I watched this video before my c section hoping mine would be good too, it's been awesome, had my planned c section yesterday morning, it was super smooth and fast. The anesthesia placement was painless. 48 hours after I'm already walking eating and going to the bathroom. I'm only on Tylenol and almost no pain or vaginal bleeding. I was expecting it to be so rough but it's been ok! Stay positive! ( I prayed A Lot too) 💞💞🙏🙏🙏
How long did you have to stay in the hospital I have a scheduled c section for my second baby this is my first time having to get a c section I’m 39 weeks and I’m nervous
@@GG-vi4un Thank you! I'm sure your c section will be awesome too! Baby eats and sleeps all day we got so lucky!! I'm almost 3 weeks post partum and I'm fully back to normal 🙏 💗
@@cedesLifestyle I stayed for 3 days, it wasn't bad. The nurses helped me a lot. Just stay on top of your pain meds like Tylenol and Advil and you should be fine 💞
I had a planned C-Section scheduled for 07/23/23, and I was terrified of the surgery and the recovery. I had read so many negative comments about C-section recovery that I was mortified ... The surgery went super smooth, I was in pain (obviously) after a major abdominal surgery. The painkillers help a lot and in 48 hours I felt like I was fully recovered! I needed help getting in and out of bed the first 48 hours, after that i was able to do so on my own. Now I am 2 weeks postpartum and I can't even beleive i had this surgery only 2 weeks ago, and that I recovered super fast. In my opinion C-section wasn't scary at all. To all mamas out there having a planned or maybe emergency C-Section: YOU GO THIS! Don't be sacred, and don't waste your time reading negative comments like I did during my preganncy.
@pattyl.3290 Please don't be terrified :) The surgery itself is so fast and smooth that you won't feel a thing! I'm sure it'll go so well! The first 2 days will be the most painful days, but with medication, you won't feel much pain. Don't feel shy or guilty to ask for medication when your pain starts. You won't feel drowsy, and you will still be able to make a beautiful bond with your baby and to nurse and care for your baby. I'm wishing you best of luck and a speedy recovery. You got this, Mama ❤
Firstly congratulations on bubs! As well as having a smooth delivery and recovery. Secondly, It's not "wasting time" reading negative experiences/comments. It gives people a REAL insight of both positive and negative experiences. I had 2 very traumatic csections and THE TRAUMA and "negative" experiences of others csections are what are NEVER talked about. I had my 3rd cs a month ago and this time round would have to be the LONGEST healing I've had out of the 3. However, it wasn't a traumatic cs like the previous 2 I had. I've had both a positive and negative experience with csetions and it is so common that many women have experienced horrible csections and feel restricted to "voice" it because the "positive" outweigh the negative. I spoke LOUDLY about my negative experience AND my positive. I love seeing the "negative" comments because its proof that there are other who had the same experience as me and you don't feel alone knowing that. It would be a perfect world if everything was smooth sailing. One thing our healthcare and midwife emphasised on was the fact we see so many positive birth experiences BECAUSE no one wants to post about an awful experience, who would? It needs to be made more aware that there ARE negative experiences and it's okay to talk about it/post about it etc. Keep an open mind.
I'm so sorry about having to experience such a traumatic surgery/recovery. The negative comments I'm referring to aren't about negative experiences. They are literally negative comments that don't worth spending time on. Of course, so many women don't go through a smooth c-section. The experience is painful and mentally challenging for lots of women. I consider myself very lucky. Again, I'm repeating that I am not referring to "experinece". Or to put you or anyone else down who had to go through a traumatic experience. Lots of "negative comments " I read about were unnecessary comments like " you will never be able to bond with your baby the same way as natural delivery", or women openly shaming other women on social media for choosing to have a c-section intentionally or due to medical emergency. These comments are unnecessary and mentally challenging, so it's better to stay away from those comments. But I do agree with you that it's absolutely necessary to read about others' experiences, whether positive or negative, to have an insight. I was so terrified reading through lots of negative/traumatizing experiences that I was desperately looking for a single positive experience. I was terrified until the last second. Overall, during pregnancy, I went through hell mentally, to the point that I was unrecognizable sometimes. In this particular case, it would be great to read more about positove expeirneces. So, I wanted to share my positive story here, so whoever is reading my comment will also have an insight about the possibility of having a positive c-section recovery experience. I think you took my comment out of context since you focused so much on what I said about not wasting time on reading through negative "commnets."" I wanted to clarify what I meant. Kudos to you for all three c-sections you had and for standing tall 👏 , and congratulations on your newborn ❤ I always have an open mind. Don't judge a person based on a sentence :)
My wife is recovering now. She describes it as a positive c-section experience. It was more traumatizing for me, I think, cause it’s hard to see her so vulnerable. It’s day 6 and she is a trooper and is doing well. She is a first-time mom and doing amazing, as I knew she would. The thing she hates the most is the swelling, particularly her feet.
@@chiellaharriet9447 She didn’t do anything particular for them. The swelling lasted longer than she hoped but now she’s good. Sorry I don’t have better info. Mama and baby are doing really well though - he’s a big boy already 👶🏻
Very informative video! I had an unexpected c section with my daughter a few days ago. Another unexpected thing that happened to me after the surgery was nerve pain near the incision. I was getting all kinds of pain meds including IV and NOTHING would touch it! After confirming nothing majorly wrong with the ultrasound machine, the Dr who performed my c section brought up the possibility of nerve pain after listening to my symptoms - all I really needed was some lidocaine patches on the area that felt like it was "burning" and it was sooo much better! Just in case anyone else is dealing with this!
Omg I had this. I didn’t understand why everything else was so numb but I had this one spot that was burning and crazy painful for like an hour or so later
You holding the baby while explaining this was comforting to me. I am 28 weeks pregnant and will need a scheduled C-section. As stressful as it is knowing the process of what’s going to happen, you holding your baby reminded me that I get a baby out of this ❤️
You will be ok! Just say to yourself in the process every few minutes, I will ve ok. Many women has passed through this and are doing fine, I will be ok. This helps mentally and emotionally. I can ASSURE you, you will be ok! Medicine has evolved so much that its almost easy to have a C section and recover. You will be ok , I know you will
I'm also grateful for this video. I'm 40 weeks pregnant and scheduled for a c-section. I'm not going to lie I'm nervous and scared but seeing the baby in this video has reminded me that I'm getting a baby out of this
I have a planned c-section booked for 2 weeks from now for a breech baby and seeing you snuggle your baby throughout this video was so calming to me. My worry comes from not being able to bond and connect with my baby to the same capacity as I would with a vaginal delivery so this was really nice to see and hear. Thank you for walking us through your experience!
