Kids know when adults hate them. Teachers, doctors, parents, anyone. They can feel it. This is why it’s so important to be kind to children.

    • @deusexaethera

Anyone knows when anyone hates them, but yes, that includes children. The problem is that children will internalize the way they are treated by their caregivers and continue treating their inner child that way when they become adults.

I try very hard to show my students that I care about them
My teaching degree absolutely did not prepare me for actually being the only adult in the classroom outside of the very specific white middle class suburban type of school.
I'm really thankful for the program I got into in collage that was specifically meant to give extra training for upcoming teachers in underprivileged schools (this included a huge variety of schools, super urban school, super rural schools, even teaching in a juvenile detention center)

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 10 месяцев назад +1

The crazy part is that reservations are a trick of diplomacy -- Natives were compelled to sell or give their land to the USA, but were "encouraged" (at gunpoint) to "reserve" a portion for their own use. The land wasn't reserved by the US government on behalf of the Natives, the treaties were written in a way to make the Natives look generous.

as a Native person i appreciate this. in Canada too alot of our reserves don’t even have clean drinking water. It’s a stereotype that we have so many benefits we don’t even have to work. Our people drop like flies. We suffer from the aftermath of colonial genocide. Inter generational trauma haunts our communities.

America doesn’t give af about a lot of things, it’s part of the reason why they’re taking away so many people’s rights. We seriously need to bring the freedom into America, otherwise we’re just another country on this damned planet. Natives in America don’t even get decent healthy food and drinking water, it makes me want to cry. Nobody deserves to be treated the way people who aren’t straight white men are in America. My heart goes out to anybody on the reservations who are struggling.

I grew up with a couple of transracial people. A lot of Chinese girls got adopted to white families because of the One Child Policy. There's some... checkered history that comes with transracial adoptions. When white families adopt children of color there's often some extra baggage that comes along with it.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not advocating that white families avoid adopting non-white kids, I'm just saying that white families need to put in a little extra effort to learn and support their kid. And they need to be cognizant of why those kids need adopting in the first place.

Do you have all your needs met?
When was the last time y’all cuddled, played a game, or watched a film? When was the last time you guys cooked together? Often times when our needs aren’t met we feel like the other person doesn’t care about us.
I was feeling so upset with my partner until we held hands. Im a very touchy person and didn’t realize until afterwards that we hadn’t had the ability to cuddle in over three weeks due to schooling, work, and other personal issues. I wasn’t mad, I felt alone and couldn’t verbalize it. Same way we get snippy when we’re hungry.

Ugh I'm so sorry, I hope the guy apologized at least and I'm glad his husband was comforting.
But about the whole idea that narcissists are evil masterminds - please lmk if I'm out of my lane or being offensive since I'm mentally ill but not with a personality disorder, I just wanna add my perspective as someone who's the classic example people point to when talking about the ~victims~ of people with PDs, since my dad's mentally ill (probably NPD) and was also abusive towards me and my mom... People forget that feeling like "the world surrounds you" isn't just a fun "I'm special" feeling, it's also insanely overwhelming and at the core of a lot of anxiety issues. When someone feels like everything is about them, it can also mean they feel like everything is their responsibility/fault and everything is a personal attack. My dad was fucking terrified, constantly, and never wanted to admit it because he worried people were out to get him (including my mom, his family, and when my parents separated, his girlfriend) and if he showed fear it'd be a weakness, and if he was weak he'd die. It was so bad that when my uncle bought a Dodge Challenger - a very normal car for middle-aged guys to like - he thought it was my uncle's way of trying to make me like him more than my dad. (Note: I'm not into cars and know next to nothing about them lol).
He dealt with that anxiety with drinking, drugs, and lashing out and pushing people's buttons to "retake power" (and he definitely was _not_ a mastermind, at the worst of times he was just... a shitty bully, he didn't have any large scale end goal, he didn't even have a plan for when people inevitably had bad reactions to being treated like shit). Others obviously deal with anxiety differently. Every person with NPD or any other disorder is going to have different symptoms and deal with it differently, the same as any person going through literally anything. It doesn't excuse when people do make bad decisions, it's just like... weird when we assume everyone is going to make those bad decisions and don't even try to understand when they make bad decisions. The best way we can let people get through anxiety and mental illness is with widespread kindness and acceptance to try and reduce that fear.

