Regarding Jimin’s comment about not being able to be honest, I could be wrong but I interpreted that as them not being able to tell us everything because of the media and general public twisting their words (which is what happened with this dinner, ironically). Like if they could individually communicate with us outside of the public eye, they would be able to be more open.

I agree. Part of this is they only want to show their good happy sides to fans. Also they can’t disclose details of their professional lives like contracts or disclose their personal lives- romances, non- celebrity friends and family because they don’t want to expose them to public comments.

True that and there are some things they don’t even have to tell us and they shouldn’t have have to. Just cuz they r public figures doesn’t mean we need to know everything about their decision making. They could also have signed a non disclosure contracts about some of the things that are going on so they can’t even say either way.

Also, I am 60 year old ARMY and so happy to have found BTS when Covid hit in March 2020. I am shy to send comments but wanted to get the courage to say that like many people, BTS has encouraged me to love myself. I have lost weight and gained a closer bond with my two daughters who I introduced to BTS. We even saw them in Los Amgeles and Las Vegas. I am like a proud mom and am happy for them to take this break and gain new life experience. We will continue to support them all in this new chapter of life. Borahae and Apo Bangpo!

I read a comment on Twitter on the days shortly after the live, and it really hit me. "Omelas" was mentioned, how their situation now is as described in Omelas. In case there are newer armies that haven't gotten the chance to deep dive into Spring Day yet, their MV has references to the novel "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas," where an utopian society maintains its happiness upon the suffering of 1 child. When the citizens are old enough, they were told of the truth, and some choose to stay in the Omelas utopia, while some others choose to leave, bc they cannot live with the fact that their happy life is built upon another's suffering.
So to me, that's what BTS has done for ARMY all these years. So many people saved by BTS or just simple things as them being a happy moment in their day. They gladly did that for ARMY, bc they appreciated and acknowledged that it's the ARMY that showed them love and support to help them grow and elevate these 10 year. Namjoon said to use BTS to love yourselves, which he offered sincerely. Now, it's ARMYs turn to offer BTS support and "blessing" (them even having to ask is another discussion) to HELP them this time. As much as we'll miss group music (but really excited for their solo adventure too!), they need our love and patience to let them have a chance to not be stuck in Omelas. They want to perform sincerely for ARMY, that's why if they feel not themselves in recent years, they can no longer be sincere and truthful to ARMY, and that was what they never wanted to be and why it hurts them so much. Hence the time off, relive their lives and explore their own selves. Like Namjoon said that whatever they wanted to say is already in the song lyrics, "The Best is Yet to Come" (and other lines of course, the whole song, damn it!). And what ARMY is best at is our endurance and persistence and patience in our love and support to BTS and its members, so NO SWEAT! We're still being well fed by other contents while we wait for them to comeback to us with the best versions of themselves that they want to be. Actually, view this Chapter 2 as what it is, a chapter. No one reads a book or watches a movie only for it's 1st chapter, bc then the story won't ever progress!
起承轉結 in storytelling, I can't believe their 9 years has only been chapter 1! They will have so many more chapters, they all said over the years they want to be BTS for a long time, even becoming Bangtan Papa or Bangtan Grandpa (for those that fear disbandment), and ARMYs want to be there with them and witness their every chapter! We're in it for life! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

When this first aired the translations for "taking a break" was "hiatus". The baggage that word has in relation to bands is synonymist with breaking up. Media headlines and stories were BTS were breaking up, as well as social platforms. There were a few other minor mis-translations that did not help. These translations were revised the following day. There are still people who believe they are done as a group. (A few hours after this aired DKDKTV went live and help English speaking ARMY with what was actually said.)
My reaction while watching this was like when my kids left home. I was sad that the relationship that I had had with them was over, but I was excited for what new things they would be doing and knew that my relationship would be different than before. But when Joonie cried, my mother's heart was ripped out of my chest seeing the pain that he felt

Yoongi and Namjoon said in different ways.. In the beginning we had something we wanted to say, songs, talk about etc..now just drained and got nothing but like Jin said, feeling like a machine.. They need to find, be themselves ..To actually Live again as individuals like in their Beginning....The big Elephant in the room is the Mandatory Military Service..... I've never seen any of them talk about it.. Jin has to go in December.. With that said, It's kinda a given that they will be doing solo projects, Living.. then be back Together as a Whole, with Lots of things to write and sing about. These are just My Thoughts, and I support Them OT7 on Their Chapter 2 🤗💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Roscoe, you asked, "What has changed?" re: BTS being given the freedom to write about their stories, etc. My guess is that BTS became one of their country's biggest moneymakers and they became international diplomats.
Even looking at the fallout after this dinner was released, a few things that happened: Korea's national pension fund was investing in HYBE stock and lost millions of dollars. The Korean Singers Association drafted a letter asking BTS to reconsider their decision.
When BTS started, they were 'nobodies'. Ever since 2018-2019, when I presume they were routing that World Tour, BTS had become something far beyond what Bang PD would have ever dreamed it could have become.
So if you look at their music around that time, the Japanese single "Stay Gold" had zero members credited with songwriting or producing. Next song? Dynamite. Zero member credits. Then they wrote their album about the pandemic, and after that it was Butter (with a bunch of songwriters including only RM) and Permission to Dance (no member credits). Their exhaustion is evident in that pattern alone compared with the rest of their discography.

In the past, Idols who have broken the "perfect" image by having a real life (examples: dating/ getting engaged-married- becoming a parent, etc) were vilified by Korean netizens. It's gotten better in recent years but part of an Idol is putting the Idol ideal above all else. BigHit is & always has been a different company & the guys have been protected from some of the most toxic problems within the system. But they still had standards to follow. And they themselves time & again made the choice to put BTS first. Tae was 💯 right that 90% of ARMY got it right away & was supportive...but the fear was understandable. Soulcrushing, but understandable.
I just wanted to hug them all & tell them it was going to be ok. 💜

Also, at least one giant unspoken issue is their military service & public expectations around that.
The last president & his administration were left-leaning and VERY pro-Bangtan, and there seemed to be a movement of public opinion toward exempting BTS. Now, there's a new, right-leaning government & public opinion seems to have shifted back against exemptions - the expectation seems to be that members will begin their service.
I have a lot of thoughts about the enormity of social pressure in S. Korea that I won't go into here, but suffice to say that even publicly mentioning the issue of their military service is frowned upon, which only adds to the sense of tension & things unspoken in this FESTA dinner.