As OB nurse who was privileged to have a high risk pregnancy ,cerclage, mgso4 infusion, CS,premature baby....I was educated about the other side of health care. It's so important maternal care improve drastically in this country
One thing that often does not get talked about with abdominal surgery is the painful gas that follows. The gas after my c section had me in tears. It was nearly unbearable. The incision didn’t hurt, but trapped gas was unbelievably painful.
@tinamapp2665 i didn't have any painful gas whatsoever, i was bracing myself for it but it never came..then again I've never had issues with going to the bathroom so maybe that has something to do with it 🤣
Yes!!! I didn’t not even know this would be an issue and it was so painful. I took a laxative and stool softener to help get things moving and that helped a bit. Other than that I just had to bare the pain.
@@colleeneta2284 ask your doctor if you can take gas x, I'm having a scheduled c section in a week and a half and I've felt that pain before when I had to have laparoscopic surgery, so I'm not looking forward to that. Also moving around also helps!
@@garrysandhu4938 I started wearing it immediately. If I didn’t I felt like my insides were loose. I didn’t make it extrema tight just wrapped it enough to feel secure.

Thank you for sharing this video, I am 33+6 and have known since I found out I was pregnant I would need a c-section this time after the traumatic birth of my first child. I have been getting increasingly nervous about my up-coming c-section and having a Dr's perspective on both the medical side and the human side is hugely reassuring.
This helped my heart. I’m on day 4 of recovery from a planned C-section (also because of breech baby) and just so good to know other mamas are experiencing the same things I am. Thanks for this vlog! The notes about pain meds and the abdominal binder were particularly helpful. And thanks for showing your scar. That’s been the scariest part for me is dealing with my incision or knowing how to manage that discomfort. My first was also a vaginal so this one is SO different on every level! Looking forward to feeling “normal” again!
@@Brodragon2225 Both were painful in their own way. The recovery was more painful with the c-section, but the vaginal took longer to recover completely from (I also had some complications though with tearing and an infection 4 days PP) so it's hard to compare
This video was so informative! Thank you! I may have a c-section due to placentia previa and am so scared but this video gave me some relief and info on what to expect. Thank you again & congratulations on your little one ❤
SUPER helpful video and very reassuring - there’s nothing quite like hearing the birth experience of, and advice from an OBGYN! Need more videos by medical professionals speaking from experience! Thank you so much ❤
This video explanation of a C section and recovery was my exact experience. I had my first baby and my “plan” was to deliver vaginally. I was so sure I was going to deliver normally I never researched a C section and never prepared for it . I will say if this is your first child please do yourself (and your partner) a favor and research this . Going into an emergency c section after laboring for 2 days was the most emotionally and physically exhausting thing to have to go through . Get lots of help (family , friends , partner ) to help take care of the baby while you are unable to take care of the baby fully . And while your trying to recover your child needs your breast milk and figuring out breastfeeding while recovering is also hard . I learned so much from this experience . The only thing she forgot to mention is the swelling your body is going to have after the c section . My feet , legs and face swole up for an entire week after the surgery. C sections are a blessing as they allow us to have babies safely , I just hope mommas are prepared for what will happen ❤
FTM here and I also have a scheduled C section next week. Everyone has been telling me horrible stories and that I'll be recovering for 3-4 months and I won't be able to pick up my baby 😢. It's nice to hear an OB explain everything! This really eases my fears and I can't wait to hold my baby boy soon! 🥰
Thank you for this video! I had an emergency C-section after a 36 hour induction and I was SHOCKED by how painful it was! I was so unprepared! No one told me I’d need 24 hour care for myself AND the baby.
My daughter just went through the same experience and just had a baby an hour ago. She was hoping so much for natural birth (first baby btw) but baby was 2 weeks overdue and had a racy heartbeat so mama was induced in a natural way at first (balloon?) then another way. After day and a half she finally got epidural and was so sad that it was so different from her hopes. C- section was completely unexpected and I’m trying to find ways to support her. I had 2 vaginal births (a bit complicated too) and a hysterectomy so I kind of understand the hardship.
I had my 2nd baby girl 2 weeks ago... had my 2nd cesar. I hate them but it's something that had to be done.... recovery after my 1st ceasr was very quick. By 2 weeks I was almost back to normal. But for my 2nd recovery period, I'm in alot of pain and discomfort. I even had a reaction to the plaster that they used to cover my suture. So at the moment, I'm still recovering very slowly... but it is all worth it after seeing my baby girl 😊. And yes, every women recover differently. And yes, it's very difficult since we have to take care of baby and ourselves...
I recently given birth a week ago and our experience are similar. My original plan was to get the epidural and do a vaginal birth. But my baby heart rate dropped 3 times and I had to go into an emergency c section 😢. I was disappointed by this because I’m all for the natural birth. But I think it was for the best. My baby was 39 weeks and weight 5 pounds. Thank god he’s healthy and for a safe delivery. I’m currently on oxi, Tylenol and ibuprofen for recovery. This video really made me feel like I’m not going thru this alone. This is my first baby btw.
This was very helpful. I jist had my son 5days ago and I've been having a rough recovery. The Dr called in oxycodone. I just hate taking it and while breastfeeding. But the pain is so deep and burning. Transition from laying to sitting and sitting to standing is the hardest. I'm grateful my husband can fully nurse me because Im messed up. Looking forward to fully healing
Congratulations on your baby girl! I hope you continue to feel better quickly. I had a c section with my first baby in 2021. My doctor used glue and a single large silver bandage. I was unsure when to remove it. Also, thank you for suggesting special post op underwear and abdominal binder. No one told me about those. I am pregnant with my second child now, and trying to remain open to possibility of second c section if medically necessary again. Love your videos!
