It's ok to interpret Sping Day as a romantic love song. I mean, yes, the lyrics were written about grieving lost friendships, and yes, the music video alludes to mourning the death of the children who lost their lives in that tragedy... But, in general terms, it is a song about "missing people you love and longing for a time when you can reunite with them". And ultimately, everyone can have their own interpretation, your personal interpretation is always valid. And of course, regardless of how emotionally attached many people are to this song, it doesn't mean you have to like it. Everyone has their own preferences.

Absolutely, for me, Spring Day is about grief and I apply that to my broken family. I would rather people have the option to feel what Spring Day means for them before being told what other people believe is the "right" theory.

@@lobaetoile8440 not really sure why you felt the need to shout "their story" at me, aside from being rude, the Sewol Ferry isn't the only thing BTS thought of when they wrote Spring Day. I remember RM said he wrote it in a park thinking about friends he missed. For Suga he was thinking about his childhood/teen best friend who got into drugs and went to prison. The music video also makes specific reference to suicide and while that can be linked to The Sewol Ferry Tragedy, South Korea also has one of the highest suicide rates of developed countries in the world and BTS have all been affected by suicide to varying degrees. Even to BTS, Spring Day has multiple meanings and there is no "right one." They didn't perform Spring Day all through the pandemic because they were thinking of The Sewol Ferry Tragedy, they performed it because they and other people were feeling isolated and lonely and were grieving for the life and the people this pandemic has taken from us. There is no one right story or meaning, not to BTS.
I hope you and your loved ones are happy, healthy and safe and that you have a lovely rest of your day 😊

At the time of the Sewol ferry disaster, President Park was the daughter of a president who had been in dictatorship several decades ago and was supported by conservative groups. During the dictatorship, the generation that experienced rapid social development at the expense of many working-class people after the Korean War. They missed President Park Chung-hee and believed that his daughter would do well, but she only cares about her appearance and has no interest in victims. Celebrities who mentioned the Sewol ferry at the time were put on a blacklist and put at a disadvantage. BTS, who donated to the bereaved family and made a music video for Spring Day, was also targeted.
Many Koreans were depressed and traumatized for a long time because of the disaster. But they were just sad or angry and couldn't stay still. I went out on the streets for several months until spring, raising my voice and crying out to reveal the truth of the disaster. At that time, the president had no interest in saving the people from the disaster, but used it politically, discussed and decided on state affairs with a woman close to her personal relationship, and she was only interested in pursuing personal interests. Critics of the regime were blacklisted and treated unequal. BTS was hated by the government at the time for comforting and donating to the families of the victims of the disaster. After that, the angry people held candlelight protests for several months, and in that cold winter, millions of citizens peacefully protested the president and impeached the president. I hope this never happens again anywhere else.

There are so many more who are positive and welcoming but the unpleasant fans may seem to be overpowering. I am in my 70s (many of their fans are older) and BTS brought the love of music back into my life. I will always be grateful for that. I love all their different genres including their rap. Their lyrics are usually deep and beautiful. Many of their songs have explanation videos which you may find helpful if you want to look past the surface meanings. @@ALovelyPenguin While recognizing that there are those who are just plain toxic and those who are rude, after several years of following the comment sections of BTS filled content it has become very clear to me that there are MANY who don't speak English losing a lot in translation. In their misunderstanding they often take offense where none was given. Humor, sarcasm, idiom, and cultural issues don't seem to translate well and combined with some false preconceptions, that can cause some negative responses. I don't say this to excuse nasty comments, but just to make you more aware of some of the issues that come with such a global fandom. Since you didn't think anyone would be watching your first reaction, and ARMY, well over 35 million strong globally, is so well known for showing up in droves, I'm thinking you must know extremely little about who is responding to you in addition to knowing so little about the group. The next year they didn't do Germany and we had no money to travel to Paris or London. Then we were so happy for 2020 concerts here and then BAM, Corona hit and destroyed everything.
I'm still crossing fingers it will happen this year, but since unlike the US there will be less shows in Europe, the buying process will be even more crazy, Germany sits in the middle of Europe and everyone from the North, South and especially East and Middle Europe will try to get here.

I’m an old metal head who became Army over the past year. BTS has blown me away. They have an amazing discography, they consistently present as humble, thoughtful, and funny. It’s refreshing in today’s world. In general, Army is a beautiful fandom, super helpful and willing to listen to different opinions. I cannot tell you what an amazing experience it was to go to one of BTS LA concerts, the people at the concert were fantastic, not at all the experience I’ve had at other concerts. Ignore the negative/aggressive people, you’ll get lots of comments from the rest of Army with good suggestions. I would recommend specific songs for you, but I don’t know what you like. As a metal head, I love the rap pieces and would highly recommend any and all of them - the Cyphers are great, but some of them you’ll want to watch an explanation video (dkdktv ones are always good) or you’ll miss critical pieces of what makes the songs so amazing. But there’s more rock like stuff, R&B, funk, jazz, EDM, pop, etc. I personally love a lot of the b-sides such as Paradise, Rain, Tomorrow, House of Cards, as well as tons of their solo songs such as Stigma, Lie First Love, and pretty much all of their solo non-BTS stuff such as Agust D (aka SUGA aka Min Yoongi)’s, RM’s and J-Hope’s mixtapes. I hope you do explore more of their work and I think you’ll come to understand just why their fandom is so big and so enthusiastic.

