      In the near future I see the biggest use-case for these kinds of devices filling that gap of needing a cheap phone and cheap laptop/chromebook for the kids or the older folks. When my father-in-law's windows laptop finally dies, I'll only have to be tech support for ONE device. Face it: for a good percentage of the market, most people could do what they do with a web-browser, and maybe some light office apps if they didn't want to use a browser-based solution. Add the ability to do light video and audio editing (butt-cuts, titles, moving clips) and that would seal the deal for a lot of grandmas out there.

      Agreed. It's great on my G100 in its current iteration and very snappy. Along with web apps, it's quite impressive how close just a phone has come to replacing a desktop.
      Still, it could be improved with the addition of window snapping / tiling, as having to manually drag and size windows is tedious. It would also be good to be able to put two chrome windows side by side.
      Also, this isn't a Moto thing, but it would also be fantastic if Google got around to putting in keyboard shortcuts into its Android OS apps so they worked the same as web apps when used on a browser.

    Hi Juan. Thanks for all your videos. Got a question if you have a moment. I watched your unboxing video, the "your reactions" video, and this one. Since your setup was off-camera in the unboxing video, I'm confused about one thing: Does this phone work *_wired_* to your NexDock? How does it hook up? Single USB-C for video, keyboard & trackpad? I thought Motorola publicly said ReadyFor was wireless only, which to me would defeat the purpose, because it requires you have a fully functional OS on your laptop in order to use your phone as your laptop. Plus wireless lag and/or requiring Wi-Fi doesn't sound awesome if you're trying to write an email in a hotel or something.

    • @KillerRaptorr
      @KillerRaptorr 2 года назад +2

      Edge 2021 is wireless only. It's USB C port is only 2.0 which is data only no video output. So you could still broadcast it to a nexdock (if it's got wireless compatibility.) and use the wired connection for mouse/keyboard functions.
      But G100/200 and Edge+ 2020/2022 versions are all wired compatibile (USB-C 3.1 +displaylink.) Which allows for wired video output and data. Though G100/200 and Edge+ 2020 are on Android 11. So no wireless right now. But G100/200 will get android 12 and get wireless Ready For mode, Along with the Ready For 3.0 improvements. (No update for Edge+ 2020 sadly.)

      Per Moto's site, ready for is on the Edge 20 line of phones (PC only on the edge 20 lite), Edge+ and G100. If they can bring the feature to their equivalent of Samsung's A series it would be big and get in the hands of more folks. Same if DEX were to be on the Samsung A series line at least the high end versions of that line.

In other words: If I use a Motorola phone with 'Ready For', which comes with DisplayPort (HDMI), can I use that phone as a substitute for a PC? That's what I'm after. My aging setup:-
    Nvidia Shield K1 tablet (Android Os 7) with a well past its best battery, hence it being plugged in 24/7, is hooked up to my 58" TV and Amp/speakers..
    - K1's Mini HDMI port provides sound and picture to TV, where the TV's audio out feeds my 1989 Technics SU-600 'New Class A' integrated amp, which then feeds to my 4 mid range bookshelf speakers (spaced around the room - LOVELY sound 👌😉)
    - K1's Micro USB port to a powered USB hub, which provides power to tablet and external drive, plus one port has a dongle for my wireless Keyboard and mouse...
    SO this COULD be it! Finally!!
    I DID NOT wanna go DEX because of Samsung's bloatware, I was considering one of those high performance Android (Full)/Android TV boxes but most are Chinese and OS updates are... Well... 'Meh' at best..

Samsung phones struggle with killing apps in the background. How about Motorola? I really need a more polished multitasking experience. Dex caches apps minimized to the taskbar and removes them out of active memory. This way websites often reload when maximizing to fullscreen. Even switching from one maximized browser window to another often reloads websites. I know you can use "The long live app" function with multistar but it only works with one app at a time. @@magicbusgb LG Mobile sells department is yes. But their Software department is still in drive till 2024 likely.
      Most of their recent phones will get up to 12/13. Velvet included up to 13. So 12 i'm hoping they do some improvements to Screen+. It's decent for most part. But still not as flush as Dex or RF.
