I will say it many many times - Spring Day is a song about of loss of someone and how difficult it is to face your daily life without them.
The original story behind the song is important, the context is important, but the thing is, the purpose of this song was to lessen the pain, help people who remained to get better, to give them comfort. I would even say it allows people to relate to different emotions you might feel after losing someone: sometimes it is sadness, other times people feel numb or even angry. And it is important to see that you have the right to feel like this. Many things in the MV can have a double meaning - a direct reference to the Sewol tragedy and sth you can interpret (like references to books, movies, symbols etc). The song can have many interpretations, but it is important to acknowledge the real-life events it is connected so thank you for paying close attention to the story.
So the interpretation of the songs can differ between people since we all have different experiences, but as long as you feel moved, as long as you feel like the song means something to you, it is valuable.
Personally, my interpretation of this song leans toward the one you had in your previous video - the suicide one - and I find this song very comforting and healing.

LUMPENS (Choi YongSeok - visual artist) is the director of nearly all of BTS MVs. He and his team are incredible. Please also note that PD Bang Shi Hyuk studied and topped the Aesthetics Department at Seoul National University. Between PD Bang and Lumpens (and producer PDogg and Choroegrapher Son SungDeuk) - all who have been with BTS since the beginning, they know how to bring the stories BTS are telling to us in a visual form. RM has often said that they will not give us all the answers to the songs - it is up to us to take what we need from them. They can tell us what inspired them to create it, but it would defeat the purpose for them to hand us all the answers on a platter.... Also many times - like this - the MV may actually only partially relate to the song. Especially from the Bangtan Universe MVs where a story is being told over multiple videos.
A easy way to look at it is that the MVs are mini movies and the songs are the soundtrack they interrelate in order to tell a bigger story - one that we the viewers have to determine for ourselves.... It is all designed to get us to think and question in a world that's trying to dumb us down. (WHich is what I feel is the most special about BTS - they are challenging us to take control back - to value ourselves in a world where we are constantly being made to feel unworthy. - if you understand what I mean)
Here is a link for an interview with Lumpens just before he started working with BTS ruclips.net/video/8NUtpJX_h6I/видео.html

So RM and Suga have said that they wrote lyrics about real life situations involving friends I believe, but the visuals they put into the music video and live performances were very much about the Sewol Ferry incident. And then when the pandemic happened, they sang Spring Day as a representation of hope for the pandemic to end and to reunite with ARMY. The point of the song can be interpreted many different ways. It’s the song I listen to when I’m sad because it feels like a song that acknowledges the hurt one is feeling, with a promise of hope that things can and will be better.

Thank you so much for saying this! Spring Day is a masterpiece which exists on many levels and shouldn’t be limited to one single meaning. It’s also so important to differentiate between the song and the music video which adds to and enhances the song. The fact that BTS sang this song over and over to us during the pandemic shows a whole new layer of meaning. Also this is my song for when I’m missing my parents who have passed away. I think each of us can find our Spring Day in this symbolism-rich song! 🌿🌼

  • @Krystara
    @Krystara 2 года назад +472

Honestly, you aren't wrong at all about the song - they wrote the lyrics about longing and loss and hope. It's just the MV that is about a specific incident. So you aren't at all wrong.

    • @Nilaratna
      @Nilaratna 2 года назад +20

Exactly. Plus, there's no way anyone could guess at the symbolism of the MV unless they already knew of the tragedy (and not just knew of it, but had some emotional investment in it and/or researched it, like this brilliant Italian Army did). Your reaction to the song itself was very heartening - for lots of us, it's uplifting just to see a grown man being moved by something like this. So, thank you for that. With a lot of BTS songs, there's meaning beyond face value - but it isn't EVERY single song... so just have fun with it and discover any different layers there may be, as you go. They also do things for sheer silliness and fun, so not everything is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery and shrouded in an enigma (to very badly paraphrase Churchill!)

