Econ 101 says that if you have to keep your margins in an increasing labor cost environment, and labor is the single biggest cost to any enterprise, you either: a. Shut down operations, b. Streamline the labor force (layoffs), c. Increase cost of goods and services. None of these options are remotely palatable especially in the inflationary environment we are facing. Not sure why the loons in Sacramento thought up this insane idea, but now we have it and we wait to see just how much damage this will cause to this once great state.

Businesses want it to be a part time/entry levrl job but require the number of people seen in full time career jobs to function properly.
30% of the jobs in this country are minimum wage.
Yet the number of people who are aiming for an entry level/part time job (high schoolers, college students, recent graduates) only make up around 15-20% of the population.
Its simply unsustainable and may lead to the service industry collapsing in the future.
We're already seeing the effects of this. Many minimum wage jobs in major cities are dealing with labor shortages, since these jobs do not pay enough to live on.
Plus, with the largest section of the workforce (baby boomers) retiring, there is a LOT of higher paying positions opening up.
Even states with low minimum wages are seeing most minimum wage jobs in cities pay far higher than legally required just to get the minimum staff required to function.

It won’t get more tax revenue for the state. The food that was an affordable option for people will be priced so high that they won’t be able to afford it. The franchisee will have to go out of business and declare bankruptcy since they’ll lose all their investment money. The employees will all go on unemployment. So no tax revenue for the state. These franchises already have to cover the inflated prices of all their products and the extremely high fuel cost to get them delivered. There won’t be places to buy a quick meal for a reasonable price, nor will there be jobs for people just starting out, or without a solid skill set and education.

As a fast food worker, I am now at $20 an hour. But the irony here is that I am making way less now. Why? Because any business that has to pay $20 an hour has slashed employee hours to part time. At $16.50 an hour, I was getting 6 to 8 hour shifts. At $20 an hour, I am only getting 4 hour shifts and somedays, only 3 hours. So I have taken a significant pay cut. And with California auto insurance having just gone up 33%, and rents that just keep going up and up, I don't know how I am going to survive. Thank You Governor Gruesome.