I will support these seven wonderful souls in all their endeavors. I believe in their talent. I believe in their contributions to the world. I believe in the goodness of their hearts. I believe in them as group. For each and every one of the seven, I believe in them. They will always remind me that truly good people still exist out there who use their own struggles to be a light to others. The least I can do is to be a light to them and walk the flowered path with them as they spread that light be it as individuals or as a team. Like Maknae said Apo Bangpo and always.

So much to unpack in this video that it's hard to know where to start (and to keep myself from writing a novel). Early in the video Yoongi said something like "if we'd made a different choice we would have been back by now"...to me that felt like they were going to do a one year world tour after ON and then maybe go to the military together? If so they might be ending their service soon. I can't help but think they might have chosen to go all together as soon as the first lockdowns started if they knew how long this pandemic would last...they have mentioned that they thought it would be over in a couple of months (none of us had a clue either). You asked about what has changed that they find it harder to write lyrics now even though they have artistic freedom. I believe it is a combination of burnout from so many years doing this and having such packed schedules that there is just no time to focus on that. You can only write based on your experiences and for many years almost all of their experiences have revolved around "being BTS". You mentioned the pressure you feel in being a YT reactor, having to choose your words carefully etc. I'm sorry you feel that way and yes it is a sad reality that people are always ready to jump on the "judgemental bandwagon". As you said, it is multiplied by millions of people in their case, but they are also under a microscope almost 24/7. They can't slip up and be human ever. They have also sacrificed so much of their privacy (so much of their lives is on film) for the sake of feeding us content and always being engaged with the fandom. It makes me feel guilty as a fan. They sacrificed their youth for the fans. The fact that they do this makes us the most loyal fandom out there because we feel we know them as people, but at what personal cost to them? That "no cheering" concert was only because they had a spike in Covid at the time....not the norm for Korea. One thing to keep in mind, when most of us watched this live the subtitles were different (they have been corrected for your viewing). When Yoongi said "we are taking a temporary break now" it originally said "we are on hiatus now". The media latched on to that one line and splashed headlines everywhere that BTS was breaking up. BigHit stock even plummeted by 25% costing millions of dollars in losses (I'm sure someone got fired for that original mistranslation). I cried the first time I saw this because I was sad for us as fans, but I've cried every time I've watched it since because it hurt to see the pain they have been carrying around. I am super excited now for them and everything they will bring us in their own time and hopefully with much less pressure on them. I think Hobi hit the nail on the head when he talked about it being a "healthy plan" for them. I feel grateful that they sat down and explained their thought process to us. This news could have easily have been released as a press release from Hybe, but BTS always tries to stay connected to ARMY. Thanks for reacting #90percent

They've given us so much of their souls, talent and time that they deserve the world in return 🥺 most of us were sad not because them stepping away from group music but because members were sad and we all want to see them happy and thriving. Namjoon breaking down like that hit me like a ton of bricks, I was bawling ngl.
Anyway, every true Army will be supporting all seven members and waiting patiently. They deserve their rest.
As for "we can't be honest" it's about withholding information and putting on a brave face to keep the fans from being sad.

This was the hardest conversation they have ever had to have with ARMY. The first 24 hours after the video was an emotional roller coaster. Once we got out of the initial shock and panic-about-the-unknown, the response I’ve seen from ARMY has been UNIVERSALLY in support of the guys going in whatever direction feels right to them. Even if some of us have some lingering personal sadness about this, I have only seen empathy, trust, and love pour from ARMY. Maybe that just means my twitter tl is well curated, but it doesn’t feel that way. I’m sure a lot of non-ARMY fans freaked out. A lot of investors REALLY freaked out. But it feels like ARMY did exactly what they asked us to: take their words as they are and know they are sincere. If we love them, how could we do anything else?

  • @rabotnemrac

Not gonna lie, I cried a lot when I watched this. I'd been crying for some time even before this dinner because I knew this was coming. The moment they announced this comeback as a compilation album with only 3 new songs, I started to prepare for a goodbye of some sort. I know this is (probably) not a permanent split, but it's still the end of an era. And on top of that, it's heartwrenching to see how hard it was for them to make this decision. Seeing Namjoon cry still haunts me...
I do absolutely understand why they need this, though. Being heartbroken doesn't mean I'm not happy for them at the same time. I've been noticing a shift in their energy for quite a while, and I've always thought about how difficult it must be to live as BTS, the biggest group in the world; I'm glad they'll get to finally focus on themselves as individuals. They've given us their youth for an entire decade, after all. Whatever they do, I just hope they're as happy as they made us all this time.

"They've given us their youth" 🥺 Yes. And it's way past time for them to explore and discover themselves on their own. They have always, always said that they are forever. My daughter is j hope's age. She has traveled other countries on her own and with friends, moved from apartment to apartment several times, had her heart broken, found a boyfriend who turned out to be best friend and support AFTER they broke up, spent 4 years in college preparing for a career field she found out she hated but through this experience, discovered one she bsolutely loves and is passionate about. She couldn't have done that if she had stayed home and followed other peoples expectations. Namjoon, Jin, Yoongi, Hobi, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook all deserve to live outside of anyone else's expectations. All these years, they've sung about following your dreams, being yourself, defying expectations, and loving yourself. They need time to do all that. The relationship between BTS and ARMY has always been somewhat symbiotic. It hurt to see them so afraid of how we, ARMY would react. I can't speak for anyone else but me, and I'm not going anywhere. ANPO 💜 BANGPO

