was the reason for my suddenly smooth skin when I ran out of the zinc for a couple weeks and the rough skin came back. I will take it for the rest of my life.
Tried Dr iyaremoses on RUclips herbal medication and it worked for men am free from hirsutism no side effects..
Only you have to know that if you do take zink, you need to also supplement COPPER as zink depletes you of copper, but take them separately
I started taking a zinc supplement recently (15 mg as well as several other trace minerals), and the difference in my energy levels was astounding. So this video has been truly helpful for me and I will continue to take zinc to maintain energy levels, as well as iodine to aid metabolism and thyroid function. But I have to say zinc is one the best supplements I've added into my diet, and I'm eating a lot more seafood now too.
I have taken ginger for 1 year now. It contains zinc... during the COVID Era.. I stay healthy. THANK
@@happinessupto2566 as an asian, ginger is like my everyday snack. but still i have zinc dificiency
@@syifaazzahrah How do you eat ginger as a snack? Are you talking about the ginger candy or do you eat straight ginger?
Dr Alex, I sure do appreciate your information on Zinc dificiency very much helpful Sincere Thank You
I was sick for years! Couldn't figure out what it was. I started taking zinc and literally fixed every problem I had.
A Crazy Canuck what issues did you have?
@@ThePlaystationGoon I started getting sick over and over. I never usually got sick. Weakness. Long recovery. No motivation. Insomnia. Always tired. Zero sex drive. It all started after I began doing long distance running and also stopped eating red meat and seeds. My workouts went from lasting 3 hours to barely making it an hour. My strenght dropped by 50%. One week after taking zinc. 50MG a day, everything returned to normal.. Actually I feel better than I've ever felt in my life. No joke..
A Crazy Canuck thanks for the reply, I feel deficient so I might get this soon
@Satisfying Slime DIY Two kinds. The zinc oretate and spring valley kind from walmart. The walmart one seems to work better tbh
Satisfying Slime DIY I take 50mg a day. I’m 200lbs
Take zinc with magnesium at the same time, your body can absorb them better when taken together.
Jeff Lebowski the magnesium I got was magnesium Glycinate. But it has magnesium stereate in it and I’m
Told that doesn’t help absorb ANY vitamins 😩😩😩
WebMD says not to take those two together.
You need copper with zinc
Copper
@@oeu3669 Wouldn't worry too much about the stereate if its an insignificant amount. It;s probably chelated. I take mag glycinate. No issues with absorption. I can feel the difference.
Dr. Axe thank you so much for addressing the emotional component of zinc deficiency. I really think that the emotional aspect needs to be included as a vital facet of physical health, indeed, unresolved emotional issues can wreak havoc on the gut.
Dr. Axe, Love the information! Love you for sharing with us! Keep it coming, because we need the info!
AAAH!!! I've been suffering from thinning hair, stress from moving and started college again, along with sadly, three deaths in the family!! This makes SO much sense, thank you Dr. Axe!!🙏🏼🙏🏼

Also get your iron levels checked out because deficiency in iron, causes hair loss, among other symptoms.
Glad i saw this video! I am a triathlete during my training i developed a rash dyshydrotic eczema it was painful, was prescribed with clobetasol and prednisone. Since ive been taking zinc my rash is manageable, no pain, i stopped taking prednisone. Your video made me confident of taking zinc consistently everyday
This is the best information i've come across on Zinc deficiency. I subscribe.
Seems like Vit. D and zinc deficiency symptoms are not that different
I started zinc and iron daily about 18 months ago and I haven't had so much as a sniffle since.
Zinc pills? how many mgs pls?
They'll sell 10-15mg tablets at any pharmacy. One a day.
.
Every reputable website tells me the zinc RDA for men is 9.5gm to 11gm, I don't know where you got "50gm" from. It's not paracetamol.
.
Those symptoms are shared with so many other deficiencies and diseases.
yeah he seems to be a complete crack
The body needs alot of things to keep it at 100
true, Dr. Joel Wallach states we need at least 90 nutrients each day
First world problems

What about zinc supplements? What should we look for? Thanks for the video
which type of Zinc I could use for hair loss ?
thank you for the video
I believe there is a zinc supplement for hair nails and skin ....
Biotin for hair loss.