The thing is I don’t think you were wrong at all. The SONG itself is about loss and the lyrics and music can be plugged into any personal situation we individually resonate with. That is how music and art work - in the eyes and ears of the person listening or watching. That is the power of good music. That is the power of BTS.
The loss and feeling that hit you first was your friends suicide. The loss to me right now is my father. So the SONG is about loss and hope and grief and the struggle to get to that Spring Day.
But the MV… the MV is about a very specific tragedy in Korean history that was a shared loss and together it just makes the SONG that much more heartfelt and real. 💜

This 100%! I think some people forget that the song and the MV are two different things, so I'm glad you reinforced that they are separate! But of course as you said they also tie into each other and give more meaning to the other. I couldn't even listen to Spring Day for awhile after I found the theories about the meaning of the music video, because I automatically thought of the Sewol Tragedy and it made me too upset. Then BTS started singing Spring Day as a song of longing and hope for ARMY during COVID, and it took on another meaning for me. Now it's one of my favorite BTS songs. It has so many layers of meaning. That goes for any number of BTS songs!

The short story “Those Who Walk Away from Omelas” is one of the most difficult but important allegories I’ve read. The idea that a perfect utopia exists but only at the sacrifice a child kept in suffering, and that citizens are shown this child and given a choice to ignore the child and live in utopia city or “walk away” because the cost is too high. Same ideas with Snowpiercer. Keep in mind BTS and BigHit took a big political risk making this MV and it was their first or last time they did so always in subtle or not so subtle ways. The fact they take such risks in their art to bring awareness to topics like this etc are why fans go so hard for them IMO. Yes we love the songs choreography etc but they stand for things.

Some people wonder why BTS? To be frank; BTS are the most talented people, I've ever come across but that's not the only reason. They make me happy. I belly laugh so hard, that tears rush down my cheeks. They are such goofballs, but you can see each member has a giant heart. I have become more thoughtful because of Jimin giving cakes & gifts to his fellow members. I had stopped because I had grown up and I was too busy. Now, I see the joy in others when I show kindness to them. BTS makes me think. They don't tell me the answer. They want me to figure it out. They make me face myself. They have me touch grass when I'm anxious and make sure I look up at the sky and appreciate the beauty of the world. They take me on these trips with them. Walking through galleries. Stopping for a moment and really looking at the piece. How does it make me feel? What's it made of? Do I personally like it? They make me look for prospective. BTS is, Learning to breathe again.

For Koreans, Ferry Sewol remains a trauma in itself. The first breaking news in the morning was misinformation that "all rescued," and in less than an hour, all Koreans had to witness the sinking of the ship in “real time” on a TV screen. Seeing someone die in person works completely differently than hearing the news of the accident. The visuals are that powerful. (That's why many people love BTS's music video.) In particular, most of the passengers on the ship were high school kids, and all parents with children felt as if their children were dying. Me too. The wound will heal, but the scar will remain. We Koreans still cry when we think of Ferry Sewol.
However, why I recommended Bulletproof version rather than Italian Army, cause she talks so fast focusing on the actual event so sometime it's hard to focus on this beautiful Spring Day MV as a tribute. I do hope you do just one more reaction to Bulletproof Vibe’s explanation, because it will make you calm down and think and feel in a better way. (and now you learned detail about the accident then it would be a way better to see the other explanation video. There are more points that Italian Army girl didn't explain... trust me.)

Part of the the brilliance of the lyrics of this song is that they are ambiguous enough to apply to many types of grief. If they meant that to you, that's 100% valid. Almost all of BTS songs and MV reference some works of literature and/or arts. In Spring Day, as you saw, are the Omelas and Christian Boltanski references. This is due in no small part to RM being the book worm and art lover of the group. In fact, Omelas is one of the books on his recommended reading list. RM is known to spend his free time reading and visiting art museums. This is a big reason why their music is so sophisticated, because RM is one of primary writers.