Be prepared this will be longish
I was feeling sick after hearing this and I admit I cried. BTS has become such an integral part of my life that I didn’t know what I would do. I felt like the rig had been yanked out from under my feet
But then I started to think again. They have been there for army for 9 official years in this rarified atmosphere where literally everything is done for them but where they have had no chance of meeting “normal” people. If you look at some of their older material, whenever they were around girls not part of the staff, they would almost panic. Bon voyage season 1 was as close as they got to being normal 20 somethings. And I’m sure, with Jin and Suga being close to 30, and RM and Hobi at 28 they probably want to go out and maybe have some sort of a social life. Experience what they couldn’t while working so much. Look at V the other day when he left for Paris. He looked so happy and free! So ya I get that they want to live as people rather than idols.
Secondly I think they hit the wall creatively. The lyrics in black swan seem particularly apropos now looking back and apparently after their big tour they were going to break then. But then dynamite and butter… I can understand RM when he says he’s not sure what kind of group they are now. They’re too old for teen angst now but too young for anything else. Ya they need to reinvent themselves ☹️
Lastly the military enlistment thing. Jin will have to go by December I’d this year and Suga by March next year. And coincidentally by the time they are all done their contract will be over. What then? Since they are figuratively the goose with the golden egg, I’m sure Hybe will bend over backwards to keep them happy but will the world still want them in 2027? I know I will.
I think I’m just rambling now so time to stop. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Apo Bangpo!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

    • @toni5431

From what I read about military enlistment and existing employment contracts, the contract gets suspended whilst a person is serving in military. So when they leave military they would still have 18 months/2 years left on their Hybe contract. (Or however long they had when they enlisted) :)

They usually do some sort of interview on their anniversary at each Festa. A few years ago they had a dinner, sometimes they sit at a table and talk, one time they were in what look like an attic. It’s a time for them to chat about the last years since debut. Sometimes they’re given questions to answer on cards. This time was much more open and that’s what they mean by unscripted.

Ok, I haven’t done this before so bare with me! This dinner was so hard to watch and I came away from it feeling very emotional. I hated seeing them so upset and scared of what people will think of them. I can’t wait to see what they do and who they become, they have had such a huge impact on my life in the last 4 years, how can anyone not love them and want the best for them. I admit I did have a few selfish moments feeling gloomy about the hole they may leave, but that has been more of a wake up call about MY life. So, I shall try to find the courage to speak up more and join in, because I am really really looking forward to watching all the episodes of Run with you Roscoe, and, ironically, with seven people putting out content, I think Army will still be kept busy. I may even need to buy a new shelf with potentially 7 new albums coming! Much love💜

I very much agree with everything you said, in particular that "We should want that for them". We should. We should want them to have this time to grow, experience, love - whatever they need. I feel glad that they are in a strong enough position with in their company that they can choose that.
This is such a strong contrast to the situation when other bands in the west just explode and fracture, never able to come back together. This is not that. You can still feel the genuine affection they have together. They are like family but like any siblings they want the opportunity to grow up and be independent. It doesn't mean they are not still family. I feel very confidant that I will see another BTS comeback even though it may take a few years.
I'm really looking forward to seeing them develop both personally and musically. No matter what happens, I will always be grateful that I found BTS and I will always cherish their music and their message.

I remember bangpd was talking about RM being the first member and music is built around RM and if RM is having issues finding himself so are the members. They want to experience life and take time to breathe. They aren’t getting that and they are burnt out. They need a break to refocus and come back together better then ever.

I found, and still find, this exhausting to watch, because of my own emotions, but also because of all of their emotions too. I always knew that their lives were sacrificed for their career - for us, but this took it all to another level. so I know they have to do this. They have poured everything into their music and now have nothing left to give.
But they want to go so that they can come back - and creativity demands that they do this. Hobi put it very well - they will come back with greater synergy than ever.
I think they must feel sad but also, yes, relieved, but also, they must feel a bit scared. Everything for them is going to be different, and no one, not even them, knows what that will mean. It was incredibly brave of them to show us this raw - they could have delegated this to Hybe, but that's not Bangtan.
That's why I will support them whatever they need to do - I hope they make new lives, relationships, marriages and fatherhood - knowing they have all said they want this. They don't need to ask our permission for any of that.
Thank you for your thoughts on this situation.

    To discuss the festa dinner:
After a lot of self reflection i have realised that I cried and was super sad initially after hearing the terms like 'hiatus', 'we might not be able to this together for a long time', 'we can't tell u everything, so if you take our words for as it is and that will be great', 'hobi's been through a lot', 'i felt sinned to think about myself', 'i haven't eaten properly for four days', 'we need your blessing'.. because of
    A) I'm selfish and have put them at a pedestal where their friendship and staying together gives feeling of all's well in the world and now its not... That's the unnecessary pressure we armies put on them.. the fact that they are still thinking of going along with Run BTS, to me it seems like an additional burden on them. They definitely deserve a clean break
    2. When or If will I see them all together performing live.. hybe's and their reassurance felt like a bandaid on open bleeding wound for a pessimist like me... It took some time to come around and be vulnerable enough to trust and understand and take their words as it is
    3. This came on later, heck, if not for covid, i might not have ever found them, so there's sense of gratitude..
    4. Lastly, their pain - too much for an empath to see a family member crying
My honest thoughts, am not gonna ride the high horse... Their pain came second to mine, and that's just idk human and inhumane at the same time.. so, I'm glad that they took matters in their own hands...In this process, they once again taught me something new- the importance of listening yourself and take the road travelled less

What’s changed? For me, after ON and map of the soul, they had direction and control of their music and message. Then the pandemic happened and they released Dynamite and dynamite became so so very big internationally that it blew up their career even bigger than they were prepared for. And because they got so big in America especially and Grammy became a real possibility, they started to chase western validation ( I don’t know how else to put it simply). All the talk shows and content and interviews. Then the music became more western friendly. Many fans felt their three English songs, although great, weren’t 100% “them”. And it wasn’t. Added to that they became koreas ambassadors of everything. The weight of carrying the country and music industry pushed them further from”their” music. So I feel what they say when they say they lost themselves. They became more than musical artist and had no time to continue developing music. Now they are diplomats and this and that. Add that to they spent their teens to 20s doing this. No time to develop as a human.
This is just my opinion on what changed and led up to them being burnt out. It’s totally Black Swan

