  • Nobody tell Motorola things are supposed to be more expensive... Build your credit this new year. Go to www.chime.com/jerryrig. Thanks to Chime for sponsoring the show! We test a lot of thousand dollar smartphone flagships. But today we move to the opposite end of the spectrum and test a budget $149 dollar smartphone. This little android phone has a single camera on the back and appears to be entirely made form plastic. BUT has a 1tb SD Card slot - which is rather incredible. A full size 6.5 inch 90hz refresh rate screen all while only costing 149 bucks?! The 2024 Motorola G Play: amzn.to/49vZscC

Honestly, the only iPhones that are actually worth the cost are the 15 pro and pro max. If you want anything cheaper, you should just buy an Android at this point. The fact that Apple is selling the 15 plus for the price that they are is almost laughable.

@@kingcactus4656tbh i dont know why anyone considers 60hz a dealbreaker and why having high refresh rates on a phone is even required, like what are you doing on it lol, plus people usually dont buy iPhones cuz of the specs, for example, i use an iPhone because all of my family members do and the integration is so nice, being able to facetime, airdrop, all those other things are things we use everyday and they legitimately just make life easier, and i know there are alternatives to those things on android but they just arent the same, and i can always rest assured that since iPhones are so locked down, there is literally nothing that they can do that will cause them massive issues or anything that i will end up having to solve.

Because its not fashionable as such, so doesn't reach the masses, but as a Samsung user, my S23 ultra will be my last from Samsung, the reason being, each phone as reached the point where even this £140 Motorola will give the average user a phone that delivers the basics. So next year, when my contract is up with my provider, I will consider looking at other brands such as Motorola, One Plus, or Honor. For £450 maybe £500 max, which is roughly what I can sell my s23 ultra for at that point on the used market and get a perfectly useable phone from one of these companies.

Also Samsung offers loads of exchange offers for its phones AND the prices ALWAYS drop after a few months (unlike a certain brand that begins with an A and ends with an E). What's more Samsung has a wide range of budget phones to choose from.......

It was frustratingly slow and unresponsive, sometimes taking more than 10s just to turn the screen on. I'm still optimistic about how these low-end phones are getting better every year

Just a heads up on Lenovo (Motorola) phones. I have one and decided to see what apps were sending data and where to. I installed an app to monitor the traffic and tons of system apps were sending data back to China. Location traffic was one of the most often sent to China. It doesn't care if location is off or not. And no location permissions were given to those apps. It's most likely grabbing location data at the system level which doesn't require permissions.
Tons of other apps as well. I haven't tested all android phones to compare, but just wanted to give out a heads up. My previous Motorola (made when Motorola was owned by Google) did not have this traffic.
