Always a pleasure - keep up the great builds using these goodies!
Sweet! Appreciate you sharing!
Thanks for watching!
I have three of the colors and love them! Will be buying the other colors soon. You did a great job of showing them off.
Thx Gary, an investment well worth it!
Another fantastic display. I’m glad you demoed the nova paints I was curious about the colors and sometimes the website photos do not do it justice. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful Garrett! Video definitely helps with colorshift! Gotta get that movement to get the full effect!
Great instructional video giving people 2 options to get the same result. Well done indeed. As always be blessed my friend.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Always Helpful and Always Appreciated Mr. Sir !!
My pleasure as always!!
Thanks for introducing those new colors to us.
A hidden tip in your video showed you removing the heat shrink just after dipping in the paint while it was still soft from the heat.
I always set the jig heads to cool first then remove it.
Great tip Adam, thanks.
My pleasure Rizzo, glad you found a nugget in there!
The Nova Stone is fantastic!! This was an awesome video!! I couldn’t pick a favorite color!! Shout out to Dan!! Very informative and entertaining video Adam, thanks for sharing!!
My pleasure James, appreciate the kind words my friend! Definitely some killer paints!!!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft yes it is!!👍
Nice Spring like colors! Looked great on that chatterbait. Keep up the great work!
Yes sir, especially those tequila colors!! Thanks for the encouragement!
Gorgeous colors!
Thx man, kudos to Barlows!!
These look awesome!! Makes me want to start making my own jig heads!
One stop shop!! Thanks man!
Nice video and channel. I just subscribed. Spring is almost here and I have the fishing bug. Crappie should be biting soon, I'm in Missouri. Looking forward to checking out your other videos. Thanks, take care!
Welcome to the community, glad you found me! I hope you enjoy the rest of the channel - there's quite a bit out there to check out!
GREAT video and comparison. Thank you
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@SDGCustomLurecraftyou're welcome. I ALWAYS ENJOY your videos. And I just ordered all the colors lol
@@Bipecrazy69 I’m confident you’ll enjoy them!!
I bought 6 of the 8 colors a few weeks ago after seeing it on Smalljaw’s channel. Good looking color shift. I plan on coming up with some patterns to go with some of these colors. Great vid Adam. Thank you as always
love Smalljaw. He is the reason I started making my own jigs and I think he is really a treasure to the anglers and baitmakers today. I have been thinking that I want to start taking notes while I watch his videos in case RUclips or the internet ever goes away.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with Shawn! I’m sure it will be killer!
@@phis.750 yes sir, Dan is fantastic!
Awesome comparison of colors. Since I fish mostly dirty water I just paint my heads black. Looks like I need to step up my game.
Thanks man! Lot of variations of black/dark to tap into!! That Eclipse is a KILLER option for that!
Beautiful color shifts. My fav’s are the Tequila’s 👍🏻
They were killer!! Thanks Jeffrey!
I do like those colors, good demo, gonna try them on some blades, thanks
Thanks Patrick! I bet these would be killer on some blades!
U come up with the coolest ideas. Have u done any plastic gobies patterns yet
@@patrickmchenry9154 Thanks man! I have yet to try a goby!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm planning on messing around with color shift powders and clear. I'm going to see about adding some glittery mix. I like using other brands of powder that I purchase by the pound. Cheaper in the end but just as good in quality.
By the way. How's the wifey. Hope she has healed up and is healthy. Tight lines.
Thanks Lance! Wife is doing well, still on the back end of recovery and will be for months, but for the most part feeling great! Mixing clears/powders is definitely fun, albeit risky! I certainly went through some mixes that didn’t turn out and found file 13! Also, if you add glitter be careful as it tends to fall to the bottom in the fluid bed… for me anyway, it killed the airflow. Hope you get it nailed down!!
Well done sir and congrats on all of your blessings and success in the bait building world. I learned to tie watching you on a vice that didn’t rotate. I’ve learned so much from you and Smalljaw. Keep it up! And yes….. you sold me on the nova paint! I gotta stop watching your channel! 😂
Hey Mike, thanks for the feedback my friend! You’re going to love these paints, they really are something!! Appreciate the kind words as well!