And now that music industry is trying to guilt them into not taking a break for the sake of the future of KPOP. 😳. Way to add to the burden there. BTS deserves this break. They've not going anywhere, they said they want to be Bangtan Papas, then Bangtan Grandpas and hang out and sing together until they can't sing anymore. But they can't be that unless they go out and live their lives and experience things away from constant attention. Namjoon said that they were ready to take this break after the MOTS tour, but the pandemic derailed that. Now I see why they said they were lost and adrift after all their plans fell through. Their English songs were meant to help us be upbeat during the last two years. Things kept popping up and piling up and it literally became a case of "after this, we'll do it." Announcing this at the height of their fame took so much bravery, and to think that they were asking us for our blessings to go own their journeys...that was heart wrenching 💔. I noticed that their letter balloons on the wall didn't include ARMY like they normally do. Its like they were hesitant in assuming ARMY'S automatic support. I wish them all the best health, happiness, and safety. I wish you all the same💜

while i don't think you're completely wrong, i think its important to point out that namjoon clearly states they were already wrung out when ON was released and were planning to go on their break BEFORE the pandemic hit (after the world tour of course). the english singles and the huge response they received were just another weight added. I don't like the narrative that it was the english songs that made them lose their direction when they were already talking about burn out IN Black Swan, thats literally the whole point of the song

    • @CChanHI
      @CChanHI 2 года назад +1

@@nickismith8611 I agree with you and I didn’t mean to make it sound like it was the English songs fault. I was trying to convey the progression of, to me, what changed. Their plans got derailed with Covid. Then what they released, dynamite, blew them up even bigger. Combined with Grammy potential and etc and becoming national reps and everything else. They just got steamrolled.

It took army about a week to process through everything that was said during the dinner. And I do think the change in the captions and JK's vlive helped with this as well. The members knew that there would be fall out from this and there was a lot! But their only concern was how army was going to take it. It broke my heart to see them so emotional and it took a while to find out the why. Another army pointed it out and I realized that they have never shared their pain with us so much like they did during the Festa dinner. We usually find out about their struggles after they have come to terms with it. For example, Jin bringing up the almost disbandment at the award show. Or the members releasing a song and then explaining what they were going through when they wrote it. Apparently Jimin recorded a vlog that was not released for a year because he was talking about how the memebers were struggling. I need to find that one. But during the dinner they were in the middle of all that pain and they shared it with us. Even though it was so hard to see them like that, I felt touched by the fact that even though this was difficult to talk about they wanted us to hear it from them! Not the company, not an interview, they wanted it to be just us, BTS and Army. And that means so much to me. There are still a lot of concerns because of the uncertainty ahead of us. But one this that army is not worried about any more is that it will always be ARMY FOREVER BANGTAN FOREVER!

Oh, Roscoe! don´t make me cry again! Of course, I don't think I have any right to expect them to fulfill my own ideas and desires instead of their own.
Let´s say me this: from the very first time when I started recognizing them by name, I felt a very strong desire to indulge them in their own lives instead of in front of the camera and the eyes of the public. To have their own loves and yes, along with it their own mistakes. I think it was difficult for them to make this decision earlier because they live in a society where the individual puts the needs of society ahead of their needs.
But Namjoon (with the support of the members) also showed his wisdom in this, because he was able to name the problem and push for its solution. BTS can get out of the current stream and actually flow with it. They don't want to stop singing, they just refuse to maintain the murderous tempo that society dictates to them.
And I liked how Namjoon emphasized that he prefers to speak Bangtan than BTS, it's not just a name for the group, it's really the meaning for the word - bulletproof ...

Regarding the no cheer concert; they wanted to make sure they had a show in Korea when some of the restrictions were lifted, prior to covid they had to postpone then cancel their concert in Seoul. I'm sure this was to make it up to KArmy and because like they said, they've been thinking about this for a long time; so solo releases were in the works already. Also, the concert was in the Olympic stadium that holds about 70 thousand people and they were restricted to 15; the restrictions also stated that they had to wear masks, had to keep a safe distance, could not yell/sing, and could not stand. So KArmy used cardboard fans to cheer for them but it doesn't compare. I saw the concerts online and I could see how it affected them not being able to hear their fans. More restrictions have lifted since then so things have changed and festivals are happening.

Hi Roscoe. Welcome back! I watched this dinner party in real time. I must admit I was expecting something completely different as it was my first FESTA. OG Armys on Twitter were hyping it up as a great experience and that baby Armys were going to have so much fun with it. I felt from the beginning of the video that there was something “off” and now of course we know why. You’re right. Many took it as a break up because the original translation used the word “hiatus.” And we know what that usually means when it comes to bands/ groups. I will admit that I spent most of last Tuesday (has it only been 12 days?), balling my eyes out. I was holding my own during the video until Namjoon broke down. That’s when I lost it. I could feel his pain and felt so guilty as Army. Why didn’t I see this before? Did I demand too much from them? Was I that greedy? And still in my grief I was being greedy. My logical mind understands entirely their need for a break and I’m totally supportive of any decision they make, even if it’s breaking up the group for good. But my heart cried out in devastation and I don’t regret it. Many were made fun of and chastised online for being “crybabies” or for “overreacting.” I think everyone should be allowed to feel their feelings. I cried because I felt the shift, the change that the group is making. But also because my heart broke after hearing their words, all they’ve been feeling and how much they don’t want to disappoint us. They should not feel guilty or ashamed of wanting to find themselves and live their lives, and yet they did. Hopefully going forward they’ll achieve their dreams and be all they want to be whether they come back to us or not. I have hope that they’ll return as they said, a “better” version of themselves. I’ll wait for that day. We ARMY love BTS, Kim Namjoon , Kim SeokJin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook unconditionally forever 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

@@aellerica6380 I agree. With the benefit of time, I’ve been able to process my feelings and I understand fully what BTS individually have to do for their own physical and mental well being. It was my visceral reaction on the day of the Festa 2022 airing that overwhelmed me with emotion. I also understand that they wouldn’t consider my reaction as selfish. It makes me so happy to see Namjoon namjooning in Germany and in Paris. As well as seeing Tae fully being Tae in Paris fashion week. Jungkook fulfilling his dream to collaborate with Charlie Puth and J-hope preparing for his solo album release, all these things are what I, as Army, want them to experience. I look forward to seeing what all the members have in store for us. I’m truly so happy for them now.