Let’s see here, we’ve gone through a global pandemic, more mass sh**tings than days of the year, watched the former President nearly overthrow the government, our planet is currently boiling alive, the government hates LGBT folks and especially Trans kids, Republicans want to completely sabotage public schools, and basically the next election cycle will decide if we live in a dictatorship or not. Meanwhile, the older generations not only caused the horrific state of the world we current live under (Thanks, Boomers), but also blame us younger folks for being “whiny snowflakes”. If kids are being mean to you, there’s probably a reason.

Whenever you think about people not being "allowed" to have children unless XYZ, ask yourself: "Do I trust my government to enforce this fairly?" These kinds of sentiments often lead to eugenics, whether that was the original purpose or just rich bigots in charge taking advantage of it.
Instead of "not allowing" people to have kids, how about we make resources more available, like offering free parenting classes? PSAs spreading info on these things? More community-centered care for children? There are better options than punishing people for having kids without "permission".

@@comicallylargerodent9155 I understand where all y'all are coming from, I used to think the same way, but again: do you trust this to be enforced fairly? Any sort of mandatory condition to fulfill to have children opens up an avenue for discrimination by those in charge of enforcing it. Imagining fictional ideal realities is great and all, but we're discussing the real world, and we have to be realistic about how these kinds of things are likely to play out or we'll just create an even worse situation.
I like some of your other ideas, like if we put parenting classes in the lineup of everyone's standard education, then failure would just mean delayed graduation. And of course, free programs and resources that are easily accessible to everyone.

Top tip (TW abuse but nothing explicit, it's fairly vague)
Instead of saying "victim"/"victim of", try to use "suvivor"/"survivor of" instead. Ofcourse it depends on the individual and you should absolutely use whatever they prefer.
When I was coming to terms with my trauma, one of the things that held me back the most was how others would perceive me. Had I been irreparably changed and harmed? Yes, but the last thing I wanted was to be seen as a victim all my life, before I was seen for who I am as a person. The word "victim" made me feel small, helpless and like damaged goods. I am not damaged goods. I am a survivor.
I have my battlescars and they have changed me. I may have been victim to violence, but I'm a survivor because I got through it.
I hope this helps people understand that terminology is important when tackling trauma and that if you have trauma, you have the choice of what word you use for yourself. Your trauma may change you but it doesn't define you, you define yourself ❤

    • @goblinguy3103
      @goblinguy3103 10 месяцев назад +14

It definitely depends. I prefer to be called a victim of abuse because I want my abusers to be held responsible. I refuse to be a “survivor” because that makes it sound like they weren’t responsible

    • @AnarchicCrow
      @AnarchicCrow 10 месяцев назад +5

@@goblinguy3103That's your right to choose and I imagine the main reason most people who refer to themselves as victims do so for that reason. Personally, I don't feel that way, I explained why and I think unless you know someone's preference, it's best to say "survivor" as I feel like it gives people more autonomy, whereas the word "victim" seems to focus on the loss of autonomy (which is not perpetual, you will regain your autonomy even if you have been denied it, this is to anyone who may be reading and feel the same way I did).
You can be a survivor and hold your abuser/s accountable, for me the label is about self-accepance, not my abuser.
Again, that's just my thought and people are entitled to identify however they choose.

Please tell me if any of these questions are phrased badly, and if you have the spoons, knowledge, and time to answer one or more, please do. If you yourself are black I particularly need and appreciate your input! If you know of resources for me to find this information, that would also be good.
    1. How do braids work? Why do black people have to cut them out? What does it mean if they have growth, does their hair not grow when it's in braids?
    2. What's the difference between braids, dreadlocks, coils, etc?
    3. What is the cultural and historical meaning behind black hair (ik this is very general but I just want to know how if there are styles that would be bad for fantasy)
    4. How difficult are braids, cornrows, afros, etc. to do? Could someone do it on their own or would they need someone else who knows what to do with their hair to help?
    5. Is black hair more delicate and easy to break than other textures? I know they wear those silk hair things or use silk pillow cases but is that just because it's curly?
    6. What kind of basic things do you have to do to take care of your hair, preferably steps that are achievable in a D&D-ish fantasy setting?
    7. Not quite hair related, although it could be, but any absolute do-nots that I should avoid during characterization? I would hope I haven't done anything racist, but I'd like to know if there's anything I should try to avoid, or just avoid completely.

