After watching the Festa dinner, I felt exactly like you did. I saw everything through a completely different lens. I felt like they had been telling us all along how they had been feeling and what was coming. I especially had that realization when I went back and watched a video from when they had their Las Vegas concert in April. Jungkook made the remark that it wasn’t going to be the last time, that it never would be. I thought it was kind of odd that he said that because why would anyone be thinking it would be the last time. In hindsight, they already knew that it would be their last concert for a while. It was interesting going back and connecting all of the dots. Much love. 💜

It's impossible for me not to rethink everything through "post Festa Dinner Eyes" now. I am now looking at everything since ON with a different view. Black Swan's lyrics alluding to loosing the passion for the craft...even more touching now. I am wondering how badly they were suffering throughout all the other content since then. I hope they enjoyed some of it and I am more excited each day for this temporary "group" break they are taking now. I really think Jimin worries the most about solo activities. He said in the dinner "I'm not a solo artist". He has struggled in the past with confidence and I think he thinks he doesn't have enough to offer alone (oh he is so wrong). You are right, we all show different parts of ourselves to different people in our lives..of course we are more free and open with friends and more professional at work. I can't imagine what it is like trying to balance a public persona vs a private one. RM has had struggles in the past over whether he was a fake because he shows his "public persona" to the fans. He also struggled with idol vs artist...but he said he came to terms with the fact that all these things are just him. So much of their discography centres around identity. Thanks for reacting and for your insight.

Jimin is an extremely talented guy and probably doesn't give himself enough credit, but I can't help but think that perhaps some of them didn't really want to go solo, it's simply not for everyone, confidence or not, but they didn't really have much of a choice at that point

I will always support every member of BTS, even if they stop. Roscoe, you’re definitely right about the whole “It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved.” I wasn’t there from the beginning but really did find BTS when I needed them. It’s nice to see the guys living their lives lately, the way they want to. I will always be Thankful for BTS & ARMYs, and how they have inspired me 💜
I haven't re-watched the proof of inspiration after I watched the festa dinner.
I cried my eyes out during the dinner party. 1st I feared to watch it because I finished late at work and when I opened twitter there was already a chaos and my moots were saying they are going on hiatus.
But I still watched it and my heart aches for them.
I for one understands them. We can't put them in a box. These are 7 intelligent and talented guys and like everyone of us they need to have a life of their own. They have emotions too.
Yes they are friends and family, but they also need to interact with other people outside of BTS.
I am a mother and as I always tell my kids that they are free to do what they want as long as they don't do something illegal I will not hinder them from doing so. As long as they are going to be happy. I just tell them that I am not just their mom but also a friend and I really am happy because they tell me freely about everything.
So just like that I want these boys to be free. They have already given up their youth. So let them enjoy their life. Don't let them be like the children in Omelas and in snowpiercer. Who suffered for the good others.
I recently went back and watched Black Swan again after the dinner, and I wonder now, we’re they trying to tell us (Army) at that time. Kind of giving us a heads up this hiatus was coming. Then of course Covid happened and BTS being BTS knew Army needed them so they put it off until we were ok. Idk, maybe I’m over thinking cuz yeah, it’s just what I do. 🤷🏼♀️
No I think you're right, whoever wrote Black Swan (the song) was trying to tell us what they were feeling, facing, dealing with. For people immersed into the visual and audio arts, the art of dance, like these young men have been for about 10 years, for an artist to lose the love of their art (of making music and performing) it would feel like a death of their own self, their spirit. So they'd been struggling with exhaustion, losing their intense LOVE for their work, the inspiration that's needed to continue doing that month after month.....they needed time to refresh themselves, have xtended vacations, time alone to find themselves apart from the group but had been unable to tell that to ARMYS.
I have rewatched the festa and I really want to say thank you to BTS for sharing and being able to tell us how they feel and think . I am not going to try and interpret anything they said ,because to ME they are letting us know their thought and feelings . What I will do as an ARMIY is to RESPECT their privacy and continue to stand by their aside and to let’s these men live there lives as they want . I want them to continue to discover who they are AND find happiness in whatever journey life takes them 💜💜💜💜💜💜🙂🙂.
What you said about acting different with family, friends and with coworkers is natural and we all do it. Even within family members. I am a middle child and I act differently depending on which brother I interact with. Once I realised I do this (during my teens) it made me question whether my behaviour was right, and I felt like a liar and a hypocrite, because our age differences are -1 year (younger one) and +2,5 years (older one), which isn't big. Also, their personalities don't help at all with this situation.
On another note, I think you were right on pretty much everything you said and that "proof of inspiration" was foreshadowing to make it easier for army, but also how they felt at the time. They always drop hints about things weeks/months before they are announced.
A year on from the dinner these Proofs feel so much more positive. As individuals we have been able to see so much more of their talent, humour, work ethic and the individual colour that Jimin referred to. Five years ago our little bangtan brains would have exploded at the notion of Hobipalooza, Crazy pt 2, Wildflower, an August D world tour and V releasing swing music tracks. Look how brilliant and bright they are, look how much better Army know them as seven individual men. I'm so proud to be Army. ❤

