You are a good dude. Thank you for the video.
Lotta peeps!! Thank you for trekking through the thousands!
Where oh where is Eddie the K? (There he is!)
@@j.kliban9156 Hi Kliban!
It was a thrill to hear you and Russ on stage. This show you played on Sunday with Lyle was one of the best concerts of my life and I've been going to them since '66 when my mom took me to see The Association at Melodyland in Anaheim. This video is a great souvenir of our time at Stern Grove with you.
Hi Leland. I watched almost all the show from Scotland. A great great show with brilliance from all on stage. 😊.
Thank you Lee ✋🏻 happy Sunday ✋🏻
Love the Sequoia and Redwoods! 💕 Thank you so very much for this walk-through Stern Grove, San Francisco July 9, 2023. . .
Yes, there are a few redwoods in Stern Grove, but many more eucalyptus. This is a beautiful venue on the western edge of San Francisco and a great place to see ANY type of music. Their summer series will include anything from country swing to symphonic, to funk and jazz.
Great videos! I feel like I'm there with you. Thanks for sharing.
Usually we walk with you and see various buildings but no feel for what the crowd may look like. Today, it's a beautiful crowd in a gorgeous natural site. Thanks for two views❤️👍❤️👍
Leland, you are a world treasure.✌️❤
Caught the last part of the live stream. Excellent show!!! 😎
Thanks for the walk through LEE!!!!
Probably the most insane concert setting so far.
That looked great! Music unites people!
This is the coolest video ever.
What a vibe! Another amazing venue - thanks, Lee!
Geeze, the most amazing bass guitarist is walking past all of those people. Looks like Woodstock all over again, Lee. Must give you a nostalgic feeling. I must say, it's so nice seeing people gathering like this again. Have a great show at the gig.
🎸🎶😎🪵🌳
Love ya, Lee! ❤
I think it's brilliant. In a crowd of thousands, perhaps 5 people vocally acknowledged him but if you put Lee in a room of the most famous musicians, my bet is everyone knows him, respects him and wants to talk to him. To me, to be famous only to the famous and still get to live the life of an artist and performer devoid of fanatical chatter is the best life I can imagine.
@@wizardmix so true. 😎🎸🎶
I was surprised by the jackets and hats.... This is July! Living in the tropics, you get out of touch. Thanks for the walk through.
The new phone has magnificent abilities to focus and provide depth of field.
It has a more wide angle and depth of field places most everything in focus
The mics on your camera provide a really good stereo spread, as you pan the shot around the venue.
Thanks for bringing us all along for the ride. Really appreciated !!
Currrently watching you guys playing on CBS Bay Area LIVE. What a great sound !!
This brings me back to the time San Francisco was truly the place to be. Born and Raised 1953, yes I was there when and then......Thanks for the memories LeLand.
Come on back. Times have changed but a lot is the same
@@hardpan59 not affordable for us any longer.....
What a cool perspective. Thanks Leland.
Nobody recognizes Lee because he takes his beard off to walk incognito.
😂
@@Gina-ly5bp But in all seriousness, if you know ANYTHING about music how do you not recognize Leland Sklar? Maybe they did and were just California Cool about it!
lol. love it
@@yodajazzcat
It is The Bay Area and Leland is among a special Band that look like him and part of a bigger Tribe. 😉
Currently I can take off my beard because it's on a t-shirt. 😜
I don't know why peopledon't seem to know who you are and how important your are to american music. I knew about you 35 yrs ago. I would definitely want talk to you Lee
If nothing else you have tremendous variety of venues. You can’t get bored! ✌️
I love how Lee just walks around in the crowd and keeps a low profile. Absolutely brilliant! Once again, thank you for sharing!!!
Thanks for the great show today and I love that you have a mic for the hand claps.
Good Crowd , love these setups.
We need more places like this to try to bring more folks together to share a common heartbeat.
Those people have no idea the BEST BASS GUITARIST in history is walking right by them!!
WHERE???
@@lelandsklar6363 HA! Humble as ever which is probably why you're still on it. In this crowd of thousands perhaps 5 people vocally acknowledged you. That said, in a room of the most worthy people in this business, I'm willing to bet there isn't a one who doesn't know your name and I'll raise that most come and talk to you without you ever having to introduce yourself to them.
A few of them did - they greeted Lee by name as he walked by.
I love Stern Grove. I forgot you guys were playing. Wish I remembered so I could reserve tickets. I’ll be there next month for Buddy Guy.
KPIX has a story interviewing Lyle about the concert today.
Finally, someone recognized you.
Gig in a Forest! ❤
Hi Leland, once again, thank you so much for the venue tour, it's so cool to see the different places you and the band are playing. Like one of the previous comments said, I can't believe more people didn't recognize you. The one gentleman did say "Hey man, how ya doing? I love you!" I woulda been gently interrupting your filming and kindly asking for your autograph and a selfie!!! Hope you all had a great show today.
I'm sure it's the life of a session player, but I think it's really cool that as famous as you are, you can still walk through a crowd and be recognize by a few fans and not mobbed as though you are a headliner. I know I'd prefer your life to someone like Harry Stiles or Adele. You have a level of privacy and that is great.
What do you think Mr Sklar , Woodstock without the mud ? Absolutely fascinating footage you've given us once more . You are the gift that keeps on giving !
Lee: you walked right past me and I did not get to share my Leland hoodie!!! Great show. Thanks
Hi Lee, knew you'd love this event & vibe! Glad you had your jacket on. You been working out ? Looking good, sounding good, feeling good!, brother! Keep it up! Peace & ❤ Thank you!
Thank you, I loved the walk through and it brought back memories of a time long gone and still present.
The mentioned of ‘dogs’ had me remembering my Whippet we had from ’65-’77 and all the free running dogs that would meet in Golden Gate Park.
The Whippet in the lead of a close following pack would, like a Lotus, make a sharp corner with 10 or more others chasing could gain another 5 yards from being caught. The following pack like a big bob-tail truck could not match it.
After a short period of time and the Whippet tired, I would have to rescue him from the now agitated pack that was in pursuit. Whippets being very short haired would be cut up easily by annoyed canines. The Whippet being such developed runners have a heart and lungs twice the size of canines their size. ☮
Such memories! I bet you can picture it all in your memory. I lived near 9th Ave and the park in the late ‘80’s/early 90’s. Saw lots and lots of dogs. Sometimes I’d go drive down near 19th to go run. Boy do I miss it.
@@saxMD2008
We lived from ’66 to ’78 on 2nd Ave and Anza and I would walk almost everyday to Golden Gate Park and on other days would walk across the Golden Gate Bridge to the to The Marin Headlands National Park. In January would watch from mid-span on the Golden Gate Bridge whales migrating.
As an elder, memories keep you company.
“I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realises an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don't have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.”
― Virginia Woolf
The Whippet still runs
Virginia was right
@@artemisXsidecross great quote….a keeper. I would have loved loved loved to see those whales on one of my many walks across the bridge. I guess I wasn’t “cooked” enough because while you were there, I was a little kid pretending to be a Beatle in the living room of our small house in northwest NJ. My time in SF included an interesting experience having to do with “ the earth moving under our feet “ to the tune of 7.2 on the Richter scale. LOL remind me to tell you that one someday.
⚓️ Thanks Lee 😎
What a lovely place. What a beautiful crowd. Once again, thank you for sharing, Master.
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
Nice crowd, thanks for sharing.
Love Stern Grove!! My son and Monophonics have played it twice. It’s such a wonderful vibe!
It's wild seeing everyone dressed in jackets, watching this in 90 degree weather in NC
Lol, San Francisco doesn't have summer.

