I thought of you when I was in the Post Office queue for half an hour, BOILING and stressed. I reminded myself how lucky I am to have people in my life who I love, to post things to and to be warm and sheltered. Then later when a car didn’t indicate on a roundabout and I was initially angry because I could’ve gone, I reminded myself that they could be an exhausted mother, who has a million other more important things to think about. Suddenly my journey being delayed by a few seconds didn’t matter that much to me. This way of treating my thoughts has given me a much better perspective on life. Thank you!!

Hey Lydia, I just wanted to say thank you. I have been suffering for the past 2 years with severe depression and anxiety two weeks before my cycle, digestion issues, skin issues, the list goes on. I had never heard of PMDD and my GP had never mentioned it. Following your video, I made an appointment with a specialist gynaecologist and have now been diagnosed with PMDD and am on a diet plan, supplement plan and medication to help me. Thank you for being so open about your diagnosis, you will never know how much it has helped me too ❤

My son suffers from disordered eating and it stems from anxiety. I have used the concept of his brain serving him ideas bc his anxiety is in hyperdrive and when he stops and thinks about the fact that he has a choice it has been a game changer!!! This concept has been game changing for us! Thank you!

It is so incredibly amazing how the brain works and how we can actually change our thoughts. Switch from negative talk into being grateful. Not always an easy task juggling kids and work. I was in the car this morning, stuck in a horrible traffic on a motorway, with 3 kids late for school, raining as hell outside. My mind decided to remind me of other negatives, serious health issues within the family, work stress etc, why not... Deep breath, some funny affirmation songs for kids on Spotify. It was not us that had a car accident and this is enough to be grateful for today! Thank you for having a strength to be out there for us and inspiring us daily. Lots of positive vibes to you all out there x

I love the message at the start of this video Lydia. I have to share yesterday I was chatting with my husband over text and was typing the words-another miserable day ( it’s been dark and gloomy) and I stopped and remembered how you have spoken about this before and changing your mindset to be more positive and I deleted that text and instead wished my husband to have a good day at work. It really easy to forget to be grateful for all the things, especially the things that you wish were better, but the true blessing is having any and all experiences.

  • @TheKathrynfloyd

The beginning of this video resonated with me so much! I think when you’re someone who deals with anxiety (I definitely am!) it can be so easy to let one thing not going the way you planned, or a problem popping up, cause you to go into a stress spiral that starts minor but then you keep focusing on all of the negatives until you’re way more inconvenienced and stressed by it than if you tried to reframe things positively and that actually it’s not the end of the world. I am currently trying to work on this myself, it is not always easy but I can literally feel the difference in my body when I force myself to reframe things!

That’s a big principle of stoicism, the recognition that we have control over our own thoughts and actions but not over external events or the behavior of others. Not easy to do at times and not always successful at it lol. Gratitude is also another main principle.

I have it good and I know it.

I’m only 3 minutes in Lydia but I just wanted to drop a comment about your experience on the train home and being aware of those negative thoughts. You say there’s worse problems but we all suffer these kinds of thought and sometimes on a daily and it’s so important to start being aware of them and the more aware you become of them the less fuelled these thoughts are the more control you have over them. I take the bus sometimes to work and sometimes it can be so busy but I’ve learnt to change my negative thoughts and I’m actually able to laugh a little at how my brain can get so agitated over absolutely nothing. I just pop my headphones in look around at other people and wonder what they’ve been doing today and where they’re going home to etc. and just tell myself little cute stories about these people. I just wanted to give me 2p at how it is very important to be aware of these thoughts and good on you for being open minded enough to start to focus your thoughts in a most positive way!

It's likely that some of those aren't bumblebees, but carpenter bees. If so, they aren't trying to get out of the greenhouse, they're looking for wood in the structure. They will bore into the wood to house their larvae, very smart. I see them doing this in our barn this time of year by the dozens. ❤

Thank you Lydia for sharing your life and to what helps you overcome the darkness that goes around trying to keep us slaves of our own negative thoughts.
As a cancer survivor and a believer in Christ, my faith helped me so much to stay positive and hopeful. I trusted God was in control. I learned to keep "captive any bad thoughts" God ministered my heart, mind and soul when I surrendered everything to him and that truly saved my life and made me a new creation. I wake up everyday feeling thankful and even on a bad day, I feel joyful for another lovely day I get to live!