I think a lot of Army will suggest to reactors or those who don't really know BTS to watch Spring Day because it is encapsulates all BTS can do in one song. The song itself which was written by RM, Suga and others at Big hit at its core is about loss and grief of all kinds not just the Sewol tragedy but they say generically...friend. It delivers a message of hope to hold on during the coldest, darkest and hardest part because Spring will come and flowers will bloom again, the MV then makes a visual connection to the ferry tragedy which was designed to help those in Korea who were suffering at that time. The live performance which is a beautiful interpretive lyrical dance is the capstone that ties it all together into a beautifully told complete story ( no spoilers). When you digest it all you have a song that is meaningful, beautifully produced, singable and with a soothing melody and every time you listen to it you remember what it is about and it is like getting wrapped in a warm hug.

Art is art because it evokes emotion; it allows people to connect to it through their own experiences. Spring Day, overall, is about loss and grief and the knowledge that even THIS is not eternal; You're interpretation was not "wrong"; it was how this particular piece of art made you feel based on your experience. It was just ALSO about a tragedy. The reason we all love BTS so much is that they aren't surface level thinkers. "I remembered when they rescuing us its so tragic when you see your classmates/friends stuck asking and hearing them scream for help, the screaming and voices of people asking for help while the ships is sinking the scream slowly vanished. When you can’t help them because the water got deeper and deeper while they rescue us slowly. The time that i got rescued only 3 of us survived, my two classmates and i in our and my other classmates stuck in the ships hoping they’re still alive but when the time i heard the news that they’re all gone. It slowly sinking in that all my friends and the other class are gone and will never comeback. I feel guilty when I survived, I’m thinking am i lucky? Or is it not right that i was alive and not them? Do i deserve to live?.
Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, every night you can’t sleep because i keep hearing those scream a scream people needing a help but you can’t because your weak and got broken bones. Everything time I struggled to see what life is all about, thinking what if all of my friends survived and they with me survived. It would be dream to see that happening. I struggled to make a good life that i can be proud of because of that incident happened but when i found out about BTS my life changed me because of their music they changed my life the way that i can be proud of and I started loving myself by little by little and finally the day I realize life is so short and the incident happened 7years ago impacted my life to be a better person and all of our hardships are just a big task for us to make them done and the outcome will be 100times better the incident happened 7years ago thought me so many things.
The biggest one is don’t forget they might be gone but don’t forget them put them on your heart and like life all of your hardship and your mistakes will not lose or fail you it’s always a win win situation because we always learn from them. They have spoken about Spring Day many times explaining the meaning and purpose behind it. BigHit has even mentioned that the music video was dedicated to the tragedy, just like how the song has recently been dedicated to the pandemic. Dedicating a song and what it was written about are two different things.

It has been confirmed that the MV references the Sewol tragedy. Besides it’s very apparent in the MV, with the same phrases that survivors used to the time on the clock to the shoes on the shore and the yellow ribbons.
But the song is very personal and precious to me in perfectly expressing my longing for my son who passed. A scene that speaks to me is Hobie all alone on the top of the train.

But you are right they have mentioned about spring day numerous times and about losing and missing loved ones.

@@iddaalbar2129 The whole blacklist thing is kinda misinformation. They donated money right around the time they released Spring day and everyone knew about it, it was all over Korean news before the MV for Spring Day was even released. It was all over Korean news in January of 2017, and Spring Day wasn’t released until February I think. It wasn’t “secret” at all. Their “secret donation” was when they visited families and brought supplies back in 2014 when the tragedy actually happened. When Spring Day was released, the president had already been mostly voted out of office, they were just waiting on one final vote, and she was out of office within a month after the music video was released. If BTS confirmed it being about the tragedy they would have been praised left and right in Korea because it was right as the president was being impeached and EVERYONE was speaking about the tragedy. I think people try to really up play the whole “blacklist” thing. The only “trouble” they had with the president was being on an unofficial blacklist that was found during her investigation. But it was FILLED with celebrities, basically every big or upcoming idol group or actor/actress was on it. I really wish people would understand the real climate of Korea when this song was released, not what fans like to spread to make it seem more “dangerous” to release this song. If they had said something back in 2014, it really could have ruined their career. But in 2017, it would have boosted their career to confirm it.