Thank you so much! My sister planned an induction for a vaginal birth but it didn’t go as planned so she ended up having a C-section 16 hours after labor started. I really want to be prepared when she comes home for the healing process and even now.
I had an unplanned + urgent but not quite emergency c-section for my breech gal at 35 weeks when I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. 100% believe that the “kind of scheduled” situation aided in a faster recovery vs laboring and then having a cesarean. I felt uncomfortable at various points but never what I would describe as in pain - I think I was very lucky. My daughter ended up in the NICU, so I was getting in great walks every day and I am sure that helped too. By the time she was discharged at 11 days old, I felt as close to normal as possible! Thank you for sharing your experience, especially as an OBGYN!
Me and you have the same story ❤ only difference is my stomach still feels weird like when I lay on my side it feels like my organs are shifting to the side I’m laying on just pressure and numbness in my stomach area
This is such an helpful video. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will use this in my child birth class. You shared some really important information. My daughter will be having a scheduled C/S because of history of myomecmtomy, so I think she would benefit from ALL the things you shared. again thank you.
Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm almost 39 weeks pregnant with my first now, and he is breech. At 37 weeks, my ECV also did not work, so now I am scheduled for a cesarean on Wednesday. They'll check again on the morning of my cesarean to see if he has turned, but I can still feel his head up above my belly button right now. Our doctor walked us through what our day would look like for the cesarean but I didn't really ask her about the recovery so this was helpful 🙂
@@ruthosayande8327 The surgery went well, thanks for asking! We had a healthy 6lbs 8oz baby boy and he actually got back to his birth weight a week later. So he and I are both doing well 🙂. There was more pressure than I was expecting during the surgery; it kind of felt like a more intense ECV to me
I’m so glad u shared your personal experience. I’m 3 months pregnant and I asked my doctor about having a c section because my mom wasn’t able to have me vaginally. I just preparing my self with knowledge just in case I can’t deliver that way. Hang in there!
I had a c-section 11 months ago and for me the pain was almost unbearable. I actually screamed in pain the first time I felt it because the pain came so suddenly and I honestly thought I was going to die. The area where I had the incision still felt uncomfortable for months after birth. The first time I did not feel anything anymore was after 6 ½ months. I want to have another baby and I already know it would have to be another c-section for medical reasons but I am actually really scared now because I really cried everytime I had to move. It was so extremely painful.
Love you doctor!! I’m 6 months pregnant and I will be 7 months next week. and I’m watching all your videos. Preparing myself for anything. Your videos are very informative🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you so much for this video. I just found out that I have placenta previa and will likely need a C-section. I had a vaginal delivery with my daughter that was medically traumatic and am terrified of the c-section. This video really helped calm some of those nerves.
Currently watching C-section videos after having one last week unexpectedly. Baby number 4 and all others were uncomplicated vaginal births. Wish I had done just a little C-section research in prior pregnancies just in case, since you never know what will happen. That’s going to be my advice to pregnant friends from now on. Research and mentally prepare for more than just the desired scenario. Thanks for this video.
Thank you for such an informative, honest and ...real postpartum video! I am pregnant with my second now, my first was a quite straight forward vaginal birth (grateful!) and so I don't know much about C-sections and your experience and knowledge are gold! Just trying to be prepared in case it needs to be done second time round! Congratulations to you and your family!
It's bn a wk today since I had my c section and I'm doing grt I started going to the bathroom on my own 7 hrs after my operation I'm great full coz baby and I are doing great
I have a planned C-section for 3 days from now and I am so anxious, my first two babies were natural births so this will be an entirely new experience for me 😅. Thanks for the encouraging information from your video ❤
38 weeks now with my first after a miscarriage at 17 weeks. I tried the ECV and it was too painful and uncomfortable 😣.. looks like we’ll have to go for a c section if she doesn’t drop, most importantly she comes safe to the world. Thank you for sharing your experience doctor!
Phew. This took me back to the wild ride that a spinal was for me. The numbness, the nausea...all the meds they were giving me to balance out what I was feeling. Wild. I'm also realizing that I may have tolerated more pain that I should have tolerated. It's hard to rate your pain when you have your first c-section. That catheter came out and I dreaded needing to go to the bathroom.
Yeah I think I’m gunna attempt the VBAC. I was lucky with my first c section I didn’t have much pain. Recovery took longer but I don’t want to risk the trauma of having that pain. I’m scared I won’t be able to be okay with managing it mentally.
Thank you! I’m getting ready to have a second c-section in a couple of months. My first was a horrific experience and I’m trying to be prepared because I’m choosing this route this time. (Different hospital and drs so I know it will be different). It was very helpful to see and hear from a dr that has gone through it.
Bless you for having a near typical c section experience. Yes, it's painful, but it's major surgery, so that's expected. I asked for a binder, and that really helped. My 1st was an emergency after 28 hours of labor and not pleasant at all. I think it took me a good 2-3 months to just mentally recover from what I experienced. I'm 29 weeks now with my 2nd and planning on another c section.. I just wanted to get it done and over with, I'm dreading it more than the actual newborn phase, lol.
My c section was not planned. I am two weeks and 3days into recovery and I'm finding it really hard. The guilt is horrendous. Not being able to get on the floor, to pick things up from the floor, to give my baby tummy time. It sucks, absolutely sucks. I am counting down the days that I can do things again and I feel awful for counting down the days because I should be loving spending time with my newborn not counting down the days. I just can't wait to be able to be a proper mother and not stuck in recovery. C section is no joke and neither is the recovery I would advise thinking long and hard before making the decision to have one or not. I was fine in the hospital because of the pain relief. It is so much more painful at home and the reality hits. The daily injections, the lack of mobility. The hot to touch skin. The strange feeling my back has since the epidural. The cold shoulder I've had ever since. Honestly it sucks. I'm just happy my baby is healthy and I love her so much. But yeah my c section will always be something I can't think about too much or I'll cry.
I’m 3 days post op and having the exact same feelings. I had a really traumatic planned c section although I really didn’t want to have a c section. I can’t wait to be able to care for my baby and do normal activities again. It’s been a terrible past few days since the op.