The way they ve done that anouncement by doing this Festa dinner show how much they care about Army. They didn't want that we ear that news through medias who always interpret their words and intentions. They knew that by adressing directly to us WE would understand their feelings, their struggles, their needs....
But that's also what it s heartbreaking learning how much they didn't feel "good" maybe for years now, they felt trapped in what BTS represent and the expectations. But they couldn't express it, that's why i think Jimin talk about "not being honest". I think since ON they might have started talking about those feelings to each others but Covid hit and they felt that urge to heal and support people, Army who were having hard times. So they put their feelings aside to help US.
I met them during covid and it helped me a lot. So now hearing how much they were loosing themselves in that process i feel guilty to not have seen how they felt.
Also it is so hard to see them asking for permission to turn the page of this first chapter. If someone deserve to find happiness and identity it is BTS. They ve done so much for people now they have the right to think about their happiness, growth, private life.
It might be 3, 5 years or more but i really hope they will find, build and live experiences that young men of 20-30 yo need to have to grow.
It was so hard to see Joonie crack up saying he felt guilty to ask for permission to find himself. It was as if he was asking for freedom... to just live his life of a young man near his 30s.
After this Festa the medias were unleashed. And some people who looked down to BTS at their debut now ask them to reconsiderate their decision ! WHY ?! Because those people think BTS can't do that to their fans they think BTS shouldnt complain they should be indebt to their fans by doing lot of contents as BTS. But it is so hypocrit !!! Those people just said that because of the loss of MONEY, they don't care about their feelings and health !
An other guy said that BTS have been disrespectful to the industry by saying the industry wouldn't let them grow by putting pressure on young ppl like BTS and other groups. WTF !
That's why i love BTS because they ve always pointed problems, issues, illness, injustice.... And that is a big problem in that industry.
I wish them the best 💜 and i believe them when they said they will come back stronger as BTS.
I am so excited to discover all the 7 different albums and more....
I feel relieved that they trust us enough to deliver their private feelings to US.
    💜

1st I just want to say welcome home couch cap! It has been hard for all of us, not because of them taking a break from group activities, but due to the fact that they've been hurting and exhausted and yet pushed through that 2 yrs just because they don't want to disappoint ARMYs. I know some noticed that during Butter and PTD that it seems that BTS is not BTS (not that they change a lot, but because of the songs being released). It was so Westernized and we are not used to that. We loved the songs but there's something off about it.
As to the "we can't be honest all the time", I think its because they can't openly tell they were having a rough time before. Jin once said something like, people don't need to know how much work you've done/ all your trials for a thing you put out, they just need to know the end product. And of course, since they are still entertainers they can't just tell everything they want. Esp. with BTS, them being like spokesperson for a lot of things that now all eyes are always on them and 1 wrong word or whatnot will be blown out of proportions.
And as we know, they don't want to disappoint ARMYs. Just like this dinner, which is a very special one for BTS and ARMYs, the time they had the courage to tell what they felt over the past couple of years, the media twists their words and write these news when they didn't even understand what they meant for "taking a break". They made headlines that they were disbanding when the boys themselves told loud and clear that they are not. And having these solo promos for Chapter 2 is common with Kpop. Its not like bands in the west that if you want to have a solo career that you need to disband to pursue it. In Kpop solo careers can go hand in hand with group activities as what I have noticed with other groups.
All we want is for our boys to be who they want to be, to rest as much as they can, to be happy and be inspired again. Whatever it is that they'll pursue in the future we will be there to support them. Both as a group and as a solo artist. They've done so much for a lot of people, and the only thing we can give them is our undying love and support for all of them. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
*sorry for the long comment. I just need to get it out of my mind. They've been through a lot and it is really heartbreaking to see them being scared to let us know what they have been going through because they don't want to disappoint us. We love them always, and we will support them all the way..

This tore my heart out. I was in Busan when this aired and I literally couldn’t function for a couple of days. I had spent the anniversary in Seoul and then hopped on a train to Busan so I could go to Magnate (Jimin’s dad’s cafe). I had a really weird feeling because for the past 6 months there were signs all over the place and I just had to go to S Korea this year. I am so glad I was there. But the level of ARMY guilt I have is palpable. I always worried about them and the pressure they were under. They just wanted to make music and they have the weight of S Korea and the world on their backs. Case in point, Hybe’s stock took a nose dive right after this dinner. JK ended up doing a V Live as damage control the next day because of all of the fallout. I owe these 7 men my life and I will support them to the moon and back a million times over. I agree that this was a relief/release for them. I think they were so afraid of having this discussion with us that once they did, it just all came out. Now we have to support them in all of their upcoming efforts. No matter what it is or isn’t. APOBANGPO and Couch CrewPO!!

Welcome home , Roscoe! So wonderful to see you and hear you again.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful reflection. Agree 100%!
Like so many, my family had our own contemplative discussion about the Festa dinner and we were very happy for the guys when they shared that they were going to do some individual artistic work or take a rest or anything. It was not a sad experience until we saw that they were sad. It truly bothered us that instead of this excitement for the new album and for their Chapter 2 adventure, BTS could not even rejoice that they were going to try new things. It made us wonder about the idol and fan culture in SK, why BTS would feel guilty of pursuing their own music interests, the weight of Hybe's, the Korean music industry's, SK corporations' (sponsors) and SK government's expectations of these young men because they have contributed massively to SK's GDP over these past years.
It also was revealing that they could not even say something like "Beloved Army! We got great news! We are embarking on this wonderful road of self discovery as we continue to mature as men in our late 20s and 30s as well as grow as artists / musicians which will mean sharing with you individual albums so we can contribute even more creatively and holistically to the BTS that you all know and love! This Chapter 2 will also give us the opportunity to live our lives as we have dreamed to do for so long. So we are counting on you all to join us on our brand new life journey! " (something to this effect)
My family and I will continue to support BTS and their music in whatever form that comes in the future. And as you said, if the beautiful journey comes to an end - it will always be an unforgettable and special moment in life for me and my family that we will be grateful for forevermore.