How are you doing now?
chew on a zinc stick
Don't give up hope, it's time to get that handled
the body doesnt store zinc so you must ingest it daily.
zinc supplements are perfect, effective and cheap.
Yeah they are stay away from walmart there vitamins are from China!!
Vita fusion is sold in Walmart and it’s not made in China
@@shawnhickman1412 The problem with supplements is that they can be made in one country like the USA but use ingredients that come from China.
This is a blatant lie. Of course your body stores zinc, if it didn't you would not survive more than a few days because zinc is required in all your cells' genetic replication mechanisms. With that being said, due to the modern diet, many people become zinc deficient over long periods of time, such as months or years. So it is important to take supplements if you aren't regularly eating zinc-containing foods.
@@therealestg9 excess zinc cannot be stored in the body
What kind of zinc do we take? There seems to be many different kinds. Thank you.
I take Zinc picolinate 50 mg but I guess 50 mg is too much for me as it gives me insomnia. What about you?. Have you tried any zinc yet?
I did 4 years of graduation. --> Caused stress--> and hair loss.( Low zinc).
I want to say thank you and GOD Bless you. Millions of people especially poor people are dying every day and there doctors aren't helping them to get better. It takes a strong individual to want to inform their patients and treat them holistically. Love. peace and prosperity to you.

Hello! I was wondering if you can talk about eczema more. Thank you for your awesome videos!
Love Doctor Axe so much. He explains things so well. Great videos every time. I breastfed for almost 4 years straight and my emotional stress has been high (being a mother is pretty emotionally stressful). I think I need some zinc
He’s so compassionate about helping others and education us on making healthy choices daily. Get Zinc from ancient nutrition. This is Dr. actions business I get everything from him is absolutely the best products that you will ever take
Thank you Dr. Axe! What dosage do you recommend for someone with thinning hair and acne? Any particular type or brand?
Hello Dr Axe how much zinc should I take and can I use a inexpensive brand??
Thanks Doctor, for clear, and simple explanation.
WOW!!! Dr Axe this helped a lot. Thanks for keeping us updated with great information.
I caught severe chicken pox at 37, had mild Candida and Naturopath said I had almost no zinc. Repairing your gut is a long road and takes time. No gluten, red meat, dairy, coffee, alcohol. After 6 wks on this diet still having symptoms. The worst thing is lack of energy.
vitamin B 12 complex fenugreek seeds te
Very informative video. Shocked that 75% of people are zinc deficient but think we’d agree probably 99% of people are stressed!
I had zinc deficiency and the most obvious signs that stood out for me was poor sense of taste and smell and night blindness.
ScarlettDuchess woah same as me!!!
same I lost my sense of smell.
Wow that just rang a bell. 4 years ago I started working out really vigorously pretty much all day because I was young at the time (14) and I thought I would get ripped. Instead my hair fell out and I became lethargic, depressed, and confused 24/7 I also lost about 90% of my ability to smell. People around me fart as a joke and I’m never able to smell it despite everyone else in the room being able to.
@@spaceballs2108 well that sucked I'm sure. Here you are trying to be cool and rip only to get feeling like crap with your hair falling out. So how did you figure things out then?

Is it okay to take Zinc and magnesium supplements? I wonder if it is too much

What is the best type of zinc for acne?
Dr. Axe, appreciate all the great info you put into your videos. We all learn a bunch of helpful stuff.
My symptom was Beau's lines.
Hemp seeds
Pumpkin seeds can be blended into a dressing/soup base or coffegrinded and rolled into balls with a little water(salty ones are even tastier than ones with honey)
I have been distilled water bone broth fasting and taking vitamins and micro and macro nutrients during the fasting. I try to go five days but that’s pretty difficult. I fast for three days then I eat for two I blossom is 30 pounds in less than three weeks I feel absolutely fantastic. I started at 278 pounds and I’m going to get down to 180

This is pretty amazing. My mom went through a period of high negative stress, and her face became super dry and peeling. I suggested she take zinc supplements and now her skin is doing much better! I wonder whether that truly helped her.
Zinc Picolinate vs L-otizinc Monomethionine
Wich one is a better choice ?
I think any discussion on taking zinc supplements should include balancing it out with copper as well.
I had a huge belief that I needed to up my Zinc, and didn't always keep up the copper and felt the affect, but didn't know it was from the lack of copper. Such as feeling cold, probably due to poor red blood cell production.🙂👍🏼
Those two I'm blessed not to have thinning hair & diarrea,I'm grateful to God for each & every blessing especially the little things of every day life.
Concise and to the point. Loved this to the point video that didn't go on and on and leave you guessing why and what you just watched and then try and sell you something in the end.
Dr Axe, what to look for in a zinc supplement? Please let me know.
What great information. Great video, nice and simple.
Hello Dr Axe if I had to take zinc orally how much do you recommend thanks for the video 👍🏽
Leaky gut and hairloss. I have that.a so far when i starded taking zinc supplements my diarrhea and indigestion went away within 3 days. Thanks for the info
Thank you for this useful information as usual.
Thank you Dr Josh. I am definitely zinc deficient and will be taking your advice.
It's interesting, I'm a surgeon and stress is my middle name. I was routinely talking several supplements, one being Zinc until I ran out and forgot to purchase. I'm battling with my thyroid (it runs in the family) along with digestive issues, since it's not my specialty I never really thought much about it. Guess I need to make this a high priority! Thanks!
Just take some bigfarma drug

What a cool idea - to share the signs of being deficient in zinc. I definitely feel like I was deficient in zinc a few months back and it all changed when I started to take a good multivitamin.
Thanks for all your youtube videos, Dr. Axe. VERY USEFUL
Your vids have helped me tremendously!!! We thank you for all of the valuable information. I have changed my diet and added supplements due to hair loss. A dermatologist told me I have cicatricial alopecia after doing a biopsy and wanted me to take plaquinil...needless to say, I didn't take that medicine and decided to make several changes on my own. I knew inflammation was involved due to the way my scalp felt. I added zinc after watching another vid you posted as well as vitamin C. Please let me know if there is anything else you recommend-
update?

