As separate modes for video and gaming, has a first party dock with active cooling whereas Samsung hasn't released one in like 8 years. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S20 Mini PC from Ali Express. It has a metal housing, heat sink and fan. I paired it with the Uperfect 15.6" touch screen monitor that acts as a single hub then I put the new Raspberry Pi Keyboard Hub on it and also got a phone upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. I am extremely happy with the whole thing and would recommend it for someone wanting an Android OS.
I got this new last year from boost for $150. I bought a unlock code and use it as my daily driver with mint. I have a external monitor i use with it at work.
The Atrix was at least half a decade before its time. I wanted that thing so bad. It wasn't exactly the same as today's desktop modes as I believe it was an entirely separate instance of linux but conceptually it was the same.

Phones are insanely powerful nowadays. ESPECIALLY iphones that just use the same chips as their laptops. The fact that we haven't transitioned to people just plugging their phones into monitors to do light work on the go is crazy to me

Thats a great deal. Its an 8 plus gen 1 which is significantly better than the 8 gen 1. I have the moto edge plus 2023. My favorite device ever. It's my phone, desktop, gaming console, TV streamer, etc. Smart connect is my favorite app/feature in any device. Second place is the pixel recording app that I do kind of miss.

I've been thinking about getting a travel laptop, something that I can use to remote into my home PC. I think a phone like this might be a good both cheap, and compact way to go about this.
It's my setup but with a S24 Zenscreen + foldable bluetooth keyboard with trackpad integrated You can go with the Moto G100 that is less powerful (S870) but cheaper
FYI. This phone does not have a micro SD card slot. I would suggest the Galaxy S20 with a Snapdragon 865. Less powerful yes, but being able to expand storage on the fly is super convenient for this type of stuff.
Very impressive for the specs and cost on offer. I'm surprised that F-Zero GX would not run at 720p considering the power that the Gen1 puts out. Would have been useful to see PS2/Wii performance. The desktop mode seems to just work as you want, right from the off with no need to touch developer options or mess around to get more full screen mode. A potential choice for those that might have looked at an SBC, where the GPIO stuff is not important but where power and all round performance would likely trump most of the boards out there. It is a shame that the Gen1 never supported AV1 out of the box because that would have covered the bases for pretty much most media player/streaming capabilities today and tomorrow. It's abut time that Samsung had some real competition in this area and long overdue for all phones to come with video over USB-C as an industry standard.
The thinkphone has been really tempting now that it's priced under $400 brand new on Amazon. I love the look. I guess the cameras are something of a weak spot compared to a pixel or something but the desktop mode, the thermals, the design, the ruggedness... It's very tempting
@@michael_c2 The camera isn't bad at all. I think for $400 brand new it's a real bargain. I bought it used for $350 when they were still $600+ new. It's been updated to Android 14 and the monthly updates are still coming in.
Ready for is ok for gaming if you have a Moto Phone cable compatible , if not is not valid via Wifi, it has lag and it's impossible to play that way depending on the game.
Motorola's issue is ther update policy On their flagship it's only 1 or 2 new android versions while for Samsung now it's I guess 4 new android versions

I don't think that supports the desktop mode. Can't hurt to try video output but I think it's mostly limited to the more expensive phones. Although they did have a $300 phone called the edge neo or something which supports it.

This 120 dollar phone is compatible with Nintendo switch, windows 10 games with winlator, all the classic systems, and if you have great Internet you can pay for shadow pc to access to your windows 10 apps like Photoshop via an android app (my dad uses this service on his Linux laptop XP) Anyway this is a good offer against something like the switch lite :v
My Phone is technically stronger than my PC, but there's only so much one could do to utilise that power and Ready For is just the perfect solution for that My PC struggles to run games on the Dolphin Emulator but my Phone is able to run them perfectly on any settings. But the only problem with the phone. Now I can run Emulated games on phones and play them on PC 😂😂 And BTW, my Moto g54 didn't come with Ready For but it works completely fine by just installing the Ready For apk 😂😂

I think the reason for me going for a Samsung Phone is because of it having Fortnite on it. I would definitely want to get a BETTER smartphone with this desktop mode in the future since my Galaxy S9 is "tired" and having that 64GB of storage ain't enough now.
would it not be more effective to attach the cooler to the glass screen of the phone rather than the back, since a lot of the heat is sinked to the oled screen already? that's assuming that youre not using the phone for anything else other than a desktop.
Has anyone found a way to do this without horrendous lag? Whenever I use a Series X controller with my Galaxy S24 Ultra the inputs are so far behind any game other than an RPG is unplayable.
The downside for this feature is, it cannot turn off the screen while in ready for mode and no bypass charging. If it can turn off screen and bypass charging sure the perfect device for desktop mode.

It can be use and all phones are enough for most people daily task in life including using it for emulation long after the phone have become obsolete. A USB-C hub with HDMI out worked with my Moto Thinkphone. I can use my 2.4Ghz Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard for full control.

a used note9 is another good option along with a dex dock (which has a built in fan)

Handphone appraisal and reviews are shady all the time.
It can be use and all phones are enough for most people daily task in life including using it for emulation long after the phone have become obsolete.
Its just that when it come to buying a phone everyone willl use everything to pull down their rivals sales by using design, specs and os updates as reasons to made the phones they dont like to look like useless phones.
Anyway back to the main topic. Can phones that no longer recieved os updates as all phones eventually do be able to run emulation normally? If yes then that's good then.