Other than that, it's always invigorating to know there are a lot of ARMY out there who share the same thoughts and mindsets. To me it all comes down to our boys wanting to love and be loved in return as who they are both as filtered and as unfiltered selves, first and foremost. As simple as this sounds, we all know how complicated it is and gets depending on who we are as individuals. Then, they want to be real and genuine musicians and artists when it comes to their music productions without falling into the general system and demand of the music industry. We can all analyze, evaluate and make assumptions but I think at the end of the day, they just want to be true and real to themselves and to their fans to the best of their abilities from their heart and soul as music artists. Through our journey together, they have found themselves as individuals and as BTS, so now, moving forward, they have to experience, develop and grow as humans to be able to create something genuine. I truly appreciate that they were trying to be genuinely honest the best way they could under their circumstances to ARMY. They have certainly changed and enriched my life and continue to do so. I, for one, will always love, support and be with them forever. APO, BANGPO!💜
I'm super happy your are back. I'm an old guy that enjoys good music. I enjoy your perspective because I'm a lazy music listener. You do the hard work of really paying attention to the music. BTS has like no other musicians made me appreciate the artistry of music in all its various forms and reactors like you really bring that across. I thoroughly enjoy your reactions and wish they were 10 hours long and not just 3 1/2 hours long. Mainly I want to say thank you.