So far this year we are still waiting for 'Spring' and after a wet cold 'Winter'.

I like that one and new to me 😉
This evening's news said So Cal would be getting temps up to 118 within days. Hopefully they are talking Death Valley.
wow that's great, thanku, enjoy!
Loving these!!! Making a list to visit these venues, they should be paying u!!
It must be a great luxury to have it both ways. You're one of the most recorded bass players alive today with a resume most people wouldn't believe, you're an A-List player live and your appearance is far from discreet. All this and you can walk through a crowd of thousands where maybe half a dozen people vocally acknowledge you. That said, if you're in a room full of famous musicians or people who know their shit, probably everyone wants to talk to you. I think that's a life well lived.
So weird seeing folks in coats in July! This looks like a very nice laid back locale for a show. Thanks for the walk-through Leland!
Our simmers are mild winters in San Francisco. I don't think we've had more than a few days of 70 degrees this year!
I turn my heat on some nights
Tought so too but it seems to be pretty cold in San Francisco atm. Meanwhile Europe is burning in 96 °F, I thought we had California Weather, but I was pretty wrong ^^
@@armignac This is typical weather for July in San Francisco. What is California Weather?
Break out the doobies, it's gonna be a good day! Peace and Love...and doobies!.
Totally am getting Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival vibe ... must be that San Francisco feeling!
Now THAT would be a natural place for Lyle to play!!

