Spider Man: No Way Home DESTROYS The M-She-U | The Last Great Superhero Film?

  • Warning SPOILERS Spider-Man: No Way Home is CRUSHING real box office records and DESTROYING M-She-U fan narratives. This is a rare thing these days. A collective escapist experience en masse. Just in time for Fandom, Hollywood and Sony. Who is in the driver seat now. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in the next Sony/Disney Spider-Man negotiations.
    Spider-Man: No Way Home may have some flaws, but the good far outweighs the bad and I would go so far to say the last half is brilliant and more importantly fun. It may also be the last great superhero film.

      Yeah, even though no way home was lots of fun to look at and all BUT it was still just a super big disappointment for big time Spider-Man readers like myself who not only had a hard time continuing to enjoy the comics after the ill-begotten "one more day"DEBACLE but we're also willing to overlook the ABSOLUTE butchering of EVERY single Spidey supporting character in Homecoming. Honestly to me the only way the Spidey movies can redeem themselves is if it's revealed in SPIDER¬MAN🕸️4...FRIENDLY🕸️NEIGHBORHOOD Uncle Ben has actually been alive the whole time and only out of the picture because he's been in another state or in Witness Protection for something having to do with Peter's parents being spies working with Nick Fury. Or living in Portland cuz he and "Aunt Marissa To-May"had a bitter break up due to the fact that she was caught up in a promiscuous left-leaning LGBT protest Queen scene which drove them apart, but they were still technically married. Aunt May's Funeral would be the catalyst that brought him back to New York. Which would eventually lead to him meeting Peter Parker for the first time. Plus a special guest appearance by The Punisher and Fantastic Four!

    I was ok with Aunt Tomei delivering the Power/Responsibility line. A big part of the Parker/Spiderman dichotomy is his difficulty balancing his two lives. The one thing that Maguire's and Garfield's Parkers experienced that Holland's hasn't is the loss of someone *that* close to him. Yes, he experienced the loss of Stark, but they were technically colleagues and Stark sacrificed himself, it wasn't Holland's fault.
    The deaths of Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy, however, were the direct result of Maguire's and Garfield's actions as Spiderman. The death of Aunt Tomei was definitely an earned death writing-wise, and it was necessary for the Holland Spiderman to evolve.
    He doesn't have an Uncle Ben to deliver the line, and I'm actually glad that Aunt Tomei did and they didn't make Maguire or someone else do it. He has to hear it from someone whom he holds absolutely dear, and Aunt Tomei is the only person who fits that bill (besides Zendaya, but no way she'd get to deliver the line).

    • @somebody5702
      @somebody5702 2 года назад +8

      I know a lot of people complain they gave Uncle Bens line to her, but I put that down as a fault of the previous movies never establishing him. It'd just be too contrived for him to show up in this movie just to say the line, and like you said she's someone he's had the longest connection with since civil war. So to me, it is a little like m-she-u writing, but largely because they didn't have a choice going in.
      Another thing is that the way she said it is the way Stan Lee said it in the original comic as a narration. That struck me as interesting because if I wanted to do a replacement of old Ben, I wouldn't have changed the line to what it was in a silver age comic that only the oldest and nerdiest among us would even know.

    • @theatog
      @theatog 2 года назад +14

      While I generally do enjoy Gary calling M-She-U out on all the "overt shoving of feminism down our throats", I have to give this one to Aunt May/Sony. Besides all of what @bommie and @Some Body said, it fitted Aunt May's character. It wasn't just Peter's idea to save the invaders, it was ALSO Aunt May's. It made sense at the time when she said it and it didn't came out of nowhere.
      I also loved that it did subvert my expectation. I absolutely did not expect that line to be delievered then and there. Hit me like a truck. I still remembered the first two delievery of that line in the first two trilogy. I remembered vividly how hard I rolled my eyes, how it felt so cliche and corny. But I had to concede to let it pass because that was signature to Spider Man. And I also distinctly remembered when I came out of Home coming, feeling relieved that they didn't have to shoehorn that cliche, yet signature, line in the movie. The way they handle it in this movie was smooth AF. It's also such a breath of fresh air when they didn't spend too much time to build it up. It came quick and sudden. It wasn't delievered as a dying message (and take away from the emotional death scene). It just was different in all the good ways imo.

It's like the one constant across the multiverse that Peter needs to suffer that moment if tragedy before understanding what it means to be Spider-Man. Also, while Strange is very powerful in the mirror dimension, it’s not his nor does he rule it or have dominion over it. It's Infinity War/Endgame level of quality. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers wrote a masterpiece and Director Jon Watts extracted everything each actor could give. Tobey is The Spiderman for me and I was afraid they'd Jake Skywalker him, but his Spidey was treated with respect.
    He is not drinking green milk after leaving his life behind. His Spidey is still with MJ in his universe and who knows! Maybe there is a Spidey boy somewhere.
    I never liked Andrew's Spidey, but man! They did the character justice in this. It goes to show how bad his movies were in that "Hollywood will Bat-Nolanarize everything" phase. Zenday was actually good in this.
    I disagree with your assessment of Aunt May x the speech in this case. It was not M-She-U. She was Peter's only guardian, she was around his ups and downs since Homecoming and she earned the right to say it in my book. It was not a strange woman coming out of nowhere to say it.