I agree that looking back on past content (up to 2 years almost) you see things with a different view because of the Festa Dinner. The fact they had to hold that in this whole time and weren’t able to share it is heartbreaking. Can’t imagine the relief they feel now that it’s been said.
When you look back at old videos the past year and early this year, they are preparing us. Perhaps we were just in denial. Hehe.
And as to the question if they worry if no one will be there when they are back, they were very honest about it the past years. And hopefully now like Suga said, they are no longer afraid of falling.
I watched these as they came out. And now watching them again after everything that was said at the dinner I feel the same way you do. They were literally telling us without directly saying it. Giving us so many hints. And like some other people have said.. I have gone back and re-watched certain content and especially the songs on MOTS7 it all seems so obvious now. How much they were needing this time away.
They said in a few different ways during the dinner that they hope ARMY will take their words for what they are and to trust them. I think this includes all the words they have said before and after the dinner. So, I for one, most definitely will. 💜💜💜💜💜
To your point of them wondering what will happen if they have no audience anymore; they've discussed that in previous years and I would recommend deep diving into Epilogue: Young Forever (2016) and then For Youth (one of the new songs and actually the LAST track on Proof) because these two songs are connected.
And even at their Los Angeles concerts last year (first concerts with a live, in-person audience after 2 years), they commented on wondering if they would still have fans.
For me, it’s a bit hard to believe and understand. And yet, they have talked publicly (on film) many times regarding how they think about how they will “end” and/or become less popular. I think they’re always trying to brace themselves for a letdown (although ARMY is nowhere close to ending their love for BTS). I think that feeling is strongest for RM and Suga, who really are all about the music and the message, whereas I feel the others really thrive off of the ARMY participation and love at concerts (not surprising for entertainers!!) I think all of them love the live audience, but I think it’s crucial for the other 5. ( Just my opinion!)
@@babsjand They all just really love performing and honestly I would've felt similarly I think if I didn't get to see fans for 2 years too. Numbers online aren't really tangible until you see it with your own eyes. I'm just glad that they have a sort of reassurance now that they have fans that won't leave them and that they have the freedom to choose to do this for as long as they want to. I think I remember Jimin saying even if they're just sitting and singing & talking with ARMY that that would make him happy. They've also mentioned going from "Bangtan Boys" to "Bangtan Papas" in one interview too! 😆 I can see them going for a long time like other older rock bands or groups. Popularity can be fickle because it's a lot based on perception (though I feel like they'll always have it), but they'll always have their fans.
Yes in hindsight after the dinner we realize what the Proofs had been hinting at.
Good points Roscoe, I hadn't put the FESTA and the Inspirations together so very thought provoking! Also watched a clip from one of the ON:E concerts where Joonie spoke and what he said there stands out in light of FESTA. Something like 'The BTS you know and the Army we know will find a way, or make a new path/way....' Hmmmm, now my mind is being blown. Could be BTS have been giving us hints for a long while and now I think we might need to go back and take another look at what they have said......
Roscoe I agree with your thoughts on this whole scenario. The 'identity' theme does feel prevalent in all of this as they mentioned it in the Festa dinner. I also have my own additional thoughts and interpretation (that I do not wish to share on a public forum)/ Perhaps I too read too deep into things, but I do believe there are things we can never truly know about BTS; we can all speculate and make assumptions etc. I just wish the best for them and hope they can fulfill their dreams and 'bucket lists' and do whatever makes them happy.
I didnt think too much into any of it I just accepted that they need time to grow individually and I want them to be happy and enjoy life to the fullest. I will support them all in whatever they do and will now be permanently broke instead of just half the time rofl. I worry a little about Jimin hes notoriously hard on himself and I hope he doesnt do that now but realises that we adore him and will support him, maybe with his OST being so well accepted and loved it will settle his nervousness. The only sad part to me is if not for Covid I would have had a chance to see them live before this off time.
Hindsight is always 20/20 right? In one of her early live streams Aneesa mentioned the song black swan and how it made her feel knowing that the members felt that way. Of course the album was released in early 2020 so the song must have been written in 2019 at the height of their success so I guess it’s been brewing for even longer than we thought. Of course we all know that 2017-2018 was when they were thinking of disbanding and thank God they said they are staying together now. We’ll just have to hope they get their mojo back and come at us with a new sound 🤞🏻 PS I’m so glad you’re back on the couch! Can’t wait to joining with you! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I think you have some very valid and well supported points. They knew what they were going to announce at the dinner, and I think they were trying to ease the way a bit so that it didn't come as such a shock. I truly believe they love ARMY, and it's human to not want to hurt those you love. They are still putting themselves first, and doing what they need for them, but I don't think it negates the concern they felt for ARMY. My take away from these 'Proofs' is not only that they were trying to soften the blow of their Chapter 2 announcement, but also to reassure that even though it's going to look different, they aren't leaving altogether, and that they don't love ARMY any less. If these videos were to prove their inspiration, ARMY is a large part of it. RM: "I think the members and our ARMY who "Stay"ed by my side no matter which of the "me"s I was are my Proof." Jin: "Everyone knows that ARMY and I are inseparable ... we're at a point where I am ARMY and ARMY are me - we've assimilated into one. You are my and BTS living Proof." Jimin: "I still have many different colors left to share. ... You are my Proof." Jungkook: "Me happily making music while watching ARMY, and your smiles as you watch me - these are my Proofs." To be honest though, I have felt like the announcement was pending for a long time. That many of the things they've said in the past two years seemed like they were easing us towards a good bye of sorts. Chapter 2 is saying good bye to what was, and hello to something new. I am happy that they finally took the steps to do this for themselves, and proud of them. At the same time, I admit there was a bit of a grieving process. And relief to finally having the other shoe drop so that I could stop waiting for it.