Yeah! Take 2 🎉😊
wow mountains of food ! looks like a nice party ! thank you !!!! keep on trucking !
So cool to see all the generations gathered together just to have fun. A real “happening” feel. It has a “Grateful
Dead vibe”. When you’re doing a festival gig like this, do you still have to wear suits? I’m thinking “yes”…….so you’ll be WAY overdressed! 😉
Looks to be on the cool side given what the crowd is wearing. The suits will work well.
What a brilliant atmosphere.
Mark Twain once asserted "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."

I just got out of my pool here in Texas and began sweating before I could dry off, go figure?

With those roasted feet from running barefoot on hot summer days in Glendale when you were a kid. I told that to a friend in Phx and he said he did the same, By days end the bottom of his feet were black from the asphalt. Surprised you guys don't have scars on your soles.

Hey there Lee and everyone! It's like no one recognizes celebrity you. Is that a treat or what?
I would always fancy to be 'like birds in the sky that leave no tracks'
Hi Winston.
@@Mark_Brooks Hey Mark!
I couldn't even image just seeing Leland casually walking past.
Always surprised at how many folks don't recognize Lee..he is a iconic figure in the music world..I guess if ya know you know....
More iconic to players than casual listeners I suppose.
Love this....exciting crowd
😎 This looks like a future road trip, what a beautiful place to watch music! Stern Grove 🎶🚘✌️
I think you would like it 👍
Think I read you took vid of the Saban. Where can one find it?

Looks like so much fun. I didn’t know that it got that cold in July in San Francisco.
Hey Lee! Amazing video, wow! 🙂
Wow❣️❤😊
woow.. what a unique place.
Boy, Id sure recognize lee if I saw him
So happy to have seen the live stream and see all the folks in action..... Who writes the charts? Who is the band's arranger?
Charles Rose, the trombone player does the horn charts. The rest is up to us!
Amazing that Leland can walk thru there with only a few folks saying anything to him!!! Unless he had a mask on or some such…
Wow what an awesome venue
How are people not noticing the man behind the camera? 😅😅 Leland was happy, then saw dogs and was extra happy. 😅
You just passed up a Hot Chicken Sandwich! Go back, go back...
I have little idea how tours are set-up. Logistics first, what's available, some history and that it's a collaborative effort. But do they sometimes think,"And now for something completely different."? Do you know? Thanks❤️👍❤️👍
KPIX now has a 10:30 minute video of Lyle and the band performing.
They play the whole concert, live on tv 📺 this year
It can be very cold in SF in July! Learned that the hard way. 😂

And WHITE BIRD playing background music?!! Er, "It's A Beautiful Day" rather... she has a distinctive violin... Leland was getting started in this early '70s festivals, right? And now, here he is again, running amok with a camera.
Big smile. I still have that one.
Reminds me when Daddy Cool reunited in 2005 after 30 years to raise money for the Boxing Day Tsunami. There were old skinny blokes covered in Jail tattoos, dressed in blue singlets and rolling Drum ciggies. Staring at all the people all 30,000 of then like they had just arrived from Mars.
I doubt many had been out since the break up in 75.
Ross Wilson was roaming the crowd,, up the back, taking it all in, incognito. No one recognised him but I did. It was such a fun thing to have seen. If one bloke recognised him it was all over he wouldnt be able to move. But alone he creeped taking it all in.
Was a great Gig at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl. Richard Clapton closed it then it was over the the road to watch Cher. What a day in 2005 that was.
Only a bassplayer can look like normal person and walk through a crowd like that 😂👌🎶
I think it's great that they were able to get Austin Powers to MC.
If the music is free & no admission charge how the organisers pay for the bands? It looks great & I would love to go. I hope the gig goes well. I am sure it will as the people are looking superb.
There are free concerts in Marina del Rey, too. Either the government or private donors pay. I've seen Rickie Lee Jones, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Jon Batiste, and others. Yesterday there was a free 80s fest in downtown LA with the Spin Doctors, Dramarama, Flock of Seagulls and more. It's a summer thing.