@@ALovelyPenguin I’m going to suggest you start off with Daechwita MV. That is where I started. It was a very odd YT rec that came out of nowhere and I only listened to it because I was in a severe depression and it reminded me of some of the Hong Kong martial arts indie films I used to watch a long time ago and remembered with happiness. It’s from Agust D’s D2 mixtape, and the MV is stunning. At the top layer it’s a diss track, but dig down and it’s actually about his inner struggle with fame. He plays both the corrupt King and the rebel peasant. In my mind, I’ve connected it to his BTS song Interlude:Shadow because of the underlying message. I would check that out as well. His BTS stage name is SUGA, so Shadow is under that. My 2nd favorite band after BTS is Tool. I saw them in concert at an Oz Fest once, they were amazing. Turns out they have something in common with BTS in that both have music inspired by Jungian Philosophy and the map of the soul. I would then recommend you listen to House of Cards. That will give you a feel for the vocal line’s talents. And then the 4 Cyphers from the rap line. Those start off as diss tracks (and I saw one of the interviews and support their dissing fully, it was brutal and cruel) but the last one, the last one is where they win. Because they say - look, we now know ourselves, and we’ve learned to love ourselves with all our flaws, we no longer are full of hatred and anger about what you (the collective you of the underground rap scene where 2 of them started) did, and we suggest you learn to love yourself as well. If you then want to see more popular well-I known stuff, I highly recommend Blood Sweat & Tears (and read up on it, super deep), Fake Love (beautiful at the obvious level, super deep, and connected to their BU alternative universe storyline), and Idol (which is tripping and deliberately so, it’s another, very elegant hit back at their haters, this time from the Idol side). All of those are more pop-like, which I generally don’t like, but BTS has taught me that well done pop music is actually good music. Then there is Black Swan, which feels like it comes out of left field but is about something so important and personal to me as it is based on Martha Graham’s quote about how a dancer dies two times, and the first time, when they stop dance, is the most painful. Sorry for the essay.

If you're going down the rabbit hole, every song that sounds like it's about romantic love - it almost never is. There are a very small handful and they're generally pretty old, representing a time when they were still finding themselves as artists. So, when you're looking at lyrics, if your go-to theory is that the song is about a girl - it almost certainly is not. Even when lyrics are translated and refer to "she", pronouns are not closely tied to gender in Korean and shouldn't be taken to reference a specific gender, normally. There are definitely some "hormone" songs, by they're from early in their career. The express strong love for each other and for their fans, for their families and for humans - so love can be a pretty expansive thing in the BTS universe.

I currently listen to BTS's full official catalog, from a Spotify playlist, in album release date order. I've been listening to and watching them for two-and-a-half years. There's so much to learn. Including to appreciate genres of music I did not used to be interested in. Every time I go through the playlist, I hear new things, even though I have probably played it through at least 100 times so far. That's how rich and interesting their canon is.
What ties me to them is their kindness, their good humor, their creativity, and their hard work. From those four things, BTS's art grows organically. If you get touched by BTS, heart-wise, they will feel like your friends.