I am so happy that our boys are taking some much needed self care time. It breaks my heart that they felt they had to ask us to understand. I agree with you on their emotions being brought on partially by relief. I also think that a lot of their careful wording was due in part because they knew the media and trolls would purposely mislabel the downtime as a disbanding. I think for me, it was the fact that when it premiered, some of the translations were wrong. They translated Yoongi's words to say "hiatus" (they've already changed the subtitles). And since so many of us were watching at the same time, it spiraled. As the video went on and they were explaining their reasons and it made more sense. Speaking from my personal perspective, I'm glad they're taking a break to grow on their own. I'm not sure how to say it correctly, but they've been living and perceived as a group for like 10-13 years. It'll be good for them to experience things individually. I hope they are able to ignore the "army" that don't approve and live their lives as happily as possible.
Also, the no cheering at the concert in Korea part: Because of corona restrictions, we weren't allowed to scream or stand up during the concert. So we had to use these foldable banners (given to us by the concert organizers) as clappers the whole concert. It was definitely the weirdest experience I've ever had and I bet even more so for bts. Which is why, now that we're allowed to yell again, they decided to do three music shows for Yet to Come and For Youth. They wanted to hear Korean army's voices again because they haven't been able to since 2019.

Relief. Thank you for helping me process this "dinner" even after all this time. It has been over a year and a half. BTS, as individuals, worked so hard for us to have content during their "hiatus." J-hope album on July 15th!! And pre-release single on July 1st! Next week!!! T-T
Yes. The saddest part of this is never ever the break, is the need to justify it. Their feelings. I love these men with my whole soul and heart and mind. I broke down knowing the pain they were feeling and wanting to make them free myself. To hug them, to whisper them "it's OK, baby, it's OK". The relationship we have is one of a kind for something. We are like their mothers (some would like to be girl/boyfriends, I know xD, I am just married to Yoongi so...) and they feel like they owe us (who "raise" them), so they don't want to disappoint someone so important in their lives.
That's also why they hope we still support their solo careers (officially, with album to be bought, not for free as till now). And we'll do so.
After watching, I wrote 2 replies to different tweets summing it up in 160 char. I think I got around 1000 likes and replies saying "thank you for explaining" ^^U Till now I am still not sure why people were reading other thing (not the media, those are vile as they can be), but I'm glad I could potentially help 1000 people to understand and spread the meaning of the dinner ^^
Have fun. Let's hear their music!!!

Roscoe, you hit the nail on the head that the worse thing about this is that they all were nervous about the reaction (not just ARMY, but outside of the fandom) and felt guilty for needing it. And that makes those of us who love them and feel thankful to them for the positivity and light they have put into our lives feel bad for the part we have played in their hardships.
I think it’s pretty clear that they had a plan that included rest, relaxation, individual projects (musical or otherwise), and probably military service - to begin after the MOTS7 tour. The pandemic ruined that AND it left them without their own plan. They had to make decisions in a world that we ALL recognize as shifting, damn difficult, and draining. One option was to go ahead and serve in the military (pretty clear to me that was what SUGA was alluding to) and come back from that refreshed. So they released Dynamite, which was an astronomical hit - and their Grammy dream seemed like an achievable goal rather than a pipe dream. So they went after it. They created “BE” - which had more involvement from members than ever before - and a lot of fans didn’t like it, and the RA ignored it. They didn’t win the Grammy but it seemed within their grasp, so they did “Butter” as a second attempt. The pandemic started to feel like it was easing up. They released “Permission to Dance” - a celebration that things were looking up - and almost immediately things shut down again and the pandemic was worse than over because of the new variants. They did PTD LA and made it available to see worldwide, and recorded three new songs for the anthology they’d been planning to close “Chapter 1” post-MOTS7 and maybe release during their break/military service. Instead, they released the anthology with the new songs to help fans ease out of chapter 1 and introduce the always-intended chapter 2 (military service and individual projects). Before they could do that, though, Las Vegas approached them with what they could do there - take over an entire city. They had plans for something similar themselves, so this was an opportunity they couldn’t pass up. At the same time, Seoul opened up just enough to permit a concert, albeit one without the cheers of fans. So they took a short break at the holidays and came back to prepare for the Seoul and Vegas concerts. They did those concerts and immediately began their break, interrupting it for two weeks while they prepared for the “Proof” promotions on Korean music shows.
And now they are fully in their break. We have the collab by JK with Charlie Puth, hobi’s new album single dropping on Friday and the full album two weeks later, Tae’s In the Soop spin-off with his Wooga friends that begins July 22 (and his attendance this week at the Celine show in Paris), hobipalooza on July 31, and God only knows what else (Run BTS will begin airing again at some point). We won’t have a lot of group stuff (and that’s definitely sad), but we will have a lot of great music and other content from them…and THAT is super exciting. My daughter and I are going to hobipalooza, and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us!

Even as *Baby ARMY* Roscoe you are extraordinarily insightful and empathic. You hit the nail on the head: Our love for BTS is what's *BEST for THEM* and what's best right now, is for members to explore their individuality in whatever form that is, without pressure or prejudice. BTS has repeatedly said they will still be together when _old+grey_ as family, friends, co-workers or musical group. Let's respect and support that 💯🤞💜

Some things I think about. I feel like Tae, Jk, and Yoongi are in the best mental space these days. Yoongi is thriving and growing in all ways, Jk & Tae are both on some mission both the days leading up to this Festa and the days immediately after spending slot of time with Army like taking care of Army. Both stepped up and I got extreme big brother vibes from Tae doing a live with army the day before because he knew this was coming he even had us take a nap with him and sang us Disney songs watched Run episodes with us. Right after JK sang to us for a long time and reassured us on live. JHope seems to have turned a corner and is excited to be the one to launch his solo album as the first full solo and headline Lollapollza solo. I’m worried but hopeful Jin and Jimin will be ok. Jin seems to be and it’s hard to get a read on Jimin he’s been the one I’ve been most worried about because leading up to this for months we’ve been a bit worried about him. And RM I want to hold him and give him love and protect him because he needs this desperately. But they all are getting their tattoos they are having a grand time and they decided a few days into Chapter 2 to make it adult content no more buttons and shirts and let’s cheer up Army with thirst traps and it’s hilarious and exhausting. Love them and I hope we all learn how to follow their example to use this time to grow ourselves and support all the solo albums and wait for the group return. Missed you glad you are back heck of an emotional month for Army. Also just an add that this Festa made me care for them even more they showed us the most vulnerable side of them and trusted us. They ups have done a press release or a press conference etc but nope they had a dinner with us to tell us and talk us through everything informally.