I don’t have any fluid beds for my powder paints. With smaller jigs it’s not really an issue. But I really need to bang the jar and shake it hard. But even if it gets thicker once I bake them the paint smooths out.
Yup, I guess I got a little spoiled, LOL!
Get a big paper clip and just steer the powder paint till it’s really loose in the container. Once you start steering you will immediately feel the powder loosen up. Once loosened up it’s good to dip. Usually get two big jigs before I have to steer again.
@@jimboslice7389 👍👍
Also could you get us a 8x8 black card for when your showing us the close ups so the camera will focus on the target a lil easier. And maybe also a white card for showing thanks in advance and hello from alaska
Thanks for the suggestion 👍.
I have been experimenting with using Superglow white as a base to see how much if any glow comes through. Since you have the beds warm I was wondering if you use Superglow White as a base will the Nova Series glow colors in the dark or change the glow . Thanks also about the clear coat difference, which was one of my next experiments. With this cold snap in Texas it is hard to GEAUX FISH so move the vise in the kitchen and get to tying. God Bless and keep warm
Thanks Rory! I've not tried any glow powder - interesting idea though! Based on what I saw, I doubt it would have a significant effect on the darker powders as they are opaque enough to just cover the base, however, the lighter 3 did show differences and may produce a little somethin' somethin!
Hey bud quick question, are you still using lunch bags for your bottom plate on your fluid bed? It seems as if your fluid bed has the better suspension abilities over other fluid beds ive seen where they tend to have more of a one sided suspension to them. Thanks in advance and hello from alaska
Hey man, thanks for the question! Yup, still rockin’ the ol’ paper bag. Cheap, easy, and works great for me. I find that, just as much as the filter material, the pump is often the culprit. I started with a small aquarium pump, off the shelf at walmart… like $10-12. It just didn’t have the umph needed, so I upgraded to the adjustable 50-160 gallon pump and baboom… no issues. I can dial it back if need be but it also has the power to float the heavier stuff when I need it.
Those colors are awesome.. love ur fluid bed set up. Question if I use my heat gun to heat my jigs and then coat can I do a good 50-100 and then bake in a day or two or do I have to bake asap? Thank you
Thank ya much! Yes, you can paint a selection of heads and bake all at once later on, no problem at all.
@@SDGCustomLurecraft thank u I been busy with work I have 200 banana jigs painted 21/2 ounce each.. been 3 days since I finished first batch today I finished the last of it.. should I bake all together or in batches?
Whatever you can fit I suppose. I would suggest a jig rack if you can fit it… that’s a lot of work to see any sag/droop and ruin the paint! I have a video on how to make your own 👍👍
This was very informative 👏 easy to follow and listen to. Only question i do have is would there be anything i could clear coat the jigs? I fish alot of rocks. Lol
Glad you enjoyed it! Re: clear coat, sure thing: You could dip into a powder paint clear coat before curing to add another level, you could apply 2-part epoxy (but I’d recommend a lure turner to keep it even as it cures), or you could use UV resin to add a clear coat (assuming you have the right lights to set it). Hope this helps!!
Oh this helps immensely! Thank you so much!!! I liked and subscribed. I'll be watching alot more, that's for sure!
@@travisgriewahn629 welcome to the community!
Haven't even watched the video yet and I know it's going to cost me money! Lol
LOL........yeah.....
I must say that these paints look very very nice indeed. Looks like I'm going to be out some more money now lol. I am also a victim of the "you overheated your jig up before dipping it club" I have no most trouble with the green pumpkin, and white colors and occasionally black as well. Trial and error and remelt as needed to remedy the mistakes. Of course an ugly jig head will still catch fish just saying. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
My pleasure Hank, thanks for watching!
Wondering what diameter/ size heat shrink wrap do you use to protect the hook eye. Thank you.
That depends on the hook. I generally use 1/8 for 3/0-5/0 and 3/32 for 2/0 and smaller. 6/0+ the hook eye is usually big enough that you can paint it safely without running the risk of sealing the hole - even some 5/0s are likewise big enough but I use a lot of 5/0 and still put it on just in case. Both sizes can be found on Amazon - big rolls, super cheap, last you a LONG time!