I thought your reactions were genuine & honest..that’s all ARMYs (TRUE ARMYs) can ask for. I’m sure it’s controversial for me to say but in my opinion, men, mostly American men, tend to trash BTS, calling them derogatory names without even giving them a chance, so I applaud you for taking the time to check them out. I think xCeleste (another RUclipsr) once said, “why is it ok for men & boys to be so passionate for their favorite rock or metal band or sports team but degrade women & girls for being passionate for their favorite Pop band?” BTS fans come in all ages, genders, races, ethnicities but most think we are all just a bunch of screaming, hormonal teenage girls (which definitely exist in this fandom & we love them all)! 😁 We are 90 million strong & still growing, no way ARMY is made up of just preteens & teenagers … we older AMRYs scream just as loud & have more disposable income LOL!
I don’t know why but I always feel the need to say this… if you continue diving into BTS, please keep in mind that these men are Korean. They do not have the same cultural norms as people in the west. Korean Idols are known for their aesthetics. They use their looks, clothing, their ever changing hairstyles & hair color, jewelry, accessories and yes even makeup to convey the concept/theme of their albums, songs & performances to fully immerse their audience. Most all artists wear makeup & jewelry when performing or in photos, but when westerners see Korean male idols in makeup they are shocked & automatically make assumptions. Koreans, both men & women are also very openly affectionate with one another, it’s their norm. BTS members formed a brotherhood. They essentially grew up together since all were so young when they became trainees. They lived together in a dorm starting in 2010 & have endured many hardships together. They love one another as family & those not familiar with both their culture & their history, tend to make unwarranted assumptions when they see them interact.
BTS always convey love & positivity through their music & messages & even though their songs dissing the haters & those whom have hurt them really pack a punch, they never convey hate towards anyone….& their work ethic is insane! We could all learn so much from them & their culture. I hope you continue to remain open minded & hopefully you’ll come to see how talented, genuine, generous, thoughtful, kind, humble & truly funny/chaotic crackheads they are and why they are so loved by their fans & why we are so protective of them.
If you like hip hop/rap, I recommend RM, Suga & J-Hope’s mixed tapes. “Do You” & “Joke” by RM & “Interlude:Shadow” & “Daechwita” by AgustD (aka Suga), “Mama” & “Hope World” by J-Hope.
I absolutely love “D’Daeng”, Ugh” & “Outro:Tear” by all 3 of the rappers. All have deep, true meanings behind them and such genius word play! Live versions & MV’s are best to get the full effect vs lyric videos which many have incorrect translations & explanation videos are a must in order to get many of the cultural meanings. I was never a rap fan before BTS but these men are lyrical geniuses.
Songs by just the vocalists (aka the vocal line) are also masterpieces, “Truth Untold” & “House of Cards”, & some solo songs, “Stigma” & “Singularity” by V, “Epiphany” & “Awake” by Jin, “Lie” & “Filter” by Jimin & “Euphoria” & “Begin” by Jungkook. Again live versions are usually always better than the MV’s.
Many songs mix in both Korean & English but, keep in mind, Korean translations to English are not exact & may seem strange at first. The Korean words rhyme but translations to English often don’t rhyme & cultural references are often missed by westerners.
ARMYs love to discover reactors who take the time to get to know BTS & we can be very kind & generous to those who are honest & genuine, whether you like their music or not, it’s ok. At the same time, ARMY can be ruthless to those that use BTS for clout, views or subscriptions.
Sorry for being so wordy but as you should know by now, we are very passionate about BTS.

During some of their VLives, several tell us they removed their makeup (especially after the concert) & hope ARMY doesn’t think they look bad. This reaction was great . The explanation of Italian ARMY for this song just breaks me. I think I understood why ARMY reacted that way. Because of BTS isn't a band you should just take in Face value. And this song is really layered with personal stories and symbolism for the tragedy. For those saying it isn't about the tragedy they might not be informed that they did confirm it. This tragedy is still being censored out despite President Park (president during the time of tragedy)got impeached.

Here's what the songs meant: since the song represents the sewol ferry tragedy let me explain what's it about.
Sewol ferry tragedy: so these highschool students had a field trip to go to an island. And more than 400 students went to the boat and they all decided to sit settle in. They were having a blast listening to music, fireworks, and etc. However the next day... It happened.. it was 8am some highschool students were sleeping others were awake. So while they were going to the island there's this thing called the "maddeling channel" it's the most common and the most dangerous and the quickest route. There were different routes but the captain decided to take the risks and go there. In the middle of this maddeling channel the boat was 15 degrees left and this boat cannot handle more than 5 degrees angle left. The captain knew that the boat was gonna sink 100 percent and he decided to rescue himself and lie to the rescue that everyone was safe and that he was a student. The president all she wanted was a video to see how serious it is but they didn't send rescues. First the rescue came late second the only ppl who rescued the highschool students were the fisherman. He tried to save much students as possible. While the captain escaped there were 3 crew members who declined and helped the kids. They all died at the end but the youngest crew member was only 22 she was a child herself saving kids. She was handing out life vessels to them. And in Korea it's cold in April so the water was cold to. Only 72 highschool students survived more than 300 highschool students died. R.I.P FOR EVERYONE WHO DIED

Since you mentioned materialist things it reminded me of their song Spine Breaker which is basically dissing kids who always ask for expensive stuff at the expense of their parents having to break their spines working for it. There was no music video for it then they made a homemade music video for it in a hotel room by themselves for fun. Thank you for taking the time to learn very much appreciate the thoughtful approach. This song and MV show why the song has been on Korean charts for 5 years with no break. The Queen of their catalog. The song itself was written about losing someone close to you and is both sad and comforting but the MV is a very layered political and social are infamous for layering more meaning into the non English songs (the 3 English songs are all light pop actually unusual for them). They made this song her. It could have cost them slot and gotten them black listed. Army is a lot and I apologize for us being an overwhelming wave it’s hard because no one is ever ready for Spring Day. If you like social commentary songs try Not Today it was released after Spring Day as a bit of a rallying cry for social change and has lyrics that are quotes from Martin Luther King. Am I Wrong is a song written after a politician called the people “dogs and pigs” and again they not only risked backlash for the song they performed it a lot with enthusiasm. Since their first song they have been making social commentary and that is partially why Army is so protective of them. For a video that is just extra layers of symbolism you can try out Blood Sweat and Tears or Fake Love both could (and I think even have had) thesis papers written about their symbolism plus are just banger songs.