What you felt hearing it the first time and the associations that it gave you, are in no way a wrong interpretation. Yoongi wrote his lyrics remembering a friend he no longer was in contact with and Namjoon (as far as I recall) from an abstract observation of loss. Your interpretation of those lyrics is what Spring Day means to you and that is your truth, Roscoe. 😊 Sorry for putting you through this video, but it is crucial to understanding what kind of artists, BTS are.

*side note* In Korean culture, your "age" is a very big deal. Even if you're 1yr older than someone, you need to speak "formally" to show respect. That being said, when this tragedy was happening the "authorities " were telling the kids to not move and stay seated instead of evacuating. So to the kids, they were following orders from their elders. As a Korean/American, I've always had issues with this and kind stuff about who's older, and you need to listen to people who are older to you and show respect. I just feel so upset that this played a big role in why this happened. 😞

I completely agree from non-Korean viewpoint. That social acceptance of obeying your elder has a responsibility for the elder to take good care of the younger, and they didn't, they completely let those children and their families down. The footage of the parents is so heart breaking and makes me so angry. BTS embodies this social responsibility concept beautifully, just look how the Hyungs took such good care of young Jungkook and what a beautiful human being he became under their care and now he takes care of them.

I was moved to actually watch a few documentaries after I watched the Italian Army's explanation of Spring Day. It took me a while to absorb. It is a lot to take in but I needed to investigate it. The degree of discomfort I felt was nothing to what the families and friends of those lost felt. Thanks for reacting to this. I discovered after watching the documentaries that this tragedy was even worse than I thought it was. I can't even list all the wrongs that were committed.

    - The Spring Day mv is truly a masterpiece and Italian ARMY did an amazing job on the explanation video. She has even spoken on the subject at a South Korean forum.
    - I think that South Korea has changed a lot even since then fortunately, though it's still very conservative in some regards.
    - The ferry was carrying more than six times the weight it was originally designed for to make extra money per trip. Most of the illegal modifications placed the weight at the top and when it shifted it made the ferry tip over.
    - It wasn't the usual captain that day. He had raised concerns about the safety onboard and had been removed for it.
    - The captain on the day is currently serving 36 years for murder and several crew members were convicted of murder, negligence, violating marine laws, etc.
    - Heartbreaking fact: A lot of the existing footage from inside the ferry was shot by students with cellphones and sent before they died. 💔
(This is all from the very detailed and graphic Wikipedia page on the tragedy)
    - While the song itself wasn't written about the Sewol tragedy, the video, album cover and title definitely refer to it.
    - When asked if it referred to a specific event Jin said in an interview with Esquire Nov. 2020 that "it is about a sad event but also about longing".
    - So you see, you're not as far off as you might think.
    - Believe it or not but the thing you said about politics and generations actually leads you naturally into Baepsae, a fun but very political song of theirs. And yes this one should definitely be explained as well (by DKDKTV) - the choreography won't really make sense otherwise 😂 - but man is it a banger.

This is just ONE interpretation of the music video. The song itself wasn't written for or about the tragedy. BTS themselves have explained the meaning of the song, that it is about lost friendships and they wrote it about very specific personal stories. (RM about high school friends that he lost contact with and Suga about a friend he grew apart from) The music video used that song to pay tribute to the tragedy. So the song itself definitely has the meaning you are speaking about and about friendship in general. I wish people would understand this and not try to spread misinformation that the song was written about or for the tragedy, just the music video was. In fact, Suga alludes to Spring Day in his mixtape with the song 'Dear My Friend', using the same theme, some of the same lyrics, and a part of the same background chorus vocals, so you know he wrote Spring Day about the same particular person 'Dear My Friend' is about.

