The difference in sales were due to horsepower and cost. Back in the 80's 4 cylinder cars were garbage! So Camaro's and mustang's rule the car scene. In the 90's the Camaro had to compete with the import scene. Which were clearly a lot cheaper to buy and Insured. And performance stepped up royally.

I have a 95 Z28 I like the car but, It is hard to park in tight places. When you sit in the drivers seat you cannot see the front bumper or fenders and big blind spots behind. Hard to judge how far to pull up before hitting curb etc. On the hyway going fast the same seating position gives you a a feeling of being a jet airplane fighter jet. Reprogram the computer to remove the 108 mph fuel shutoff and you will see what I mean. I have made a few easy performance mods and my Gen4 probably has 150 more horsepower than a stock Gen3.

The reason that 3rd gens sold better over their life span than the 4th gen is demographics. All the market research over the years by car makers showed that by the time the 90’s settled in, the country’s tastes were changing and two door cars became less popular and were replaced in popularity by SUVs and p/u trucks. Most people are not car guys and the two door cars have limitations in practicality vs a SUV, 4 door, or p/u. Having owned a total of 7 Camaros over the years across the generations, I would rank the 1st gen cars as the most user friendly for people space, and the 4th gen and 3rd gen a tie for practicality and usefulness. Without a doubt, the 4th gen is built better in terms of fitment and quality as new cars. And we know the LS cars were beasts during their day. I have only owned one Camaro brand new, which I special ordered, a 84 Z28 with the 5.0 HO and 5 spd with 4 wheel disc brakes. I only kept it two years due to the despicable 80s build quality. Make no mistake, all gen Camaros are good looking. Good job, and content. Keep up the good work.

Older generations of a model tend to be less refined but more durable. Newer get sleek, more MPG, lighter, cleaner emissions to comply with Government mandates (CAFE), more options, and expensive options of the previous might be standard of the new model. Sometimes new buyers and return customers are given surveys- a simple form to fill out and mail in- of likes & dislikes of the vehicles' various features. They mail them in, tally up the results- and the artists & engineers set to work on the next model. They also go by Dealer sales and repairs. Hey, man- hope you feel better soon!

In 2007, I was losing my great work from home job, so I began looking for a good car to go to work in. After years on the road with practical vehicles to haul my stuff from job to job (vans), I wanted a fun car. I began checking out 3rd Gen and 4th Gen Camaros everywhere within 150 miles of me. The majority of 3rd Gen had cheap plastic interiors coming apart from age. Performance was so-so. They looked dated, with the wedge shape design that was spawned in automotive design in the '70s. If I found one if very good shape and low miles so that they were decent condition, the price was crazy.
On the 4th Gen I found this. V6 models tend to require rebuilding the engines at 125,000 miles. V6 performance was ho hum at best. Mileage was maybe one or two mpg greater than the V8. They rode better than the 3rd Gen. They handled better than the 3rd Gen. Braking was incredible over the 3rd Gen. The LT1 was fast, but the LS1 was light years ahead. While I liked the LT1 body front end better than the LS1 front end, the performance of the LS1 made it no question.
While I never drove the 3rd Gen in the rain, I put thousands on in the rain in the 4th Gen. I imagine the 3rd Gen also had issues, as the '80s Mustangs did, too, and all those cars were relatively short cars with more power than weight. I'd recommend putting in some serious hours into autocrossing any so you get used to how they handle at the limits as I met more people who told me they used to have one. "Why did you get rid of it?" "Wrecked it." And many of those were wrecking in the rain.
The one really bad thing on the 4th Gen is that cheap plastic dash top that warps and then shatters.
I sold my '98 LS1 with 256,000 miles on it, and it would still haul butt down the road.

Are you kidding me the body styling of the 93-97 Camaro is more admired by car enthusiasts today then ever before. The prices for them have gone way up and will continue as these become super rare to find in great condition like mine 😎.

@@kevinrodriguez9701 Agree, while I love every Camaro, the 3rd gen had 3 times the amount produced as the 4th...as well as 4th gens getting "hot-rodded" and crashed/thrashed and destroyed due to them being a Corvette in sheep's clothing at value prices teens and 20s could afford used in the early and mid 2000s. Very few good condition 4th gen Z28s still exist. The 4th gen is very polarizing, you either love it or hate it. Over time I think the 4th gen will become the most rare....I would say 5th and 6th gen...but being of the muscle car revival and final swan song era of gasoline, they will live on and be loved many decades from now. Get a nice low mileage z28 with either t-tops or convertible top, with a manual transmission, and keep it forever.

The third gens are easier to work on under the hood because the engine isn't pushed back like on the 4th
gens .plus third gen v8 motors don't run off that
    shitty optispark distributor. I
miss the hell out of my 91
    Camaro RS v8.the only issue
I had with third gens was the
    the leaky t tops.

Ill take the 4th gen in every aspect over the 3rd gen all day.
I have owned a 1986 Camaro Iroc Z28 and a 2001 Camaro SS, and let me tell you that 3rd gen wouldn't hold a candle against the 4th gen.
Ask the drag racers which gen model they prefer, they always go for the 4th gen. Now if want to compare the 4th gens the 93 to 97 vs 98 to 2002? The 98 to 2002 wins hands down no comparison. They are better looking better engines/transmission and better suspension etc etc.
You must've been brain washed to like the 3rd gen over the 4th gen or following a fad 😂😂😂

  • @UsefulEntertainment

The 3rd gen wins hands down. Ohh but their slower, yeah so drop a 350 in it, lt1 or a 383. They just look iconic. The 4th gen is so 90s generic looking and have to have one of the most garbage looking interiors. The interiors look like bloated puffy plastic resembling a little tykes play toy. Over all the 4th gens look like a sports car Saturn wouldve built, major downgrade in the styling department. Completely agree on the 90s Chryslers, ive been saying thats what they looked like since the late 90s when the Sebring was all over the streets, id go hey look a fwd camaro lol. Another thing is chevy should've at least had the common courtesy to put a removable dog house in the 4th gen like a van just so you could work on the thing.

The forth gen looked awesome when it came out in '93, but when they changed the headlights in the late 90s it looked too much like a Dodge Intrepid.

@@Whitetiger187 as much as i hate 4th gens, ill agree that if i got one for free, id prefer to have an early one. but they still look like a 3rd gen was transformed into a car sized dildo.

3rd gen's were dogs. Slow as shit.. Ive owed a 3rd gen and i still have my 94Z28. That said i can safely say I have a qualified opinion..The 4th cars are better in nearly every way.. 4th gens with the LT1's ( not a bad motor at all. If you say it ks your only proving your ignorance) and then the almighty LS1's. Iraq's had the highly flawed
Tune port injection or TPI. And that was only on the later models and the IROCs dress them came with that shitty 305 that put out like 110 horsepower so forget about it 4th gen rule 3rd gen rock was a decent car but nowhere near as good as Z28 of the 4th gen

  • @paulburkey2
    @paulburkey2 2 года назад

gen 4 looks like a catfish gen 3 is king of the road I don't think your Gen 4 has the ls1 it's the LT1 that gen 3 is an RS with z28 hood and badging or they pulled the Z28 engine and installed the RS TBI 5.0 they did make the IROC first year with the older block and valve covers with TPI or carb but that's not what you have yours is the 170HP 255 LB/FT torque TBI engine you can tell by the center bolt valve covers, air cleaner as well as the single belt, hose and AC pump placement looks just like my 91 RS 5 speed unger the hood