    Spiderman- No Way Home
    IMDB trivia:
    "The phrase "With great power comes great responsibility" has become strongly associated with Spider-Man's origins thanks to Sam Raimi's well adapted origin film based around this theme. However, Aunt May's similar line in this film is not a variation or deviation of the original phrase, or of Raimi's version. Rather, Raimi's version is the variation. May's line: "With great power there must also come great responsibility" is actually the original phrase printed in the very first Spider-Man comic issue. Similarly, fans may assume that having Aunt May speak this line is a deviation of the original canon where Uncle Ben is presumed to utter the phrase. However, in the original Spider-Man comic the phrase was not said by Uncle Ben or any character at all, rather it was part of the narrator's closing commentary of the first comic book issue."

    The headliners of this film was Andrew’s SM and Willem Dafoe‘s Green Goblin. But overall they hit the bullseye on this and they absolutely destroyed “the message”. Yes but they were so small to the point you wouldn’t know. In other words this is an actual film with an actual story with actual characters.
      We are not here to wipe out the SHWs or the Woke Cult(because they are doing that themselves already and we are just showing them that way they will see their mistakes) and SMNWH is proof of that. It is not perfect but I would take this then Shang-Chi or The Eternals.

    • @JustTooDamnHonest
      @JustTooDamnHonest 2 года назад +1

      The reason why people watched Venom is because of the CGI for Venom himself(which compared to Tobey’s SM3) was a hella lot better in Venom. But the characters and story was cheap(let’s face it without Spider-Man, Venom would be a forgotten and not looked at as much).
      While I praise Sony for a job well done with this film I do not praised them for movies like venom or venom two let there be carnage or Morbius because those heroes have no purpose or villains(Venom had Carnage but Morbius has no one as a villain because he is what you call a “helper hero” one that helps out other heroes with their problems). Morbius will not do well because of those facts.

    For how they cured everyone, it was explained with one line from Holland, something like "Our tech is better here." I believe was the point that the universe Holland and the current MCU is in, is far more advanced than the Toby or Andrew universe. They also remark on the magic, I think Andrew even says something like "you have magic here too?" So that might imply magic exists in Andrew's universe as well, which means we could see him come back as the new MCU's Spiderman, considering Holland wants out and there is a ton of gash as the main heroes. I think that would be best case scenario, or they break the multiverse even further with Into-Spider-Verse part 2. I'm convinced it will be brought into the MCU. They could maybe bring Miles in that way. Anyways, great video, glad I discovered this channel this week. Show us 1/4 Black!

      Didn't Andrew's Spiderman also say that he cured Lizard once before with basically the same tech? They still had the fix Electro disk from before, and they didn't actually need to cure Sandman, he wasn't going to die and would have just gone to see his kid if put back. Sandman was oddly the most and least motivated villain in the movie. He has no issue with Spiderman, isn't about to die, and just wants to see his kid. Keeping his powers actually makes that easier for him.

    Hey, I just watched your video. I wanted to say that I liked what they did with aunt May and "responsibility message". Belive me I'm not a fan of woke culture, but please don't look for woke elements everywhere possible. Technically speaking: relationship between Peter and May was build across 3 spider-man movies. It was shown that she's very important to Peter. Moment of her death had way more emotional impact than any previous uncle Ben death I've seen. Mostly because I knew uncle Ben for let's say~10 movie minutes and I had to believe that he was important to main hero only beacause it was said so, also that hero was sad so "there you go audience. Tragic backstory - checked. Let's swing now." When May died I was genuinenly shocked, sad, even cried a bit with Holland. Also hate towards Goblin grew in me, and I could buy Spidey's desire to kill him.
    If studio decided to throw in a new "uncle Ben" male-mentor persona, just so it would be man who can die in front of Peter and say to him lesson about power and rosponsibility, it would be as stupid operation, as all of that what you describe MShiU does. Tony Stark could deliver that line, but he was pretty speachless at the time of his death. Also idk if Tony would belive in such words to say it to Peter. Also that would take away the light from Tony and give it to Spidey, so I'm not surprised that didn't happen.
    For me May's death didn't feel as woke message, and I wanted to express that.
    Keep up the good work :)

    I cried tears of pure joy seeing all three Spiderman on screen together, but especially when Andrew's Spidey caught MJ - people actually gasped out loud and fist pumped the air and I'd forgotten what it felt like to emote out loud in a crowd at a super hero film. Hands down the best moment in the film. Wilem Dafoe was excellent, as always. My only complaint would be that Marvel have a habit of cracking a joke after a serious moment and they did it a lot on this film. Other than that, I loved seeing Tobey, Andrew and Tom together.

      @@Ariescz It makes more sense today. I think nowadays, a newspaper printing false stories like that could very easily be sued. For instance, a father whose child was killed by the Green Goblin and the paper said Spider-Man did it, but another bystander happened to catch some of the attacks, including that one, on video. That father could use the video to take the paper to court for lying about his son's murder.
      It was better to make the Bugle into InfoWars where they abuse freedom of speech and are rarely prosecuted. A newspaper has to be very careful these days, otherwise they lose credibility. A conspiracy theory radio is always followed by a cult.

The chemistry between spidermen characters and balance in advancing who they had became without exposition tangents was brilliant.
