Thanks ever so much for this. My dad has been fighting cancer. And when it’s his time. I want to cover this for his day. Thin Lizzy was his favourite band. Remember being the back of the cortina with my sisters while he drove windows open fingers tapping on the roof, with this full blast. I’ve got it down now, thanks to this lesson.just need to do the solo and it’s ok to go to the studio. Thank you so much. 🙏 I know from posting a couple of covers before that you get de monetised for these kind of vids. So the fact that guys like you make this kinda of content is so cool to me. Thanks again.
Sometimes you love a song & then it gets even cooler when you see the mechanics of it. This is one of those for sure! True fact; my 3 favourite Thin Lizzy songs are; Cowboy song, Still in Love with You (with Frankie Miller), Fight or Fall, Dancing in the Moonlight, Rosin Dubh, Boys are Back in Town, She Knows, Angel From the Coast, Emerald, JAILBREAK, Don't Believe a Word, Massacre, Philomena, Running Back, Romeo and Lonely Girl, Got to Give it Up, That was tough narrow it down to 3, but I think I got covered. 🤟 Thin Lizzy, it's a crime that they're not recognized on a greater scale. One of the all-time greats!!! Thanks for this episode
I swore up and down that Zeppelin was my favorite band of all time. That was before I started listening to the Lizz. I'm not even close to old, in fact, I was born about 19 years after Phil died, so all I had ever heard from them was Boys and Jailbreak (which are both fantastic don't get me wrong). Because of that I had always thought they were a one off one hit wonder so never paid them much mind, until I listened to Jailbreak (the album) all the way through about a year ago. That was one hell of a gateway drug, lemme tell you. Supremely underrated band and probably at the top of my favorites list now.
I love your song choices but I’d add Emerald from Live and Dangerous. And yes I agree, I’ve been trying to get my band to learn the Cowboy Song for years. Now I understand why the wouldn’t/couldn’t do it.
Perfect timing. I was listening to "Live and Dangerous" just a couple days ago. Cowboy song came on and I said "that'd be a great one to learn". Thank you again
My favorite Lizzy tune, too! Melody is freaking fantastic, rhythm section tight, Phil sings smooth over the dramatic arrangement, with two killer guitar solos! Whole Jailbreak album is killer. Good job as always!
Love it. Saw the Gorham/Moore line up play this a couple of times in the late 70's. Had the added bonus of having the Pistols' Steve Jones joining them for the encore.
My favorite, too, thanks. I'm in a hotel for a kid's basketball tournament - should be able to knock this one out. I'm outside of Austin, which could be worse. I'm at a Hampton Inn, which could be better.
I'm so glad I was approximately correct. This song is a stand out in my humble bag. And now I have James' awesome and accurate run through to chew on. Thanks!
This is great! My Metal-loving tween recently got hooked on Thin Lizzy, and it was this song that first caught his ear. I appreciate you doing this lesson … and it was a reminder to me to thank you very much for your channel. I’m getting a lot out of it…
Gary Moore was AMAZING. One of my favorite guitarists. Never got the credit he deserved. The false solo going into the true guitar solo... makes my heart skip a beat every time i hear it. This song is a true masterpiece from a true virtuoso craftsman.
Great run through, will give this a go👍my fave Lizzy song ever😉BTW has anyone ever told you that you look like the great Nigel Tuffnel 🤔😉😉 don't touch it! don't even look at it!!!😂😂
Excellent choice and lesson JJ! Miss the simplicity of the old days with a JMP and LP cranked! Use volume knob for dynamics like Thin Lizzy did! Nowadays everyone has a NASA approved pedalboard lol! To each their own I guess!!
Yep ,I like simplicity, straight in to the Marshall .vol on 7/8 then 10 for the leads then back to 7/8 for the rest ..can’t be bothered carrying a ton of other stuff around other than guitar and amp ..only thing I use is an attenuator in the amp if the amp gets too loud for the stage your on ,they don’t like like loud today .pppffttt .thought that’s what rock n roll supposed to be .must be us old farts that are the only ones that can still cope with Marshall’s cranked up these days 😂😂
Rosalie and cowboy song ! 👍😁 thanks so much . Live and dangerous was THE album of my teens , and Scott’s tone and melodic solos forever ingrained in my head. Always preferred Scott’s playing , Brians solos were more bluesy . Same with ‘still in love with you ‘ . Scott’s solo playing just beautiful .

I've said that a trillion times. The greatest Irish guitar band that EVER LIVED.🍀
So lucky to have seen Lizzy back in the early 1980s. The live album is absolutely fantastic and every rock fan should own it.
To bad the album isn't that "live". Still a great album tho.
Jailbreak album is phenomenal. Every track is a gem.
Which one there's two live ones
It is a rock classic. And to the fella above, all those live albums were doctored. To perfection, Thank goodness
I was even luckier to see them during the Live and Dangerous tour in Glasgow! Love playing this song too.

Completely agree, including your song choices. I'd have to add Borderline to your 3 to get to my 3.
@@ranman1959 oh shoot, ya, I missed my third song choice - Borderline! now its complete. Good call!!

Not bad choices............

Amazing tune. Whenever I listen to it I'm under the stars in front of a campfire. Thank you.

It's like being in a room with your best friend learning a song. Hasta la vista!
Cowboy song great song love the album jailbreak ❤
Great song from the past and thanks for the tune up. Scott Gorman has been keeping Thin Lizzy together since Phil died, great player. Peace.
i saw them in 1978 open for kansas great song great band they should be in hall of fame.
Love it.
Saw the Gorham/Moore line up play this a couple of times in the late 70's. Had the added bonus of having the Pistols' Steve Jones joining them for the encore.
Wow, nice job. I have wanted to play that song for over 40 years and just never learned it and you just made it so simple for me thank you so much.!
I saw them on their Jailbreak tour in late 70’s at Hammersmith Odeon. Great memories.
I personally think that's their best album. How bout you?
My favorite, too, thanks. I'm in a hotel for a kid's basketball tournament - should be able to knock this one out. I'm outside of Austin, which could be worse. I'm at a Hampton Inn, which could be better.

Excellent choice and lesson JJ! Miss the simplicity of the old days with a JMP and LP cranked! Use volume knob for dynamics like Thin Lizzy did! Nowadays everyone has a NASA approved pedalboard lol! To each their own I guess!!
Not me and certainly not Keith Richards! That's good enough company for me. LOL!!!

A little out of my wheelhouse, so I’m not going to try and play it but I still enjoyed it.
Rosalie and cowboy song ! 👍😁 thanks so much .

❤
Nice
Hell of a lick
What's your gear setup? Particularly amps and pedals to get this tone?
How do you know which players solo is which?
they went into Boys right after live. still tuned down to D?
I believe they tuned down for everything.
I see that you're using both pickups, but as you're using humbuckers, what would you suggest as a setting for single coil?
That guitar has the Jimmy Page wiring, so it gets very different tones compared to a regular humbucker guitar. Bridge pickup would be fine, I think.
Genesee-ing is Gene-believing!
Are you in Buffalo? Thanks.

Ur the badass jameS why arnt u making ur own music
Tone is credible, what’s your signal path?
Just straight into a Peavey Classic 50.
@@jamesjames9275 wow, what an underrated amp. Sounds killer! You got PAF humbuggies in that Les Paul?
The symbols are in the wrong order on that t-shirt.
Thanks, I'll let Jimmy know next time I see him.
@@jamesjames9275 These things are important, you know!
what a cranked LP was meant to sound like.
Johnny is still the best tune, n.b. NOT Johnnie the fox... it'e a completelly tune, PS excellent rendition!!! of the Cowboy Song!!!!