That fear does exist. If you watch almost all of the Korean idols who have to go to the military they all express the same thing. Will I be remembered, will they wait for me to come back and be there with the same enthusiasm? They are *hyper* aware of the fickle nature of the business they are in. Not only does this hit differently after Festa but so does Black Swan and the realization of Martha Graham's quote behind it.
I'm with you in all of this and l appriecate your comments. BTS don't do anything by halves. They knew the direction they were heading into Festa and their Comeback. It's their way to help ARMY understand what they've been going through and where they are headed. They have always been forward thinking in what they do By producing Proof they close one Chapter, as they've been saying, and move to a new Chapter. BTS truely care about ARMY and true ARMY will understand and support them as the move into this new Chapter 💜 It's going to be a great read!!!!
Sounds like you're still processing post-dinner and so that's why you're still seeing everything through that lens. I've had my time to process and move on a little more than you. I became an ARMY in early 2018 and the first time I heard of the concept of them talking about different identities/personas was Namjoon speaking about it in the Burn The Stage documentary series (This series was about their 2017 WINGS tour but came out in Spring 2018 on RUclips Premium). He mentioned how he felt like he didn't get to spend enough time as Kim Namjoon and was struggling with that (but now we can see that he's much better at balancing that, for example through his art trips). Ever since then they have discussed having different "me's" throughout the Love Yourself and of course the Map of the Soul series. They were meant to take this break into Chapter 2 after MOTS 7 and touring for a year (but covid got in the way). So I understand how you may be looking at their words through that lens after having just watched the dinner, but for me their words mainly emphasize what they've always been telling us through their words & music. Perhaps that just comes with following them for a bit longer...
I hope you can check out the 3 new songs, the Proof Live, the 77Q 77A interview video and read their Weverse Magazine interviews too. It will all give you a better idea of where they are & where they will/might go next.

They say hind sight is 20-20; I don’t believe they were leaving clues to get us ready. I feel it’s more that we are understanding the context of their responses and actions since Covid to now. During Covid, they kept saying how angry they all were- RM mentioned that he would just suddenly burst into fits of rage. We all assumed it was simply because the tour was postponed. It turns out, it wasn’t the tour, but their freedom that was pushed back. They are usually honest without telling the whole truths, so in hind sight, we could piece together what they meant and why.
Im glad I rewatched their proofs with you. Thank you again Roscoe. IMO I think they feel that they have been losing themselves when they began venturing into English Pop songs to get into the Western market. RM already mentioned it in the Festa dinner. It's not what they were initially set out to do.. but I'm thankful they ventured into that bec I wouldn't have discovered them. Now that I'm invested in them as people & as artists, I care about their personas bec. they've given Army a lot of themselves without thinking of their identity at this point. I'm also feeling they are afraid to disappoint Army who depended on them so much for a lot of different reasons, I saw a placard in the LA concert saying "Thank you Namjoon for saving me." And I know they saw that. So I'm taking everything that's happening in stride and letting them grow and hoping that when they make their comeback they'll be happier and be able to show more of their music and continue to inspire us.
Hey Roscoe. I’m sure that BTS had already made the decision to take this break before these proofs of inspiration were put together. So the words they chose reflect or are influenced by their decision. It’s nearly impossible to not see what they put out through the post-dinner party-lens. Even the three new tracks on Proof take on a whole new meaning when you listen to them. Imo the new tracks were included to offer some comfort, consolation and hope for Army (including Run BTS which is such a fun bop). Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the new songs.
The theme of identity has always been strong in BTS's music ("BTS is the genre"). Also this album is an anthology album, so it makes sense that the songs they choose show "proof" of themselves as individuals and as a group of artists.
I don't think you're looking too hard, I think it's more that they are sincere to the extent that they're allowed to be. They're honest in their lyrics, they're sincere when they speak with/to ARMY. It only feels like they were hinting (RM stating repeatedly that ARMY is their "proof" being one of a few exceptions) at Chapter 2 because they've been expressing their feelings not as "hints" but just straight up through their preferred medium, music and online content. 💜