@@hollybooth6946 If it helps I am currently sat cross-legged on the floor feeding my baby. Recovery is not easy but it does get better. Be kind to yourself and let ur babys smile keep you going. You've got this!
Going through the exact situation here. It's day 8 post c-section and it's still hard, unthinkably hard! I hope to recover soon and take care of my baby well
Thanks for the honest feedback. I had a c-section a month ago, it was super painful, I can’t understand how other women can say it’s easy…sorry, I can’t believe it.
I have a very similar story to yours!! Baby was breach at 40wks so we tried the ECV and it failed (his heart rate dropped significantly) so we then went immediately into an emergency C-section! Not how we planned to meet our little man but it all went well and he is absolutely perfect!
Thank you. This video was really helpful. I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and I just found out that I’m going to have to have a c-section do to other health complications. I am definitely feeling worried about the recovery and being able to go back to work in a reasonable amount of time afterwards. Your video helped me feel a bit better about what I will be facing.
Wow, guess I'm lucky or maybe it's because I worked out throughout my whole pregnancy, ate clean, gained 25 lbs. But, I had an induction at 40 weeks, started with Pitocin, Dr. broke my water, labored for 13 hours, horrendous contractions from Pitocin eventualy asked for epidural at 5cm after vomiting and unbearable pain after all those hours. Awesome releif, after that. Got checked 2 hours after still at 5cm baby's head still high and floatng. Checked again 1 hour after baby head still not engaged now greenish amniotic fluid, head still high and baby having decelerations. We all agreed on C-section, rushed to ER, went so smoothly after this recovery was so easy!!! Pain pump off 1st day, home by second evening. Against MD orders driving by 4th day!! C-Section recovery was a breeze compared to labor!!
At my clinic they are asking me if I want an extra medication to help with the pain post C-section. But I have to decide before the day of C-section because it's the anesthesiologist who admisters it and they need to schedule the medication. It's an extra $400. So I i was thinking of not doing it and only having the regular Tylenol for the pain. But after watching this video, now I'm wondering if I should 😢 surgery is in two weeks and I need to tell them soon 😮💨
Just had my 9th c-section may 22nd 2024 Recovery is always different each time. This time its much easier, smoother and just positively different. My babies never latch on till maybe the first month but I keep pumping every 2hrs to bring on the milk supply and supplement with formula when needed. This time though, plus Im almost 40. My concern is my high blood pressure. Which I've always been a lower bp type of person.
Thank u so much for this video. This is a week after my c-section. I’m in Europe and the midwife advised me against the belly binder. But I have it on as we speak because I need for my stomach to go back it’s original shape. Def not out the woods yet, your voice is just so reassuring. Thank u!
Thanks for sharing! 11 months on do you think the belly binder was helpful in your recovery? I’m about to go in for c section on 5th March and I’m very keen to try and have my stomach back to its original condition (or as close as possible). I relied a lot on my core strength before 😢 Thanks ❤
@@cleft_3000hey how was your experience with belly binder?? i had an emergency c section 2 weeks ago and now on the same question you asked her earlier. Please reply
My Dearest Daughter is an IVF Baby... I got pregnant with twins&miscarried my other baby...it took a month... My water broke at 36 weeks... I had a prolapsed cord...I had an Emergency C Section... She is My Miracle Baby... Congratulations to you...
I just had a semi planned c section due to placenta previa (I had my c section a week earlier than my original planned c section due to also having preclampsia) The surgery went well and my pain seems to be minor however I do believe I am also using my core much more than I should be and that’s where my pain and discomfort is coming from. I can say I am only Tylenol and Motrin. The things I didn’t really expect: 1. The trying to pee after the catheter is removed. My muscles literally couldn’t push the pee out. 2. During the procedure and like an hour after I had reallly bad shakes (from the epidural and just nerves) 3. My face was extremely itchy (i was told it could be a minor reaction to the epidural)
I hope you and your baby are doing well. 💕 I also have placenta previa and they told me I would need a C-section super scared and anxious trying to stay positive
@@luisahenao6409 we’re doing great! And it is very scary but I would say after it was all said and done looking back the procedure was not bad at all. Now everyone is different but for me, my recovery was quick and I had basically no pain. My preeclampsia was what worried me the most but just listen to the docs, rest and try to relax and once that baby is here you won’t be thinking of anything else but that little angel
My wife had a C Section and the nurses will check that area by pressing on it. At first it was mild pressure to her abdominal area. But on the 3rd day, the nurse on duty really went harder than usual to "check" her uterus. I may be overprotective, but it seemed overly excessive pressure to do her assessment. Is that quite normal for the nurse to rub on it so aggressively? My wife looked a lot, a lot more pain than isualz
Im on day 5 post op from a miomectomy (removal of a mioma) and the belly binders for c sections have made such a difference in my recovery, i know it is t the same as a recovery from a c section but it has been difficult in many other ways. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks so much for this! My husband and I are just starting to try for our first. Since I'm 4'11" and 95 lbs I've been told my entire life I'd probably need a C-section-- but you ever know! Best to be prepared! 🙏❤
I am not quite as small as you but I delivered a 10lb, 12oz baby vaginally. The outside frame is not indicative of how the baby can come out. I’m 5’3 and 116 lbs so like I said- not as small but the body can do amazing things
You never know indeed! I'm much taller than you and ended up needing a c section unexpectedly. It's really up to the baby - women of all shapes and sizes have been giving birth forever! ❤
Thank you for sharing this video! Such a huge relief to hear this! I am 36 weeks pregnant and hoping for a vaginal delivery but preparing for the worst: a C-section lol.
Thank you for this. My wife just had a c section because of her blood pressure and our little one is in Nicu. Its our 1st baby, and her recovery is something she needs a lot of support for. Hence this video. The abdominal support thing helps her immensely, it just took a second to figure out how to do it. She has to use both hands on side so she doesn't strain too much and I get the other side to close it. Its tough because of the bathroom breaks you gotta take it off and back on everytime, so its something to learn to get done well especially when she's home.