Spring day is my number 1 fav song of BTS because I reminisce the things happened 7years ago while watching the mv and it always help me to keep going in life and do not give up on things that i want to achieve

RM had said that when he wrote the song it was about the lose of someone and missing them. So ur first impression was correct.
The song took on a whole different tone to the group after the tragedy. They felt it was important to them to do this video. For their people. To try and help them heal. And to this day it is still on the Korean Charts. One of the longest running songs on their charts.
The crew was extremely selfish, the capitan and his crew told the kids to stay in place, (those were actual videos from the ferry from students who sent them to their parents). Than these jackasses changed their clothes and went out to the bow. Told the rescue boats that they were civilians and were rescued first. The president of the country was a batch. When told of the tragedy she told her assistant not to bother her with such news cause she had a headache. Told her to come back in two hours and than if it was that important that they would talk about than. This is not my opinion this is info that came out during her impeachment trail.
There were 3 or 4 civilian divers that tried to go down for the children...one brought several up....but after two weeks he was stopped. He felt so guilty that we lost him to.
There is so much to this story...BTS is the kind of group of guys that won't stand by and stay silent. But this was their way of speaking up...

It never gets “easier”, as people may think. The day it stops breaking my heart is the day I stop nursing. It’s what makes us human. Here, it’s not just the loss of so many, but the outrage because it should never have happened, and the injustice in how the aftermath was handled. These were mostly children. And they died because they obeyed the instructions to stay in their cabins, instead of abandoning the ship like the captain and many of the crew (of course, the ferry should never have been overloaded, should never have sunk). “Outrage” is too mild a descriptor.
When the ferry tragedy happened, in early 2014, Jimin and Tae had just graduated high school a month or two before, and Jungkook was still at school, possibly a similar age, I think, as many of the kids on the ferry.
    🙏💜

And then the corruption and the madness, and greed had to be remembered. We can’t become desensitized to death and corruption, and yes I believe the youth of today ain’t letting nuthin slide!!!! Bravo to them! In a true BTS journey the Spring Day reaction is necessary. Glad it was not totally spoiled for you. ROSCOE they got a tons of fun stuff still to come. This a copy of the comment I made on another channels reaction. I struggle to re-type it, so copy and paste it is.
As of today (25 Dec 2021), President Park (she was president at the time of the tragedy), has just been pardoned. There was an article about it in the newspaper yesterday. I arrived in Korea in early June of 2014 and the grief was still palpable - the park across the road from our hotel was the main camp for the yellow ribbon campaign. We were there in transit for a couple of days on our way to somewhere else. A month later we did the same transit back, and the grief was still just as palable then. Watching these parents and knowing they had been doing this since April was heartbreaking (I was travelling with two of my children at the time, one of whom was the same age as some of the students). Thank you for taking the time to dig into this, and thank you for the mental health awareness work that you do on your channel (I’ve also gone through that with my kids!).

It hurts my heart to know that you think you 'got it wrong" yesterday. Music is about connecting and if the music/video connected with you in one way but connects with someone else in a different way that doesn't mean that one of you "got it wrong". Please remember that these "explanation" videos are theories and/or how the music/video connected with the person that made them. I absolutely loved the video you made yesterday, the connections you made were genuine, heartfelt, and I will never believe there are not other people in the world who have watched that video, read those lyrics, and had the same thoughts/impressions. With that being said, I am sure there are those that will disagree with me, and that's okay. 💜💜💜

Art is always up to interpretation. RM wrote the song about losing a friend, whether it was just drifting apart or a fight, etc. The MV visuals was more in remembrance to the tragedy. Due to the political climate at the time they had to be careful how they did the video. It is personal for everyone in their own way so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Borahae 💜

You have to remember, BTS is multi-layered. When they make their music and mvs, they have the message from the top layer or what the general public (those that don't deep dive aka ARMY) will see and hear. You peel off the top layer and there is a whole other meaning to it. This is what makes them so brilliant and different. Yesterday, you saw it from the gp eye, which is correct. Today you saw it from the deep dive level, which is correct ALSO.
So, either way, it wasn't wrong.