The tip you shared about changing your attitude to minor inconveniences resonated with me in the respect that you celebrated your progress when you were able to successfully overcome a negative thought pattern and kick it in the pants. I struggle with avoiding unhealthy snacking and you sparked an idea for me to create a beautiful bullet journal page (this evening) I plan to track my progress by awarding myself a coloured heart every time I successfully resist this habit. Consequently today has been a successful day with no unhealthy snacking! (After a discouraging week of giving in to every temptation immediately and feeling like a complete failure)

Hi Lydia! I lost my fur baby yesterday and am overwhelmed by grief. She had lung cancer and our vet had attempted to remove a lobe of her lung yesterday but unfortunately when he got into the area he realized that actually the tumor was much too far gone to be able to remove as it was twisted around several very delicate areas. I never truly thought she’d never make it out of the surgery but the vet had to put her to sleep on the surgery table with me holding her paws 💔
Can you please make a video maybe with your life coach talking about grief and ways to approach your mindset in those moments where you feel like you’re never going to be happy again and are just distraught? 🙏🙏

I am so pleased you are changing your oils. I was screaming at the computer the other day, as I listened to you, as seed oils are terrible. We use, olive, avocado, goose, ghee, butter and bacon fat. However, read the label to make sure it's what it says it is. Also check oils in peanut butter, very often they add nasty oils to it. Really enjoying your journey. We changed our diet 5 years ago and we are now different people.

I have grown with you through all of your life journey’s, as far as the internet goes that is.
    I never comment on here.

And you give such positive insight to things others may not have access too. Your self awareness is inspiring and makes me want to better my own life.
Your content continues to keep me focused and uplifted, and my husband always says “What would Lydia Millen do” 😅

I love the positivity! It’s a really beautiful thing to share. We need this more in the world. Thank you for sharing. I want to gently touch on the importance and the difference with suppressing negative emotions. It’s ok to feel a little annoyed in situations and it’s important to acknowledge that. And then reinforce these feelings with something positive such as the examples you have given. Theres a fine line! Learnt the hard way after 25 years of suppressing real emotions.. but nonetheless 5 years in therapy has given a brand new perspective on that all!

I’m very much for positivity and sometimes it is hard. I find it hard when driving, if I accidentally cut someone up and they bib or shout at me, it affects me for the rest of the day. They have probably forgotten all about it and I’m still suffering! So I try and let it go, or even better don’t make eye contact with them 🤣

As a person who holds a Political Science degree, I’ve done my fair share of reading the news and it always left me saddened. I have chosen to not watch the news, and my fiancé always says I’m naïve, because I don’t know what’s going on in the world, but it’s so much better for my mental health to not read/hear about the terrors locally and abroad daily.

For me it helps to put on very long gardening gloves when gardening in overgrown areas where creepy crawlers might hide. It feels like a bit of a protection 😅. They reach up to my elbows. Sometimes they are called rose gardening gloves. Maybe that might help 😊

When I use to travel home from work on a country road, behind a car that is doing 20mph, I used to say to myself “ this is perhaps for a reason, calm down and enjoy the ride home “ and have used that mantra since 😊
Have just ordered the water cream to tie in with my temple spa products 👏🏻👏🏻

Much as though the flowers are lovely but transient. I like bulbs or plants in pots. They last & can be replanted in the garden. I would suggest you move the rosemary to a bed as it’s growth will be stunted in the container. Rosemary grows to a large bush.

Most likely that was a tapped spring flowing into that basin. Had it been direct run off from the fields it would be muddy unless it is going through a series of filters. In that case, it would not be safe to drink. No one wants giardiasis! This weeks rain is next weeks spring water. It filters down through the ground into an aquifer and as the new water filters in it pushes the "old" water up and out.
Normally, regardless of the time of year, spring water is very cold! I have a spring under my house that flows into a crock in my basement. It is crystal clear and ice cold all year long. Always good to make a mental note when you find a spring. You never know when you might need it.