I'm 40 years old and 35 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. My first born is 17. So it's been a while! I had a vaginal birth with my daughter. Labor was extremely painful and long. I ended up needing a episiotomy because her head and shoulders wouldn't fit. This time around baby is breech and I have high BP so my OB scheduled me to have a c-section at 37 weeks. I'm extremely scared. My husband is stationed in Texas and supposed to be getting deployed right when I'm due 😞 praying he gets his 12 weeks of paternity leave so he can help me with recovery. I have chronic pain due to arthritis and I'm currently on oxycodone. My OB said that because my body is used to taking it that we will need to come up with a post opt plan for my pain. I take my first dose at 6am. However the day of my c-section he doesn't want me to drink or eat anything after midnight. So now I'm really nervous 😓 I don't want to be in horrible pain.
@@babyboy9255 I was on it before I was pregnant for my arthritis in my neck and my OB said it would be too stressful on baby to stop taking. It's actually safe to take during pregnancy. Which is surprising considering Ibuprofen is dangerous to take if you're pregnant.
The C-section itself went extremely good! It's crazy because I felt like I wasn't numb and I was kind of freaking out a little bit but thankfully my anesthesiologist was amazing and he explained to me that our brains kind of trick us into thinking we can still move our legs he asked me to try to move my legs and it felt like I was doing it but he said not even a budge a LOL I did have complications afterwards though due to my tummy tuck I had 15 years ago. My uterus was up higher than it was supposed to be because of my tummy tuck and I wasn't getting the blood out of my body so the doctor had to stick his fingers inside me and the nurses were pushing down on my stomach as hard as they could which you can imagine right after a major abdominal surgery hurt like hell:-( so that made me Hemorrhage losing almost 2 liters of blood. I was extremely anemic about a month or two prior to giving birth to the point where my ears were ringing and I got really short of breath just standing up so I was having iron transfusions. Thankfully we got my blood count up to a normal amount before I had my C-section it could have been really dangerous if my blood count wasn't normal then losing all that blood on top of it. Thank you so much though for checking in and asking how it went I really appreciate that. I hope you have a wonderful day
had an emergency C-section last week no complications. Recovery The first week was rough but doable with painkillers. ❤ I tried getting off my pain meds way too soon. Don't be a hero! Take time to recover. also I think i would probably be fully recovered by now if my BMI wasn't so high. the most uncomfortable things -postpartum contractions - the nurse pressing on your tummy right after surgery 😮💨 - getting to the toilet in time right after surgery otherwise it wasn't a bad experience ❤
Congratulations Dr. Perez!! Thank you for the informative video. I’m glad you’re feeling rapidly better after 2 weeks. I had an unplanned C section last Monday (Halloween) after laboring quite a while. It’s my first major surgery so I was scared. Luckily the recovery hasn’t been bad aside from some intense edema. I find the binder helpful too. Again congrats to you and your family!! ❤
@@itspurejoy7927 I had the same thing, really bad edema in my feet! It all went away after about 2 weeks. I’m not sure if it helped, but I made sure to get up and walk around every few hours. Congratulations to you and baby! Wishing you a smooth recovery.
I felt like I had drank 1 of my avacado, banana, & coconut water concoctions... I pooped a massive 1 not long after. Prob tmi. But I was like wow, at least it didn't rip my butthole a bit tho. Like my drinks do. My hubby called on his work break asking me how I was doing & I really told him :/," I think the drs and nurses messed up my guts. Bc I really hafta go #2, (after a c section & getting my tubes tied...) & this should be interesting bc that part. & I feel like it wants to come out but it's like it's stuck or something. I had to get some t.paper and stimulate the area a bit, then I finally went. After some time. I had to tell myself to stop thinking about my surgeries bc I couldn't keep my waste in me forever. Idk how that came out of me 🤔
Thank you for this video. I hope you continue to recover well! After my unplanned c-section the trapped gas pain was one of the worst parts. Any tips to help pass gas in those first few days?
Unplanned c section at 35 weeks due to Preeclampsia. My question is why does my stomach feel so weird pressure and numbness like when I lay on my side everything inside of me is like it shifts to the same side like my organs are moving. Anybody else felt this?
I had a horrible 4th degree tear with my first and recovery was brutal. They wouldn’t let me out of bed for 24 hours after because i was too swollen to pee and passed out due to blood loss when they first tried to get me up to the bathroom. It was excruciating to move or sit. Recovery was so long. Months before i started feeling normal. For this baby my OB offered me an elective C-section and i’m not sure what to do.
I am in your same exact boat!!! ❤I am due in two weeks. I’m supposed to call the doctors on Monday to let them know what I have decided… it’s scary either way… I am going to elect to do the C section. I don’t think that recovery could be worst than my first which was similar to yours and absolutely horrific… I hope all goes easier for you this time around 🙏
To anyone reading, you will be fine! I was up and walking 6 hours later. I showered comfortably not long after. Take meds before you feel pain. Roll on your side and push up with your arms to get up, don’t use your abs for a few weeks at least.
Thank you so much for your video! I have a question about hemorrhage after c section. After 7 days from the day I got C Section I started to feel a lot better … went to the bathroom and blood started to flow from me like crazy with big clogs! And no one ever told me it is a possibility. 16 hours in emergency room saved me and they gave me Tranexamic acid 650 mg to take for 5 days. I did but i still have dark blood coming … not too much, but still, it didn’t stop. And i’m scared to go to the bathroom everytime now. My question is: what is too much blood and when should I be alert and call the doctor?
It's so interesting to hear other people's experience. I had a planned c section in May for a complete previa. Very strange experience. Like you said, no pain but for me it felt like someone was trying to rip my diaphragm out. It was quite intense. My pain afterward really wasn't too bad. My body reacted very well to that long lasting pain medicine they place in the spinal. I was very comfortable right after surgery. Also my hospital does IV Toradol and acetaminophen for the first 24 hrs scheduled and that really helped. Then the ibuprofen PO was scheduled too so I never had to ask. I think the second and third evening after I had been moving around all day I did need the breakthrough medication just from over doing it. I also needed it a few tines at home when I fell behind with my ibuprofen/tylenol. Chasing pain is no fun! Now almost 6 months out I am starting to have some problems though. My scar just burns and stings all the time. It's also numb which is weird. Also having absolute miserable back pain. Just started pelvic floor PT and I hope it helps.