What's the best zinc supplements and type of zinc?
I heard loss of taste and smell is also a warning sign ..both my senior parents had that
Excellent format … state your points early and clearly.
When I was young I don't have any certain allergies aside from vinegar.
I frequently get sick, have diarrhea every weekends and even skin problems, everyday I also lose hair strands, turned out I also suffer severe emotional stress...
Thanks for informing me! I'll now consume foods rich in zinc!

Thank you for sharing Dr. Axe!! I've been diagnosed with insulin resistance and I also suffer from GERD!! I have hair thinning, acne/keratosis pilaris on my arms, visceral abdomen fat, and lately shortness of breath and white horizontal lines and ridges on my nails!! Going to see my doctor and get bloodwork ASAP!!
Can you update what the doctor recommended?
@Aida F Could you share what you found out from seeing your doctor.
You’re super clear explaining things doc ! Liked and subscribe!
I had all 5 of these warning signs. Gastritis/ulcers, excema & butterfly rash on cheeks. Sick all the time & then was diagnosed with a systemic/auto immune disorder in 2008.
Then I seen a natural-pathic dr & she said that I was anemic, even though the medical drs testing showed I wasn't. But she said that my levels showed that I was on the low end of the scale & said that their scale levels aren't the same as medical doctors. They don't wait till levels are really low, to start fixing the problem like medical doctors do.
Then she helped to me to get better, by taking nutritional shakes (green & berry smoothies), taking zinc tablets ,probiotics, with vit b 12 injections, & clean eating (eating no processed foods. Only foods that had a mother, ie. animal meats (in whole form, not nuggets, etc) & plants & fish & NO BREAD/PASTA & no sugar (especially fake sugars). Only natural occurring sugars was ok. & to reduce my soy level consumption (I am lactose intolerant). (& glutamine supplement?I think that's what its called, can't remember.) & no consumption of margarine. Only real butter mixed with olive oil 1/2 & 1/2.
It was a real struggle at first to let go of cake, donuts (1 of my favorite foods) & toast, etc. then I winded up healing, getting stronger & much more energy & all symptoms disappeared. Also lost 60lbs! :) & was even able to get off my stomach acid medications (I don't even know why I was put on that, even though they took out my gall bladder which had very little stones, but had choleostasis-pronounced something like that).
Then in 2011, I had to follow up with a medical doctor for physical, etc & was told that I was actually harming myself by following this strict diet and how I was missing very important key nutrients and I could cause myself to suffer heart complications.
So shocked & confused, I stopped seeing my natural dr (because I felt angry) & all treatments & went back to my old diet & I now I am worse than I was before.
I now suffer from these mouth sores (biopsied & its called Lichen Planus), which some days bleed really badly. Occasionally these really bad purple sores on the roof of my mouth (they say it could be a symptom of lupus or low iron levels), oh, which I am now severely anemic & my inflammation levels are through the roof. Excema that comes & goes, as well as the butterfly rash on my cheeks, that comes & goes, as well as all my previous symptons, joint pain, fatigue/exhaustion, and severe bone pain, feeling sick all the time. Diverticulosis & I also get edema. I also gained back all my 60lbs & more. Weighing now 270lbs!
So now I am tired of all the medications that I have to take & how I have to take them for the rest of my life & all the frequent medical testing/scans, specialists, etc, that I actually feel betrayed by the medical doctors, because I feel so strongly that something is causing this. So for the last 2 years I have tried to locate my natural pathic dr (she moved) and I have been unable to & I have felt so defeated (I guess that's how she must have felt?).
Watching your video's, reading your website stuff, has been re-educating & reminding me, of what she taught me. Also teaching me how to make my own lotions, etc. that is so important to my healing journey & for that, I thank you. I am just beginning. This is another beginning for me, except for this time, I feel like it is so much harder to quit eating junk. Its driving me crazy. It was so much easier to quit smoking than to quit eating bad foods.
But anyways I hope to be able to get myself on the road to recovery soon & fast & I thank you for all the work that you do.
Cheers :)
Ps I am bummed out that I missed the essential oil video gathering that was sent out in emails. I hope that you will do it again! :)