And on top of that there's a third level connecting this mv to what is known as the BU (Bangtan Universe) which is a fictive storyline running through a lot of their mvs connected with short stories, mobile game, speeches, pictures etc.. It's a huge and complicated rabbit hole that takes some skill in understanding and breaking down what you see. Rule of thumb with BTS = nothing is coincidental, EVERYTHING has a meaning (almost everything). Clothing, lightning, directions, sounds, eastereggs, metaphores, references to anything ...

Ty for taking the time to react to this video. I would like to comment on a few things. Firstly when it comes to the meaning of BTS songs there are usually 3 layers. The lyrics, the MV, and the Artist's intent.
With BTS the visuals in the video don't always correspond to the lyrics so you really should take them as two separate things. BTS themselves have also said that they don't always like to say what a song is about so that the listener can take their own meaning from it.
That takes us to the fourth layer in BTS' music - what it means to the person listening to it. Some see Spring Day as a song of loss and longing, some see it as a tribute to the Sewol Ferry tragedy, and some see at as a song of hope that no matter how bad things may be, better things can be just around the corner. And none of these are wrong. Ultimately any song has 2 meanings - what the artist felt in making it and what the listener feels on hearing it.
That being said I would like to recommend a song for you 'FAKE LOVE'.
You said that you do set design and I think this MV will totally blow your mind and if you like what you see in the MV there is a behind the scenes where they show how they accomplished this visual masterpiece.
The visuals will not match the lyrics since the song is about Fake Love and the visuals are a part of a fictional story that runs through a bunch of videos and more (but don't worry about that too much - you don't have to know the storyline to enjoy it, the storyline is more of a subtext that is emphasized by certain things like the chocolate bars - you'll see what I mean by this if you watch it).
Also one last thing. In reacting to BTS official MV's you will not get a copywrite strike but you will get a copywrite claim. Some people confuse the two and panic.
Thank you for your reaction and I look forward to more.

I do understand though that this is something you would like to be able to devote more time to and possibly have it as your main source of income as opposed to a supplementary one.
A lot of reactors (not just people who react to BTS) usually open a 'Patreon' where they can upload their reactions that might get blocked or get strikes on them if they just put them on RUclips. @@ALovelyPenguin I’d like to support OP’s words by sort of disagreeing slightly with one point. If you decide to watch Fake Love (there are two versions, I recommend you the extended ‘rock’ version one-more visuals), it’s true that it heavily draws on the story OP mentions and you won’t find the song itself expressed profoundly. That said, the song is also present in the visual. I very much appreciate the fact that the makers of the MV balanced the song itself with the other story.
But it may depend on how you perceive the fake love message. As OP said, no interpretation is wrong, BTS themselves prefer us to take what we feel or perhaps even need there. So for example I saw a lot of fans perceiving Fake Love as a song related to how love can be fake in relation to another person, in romantic sense or other. BTS themselves explicitly said about this song that it’s fine to see it that way. But they also spoke about another meaning, hinting that this meaning is more what they were thinking about - fake love addressed to oneself. That the “you” in the lyrics is not directed at other ppl, it’s internal monologue.
For me, even if I see the other story references, when watching the MV, I see it quite strongly as illustration of the song, although maybe lyrical in sense. BTS MVs are not made to be an exclusive club so they tend to be made in a way that can be grasped by ppl who are not familiar with them too. Finding the story OP mentioned there, in a way, is one big Easter egg.
So perhaps I encourage you to let yourself also see how you feel about it. You don’t have to share it, just for yourself. That, I believe, is what both the BTS and their team aim at.
Anyway, I once studied film school and while these MVs weren’t exactly the style I was originally interested in, I quickly became a fan of it and of their main director - Lumpens. A cool guy, I have to say. A whole new world opened for me.

This is the first video of yours I've ever watched. Just from the intro I had to go check out your previous reaction. I honestly didn't find anything at all offensive or anything with it. like what??? But we appreciate the respect in this video for sure! While the Sewol Ferry tragedy is definitely one of the inspirations for this song and music video, BTS has said and shown time and time again that they want their music, their art, to open to many interpretations. This is actually one of their first songs where they began leaving pronouns out of their lyrics to make it open to a wider interpretation. Not just explicitly of a male singing to a female. So that each listener could personalize what they need the song to mean to them.
So to me there really is no wrong interpretation. However this song does have a weighty history so fans tend to respect and protect it a lot. So sorry on behalf of my fandom for any rudeness we brought to your channel. (How could people be rude on a channel literally called "ALovelyPenguin?") The teacher, who had never heard of the author, and was skeptical of a modern fantasy, had tears in her eyes at the end. I think it is as powerful as Atwoo'ds 'The Handmaid's Tale'.