Is there a bassinet that you recommend for c-section with my last 2 baby's that were c-section I ended up sleeping in a recliner cuz it was hard to get out of bed and reach the baby. Any advice or recommendations
Great video, thank you! One question about the binder (and it might be stupid, but I'm rolling with it) - if you're putting it over your postpartum panties, that means you're taking it off every time you go to the bathroom, right? My situation was exactly like yours - first birth smooth and vaginal, and the second was a c section and I'm on day 7 now. I'm struggling with this binder as I've been under the impression that it should not go over the incision....
I didn’t have a horrible experience with my c section all I can say is that they didn’t tell me that I wasn’t going to be able to feel my legs for a while after and that freaked me out . And the night of or next night (can’t really remember because it was 10 years ago) I was in extreme pain not from gas it was from being cut open lol I was young and didn’t know I could ask for pain medication I guess . Plus I was at holy cross so I don’t think they would have helped me anyways . I can say that I have had lowered back pain ever since that damn epidural( never had lower back pain in my life before that ) . And then the only other thing that really sticks out to me was that poop when you get home , I had no idea about the constipation !! It was horrible trying to poo and I didn’t have the family or resources to get prune juice or anything like that . But besides that I trooped through it and was cleaning my house to stay active so I healed really good .
I had pain for 10+ weeks. I think the diffence with me was I had been a welder moving very heavy equipment before I became pregnant. So as anyone can imagine I had a lot of core muscle. They really had to rip through the muscle and my husband said they struggled for a bit. The pain I felt after I would only wish on my true enemies. So if you have a strong core, I discourage it. Just my experience.
Thank you so much for this video! Having my first via scheduled c section in a few weeks. Any tips for breastfeeding at night specifically during that first week of recovery? Did you physically get out of bed and sit up in a chair? Did you do a side lying position? Did your husband prop you up or get you up? I’m afraid to use my core early on.
wow this is so bizzare, I was walking up and down my stairs in my townhouse since day 2 after c section cause i have no choice. kitchen is on the 2nd floor and bedroom and bathroom on the 3rd. But i also was going for a short walk on day 3 and 4 outside with a stroller. Like 15 min or so walk. I remember midwife was like dont take stairs too much.. although the outside scar was healing well. Many people who did had c section were looking at me like i am crazy.. i couldn't understand why not.. but looks like i was the crazy one..
I'm terrified of a C section because I'm not skinny and have never in my life had a flat stomach. Doctors have gotten so many things wrong about my body and my medical conditions due to their hatred and prejudice against fat people that I simply don't trust them to cut my body in a way that would facilitate healing with my curves. I'm 35 weeks and honestly feel like I have been lost in a sea of bad medical systems. Although individual providers have been kind, there has been slow and ineffective communication systems and I have been left feeling like I and my baby don't matter and are irrelevant among the massive amounts of patients. It saddens me so so much that I will not be able to form a relationship with any medical provider in time for birth and will be surrounded by strangers at birth who don't know me, my life story, my trauma triggers, or the story of this child. My primary care doctor just left the practice and no one told me. She had promised me she would wait until the baby was born. I got abnormal test results back from the hospital (6 of them) and no one has reached out to explain them, and I won't see any doctor for days. I will have to spend hours on the phone and patient portal to get any answers. They put in my file "suspected fetal anomalies" and it took me 4 sleepless anxiety ridden days to get an answer to what that meant.... they put that in everyone's chart for insurance billing reasons... but don't tell the patient. I had a doctor and a social worker say I was the only patient who ever noticed that in my file.... out of the thousands and thousands of patients this large hospital has. I'm 38 and this is my first baby. I wish the system was different and holistic.
I echo so many of your wishes! There are tons of changes that would make our medical, especially pregnancy and birth, system more holistic. I also agree that patient portal results are not patient-centered. As our health system is not set up with the resources to answer questions outside of visits, these immediate release results (which just started in 2021 as part of a federal law, doctors have no choice) cause a lot of distress and anxiety.
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. No one should be treated this way. You have every right to feel how you feel. I hope and pray that your delivery goes well and that you have a healthy baby. Don't give up.
Thank you so much for this informative video! I am most likely going to have a scheduled c-section due to my type of pregnancy and have been feeling extremely anxious and scared about it all, so thank you very much, this has helped ease some of that anxiety. (This is also my first child)
Wishing you best of luck on your planned C-section. I had mine 16 days ago, it was a wonderful experience and I had such a speedy and easy recovery. I was terrified before surgery but everything went so smoothly. Don't be anxious and scared , yours will go well as well ❤
I hated recovering from c-section. It wasn't a planned one - it was an emergency, so partly i just wasn't prepared for it. But I struggled so much with not being able to move normally for the 1st few weeks and then I did up with an infection in the incision - which, judging from your nice photo of your scar only 2 weeks after the surgery, I'd had much longer than I even realized. I live in Japan and opiate pain relief isn't even generally an option, as far as I'm aware. so i was quite sore... they do keep you in the hospital for about 5 days though so that helps a bit. I tried looking into VBAC so i can avoid a 2nd c-section, but in my area, doctors just refuse to do them (although several hospitals in Tokyo will let you try). So looks like I'm going to have to get through it a 2nd time around. Hoping this time it goes better than the 1st. If anyone has tips, advice, or words of encouragement, please do leave them in reply!
I was in labor for 3 days after induction and then needed a c section as his head was to big and I couldn't push him and his heart rate started dropping.
My vaginal birth was complicated by a cervical laceration which hemorrhaged as well as a severe tear..after 2 blood transfusions they removed the urinary catheter about 12 hrs after I gave birth. I had a hard time walking around until about 3 weeks post partum. They didnt have me walk almost at all in the 5 day hospital stay because it was so painful. I'm wondering if a c-section next time will be easier and less painful. It seems that way
What’s the normal procedure when the OB starts closing you up after the baby is out? For example: - A double closure of the uterus - Closure of the abdominal muscle - Closure of the fat layer
( I prayed A Lot too) 💞💞🙏🙏🙏
I had mine 12/27 only Tylenol that’s it 🎉🙏🏽
How long did you have to stay in the hospital I have a scheduled c section for my second baby this is my first time having to get a c section I’m 39 weeks and I’m nervous
I have mine on the 24th and you have no clue how happy your post made me! I hope you and baby are doing amazing ❤️ thank you for the motivation!!
