STOP blaming the workers at the bottom. The average fast food executives take home over $5 million each x 2700 executives at each fast food multi-billion dollar corporation.
I worked the grill at McDonalds in 1980 for $3.25 an hour
I made 200 Quarter Pounders, 200 Big Macs, 50 Cheese Burgers, & 40 Burgers an hour.
Quarter Pounders & Big Macs sold for $2.50 ea.
I made Mc Donalds over $1000 per hour and only made $3.50 hr with NO benefits
Imagine how much each employee makes for these chains now.

Minimum wage had its highest purchasing power in Feb of 1968, and never again had such purchasing power. Minimum wage has lagged BEHIND inflation, it has not been the cause of it.
Government spending, including taxpayer money to themselves (via money to companies they're invested in) and their friends every time the military makes a move or there is some sort of public works, that outstrips actual production in the country, largely causes inflation.
The world caught up post wwii (when Canada and the U.S. basically had some of the only production capability in the world, and every blue collar job could pay okay to amazingly). The world now does not want to pay a lot for electronics, machine parts, etc., just so American and Canadian workers can get great pay in factories and all the service workers those factory workers go to can also get paid well.

    • @melsop54
      @melsop54 10 дней назад +3

@@Wary_Of_Extremes I'd argue, as minimum wage is intended to provide minimum standards of living, the issue is not minimum wage. If inflation has well outpaced minimum wage, you place the blame squarely on inflation. If water is filling the boat, the solution is not to get a bigger bucket. The solution is to slow down and eventually stop the water from coming in. Min wage was never intended to support a family with, pay a mortgage or rent with, etc. The fight should be on slowing down government spending that leads to inflation. As if our lives depended on it, because they do. But no one seems to want to fight that fight.

@@TheExauticTruth No. No I don't. That's how people get killed, and I don't want otherwise innocent people killed. It's basic business. Basic math. If I have two employees and I hypothetically pay them $5 a day each (just using small numbers for example of course), and I charge $1 for my product that my employees help sell, and then I HAVE to start paying my employees $10/day, my expenditures just increased $10/day overnight. My choices are simple. Increase the price on my product to make up that gap...or eliminate one employees position, place that burden on the other, and balance out my expenditures. What I am not in business for (read what nobody is in business for) is to lose money. You may not like that, you may hate that. It's still reality. No matter how hard you fight it.

As a fast food worker, I am now at $20 an hour. But the irony here is that I am making way less now. Why? Because any business that has to pay $20 an hour has slashed employee hours to part time. At $16.50 an hour, I was getting 6 to 8 hour shifts. At $20 an hour, I am only getting 4 hour shifts and somedays, only 3 hours. So I have taken a significant pay cut. And with California auto insurance having just gone up 33%, and rents that just keep going up and up, I don't know how I am going to survive. Thank You Governor Gruesome.

Now we are here having to work 2-3x as hard as before. California sold out, and the economic state of things is causing the downfall of families, drug addiction, homelessness, rampant prostitution, crime waves and overall poverty. Parents get to work long hours and kids are being indoctrinated by the government. I don’t even consider myself a conspiracy theorist but this is the reality as I see it. Instead of this blind sighted decision they should have invested in lowering the entry point to some businesses or further incentivize fields in the trades or found ways to strength the workforce in a way that more people actually become assets to their companies instead of increasing the wage for minimum work.

most rural fast food restaurants are lucky to get 3 customers an hour or 36 customers a day assuming they are open for 12 hours that day. this means that they either need to raise prices so the customers they do get pay them enough to actually keep the business afloat, reduce the amount of employees so they can keep the business afloat without raising prices, or let the business fail. considering prices are already so high that most people cant afford them as is and considering three employees is the bear minimum for any fast food restaurant the only option left is to just shut the businesses in the rural areas down.

So who's fault is the labor budget? The worker or the corporation, think about who you real enemies are. People shouldn't have to pay for increasing wages.
Imagine firing tons of people to afford your Labor Budget and balance it. THEN REGARDLESS, RAISE PRICES ANYWAYS.

Get ur governers to lower costs instead so it matches with the rest of the country. ur literally asking to pour gasoline on the fire. ur treating the symptoms not the cause. its like an addict treating his withdrawal symptoms, instead of quitting drugs they jsut take more. Labor competes with 3 things. 1. Capital. 2. Automation. 3. Customers willingness to pay (the market). What happends is a sort of mixed respons. The result will be less customers, more automation, and more emphasis on capital intensive investments, as opposed to invest in people and workers. How this is supposed to benefit workers over time, only Gavin knows.

@@TruthFictionwhat you fail to understand is that raising the minimum wage only increases cost of living so people that vote it in are essentially voting to be in a perpetual struggle circle instead of actually working on problems

@@TruthFictionalso yes you dont deserve to make a living off an entry level job that requires no skill you flipping burgers at McDonald’s isnt akin to those of a chef in a restaurant if people werent so lazy most of those people wouldnt have a job anyway america relies to heavily on fast food

      @@TruthFiction It’s not that people don’t deserve $20/hr, it’s that the job isn’t a $20/hr job.
You do realize that making everything more expensive is going to make it harder for people to afford basic things, right?
I agree that stuff is expensive. Raising the price on that stuff doesn’t make it easier (which happens when the minimum goes up). $30/hr isn’t a living wage either. Imo, businesses are greedy (charge a lot and pay workers little).

I was offered to $15 an hour to manage two fast-food restaurants and the owners was clearing $375,000 in after tax profits from each restaurant. The rest of the staff was making the federal minimum wage of $7 an hour. So states have to raise standards when restaurants and companies don't on their own.

Because minimum wage jobs are for minimum skills jobs. They're entry level position jobs. Jobs that you gain experience through, NOT DEPEND ON for life!!! We knew that until 2020

Price increases come from the same people that do the layoffs. $20 an hour in Cali isn't livable.
If we want to help workers, CEOs can't make more than 10x the lowest wage worker. Payroll taxes for people making $25 and under are exempt and CEOs and others who make over 1m a year should be charged 95% tax.
Let's be real, the law should have also come with a fine for layoffs.