Thought about that too when our only car right now broke down. In our area it is definitely needed lol. So as I was hoping it could be fixed and worried, I told myself, no, you're lucky you still have it instead. So through it I befriended the car guy and learned more and refocused and was happy. Broke but happy. 🤣 With a new attitude!
So thank you for the reminders!🙏

Positive thinking is a skill, you have to work on it. I love Daniel Amen, MD. He is a psychiatrist and his clinic performs lots of studies on the brain. I love his books, they are so positive and helps with training your brain and becoming a better you.

When I have spiraling thoughts (which happens more often than I’d like to admit) I try to tell myself “my thoughts are not my reality- they’re just my thoughts” mantras like that are good distractions and ways of “changing the channel” in your brain 😅

Yes, the key is to distinguish between voluntary cognition (thinking) and automatic thoughts & judgements. Take ownership of the former and adopt greater distance from the latter (which cognitive psychology calls 'cognitive distancing'. Don't get 'carried away' by your automatic thoughts and judgments, this is known as 'cognitive fusion'. Sounds like you're doing great though at recognising the difference though.

Hi Lydia, I love your videos!! Thank you so much for making us all smile twice a week when you upload. The healthiest oils for you to choose would be avocado oil or olive oil. Virgin, extra virgin and cold pressed oils are ones that have been minimally processed. However, unprocessed oils can have a lower smoke point (where the oil breaks down and harmful chemicals can be produced). If you are frying or baking food at a high heat then rapeseed oil is the best choice for you - as it has a higher smoke point, and has a heart-healthy fat profile. Fats such as ghee and coconut oil are very high in saturated fats so regular use of these may be harmful to your blood fat and cholesterol levels. I hope that helps!

If your oil tastes and smells foul then it has gone rancid, seed oils can go rancid very quickly, including olive oils. Quality and freshness is definitely key. Try using tallow or lard for your high heat cooking (goose fat like you've said), and a high quality avocado oil for the mayo ☺ Oils can definitely be a rabbithole themselves... when I decided to stop using seed oils I saw a complete clear up of my melasma, and that blew my mind. Anyway, happy exploring 💚

Driving in Los Angeles, can turn a calm person into a MONSTER…so when I feel myself starting to not breathe, then it’s a spiral. In practicing mindfulness, I have replaced with deep breathing, classical music. Last week I went to Target out of the BLUE a woman waiting in line started arguing with me. Still not sure what about. I started to try and understand what was going on…then I realized..she simply wanted a fight..I CALMLY told her maam I’m very sorry you are having such a bad day. But I will not engage you..I’m simply not going to fight. She followed me to my car. I never found out what triggered her..NOT MY ISSUE. I must admit I had to turn car on and turn on classical music and deep breath, “this is not my path, this is NOT my path. Fhhewww.. ok check… I don’t always pass the test, but the more I practice mindfulness, it makes it easier to move past the anxiety. Sometimes easier than others.

Lovely episode. Geo caching is a fun way to put a little more adventure into a hike especially with kids and friends. Golf pencils are good to carry when you come across a small one as they fit better in smaller cases. You will need to come up with a geocach name if you want. Would love to see Ali’s pics of the snowdrops ( my favorite) the walks you do are they walks that you choose from an app or to you start and decide your destination and follow your phone navigation? Very enjoyable- thank you!

I suggest you take your 'softening thoughts' one step further. Instead of mentally removing yourself from the surroundings and thinking about being home in cuddly socks, I find it's works wonders to simply embrace the present. Take in the people and the London life. The hurried pace that sooooo many around the world would die for! Just get grounded in the present, and people watch, and go into deep gratitude that you are safe, that you have the blessing the means to get your hair done by a London stylist, that you have the money for a train ticket, and that you have a lovely, cozy home to return to. 🥰🥰❤❤