5:42 this is an issue i've been grappling with as a white pagan/spiritual person for a while now. i look at other ethnicities and cultures, and there's so much for them to be proud of and celebrate. i wish i had that. i wish i had a spiritual home, a sense of belonging, that doesn't trace back to my racist, Christian imperialist ancestors. the only solutions i can think of, are to either try looking through my ancestry *long enough* until i find people from maybe thousands of years ago who were actual decent people. it would bring me such a sense of peace, to look back far enough beyond the many generations of Christians, and find pagans in my heritage. that, or just abandoning the concept of ancestral discovery altogether. because i know the majority of my ancestors have disowned me. they would look at me, a queer, pagan witch, and spit on me, calling me an unholy disgrace. so i don't need them. i can have a culture of my own making, that doesn't steal anything from other cultures. i hope other white spiritual folks who are struggling with this same issue realize the harm they do by their cultural appropriation, and can find other ways to express themselves spiritually without resorting to spiritual theft. white folks deserve to have a spiritual home too; i feel happy for the white Christians (who aren't toxic about their religion) who feel at home with their beliefs, but i can't see myself ever returning to that religion.
i'm afraid that no matter how hard i try to make my own spiritual home, every idea i come up with won't be an original idea, thus making it accidental plagiarism of other cultures. i just want to be me and have a home somewhere without hurting anyone, because of the moral atrocities of my ancestors that i have no control over. all i can control is myself, but i'm so *scared* that my efforts will never be good enough.
i'm about ready to abandon all of my human clothes, and exist in nature as my naked self. maybe then i'll belong. and once there is no more skin, nothing left of me but bones, and the mushrooms, moss and worms overtake me, maybe then i'll finally be home.

Isn't she just referring to "cottagecore" or like "witch aesthetic" which both of which insult people who are actually practicing witchcraft. You can practice witchcraft no matter your race/ethnicity or even religion. People just thought i t was like: "omg! SARAH THATS SO CUTEEE!".
But grouping white people as a whole as if they have no spiritual connection is a rude assumption and generalization. It comes down to someone's background and personal experience rather than race.

@@bubbleanxietea9593 see like, i can see where she's coming from because white people *do* end up culturally and spiritually appropriating other races' cultures. the white girl talked about in the video had her hair styled in a specific way that's unique to black people, and it did come across as racist to me. but there are ways white people can connect to and express their spirituality without stealing it from other cultures. for example, i love the thought of having trinkets/accessories in my hair, but i would never braid it in a way that's specific to black folks (if you've ever seen the movie Tangled, think about how Rapunzel got her hair braided and flowers were put in it).

In the past, any time I've wanted to educate myself on these matters, it's always been to the detriment of my mental health, because it was always in a way that wasn't compatible with me. These videos are honestly amazing though - they're comprised of shorter clips, which helps with my attention span, they cover a range of topics, which helps me get little bits of everything, and they allow me to learn about these things that are so important to me in a way that is actually manageable for me, and I appreciate that so much. I hope you have a wonderful day/night :). /gen

Hi y’all! I had a interesting and a not fun interaction back to back and I kinda needed to talk abt it in a not joking way cause idk (if u can’t tell i’m amazing w words so bear w me /s)
If it’s too long j skip to the bottom for a summary.
So I was eating lunch w my friend outside and these two guys come up to us and ask to borrow a phone to call their friend. It took a bit of figuring out but they were able to get in touch and I gave them directions on how to get to the place they were trying to meet them at. They were chill and I was kinda nervous cause I don’t talk to ppl (esp ppl idk) but it was nice so i felt kinda proud of myself for being able to interact w them (sound kinda self absorbed but idk how to phrase it better). Anyways right after they walked away these other guys came up and one of them said something at me that i didn’t catch so I had to ask like 3 times for him to repeat himself. When I finally heard him it was something derogatory that i think was supposed to be flirting (i don’t feel comfy typing it) but anyways i shut it down and he made another joke as a follow up which i responded awkwardly to. The interaction was rly uncomfy so I didn’t realize he was supposed to be hitting on us until my friend and i were talking abt it on the way back to class.
Anyways made me feel icky and it makes me sad that it happened right after a situation where i stepped out of my comfort zone and was happy w my choice.
TLDR: helped some strangers and was happy, immediately got hit on and didn’t feel happy