@@ALovelyPenguin That is an individual "who is BTS". I think it is quiet good but individual is always... we reflect ourselves on them - we are human - so sometimes it is what we see in them and less who they are. Skills are maybe easier to pin down but you can forget something or exagerate other.
Personally I find *XCeleste overview* "This is BTS" , "This is Army" and her 2021 updated (there are two videos) hardship video.
*bby* *gang* *mag* has some really interesting video essays like "BTS vs. KPOP" as the topic is very nuanced.
The best is *"The* *Rise* *of* *Bangtan"* -series which is a bit long but has tons of context. The Bonus content is very funny. You will love how she has done her viid and how nuanced she builts the contrast only by voices of other people and their videos: official content, youtubers, documentaries, conent of award shows, concerts etc.
"what you still don't know about BTS Spring Day" (I think) by Italian Army is better in the details/nuances. Honestly I don't like the explained video people choose the most. It presses too much on their own opinion. For example I went frame by frame ("," and "." are usefull for that) and didn't see the clothes outside the train. it looks more like a bush or something to me. If you read the comments - or at least when I did - there were still people that doubted the Sewol connection as it is more implied.
Personally I see more mourning that rebelling in the MV. Some stuff seems more about memories and mourning than seeking justice. The video does hit important points but I think Italian Army made it better. She also met some family members of Sewol victims and talked to them. Professor Jiyoung Lee is a Korean philosphy professor and not exactly young. She has written a book about them and was at conferences talking about BTS already years ago. She actually named the video by Italian Army one time when she talked about the book and BTS and why they are different and why they caught someone of her age's interest.
Korean people say that the song is the perfect embodiment of the Korean emotion "Han". Which has to do with Korean history and being foreign ruled multiple times by more powerfull neighbour countries.
Koreans have a strict hierarchy so most of thiose teenagers followed the order. But the captain and crew were on the upper deck at their "workplace" by than. Since the ship lay on it's side at that point the passangers could no longer leave easily but the crew had it easy when the one formal rescue vessal came. Passengers in the water were rescued by civilians who noticed the problem and were than pushed away so they couldn't try to break for example windows to get people out.
Rap Monster was his stage name but Namjoon Kim prefers RM now and is a little embaressed about his younger self. It could be interpreted as "real me".
I'm sorry if I come over as rude in this comment or in my first. I didn't mean to be.
There are a lot of other genres in their discographie. (almost 300 songs) some even change the genre in the middle of a song and it fits.
(and we need the not so postive emotions as well as being sad is a part of life. How do we know we are happy or life is good if we never experienced the opposite? Not to mention if we ignore those emotions we will have more sleepless nights and/or eventual a breakdown - which is what for example a midlife crisis is - a result of ignorance of your own emotions/hopes/dreams/your shadow)

I do agree a lot of music released these days in general are love songs! However, they have songs that do not fall in this category and I think it might've made some ARMY react because they felt you assumed that they make solely love songs to please the audience (like doing it for the attention or fan-service). I think by assuming that, it erases the sincerity and appreciation that BTS express in their music, words, and action. They have a lot of songs dedicated to their fans that take different shape instead of just love songs. (Def some love songs too) For example, their most recent releases are songs that have hopeful messages to try to cheer up fans during the pandemic. They also have songs like We are bulletproof: The eternal where they express the gratefulness of having fans support when they struggled during the beginning.
I think as you get to know their music, you really start to understand that their music is their sincere thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it ranges from themes like youth, desire, and issues in society, depression, and such. Needless to say, feel free to like or dislike certain things it's your opinion!

Speaking of the clothes and the shoes at the end, they have the huge meaning. The families of victims left some clothes and shoes the nearest seashore where the tragic happened. because they really wanted to give some warm ess to their kids who died in the cold water.
And also.. the round glass window in the washing machine means the window of the cabined the victIms got trapped.
    It was really heartbreaking story.

I appreciate your ability to recognize your mistakes and have an open mind to give yourself the opportunity to understand something that you do not understand beyond your first impression. Spring Day is a special song for us. It is also a tribute to the deceased students and a consolation for their relatives. It should be noted that the Korean government even made a blacklist where it put all the artists who supported and visualized this tragedy. Even BTS was blacklisted in their country for helping family members financially and visualizing the issue. If they were given a chance I'm sure you would resonate a lot with their lyrics, they talk about quite a few topics about how unfair their own society is.