I think a good way to think of it is that they’ve achieved everything they ever wanted to. Their passion as rookies came from the need of wanting to be the best and that helped them constantly better themselves. They lives the same lives as us so felt like the lyrics they wrote would really resonate with their listeners. But now they’ve made it to the top, they may not know where to aim or what they want to achieve next. That’s completely understandable for a group that’s been non stop active for 9 years. As nj said, they’ve also developed their individual tastes and personalities since they were rookies. They spent the whole of their 20’s working and I think they realised they’re also humans and they need to give into their own interests rather than thinking of what’s best for the team as a collective to develop as humans. I think this is definitely needed and hopefully they can come out of this with more experience to write about

The 2017 Billboard awards, established them as global artists. But there is no precedent for non-English speakers. They've been struggling to understand their role as pioneers. And while trying to run with this new momentum, they find themselves being pulled by existing industry demands.
What's changed? Nothing. They're fighting for their integrity while a global industry still just sees them as a superficial boyband.

I hope I don't get hate for saying this, but I heard people saying that they should have never done the English songs, I'm 68 years old and if they wouldn't have done Dynamite, I would have never found them and all their wonderful music. Watching them perform was like watching magic, and it breaks my heart seeing them go through this. They got me through 2020 trying to figure out the B.U. I loved every minute of it. I was never into rap but that all changed after hearing the rap line. (TEAR). I hope they get to experience all the things in life they've missed out on. But I can't help to feel the Military service has something to do with this too. If the Government doesn't make a decision soon Jin will go this year. That's probably why his music will be the last of the solo music to come out. I wish the best for BTS. Fighting💪💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

There have been several prominent Korean singers, actors and recently a volleyball player that took their own lives after battling depression, often made worse by mean comments from anonymous idiots on the internet. This includes people BTS knew. BTS songs from Suga, Jin and RM ( & the rapline song “Ugh!”) have dealt with this mental health topic that is taboo in Korea, a country with the highest suicide rate for young people. They taught us how to love ourselves. Hobi said this is a healthy step they are taking. I take this as BTS yet again leading the way and being a good example for others. Don’t get stuck doing something just to make others happy at the expense of your own sanity and happiness. Don’t feel guilty for taking a break. Take the time you need to discover yourself and gather your thoughts and then later you can come back even stronger than before. Many of us can relate to this. Even if we can’t afford to take a leave of absence from our daily jobs, but we need to remember to parse out some time for ourselves and not be consumed by work. I know this is something I need to work on. Some ARMY were confused and sad at first- so many crying emojis!! But then the hashtag “BTSItsOkayToRest” was trending on Tw!tter. Like V said, the majority of ARMY will support this Chapter 2 of BTS and know it is for the better. Jungkook’s ending toast said it all. APO BANGPO!! APO: Army Forever! BANGPO: Bangtan Forever! 💜 (F pronounced like P in Korea)

This dinner was such an emotional rollercoaster. I cry a lot, not because of me being afraid that they might disband, but because of them, being so open, vulnerable, emotional, and true. I feel greatful for their honesty and how they talk to us. I was proud of them, true artists who need to feed themselves with life to get a new inspiration in their art. I feel full of hope when they talk about the future and what they want to show us. I feel nostalgic when they talk about the old dorm and their new houses. I feel painful and it's hurt me when I see how exhausted they are, how lost about the direction BTS will take to survive now that they have reach the top. How afraid they are that we don't understand them, but still hoping we do. And of course, we do. We understand them, and give all the blessing JK ask for. We want them to rest, have time to grow, to discover themselves, and be happy. We will be there for them, as BTS and as individuals. Probably a lot of Army feel frustrated because we want to hug them and tell them : "it's OK, guys. Take your time, we will always be with you", but we can't do that directly. And maybe we feel guilty, a little ? Hearing that the boys felt guilty about wanting a break was painful, because in a way, we are a part of the system, wanting always more for our own sake : more songs, more performance, more concert, more shows, more interaction on Vlive... They always give us comfort and joy, often strenght to fight for our dream or life or a better future, so we don't want to repayed them with pressure, burn out and fear. Just with love and support. The best is yet to come, for BTS and each member, and Army will be there. (And I have to say, the days after this dinner, the media went crazy, at the point that Big Hit and Namjoon have both to made a statement and JK went on Vlive, but Army was united and strongly supportive)
Oh, and a fun little fact : they finally get their 'friendship tattoo", a little "7" : Joonie inside his ankle, Hobi above Achylle tendon, Jin on his lower waist , Jimin in the inner side of his index finger, JK behind his ear.

you have to think about that hybe and bighit is a company they can´t let the boys go off the grit for a few months to help them get inspired because kpop is very competitive and they expect new music every year or 6 months.
so they tried to give them as much freedom they could without harming the overall kpop image or else their fans would stop coming back for more. and bighit was a small company they needed the money right away to get their business going. and also the members only have about 7 years together before they get to old or want to do solos. they need them to shine when they are still young.

No, i don't think it was a reaction to Army but the pressures of being the biggest K-pop group, the highest grossing boy band in the world and also part of the music industry in general, that is a beast. When you are a money making machine for labels, media establishments and now a huge conglomerate that is Hybe, the pressure has to be incredible. Armys are just fans and we are fine if they need time off or make a mixtape or independent album, or try experimenting and doing more noncommercial things...I don't think they did PTD, Butter or Dynamite in English for the fans. The fans are fine and actually love even more the Korean songs. That was a business move probably influenced by the label wanting to crush the English speaking market. I think that is what RM and the others are talking about here. They are not about that, they even said it in Yet To Come. I am aware that there are some fanatics that call themselves Armys and don't really care for their safety or mental health (or yours as a reactor), but the majority of us real armys are pretty smart and kind people, for sure!

It must have been so hard for them to be the role model that everybody expects them to be, their countries pride, all this added pressures to an already highly pressured life. They couldn't cheer, sing, stand or dance. But, now that the restrictions have been lifted, they wanted to hear Korean ARMYs cheers so they did the music shows. Also, the album dropped first. THEN, a few days later, this Festa Dinner video came out.

I think that they have carried this burden for so long that when they could finally say the words out loud it was a complete emotional release, and the tears flooded out. We've all probably been there once or twice. I am glad that they recognize that they need to do this for themselves, and yes - this took a lot of courage.