1. About the fear that one day ARMY would leave them or forget about them, they've actually expressed this fear at least in two instances. Yoongi wondered if people would forget about him when he had his shoulder surgery and RM wondered if ARMY would still be waiting for them after the pandemic.
2. I did notice the running theme of identity in these proofs of inspiration, but I thought they'd already solved the issue within themselves. I had never guessed that the process is still ongoing and that they need to take a break as a group to go through this process.
3. It seems like putting out English singles to cater to the American audience has made them feel like they've lost a sense of who they are. You know, I'm a baby Army and I've always wondered why these three English singles are such a problem. For me, they're just three little songs, against 300+ songs. What's the big deal?
But I guess for them (and for older Armys), these songs represent two years of their lives, and that's a long time when you have to promote and perform songs that they don't feel represent who they really are.
For #1, I'll add that the song 134340 is all about that exact fear

I think you covered it. I don't think it's much deeper than what you've already discussed
To me watching you post Dinner, it looks like you are a bit in like a shock or denial? I mean I could be wrong. But if you find out something that hit you out of nowhere people try to find hidden messages or meaning you might have missed. Totally natural. But after 1-2 weeks (for BTS case at least) we Armys move on and focus on whats coming. I mean there are hundreds of theories beginning from exhaustion, mature, military service, Big Hit merging with Hybe being a mistake, Scooter Braun, a.s.o.
And sure you will maybe find some hidden help me messages through Map of the Soul, like Louder than Bombs, hits totally different now than before Dinner 22. Also through your journey you will see that RM has always struggled with his identity, Jimin with his confidence and lack of selflove, V with accepting being just unique, Hobi for not always being happy and Suga with his fears or Jin who found a way making himself happy through others but how can he do that alone? And for them all, their fear of loosing Army. They found love and happyness the same in us, as we found through them. But after the concerts are done, they are alone. They said it multiple times while Covid hit us and after, they feared Army would have left, no one would show up. But that wasnt the case. Still, they will always be artists. And for that they will always find their way back together on that stage, listening to the cheers, singing the songs they made through there blood sweat and tears and feeling something no one of us could ever imagine. (a bit like a drug - Jimin explains it pretty good when they almost split up 2018 and what hit him).
But as you said, there is so much content left and so much to come. I believe (from an Army who came late) they will tell us the whole truth about it (when they can)... later. Lets sit back and wait. Fighting!

I don't think you would go too deep "blackswaning" this time. Even at the first seeing, I found it strange in what mood the shorts were recorded. Instead of enthusiastic attitudes about choosing songs, they were calm and introverted.
In this industry you live forward in creation and backward in marketing. A lot of things are done long in advance (like Christmas in the summer) so it's no wonder that Jungkook almost broke up in December for the awards ceremony when they hadn't even announced a "proof" album yet.
BTS, they have lived with the feeling of a "break" and have been talking about their solo projects for 2 years.

I am literally looking through 20/20 hindsight lens …. I actually feel guilty for SoFi & Vegas 🥹😔💜 because I also am so very thankful and blessed feeling to have been a part of them! 😔💜