Thank you 🙏 for this comment, I have scheduled first C-Section in two weeks, I am terrified about the recovery process.
I think you took my comment out of context since you focused so much on what I said about not wasting time on reading through negative "commnets.""
I wanted to clarify what I meant.
Kudos to you for all three c-sections you had and for standing tall 👏 , and congratulations on your newborn ❤ I always have an open mind. Don't judge a person based on a sentence :)
I’m having my planned c-section tomorrow morning, I’d an emergency C-section previously just little nervous and can’t wait to meet my baby boy
Great video! A provider undergoing a surgery and then giving tips on it is probably the best possible source of information! Thank you!
Amen.
Your a good Dad
Wish you and your family the best!
Thanks for being there for her. How did she manage the swelling?
I'm not going to lie I'm nervous and scared but seeing the baby in this video has reminded me that I'm getting a baby out of this
same here! now 28weeks too
@@Masixolemeintjies56 hey, how did it go? 🤗
Someone that did c section, how long will she recover her body back?
I have a planned c-section booked for 2 weeks from now for a breech baby and seeing you snuggle your baby throughout this video was so calming to me. My worry comes from not being able to bond and connect with my baby to the same capacity as I would with a vaginal delivery so this was really nice to see and hear. Thank you for walking us through your experience!
As OB nurse who was privileged to have a high risk pregnancy ,cerclage, mgso4 infusion, CS,premature baby....I was educated about the other side of health care. It's so important maternal care improve drastically in this country
I'm an IC cerclage mama too❤
One thing that often does not get talked about with abdominal surgery is the painful gas that follows. The gas after my c section had me in tears. It was nearly unbearable. The incision didn’t hurt, but trapped gas was unbelievably painful.
@tinamapp2665 i didn't have any painful gas whatsoever, i was bracing myself for it but it never came..then again I've never had issues with going to the bathroom so maybe that has something to do with it 🤣
I had the same trapped gas and it made me cry! It was the worse part of my healing
@@D.Suber4pls what did u do about it, i had CS days ago and the gas is killing me
The belly binder was a key thing that helped me the most.
Could you please let me know when you started wearing belly binder after c section. I delivered a baby with c section 2 days ago.
@@garrysandhu4938 I started wearing it immediately. If I didn’t I felt like my insides were loose. I didn’t make it extrema tight just wrapped it enough to feel secure.
As soon as possible but just be careful with infections and also when you remove it if feels everything go loose again. But don’t forget to let it breath
Which is more painful you think
That makes me sad. I don’t know why there’s this notion that C-sections are “easy“ or something. It’s major surgery… Recovery sucks.
When do you wear the abdominal pain im 2 days post op I have a lot of pressure and pain when I’m trying to walk to the bathroom and stuff
Did you get induced first? Or spontaneous labour?
This was very helpful. I jist had my son 5days ago and I've been having a rough recovery. The Dr called in oxycodone. I just hate taking it and while breastfeeding.
But the pain is so deep and burning. Transition from laying to sitting and sitting to standing is the hardest. I'm grateful my husband can fully nurse me because Im messed up. Looking forward to fully healing
My recovery was/still is rough. I had the same issue with sitting, standing, and laying down. Almost 4 weeks along and it gets better!
I also just realized you wrote this 4 months ago. Hopefully you are fully recovered!
We are planning for our second c section. How are you?
@ashleylaw1284 how did the surgery go?

Thank you so much for this video. I just found out that I have placenta previa and will likely need a C-section. I had a vaginal delivery with my daughter that was medically traumatic and am terrified of the c-section. This video really helped calm some of those nerves.
First of all congratulations on the beautiful baby. Second i appreciate this. Learned a lot to prepare for mine. Thank you!
Thanks so much for ur video! I had my C-section done 2 days ago it’s my first night at home nd I’m in so much pain but ik ill b good soon
Thanks for the encouraging information from your video
❤
I hope you and your baby are doing well and you are recovering well from the surgery. I'm having my c section in a week and a half.
Oh my gosh, the nurse *ripped* my catheter out so hard I literally jumped. The first time I peed felt like hot lava. 😭
😭😭😭
Yeah I think I’m gunna attempt the VBAC. I was lucky with my first c section I didn’t have much pain. Recovery took longer but I don’t want to risk the trauma of having that pain. I’m scared I won’t be able to be okay with managing it mentally.
As a substance use researcher, I SO appreciate your note on proper opioid disposal ❤
Thank you! I’m getting ready to have a second c-section in a couple of months. My first was a horrific experience and I’m trying to be prepared because I’m choosing this route this time. (Different hospital and drs so I know it will be different). It was very helpful to see and hear from a dr that has gone through it.
Thank you for this I am scheduled for one next week praying for safe and speedy recovery ❤
My cesarean will be in Dec. I can't wait. This will be my second. The first was really fast and easy
I have a very similar story to yours!! Baby was breach at 40wks so we tried the ECV and it failed (his heart rate dropped significantly) so we then went immediately into an emergency C-section! Not how we planned to meet our little man but it all went well and he is absolutely perfect!
This was so helpful and quelled A LOT of my fear about my scheduled c section. So thankful.
Congratulations, wishing you a speedy recovery!!
Very thorough video, thank you for sharing your experience, Dr. Marta Perez
Just had my 9th c-section may 22nd 2024
Recovery is always different each time.
I relied a lot on my core strength before 😢
Thanks ❤
@@cleft_3000hey how was your experience with belly binder?? i had an emergency c section 2 weeks ago and now on the same question you asked her earlier. Please reply
Ibuprofen and Tylenol I heard can be taken together since once is filtered by kidneys and other by liver.
I just had a semi planned c section due to placenta previa (I had my c section a week earlier than my original planned c section due to also having preclampsia)
The surgery went well and my pain seems to be minor however I do believe I am also using my core much more than I should be and that’s where my pain and discomfort is coming from. I can say I am only Tylenol and Motrin.