Dear Mike, I don't know why the youtube algorithm put this video on my feed, but I am thankful.
The first video of yours I watched was a relatively recent one at the time - and you were already comfortable with BTS then... and watching this now (3:32) you've already pronounced the first 2 members in the video correctly... took me weeks of constantly saying their names. Well done.
Of course ARMY's are passionate, but some seem to take it a bit far and making the rest of us look bad - I'm sorry about them.
Just as you welcomed me to the waddle, I'd like to welcome you to ARMY.💜

Mike, this was a very interesting video. So, I have subscribed. Thank you for making the effort to see the explanation. There is no reason why you should understand the background. As you can understand those who do know the horrific reason behind it are very protective and sensitive to it, and rightly so. It is far worse than is stated in this explanation video. But the Italian documentary is incredibly difficult to watch. There is a huge genre BTS cover, so if there is any particular type of music you like, just let us know. Very few songs are actually romantic songs. Angry words are misplaced but BTS have had a lot of unfounded criticism and a knee-jerk reaction sometimes happens. If you are planning to do more BTS, and I hope you are, Introduction to BTS is very interesting. I am 47 years old, and am very impressed with BTS. They are far more interesting than regular bands. I hope you have managed to get through this ! Look forward to seeing more. 🇬🇧

I will say that there will be those who might come at you for getting stuff wrong or having a certain opinion, as army we are pretty protective at times but don't let those get you down, there are more of us who love to help in this journey and understand that you are coming from a space where you virtually do not know anything about BTS. I've been an army for 9 years, so I understand why some can be intense when it comes to BTS. Most of us are kind and welcoming, willing to help anyone who shows interest and wants to learn.
Spring Day is about love and loss, but it also alludes to the Sewol ferry tragedy in 2014. The beauty of music is that it speaks to everyone differently.
Learning about BTS, the stories behind their songs/videos, the symbolic meanings, etc is a journey in itself. After 9 years, I still find myself discovering new details I missed 2-3 years ago.
Also, the captain removed his uniform before abandoning the ferry. He was a coward who is serving a life sentence.

Before becoming an army I was a more into rock/punk/metal/grunge… BTS finds you when you need them the most. Life can be dark and scary. These guys know that. They have lived through it. They lets us know life is F*ed up but they will walk along side us and we will get through together. Deep dive into the lyrics and more videos of the meanings of their Music videos. They take you on a journey and you are all the better for it. They write poetry man. Even in the light hearted songs. Look up The Truth Untold Lyrics or Black Swan. You won’t be sorry.