I do not think the way you explained this is correct. The overarching theme is about loss and hope. And the MV alludes to the tragedy. But the song was written about very specific personal experiences. None of these are "deeper" or "more important" or "more meaningful" than the other.

Hi Roscoe, thank you for your sincere reactions.
Here is what the italian Army commented on another reactors channel:
"This video took me 2 months of researches.. the more I discovered, the more I wanted to know. I cried so much too, while doing this, but I had to do it; it became like a mission.
In 2019 I was invited to a 3-days conference about BTS that was held in Seoul and in that days I was able to go to Ansan to meet some of the relatives of the victims. They watched this video too, and it was a moment I'll never forget. I hugged some of the mothers, I watched the pictures of their lost children they showed me, I visited the school and many little memorial places and cried with them. They are people very compassionate and strong, still fighting for the truth and for having justice. As much as I know, in 2022 a Memorial Park will be built in Ansan. I hope and pray that a tragedy like this will never ever happen again.
I also admire Korean people. Their peaceful Candlelight Protest was a historical event full of meaning, and very inspiring. It shows that if we as simple citizens come together, peacefully but full of motivation, we can change things, as they did. And as BTS (and ARMY) are doing in their field and in their own way." - ITALIAN ARMY -
Even though its hard to watch, its a way to not forget about the victims.
A civil diver later commited suicide because he was hounted by the voices of the kids who asked him to not leave them behind.
And the vice principal who organized the field trip took his life few days after the tragedy. He wanted his ashes to be scattered over the site of the accident "that I might be a teacher in heaven to those kids whose bodies have not been found"
As long as our loved ones remain in our memories they live on...

The music video Spring Day was produced by "Lumpens" a South Korean video production company formed and led by art director Yong-seok Choi.

My dad is a former Marine too and Vietnam Veteran with PTSD and this video was hard for him and couldn't finish it. My oldest son is another former Marine and retired 2 years ago because of PTSD. To this day he won't tell me his exact job only says Logistics. What broke the camel's back was when he was stationed in Washington DC he witnessed two of his friends commit suicide inside the base in front of him and his best friend. That was too much for both of them and they retired together. Keep in mind that my was 22 years old two years ago.

I just cried my eyes and heart out, it is very sad that this tragedy and MV are connected to give goosebumps as we feel angry, sad and powerless seeing this happens and wondering where humanity went. I can't imagine how lonely, empty and painful it was for those victims to die there so miserably watching pple whom are supposed to help them just standing still, and it's harder for the families to see their beloved ones dying and can not do anything, what makes us angry more is that even the intentions to help were controlled by gov as artists and pple were put on the blacklist for showing sympathy as humans, it is amazing how this MV spring day is there for the families and survivors to never forget what happen and to urge people to know about this tragedy and take it as an example so in the future we never let this happens again🥺 I'm now off to the funny compilation of BTS goofing around as my heart aches at my helplessness in the world😢

The Snowpiercer film that was referenced in the song is good, it stars Chris Evans. Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris, John Hurt and many others are also in it. It's directed by south korean director Bong Joon-ho, he also directed the Parasite film that got a lot of attention at the Oscars.
And like everyone says, you're not wrong in your interpretations at all. All personal interpretations are correct, because whatever the song means to you is what it means. Whatever you feel when you hear the song is the correct feeling. It's your subjective experience and feelings, and who can say any of that is wrong?