The things I didn’t really expect:
1. The trying to pee after the catheter is removed. My muscles literally couldn’t push the pee out.
2. During the procedure and like an hour after I had reallly bad shakes (from the epidural and just nerves)
3. My face was extremely itchy (i was told it could be a minor reaction to the epidural)
I hope you and your baby are doing well. 💕
I also have placenta previa and they told me I would need a C-section super scared and anxious trying to stay positive
That abdominal binder is everything!!! I love mine!
Thanks so much for this! My husband and I are just starting to try for our first. Since I'm 4'11" and 95 lbs I've been told my entire life I'd probably need a C-section-- but you ever know! Best to be prepared! 🙏❤
I'm shorter than you and was able to have a vaginal delivery with no problem :) good luck!!
@@selenaj91 Omg thank you! ❤
I am not quite as small as you but I delivered a 10lb, 12oz baby vaginally. The outside frame is not indicative of how the baby can come out. I’m 5’3 and 116 lbs so like I said- not as small but the body can do amazing things
@@laurenswift9368 Wow! Congrats, wonder woman!
What ended up happening ?
Thank you for this. My wife just had a c section because of her blood pressure and our little one is in Nicu.
Its our 1st baby, and her recovery is something she needs a lot of support for. Hence this video.
The abdominal support thing helps her immensely, it just took a second to figure out how to do it.
She has to use both hands on side so she doesn't strain too much and I get the other side to close it.
Its tough because of the bathroom breaks you gotta take it off and back on everytime, so its something to learn to get done well especially when she's home.
Thanks alot I saw ur video and it's really helpful but please add or made another video how to move or sit after c section.
How can u Hv oxycodon with baby in tummy?
@@babyboy9255 I was on it before I was pregnant for my arthritis in my neck and my OB said it would be too stressful on baby to stop taking. It's actually safe to take during pregnancy. Which is surprising considering Ibuprofen is dangerous to take if you're pregnant.
How did this go for you, hope you're both safe and healthy
I hope you have a wonderful day
Thank you! Your video was so helpful! Both pregnancies i had c sections, one emergent & the other urgent. 2nd time around, healing is a bit rough.
Watching this a week before my elective C section. Thanks for sharing all the details.
Hiya how did it go?
had an emergency C-section last week no complications. Recovery The first week was rough but doable with painkillers. ❤ I tried getting off my pain meds way too soon. Don't be a hero! Take time to recover. also I think i would probably be fully recovered by now if my BMI wasn't so high.
the most uncomfortable things
-postpartum contractions
- the nurse pressing on your tummy right after surgery
😮💨
- getting to the toilet in time right after surgery
otherwise it wasn't a bad experience ❤
Congratulations Dr. Perez!! Thank you for the informative video. I’m glad you’re feeling rapidly better after 2 weeks. I had an unplanned C section last Monday (Halloween) after laboring quite a while. It’s my first major surgery so I was scared. Luckily the recovery hasn’t been bad aside from some intense edema. I find the binder helpful too. Again congrats to you and your family!! ❤
How did u get ur Tommy back please 🙏🏽
Have you recovered from the edema, I am 3 days post c section and have edema in my feet that’s driving me nuts
@@itspurejoy7927 I had the same thing, really bad edema in my feet! It all went away after about 2 weeks. I’m not sure if it helped, but I made sure to get up and walk around every few hours. Congratulations to you and baby! Wishing you a smooth recovery.
@@kumikosachs4619 thank you yes it did help also propping my feet up while laying down really helped. And thank you 🙏🏾 ❤️
My first bowel movement after c section wasn’t until almost 2 weeks pp 😳 it was such a relief
Yes you have to get up and try to walk they shouldve prescribed something like colace
So weird but do you remember itching while the spinal was wearing off?
M6 sons cord was around his neck. I had an Emergency C-Section my daughter was just a planned C-Section.
Unplanned c section at 35 weeks due to Preeclampsia. My question is why does my stomach feel so weird pressure and numbness like when I lay on my side everything inside of me is like it shifts to the same side like my organs are moving. Anybody else felt this?
It take a while for organs to get back in place and it feels like it’s swimming around and uncomfortable but it’s temporary
I had a C-Section in 1983 and another one in 1986. When it rains I still get pain.
To anyone reading, you will be fine! I was up and walking 6 hours later. I showered comfortably not long after. Take meds before you feel pain.
Roll on your side and push up with your arms to get up, don’t use your abs for a few weeks at least.
Can you please share information about your pregnancy pillow. Really liked it. I had c section and felt breast feeding was very difficult after that.
So very helpful! I have a scheduled csection also due to a breech baby! Nice to know what to expect!
How did it go? I’m so scared to have mine 😢
Congratulations Dr!! I literally love your videos 🎉❤️
This was very interesting, in Canada they dont give anything other than tylenol advil and they make you keep a wound vac thing on for like a week.
Did ob nursing decades, only saw wound vac when working briefly at nursing home. Was there infection? Do you go home with wound vac?
Is there a bassinet that you recommend for c-section with my last 2 baby's that were c-section I ended up sleeping in a recliner cuz it was hard to get out of bed and reach the baby. Any advice or recommendations
Thank you so much for sharing and educating c section recovery. It really helps me be prepared the surgery ❤
Congratulations! Enjoy your bundle of joy. Wishing you a safe recovery ❤️🩹.
So grateful for you! 🙏🏾
If anyone has tips, advice, or words of encouragement, please do leave them in reply!
heyy just wanted to check on you ,have you given birth yet,btw i recently had a c section and still recovering 😊
@kudzaiishe4882 hi - not yet! In the beginning of next month the c-section is scheduled. How is your recovery going so far?
Thank you for this, so helpful and informative!
Congratulations 💓 I love your videos. They are very helpful. I am 30wks pregnant getting prepared. I've had all natural births.
Thank you for your video! I had an abdominal hysterectomy almost two weeks ago and your video was super helpful!!!
For example:
- A double closure of the uterus
- Closure of the abdominal muscle
- Closure of the fat layer