3:04 those first two are really stupid to "mock" or turn around.
Saying it's unethical is kind of weird and not true but don't mock people for not wanting a polyamorous relationship for themselves.
It is true that it's a lot to ask of several people to all love you and the other(s) equally much.
If you can find a relationship like that, that's awesome.
But the second one is just absurd and all it does is make others seem rude when they're not.
It's natural that a monogamous person would say they'd get jealous in a polyamorous relationship and the reverse makes no sense, because jealousy would occur because of love/time/attention being divided amongs multiple people. If there is one person, there is way less to be jealous of.

eventually became a pirate to keep some sort of life. goes around trying to find books about vampires and other vampires.
he managed to avoid the great war by going into hibernation (he would've tried to fight but kept being called a spy so), which turned into avoiding both world wars and having to suddenly navigate all the new tech n shit.

Oh god I have so many. Let’s go with Aria and Ospray
They are a species called carnies that live on a planet called goofy with clowns and mimes. Carnies main thing is that they can walk on the air when they’re barefoot. They are also expected to be entertainers in the same way that people in real life are expected to be doctors or lawyers. They are descendent from mimes which means they are naturally grayscale and paint themselves different colors. They can’t change their shade of hair or skin though.
Anyways Aria is a mediocre gymnast who joins up with famous comedian Ospray as her opening act. He eventually gets a clown to invent ice skates that he can walk on the air with and ends up overshadowing Ospray and they have a falling out.
Aria is a man with medium brown/green/blue skin and orange or pink hair down to his ankles. He likes wearing flowy dresses during his act because it looks majestic in the air. He is very tall and thin.
Ospray has dark purple skin and never changes it. She is short and plus sized with a big Afro she likes to stick feathers into. She dressses like a 1920s “male impersonator”

Haha, you want me to info dump? 😳👉👈 Allison “Allen” Natus: A 16 year old girl from the state of Montana who was an advocate for her father’s Right Wing Anti-Mutant policies, who in a shocking twist of events, becomes a Mutant herself before running away into Canada where she crosses paths with Wolverine. Allen’s mutation centers around Light absorption and depending on how much light she absorbs, the more intense her abilities become. She can shoot energy beams and later in the story, concentrate light with the intense heat her body gives off to form crystals that can be shot as projectiles or formed into small weapons/shields. However, her Mutation also turns her skin and hair pigment completely white-her blood is also black-,and due to the nature of her powers, causes her body to generate heat that can be strong enough to singe most fabrics and her skin to glow in dark lighting conditions. In essence, there’s a trade off; Along with light fueling her powers, Darkness weakens her on the contrary.
Throughout her story, she has to do a lot of unlearning what she grew up believing about Mutants, eventually confronting her father who had suppressed his Mutation in the name of faith. Love it when Wolverine picks up a distraught teen on the side of the road lol

Guys, people don't seem to hear this enough so KIDS REMEMBER EVERYTHING. They don't view every day as "just another tuesday", this is their CHILDHOOD. You need to take their lives into consideration, they aren't just a background piece. They have thoughts and feelings, and they're still getting used to the world around them. Guardians or role models need to recognize that they aren't fully developed yet, and they NEED someone to show them how the world is. You are how you were raised a lot of times, and if you neglect your child, theres a high chance that they will neglect you, others, and maybe even their own kids in the future. And going back to them remembering everything, I mean that. They can remember even the smallest of things. They can remember tiny details that made them happy or sad and how you reacted to it, even if you forgot about it almost immediately. Treat them kindly, they'll remember it. I remember every detail of multiple things from my childhood, even my early childhood. They remember how you made them feel. They don't just forget if you lash out at them because you're in a bad mood. It is your job to take care of them, do it right.
Edit: Take 11:25 . This is a really good example of what to do here - I'm not saying take it exactly, but just be gentle. Let them have some control. Don't be inconsiderate. I've already typed a lot, so I'll let this sink in on its own.

i was a “mean kid” whose teachers mostly hated and gave up on me. i was an inconvenience they didn’t want to deal with. i was actually being abused at home and didn’t know any adult who was worth my respect frankly, it was hostility from all sides but because i was gifted nobody cared. i was smart so that was supposed to somehow mitigate for my complete lack of support even for my basic needs. i’m a senior in undergrad with a 4.0 now but that’s after dropping out of high school and taking a decade off. it took a lot for me to come back.

Black people would get in trouble/videos taken down on tik tok for saying "white people" so they have to tap their palms
