    I’m really glad you started doing some trout tackle. I’m surrounded with trout waters in my part of north central wv. I would say go as natural as possible for your trip. Browns,blacks and whites also the brass blades seem to always catch more for me. Joes flies have some great patterns if you need some inspiration.

    Very nice! Watching you inspires me to want to make more of my own baits. I always tied my own double salt water baits. I'm a veteran trout, salmon, steelhead and salt water fisherman from WA state. Just recently moved to AL. Thus learning to bass fish. Can't wait to try your jigs in my next tournament! I have trout fished with just beeds that look like natural fish eggs. Sort of a dark reddish pink to orangish color. Definitely natural colors that mimick the insects and also other fish that trout feed on. Hope you have a good and blessed trip! I know you read all of your comments, so I apologize, this one's a bit long.

I’m going in soon for spinal fusion surgery L3 all the way down to S-1 so I’m going to be watching your entire library and hope to be able to buy me some molds and build some jugs and soft baits. Thanks John, all the best for your surgery - sounds like a doozy! I hope my content can help pass the time. The trout trip will be wading as the water will most likely be skinny and shallow. Hoping to make it way up in the mountains if I can!

    Hey bro that brings back a lot of memories before I started bass fishing all I used to fish for was trout I love the spinner that you made I would down size if you are going for trout a smaller hook and blade a size 2 blade keep the colors simple and you will do fine but you can experiment with color the trout will let you know if they like it

    If you were to buy a wire bender again would you recommend the Hagen’s Commercial Wire Former or another option?

    • @SDGCustomLurecraft
      @SDGCustomLurecraft  Год назад +1

      It’s not cheap, but man it does make for an easy process! I originally got it so I could handle HEAVY wire, something the other, cheaper, smaller units can’t do. Turns out I don’t use it as much for that, so a small unit would have probably worked just as well. Nice to have options though! (I should also say… I’ve not used any other bender… only “manual” wire-bending pliers… so I’m making some assumptions that other units would work as well and do the job.)

    Ahhhh…. Classic in-line spinners for multi-species… can’t beat ‘em! 👍🏼
    My two cents for ur trout… don’t underestimate the allure of muted/natural tones… especially in clear water… same goes for plain all black… I was always amazed how they seem to be attracted to the plain Jane’s.
    …And one more… small (

    • @SDGCustomLurecraft
      @SDGCustomLurecraft  Год назад +1

      Hard to beat a classic! :) I was thinking muted/natural for at least one approach 👍👍 good to hear that could be effective. Black I wouldn't have guessed, but profile is profile, right?! Some 3" crappie slayers (maybe with a chatter blade) are on the list of arsenal to take - even under a float "popping" them on the drift sounded like a good idea. Thanks again, and hope you and yours are doing well too!

    • @SDGCustomLurecraft
      @SDGCustomLurecraft  Год назад

      Hey, I've used it at least one other time when I made an inline buzzbait. As for choice, it is a dandy... not cheap, but once you get it dialed in it makes like a lot easier (I was using wire bending pliers and vide grips before!). I'm happy I have it, especially since I can swap out a few parts and bend 0.050 wire for bigger stuff. Not sure the smaller units out there can handle that thick of wire.

    I'm already 65, I'm from Georgia, I'm not so active on the water, I mainly did fly fishing and tenkara. I also sit in the evenings and create tile spinners and spoons. I liked your channel and will be glad to see your new videos. Regarding trout, there is one detail: the preferences of brook trout differ from the preferences of rainbow trout. Could you tell me which one you were going to catch? I would also like to know with what success you returned from trout fishing? I wish you success!

    Would love a comprehensive video on making in line spinner bodies (specifically for panfish, white bass, crappie and trout. I CANNOT find a good source of 1/16 or 1/8 spinner bodies in the colors I’d like. Additionally would like to see painting methods from powder to air brushing of these including painting of blades. I don’t have a lead pour/mold set up (yet bc hoping to find a source for bodies) so seeing the lead pour/mold set up in detail and the cutting and cleaning up of the bodies would be super helpful. Have really enjoyed your videos.

    A simple RUclips search on what colors to use on spinners for trout will give you a good idea on what to make. There are other options as well such as attaching flies on the smaller spinners or medium size spinners instead of a treble hook, most common fly patterns will work small woolly buggers such as size 8 or 10 in black, olive and orange , winged flies , nymphs etc. I would follow what you find on RUclips but pay close attention to the size and the common size of fish in the river your fishing, if the fish run on the small side then make colorado blad spinners or Indiana or minnoiw blade colored beds help or you can save time and copy rooster tail spinners a tried a true option.

    I know it’s a year later since you’ve done this video. I wanted to compliment your craft of making these inline spinners. I recently noticed the dark matter fish hawk spinner looks like something else that would have a time & place. Variety styles are awesome. I know there’s a limit on how much materials can be added for the obvious reason. And things can be costly. Have you thought perhaps by adding a VMC hybrid blade treble for additional flash to entice. The only thing the colored fiber hairs would have to be cut a little percise above the spin blade to turn. I would love to make my own but my wife’s head would blow off with all I my fishing addiction stuff. Keep up the great work.. 👍

    • @SDGCustomLurecraft
      @SDGCustomLurecraft  Год назад

      Could be a couple things - make sure the curve side is “up”, facing the line tie. Colorado and Indiana blades work best on a clevis, skip the willow if you were trying to use it instead. And, make sure you have a bead on both sides of the clevis as that will keep it smooth and help it spin. Oh… and back-weighting seems to help… get that weight as close to the hook/material as you can. Hope this helps!!

    My only brown trout was caught on a black body with yellow dots and a gold blade panther martin spinner. Also don’t sleep on 2.75” tubes, 1.5-2” swimbaits or 2” curly tails. My biggest trout ever (26” cutbow) was caught on a 4” tube jig in a rainbow trout color.

    I can’t believe there’s not much content about making single hook inline spinners! Using larger single hooks on bigger heavier inline spinners making large fly like hooks. Only company I seen make them is roxstar, even they use a mustad hook at the end though.

    • @SDGCustomLurecraft
      @SDGCustomLurecraft  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, single hooks that small are an option but may make for a harder hookup ratio. I love a single hook when I can get away with it though!

    • @Giixxersquid
      @Giixxersquid 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@SDGCustomLurecraft when I use my roxstar inline spinners I cut the mustad hook off so I can fish only single hook. Yes you might lose a fish now and again but the hookup is cleaner less damaging to the fish and 5x easier to remove. Once you remove the mustad hook it’s just a fly attached to an inline spinner. You should try making some with slightly bigger than fly hooks, you might fall in love! Try using some salmon hooks to make a larger fly and attach it to a spinner. I caught 4 20+ lbs salmon and an 11 lb trout on single hook inline spinners last October. I plan on making my own this year