I felt sad not for the “break” but because they had been struggling for so long... And at the end, I was relieved that now each of them would do what they had emphasized all the time at the Festa. They need to find themselves, what they love to do, or even do nothing, just enjoy the life experience. They gave so much to us. Now it's time to us give them our support. I wrote a lot, hehe, and English is not my first language. I hope Armys get well; cry if is necessary, but don't forget what the boys did for us, and now it's our time to be their shield. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

It just crushed me to see how they are suffering under this weight but Joonie… our dear Joonie i could see the weight on his shoulders.
I think one thing that you will see is that is just sickening is that immediately media was trying to take this moment that they shared with the Army who they trust and make headlines and clickbait for money. I 100% believe in the sincerity of these guys. If they say it is a break and not permanent then I will take them at their word. That said, I worry because when everyone is in the same place and pulling toward the same goal momentum keeps you going, but when everyone starts to move in different directions I fear that getting all 7 back on the same page will be difficult. I know from my own personal experience of being in a military family that even with the best of intentions when you move away from someone it is very easy to loosen your bond. I have people who I never thought I would lose touch with, people I went to some serious stuff with and because time and distance our friendship has faded. I will always love them but we have all moved on. I think a lot of it will depend on how many years they spread out their military enlistments. Even if this is it for BTS, as an ARMY we have to cheer them on individually. I can't imagine the pressure they are living under. The day this video broke Hybe stocks fell 28% and the company lost over a billion dollars which I am sure they feel guilt about. They have been branded as the ambassadors of Korea and are responsible for spreading Korean culture to the rest of the world. That is a lot for these guys to be responsible for especially in light of the fact that Hybe is pushing them in a more western direction. It is selfish to just want them to continue without being able to find the things in life that truly joyful like date and get married and have children all things not allowed under the current KPOP system. All I know is I will cherish every bit of content they provide whether individual or as a group and if Suga is out there singing Fake Love at 100 I will go to his concert!!

Roscoe, I'm so glad you were so mature and understanding about this. A sane voice of reason in a time of chaos.
I have been surrounded by kpop since 2009 and this moment was the first time an idol group has ever been able to be so honest about their emotions. I still don't think army understand how lucky they are that bts exists as it does. There has never been a kpop group that has served their military time together. Ever. Companies milk their artists until the last moment before they have to go. Can you imagine bts being separated for at least 5 years?
I got angry and emotional the first time i saw this. How dare we make joonie cry? How dare we make bts feel like they have to apologize for wanting to take a break? How we dare...
I'm pretty sure even the craziest have realized that bts isn't going anywhere at this point.

Apo bangpo means "ARMY forever, BTS forever" :) And you should know that initially, some of the subtitles were translated differently, thus the ARMY freakout. The translator used "hiatus", which has a bit of a more extreme meaning in English than what the guys actually meant. I'd rather call it a sabbatical, to be honest lol BUT. Now that you've seen this and felt what we've felt... You should go back and look at Black Swan :( It explains so much, now that we know they had intended to take their break after the release of MOTS 7.

Captain!!!!!! after this black swan lyrics hit very different especially from rapline verses in it. do check black swan lyrics because originally they were ending season 1 after Map of the soul : 7 which has ON and Black swan. it all makes so much sense to have black swan then. like Suga's verse in it to squeeze out lyrics etc is what yoongi is talking about in dinner.

After this video dropped ARMY was as Bangtan expected us to be. We were sad of course, but not because they were taking a break. It was because it was hard to see them like this, we felt guilty for not knowing they were having such a hard time. That they delayed for 2 years to see us through the pandemic…
We were saying it’s ok to rest, take a break, have personal lives and we’ll be waiting. Always.
It was the media and the rest of the world who were spreading misinformation ‘Bts are breaking’ nonsense.

I really wish the 45 m armys can watch this, you couldn't have said it better, they deserved it, they earned it, and yes as an army I do feel guilty too, that they feel that way, that they feel the need to ask permission to live their lives and be happy, going through a divorce right now this hit me hard because they've always been my happy place and my rock, now is my turn, I will always be an army and I will always support them no matter what, and I will always be a couch buddy too, thank you Roscoe!! Borahae💜

Hi Lily...I saw you say this in chat but it ended before my old fingers could type anything out 😆....I went through the same thing last year....you'll be ok! Never dreamed of having to start from scratch at 60 yrs old! But....I've done it before and can do it again...just might be a bit slower 😆 so keep your chin up and soon Kelly Clarkson's song..."Since you've been gone " will be your theme song too! 😆 much love and luck on your NEW journey!

1:01:25 Namjoon said, "But when it comes down to each member, people don't know who each of us are." ARMY and people who pay attention of course know the individual members, but I think for the general public or casual listeners, what Joonie said is true.
I've been watching Charlie Puth's interviews about "Left and Right" and interviewers always asked him, why did he pick JK to collab with. For interviewers familiar with BTS, they know that all members are talented, so they're essentially asking what is it specifically about JK that Charlie resonates with and makes him pick him.
But one interviewer asked something like, "What if you chose the wrong one?" and "Would other members feel left out?" It makes it seem like that for this interviewer, all members are pretty much the same, without any distinguishing characteristics. You pick one randomly and just hope that who you pick is the right one. I think this reflects the general public to a certain extent.
This is why I'm always happy when other artists and musicians pick specific members to work with. It shows that they know BTS enough to recognize their individual talents. Charlie, of course, but also Jon Batiste picking Tae for his interest in jazz, Juice WRLD's label picking Suga for their shared concern about mental health, Halsey picking Suga for their similar worldviews, Hobi working with Becky G for their shared love for "Chicken Noodle Soup", and various artists with RM for his rapping skills.
So I'm really excited for their solo albums and for the general public to get to know their individual talents and music styles.

Thank you Roscoe, I waited this time to rewatch the Festa dinner with you. So I'm very pleased to hear your insights .. it was heartbreaking to read media distort their Festa dinner message causing Hybe's stocks to plummet at the stock market right after.. BTS' music helped me with my own life struggles so I understand what they're going through and I also believe that they have earned this break to find themselves and come back better like they promised in Yet to Come. Plus I'm looking forward to them performing Run BTS 😊. Welcome back Roscoe 💜.