Hi, I am back. Ty for the honest reaction. I wanted u to hear this one because of what u said during YOUR STORY. Hugs. I love this song. It's so beautiful. I cried a little because you were crying. I did not cry when I heard the song or saw the video for the 1st time. It did touch my heart though. One of my fav's for sure. The first time I heard the song was in Dear Class Of 2020. If you have not watched pls do. It's awesome. I loved this performance a lot. Spring Day for me is a sad hopeful song. I get melancholy feels from it. Watch DKDKTV explanation video too. It's so good. There are a few explanation vids. Some have more detail than the others. This song is a Queen because its on the charts so many years. Stores play it in Korea because ppl want to remember and never forget. BTS made this to help ppl remember. I think that's just amazing! Parts of your theory still work. This song can be about missing someone who passed away, moved away, etc. just like RM said. But it is so much more. The director and staff were amazing. The guys emoted so well. stay safe. -2019 ARMY NY USA 💜
the reason they cant openly say things (like criticism) about politics or government is because of the extreme backlash and banning they'll get so they have to be subliminal about it. a good example is their song "am i wrong" with a strong message that you need to dig into. spring day won the hearts of the south Korean public and it is forever going to be in the charts (our queen, spring day)
it actually was confirmed. they cant go into too much details due to the govt was censoring artists and blacklisting them during the time of the tragedy and its still a very sensitive subject.
however in 2020 BTS did a interview with Esquire and the journalist asked them about spring day here's the direct quote "I ask whether it was about a specific sad event, and Jin tells me, “It is about a sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing.” The song kept the disaster front of mind for young Koreans and for the media, indirectly leading to the impeachment and removal of then president Park Geun-hye."
you should read the entire article its one of the few times western media did a good job reporting on BTS.

Only 1:31 minutes into your video and already I have to interrupt to write a short comment:
you were not off with your theories, you're theories are as valid as the one of everybody else who took the time to not just watch 'Springday' but to try to makes sense of the images and the lyrics. 'Springday' talked to you and touched you on a very personal level. So even if the writers had something else in mind and other ARMYs already have absorbed the respective theories of what 'Springday' is supposedly about, you cannot be off.
I really think that that we have to differentiate between the lyrics and the musicvideo. The lyrics of 'Springday' are more generally about loss and longing for someone and the hope of being able to come to terms with that one day, while the MV is referencing that specific very sad korean springday, which you will hear about in that explanation video.
But none of us who isn't korean or hasn't lived in Korea would have been able to catch up on the references on our own. We can watch it without knowing all of this and still get that it is about loss, grief, remorse, memories and still hope. I don't think you were off at all.

Spring day is the universal song for grieving. I have lost my dad in 2015 and I listen to this song to grieve and smile. I can sing the entire song by now. Also, this among with most of the songs of BTS is a testament of NamJoon (RM's) genius and book nerd intellect. He pulls from various classical literary sources and contemporary lit pieces. Recognizing profit driven media (all forms) as a tool for programming, fear mongering and its effect on the collective is an awakening indeed. I REALLY appreciate you for expressing your truth! 💜 Along those lines, I don't "agree" or vibe with everything BTS does, but I take what resonates with me and leave the rest. As with all art forms, we are all impacted in different ways and interpret things through our personal lens. What I do love about them is the powerful impact they, and their music have on many people on their journey of self reflection, self healing, self love and opening up to new experiences, and supporting others. I also see them as human beings who are growing and learning like we all are. I hope you'll find the time to watch the live interpretative dance performance and dance practices of this song. I sent the links in your previous Spring Day MV reaction. I find the dance uplifting.
Carousel - the musical was a favourite of my late beloved parents. My family are musical buffs particularly die hard fans of the classics (Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Leslie Caron, Gordon MacRae, Howard Keel, Debbie Reynolds eras etcetc) . So Carousel being depicted in the music video along with the eternal "You'll Never Walk Alone" phrase - a much loved song in this musical holds a very special meaning for me.
Here are those hopeful lyrics that give me strength through current adversities:
"When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
    There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you'll never walk alone"