Thank you for reacting to this! Anyone in Korea who was digging around the details of the ferry tragedy was heavily suppressed by their government. They deliberately let 300 students drown to death and sink with the boat, and then tried to cover it up..... I'm thinking probably something illegal was being smuggled on that boat that tied to people in power? In South Korea, artists aren't as free to give political criticism as they would be in America. BTS risked being blacklisted, banned, or otherwise suppressed/harrassed by people in power for making such a music video. That's why this song is still charting in South Korea, even after 5 years. It's not my type of song sound-wise, so it's not one of my favs from BTS, but I understand why it's beloved and important.
Besides social/political critical songs, they also get inspirations for their songs from psychology, philosophy, literature, art, Korean culture, films, as well as their personal stories and struggles, etc.
They even wrote a song based on Pluto being demoted as a planet haha, they use it as a metaphor. It's called 134340 (pluto's designated number), I love this song haha. It's like in the ambient genre of music, like chill lounge music but parts of it sounds like you're in space. But no music video, you can react to a lyric video when you get to it. One of their rappers RM was a primary songwriter for it, Suga and Jhope are also accredited as songwriters.
They also have a song called Whalien 52, it's got a similar theme as the Pluto song, but this time they used the 52 Hertz Whale as the topic. It's a real whale, you can Wiki it. It's said to the be the "loneliest whale on earth" cause it seems to be the only one of it's kind and the frequency of its calls can't be heard by any other species of whales. The title of the song is a combo of whale + alien. No music video again unfortunately, you can do a lyric video.
Yes, some of their songs do also talk about love and romance. But a lot of their songs are written in a way that it can have many meanings and be applied to different things. Songs about love can be written to apply to platonic friendships, family relationships, romantic love, the relationship you have with yourself, love towards your craft or passions, etc.
The 3 rappers wrote a song called Outro: Tear - it's a song with just the 3 of them, so it's purely a rap song. It's a song about heartbreak, so people might initially think it's about romantic love. But the rappers actually wrote the song when BTS was going through an extremely difficult time a few years ago and were on the verge of disbanding. They have a very close bond with each other like blood brothers, they lived and worked together, and have been together for a long time, so the thought of disbanding to them was literal heartbreak. So the rappers wrote the song dedicated to the other members of BTS. Though the listener can apply the lyrics however they want to. This is a very beloved BTS rap-line song, there's no music video, but here's an iconic performance at Wembley in england:
    ruclips.net/video/UDuaJGYe8EQ/видео.html
They wrote an entire album (Map Of The Soul 7) based on the works of the famous psychiatrist Carl Jung, the guy who founded analytical psychology. Their rappers RM and Suga in particular study a lot of psychology. Black Swan and Kinetic Manifesto On are on this album, people might have been recommending those. Each of the 3 rappers also has a solo song on this album, they each present different Jungian concepts:
    - Persona by RM
    - Shadow by Suga
    - Ego by J-Hope
I'll link you a very good "Intro To The 7 BTS Members" video by Taylor Nakamoto, hope you'll react to it (don't worry about long videos, viewers don't mind watching longer videos at all). This has the most up-to-date info and is the best made Intro vid so far. It's titled "draft" cause Taylor the girl who made it is still taking suggestions on how to improve it, but the vast majority of people who have seen it all agree her video is the best one. @@ALovelyPenguin no prob! And ok sure, you can do more music reactions first! Though the intro video will help you to differentiate the members faster, that will help you do your reactions and give you more context to comment on things. So that's one benefit of watching the Intro vid earlier. The intro vid also gives very short snippets of songs, so you can get an idea for the diversity of their songs. The Intro vid does touch on their music a lot, since it's a big part of who they are. So you will get to know more about their music through the intro vid too, not just their personalities or skillsets. But up to you when you want to watch it!
I hope you saw my other comment on your Spring Day music vid reaction, I gave you some recs for "emo/punk rock/metal" related BTS stuff haha. As well as their rap/hiphop stuff. I saw you mention in the comments those are genres you listened to.
It's okay to start more with BTS songs/content that fit your preferences first, viewers like to see the reactor find songs they actually genuinely like and would listen to on their own. And that's more likely to happen with songs from your preferred genre. Like I said in my other comment, a lot of BTS's most popular songs don't even have music vids so you can't gauge the popularity of a song by viewcount. Their title tracks lean more towards pop cause they're more for the mainstream (they're still good songs). But if you want to hear real diversity in their songs, you'll have to sprinkle in the less viral songs and songs without music vids too.
Don't be afraid to give your honest opinions, it's okay to not like songs. I certainly don't like every BTS song, there are some songs that I can't stand actually haha. But if you happen to hear something that you would actually listen to on your own time, do let us know!
But you might be surprised at what BTS songs you do like outside your preferred genres. I don't even listen to the rap/hiphop genre in general, but BTS's hiphop-heavy work are my favorites. They introduced me to rap/hiphop songs cause sometimes they sample from songs, and they gave me a lot of appreciation for old-school hiphop.

I'm sorry you got rude comments, man. I'm glad you gave them another shot. You seem nice, and I think you can find music in BTS's discography you would really like with a bit of time once you get to discover them more (if you want to, of course. No pressure). They have a VERY diverse repertoire, but since they've been tagged as a "boyband" or "k-pop group" by the media, people that aren't fans usually think they just sing pop and love songs, so I understand the misconception.
A little tip I'm gonna give you beforehand is that a good percent of BTS's songs that seem like a love song, in fact, are not. They use "girl" and seemingly "romantic love" more like metaphors than actual subjects very frequently, so don't get tricked! They might be talking about something else, and you will realize in due time, haha. If you want to discover their music, you can do it in whatever order you like, or ask people in the comments for guidance of what would be the best way to start. It's all up to you. Anyway, have a good day and hope that you have a fun journey with BTS if you decide to see what this is all about :D

Thank you for reacting to BTS! I'm sorry some army were negative to you, but the members face incredible amounts of racism, threats, undue criticism, and judgement due to people who hate them and preconceived ideas about them based on their appearance and other similar artists. And Army is VERY protective of them as a result. Sometimes it gets turned on people who don't understand because we are just so used to CONSTANTLY dealing with people attacking them, and attacking us as well. They are the kindest, most down to earth people despite their fame I've ever heard of, and they might not deserve everyone's love, but they deserve at the very least respect for their humanitarian efforts and philanthropy. Did you know they're the first musical artists to not only speak at, but perform at the UN? They partnered with UNICEF to raise awareness about violence towards children, also self love and acceptance. They also donated 1 million dollars to BLM, which Army matched in 24 hours. On their birthdays they don't have huge celebrations, they and Army organize charities and events to give back and make this world a better place. On one of Suga's birthdays Army planted thousands of trees in celebration and he hand made 300 cards to send to armies. Their songs are all written and produced by Them, and they always have deep meanings beyond what might be apparent on the surface.