You know that colorshift pigment is outrageously priced? It's the exact same as we have been using in the autobody world for years. But the price is about half. There's about 700 color shifts and probably 250 or so hypershift colors.
I can be pricey, yup! Great effect though, even with a small dose. Fortunately, these colorshift power paints are very reasonable - 100s, if not 1,000+ jig heads (depending on size) can be painted with one jar! Thanks for watching, I do appreciate it!
I know you've mentioned it before. Buuut I can't remember.. What size shrink tubing do you use for covering the hook eyes? Thanks again Chris
NP Chris, I use 1/8 for 3/0+ hooks and 3/32 for 2/0 and smaller. 👍👍
@@SDGCustomLurecraft awesome. Thanks again
Nice, can I powder coat brass? Do they need to be sand blaster? Or will a light sanding be ok?
Nice videos
Can I do it?
Thank ya much! I’ve never tried powder painting brass - not sure if there’s any difference. I’m guessing a little sanding would be a good idea, help it stick better.
@@SDGCustomLurecraft ok, I’ll give it a try never powder coated, made my bed and I’ll give feedback
But keep up the work, good job
Thank ya sir!!
Just a lil FYI
There are only a few places that produce powder paints.
One is Prismatic Powders,I wouldn't doubt Protec is getting theirs from them and repackaging it and ripping everyone off.
You pay what $7-12 ($8 from Barlow's) for 2oz of Protec, for the basic colors and $12 for this? LOL
I buy a full pound from Prismatic from $8-40 depending on color, and they have over 6500 colors and color combos.MITpowders is another I buy from.
I have tried a couple of these color shifting along with a couple transparent colors and it doesn't add to getting more bites. It does add to the number of fisherman you hook though...through their wallets.
All one needs is the basic colors,White, Black, Grey, Yellow, Red, Blue, Green, Brown, Pink, Orange, Purple. One can also mix these to get different shades if you want, but these 11 are really all one needs to make and I'd rather spend $8 -16 on a full pound of these basic colors than waste it on 2oz from these ripoff companies like Protec.
Thanks for watching!
I go the same route with most of my powders. Buying by the pound is the way to go. Much Cheaper in the end.
@@lancehenthorn17 Very
Also if you are one that needs all those oddball colors then there's a ton more in their selection.
Just heat back up and rotate I don't have a fluid bed and they turn out okay and smooth
I went back to the heat and tried... guess I was too far gone! The Sawgrass one wasn't as bad, it recovered, but yeah... Sunburst was too far gone!
Hi, where can I get a fluid bed?
Most guys make them, especially the multi-cup setups. I have a couple videos on the channel showing you how. You can also buy single cup beds from Barlows and/or other online retailers.
@@SDGCustomLurecraft great! thank you!
They don't have a white with a lavander? I couldn't find it.
Not that I’m aware of, no. Did you see that elsewhere and think it was Barlows?
@@SDGCustomLurecraft no I was just wondering because they have all these colors but not a white or silver one. To represent a bait fish. Unless protec makes one? Do you know of any that would make that appearance?
@@Rubo7 they have plenty of whites and silvers, some more involved stuff like silvermine and Tilapia, but a white with lavender… not sure about that one specifically.
@@SDGCustomLurecraft ok thank you so much. Your videos are super 👍 🔥🔥
@@Rubo7 👊👊
Has something changed? Are you using a new camera? Or have you changed something in the editing? The quality looked really good. I noticed you having fun with the ultra close ups. Glad I wasn't watching it on the big screen. 😂
LOL, I finally brought a good camera, yup! First 2+ years of the channel, everything was done on an iPhone… very limiting (much more-so than I realized). As I get used to the new equipment it does indeed make the whole process more enjoyable. Not that it wasn’t before, but man… I underestimated how much having better filming equipment would de-stress things and just let me “roll with it”. Between that and all the lighting I added to the shop (so I don’t have to setup different soft boxes everywhere I go…) it’s been another game-changer (on the production side vs baitin’). And yeah… even the quality of the picture… blurry backgrounds, etc… all makes a big difference!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft I could tell something was new. That's awesome. If you enjoy the process, it will show in the quality of your videos.
@@tennesseekayakfishing5691 I do hope that’s the case!!
Only time went with white or black is make two tones
Yup, I can see how that would help!