I have not checked your previous reaction, but I'm grateful that regardless of rude comments you decided to stay humble and follow suggestions. For me, normally, people new to BTS would not know the deep meaning behind their songs, and how much their songs positively affect people's lives, also you may not be familiar with their history, hardships or Korean culture. It is all good. A person, who is curious and open-minded will learn, just like you are trying. A person, who has a good heart will fall for BTS, even if their music is not the person's cup of tea. So one more time. Thank you for being open-minded, showing understanding and empathy. 💜

I'm glad you're watching the Italian Army video on this song, because she really went deep in her deciphering of all the meanings and symbolism in it.

Hi. Thanks for this video. I would never condone anyone being mean or hateful, and I can say that with BTS coming from a small company and badly shunned for the beginning of their career and ARMY having to defend them so often, people are quick to fight. BTS has done so much for so many of us, that we do feel very passionately about them, so if someone doesn't understand or is quick to judge, emotions can run high. Again, it's never ok to be rude, but that miiiight put a little context behind some things.
There is a saying that "BTS finds you when you need them the most" and that means that their lyrics, being deep and impactful, have saved many people's lives. A vast majority of ARMYs will openly tell you that they might have been on the brink of suicide and a particular BTS song spoke to them, talking them off the ledge. I know that was the case for me and "Not Today". Thank you for being open to seeing the beauty in their art and maybe that will give a small glimpse into why we are so quick to defend them. They saved many of us and we will defend them to the bitter end. I want to see the best in everyone and I apologize for ARMYs that were hateful or rude. It's not what BTS stands for and we all know that. Emotions can do crazy things.

You didn't deserve to have people coming at you like that over a video. I'll apologize in behalf of those who went too far. Thank you for taking the time to react to BTS!

Bts is an aggressively positive group and their fans tend to also be positive but as the fandom grows so too does some of the negativity.

Many people are suggesting the explanation video by Italian Army. It is much more in depth, but I want to warn you that it is heart wrenching to watch.

Thank you for having an open mind. While first, pure reactions are often entertaining, I don't enjoy reactors who haven't taken the time to do a bit of preparation.

yea, I try to bring authenticity to each reaction. If I don't like something I will say. As much as I like you all, I am not going to lie to you just to appease. I did learn that I need to be more prepared for these videos, that is for sure! it's tough trying to keep reactions genuine while knowing what to expect, but I think I am getting the hang of it! Bear with me!!!

I know this is a year old video but I just feel compelled to comment on every Spring Day video explanation reaction video I watch lol - nowadays, if a tragedy where hundreds of kids drowned on a school trip, you'd feel for sure you'd hear about it in the news yet this tragedy did not become well known, hence the proof that the government covered it up. Authorities prohibited parents, other boats nearby etc from trying to save the kids themselves, while official services were told not to go save them (corrupt). Also the Spring Day song and mv just shows how brilliant BTS are, they know as a "boy band" they can make songs that just sound like love songs on the surface and authorities would not look twice (there was a ban on speaking about the tragedy in media) but for those who know or pay attention will know the real meaning behind it. They truly use their music and platform for good these guys ^^

The more one gets to know about the Sewol ferry desaster and the way it was handled, the more one gets furious. Especially as a parent.
BTS with their boss have visited some families of the victims after the desaster and the company donated money to a fund, but they have done this in secret not as a promotion move, since at that time the president had blacklisted artists, that spoke openly about this/criticized it. (Probably why the song is full of symbolism but doesn't mention anyting directly.) It only came to light later when the families themselves spoke about it, when BTS became big. People also assume that is was close to BTSs heart, since most of the students on that ferry were Jungkooks age, born in 1997, kinda like it could have been him.
Side fact: Spring Day hasn't left the top 100 in South Korea after even 5 years. It's seems it's not just the fans of BTS but also citizens who see the song as a way to not forget and keep it floating.

We understand you. Anyway, just remember that these 7 Bangtans are armys HEALERS. You may not understand yet now but just think WHY? Being curious is your way to discover them more and learn for yourself. That's the reason why We, armys are so protective of them. Perhaps, you start your journey with BTS by reacting to Xceleste or Taylor Nakamoto -Who is BTS? Surely, you will be surprised of the immense talent these boys have.

I'm very sorry some commenters can be unnecessarily rude. Sadly there are a lot of people that are extremely judgmental and have negative, preconceived opinions about BTS and k-pop in general even thoughh they know nothing about it and even more so about the fans themselves, so a part of the fandom can be overly sensitive. I've been into kpop for over a decade and I've lost count of the times I've been talked to in a rude manner simply for mentioning I like Korean music. We get treated as if we are all "silly little girls that only care about the pretty boys" then get mocked and told we are "toxic stans" when we try to defend ourselves or explain why we like it. One can only take so much mockery before you reach a boiling point. Hopefully the people prone to be a bit on the sensitive side sees that you seem to be a very genuine person and don't give you too hard of a time. I enjoyed both this and the previous video and I hope you don't let them perturb you from checking out more BTS if that is something you wanna do 😊
